Look up her zip code on the MarketDay web site, and if you find a local organization doing the fundraising, you should figure out if you can contact them. Given a whole BUILDING of seniors who might enjoy some items, the group would probably be willing to organize a delivery to the building and some volunteers to run it.

"I've not seen or witnessed evidence of any smoking in probably nine months," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said. "I think he has worked extremely hard.
If Obama keeps this up, in two years he will have at least one item on his short list of accomplishments.
glasater

Wasn't Clinton in his absolute element?

As if BOzo didn't need further weakening...

Obama makes his mama wait
"half an hour"; what is his fate
She will kick him like a dog
Because he was as useful as a log
While the Black ex-prez saved the state.

Clarice

None there, cathy. really schwan's is great for her needs. Thanks.

MayBee

Yeah, glasater. Clinton is the happiest man in the world right now.

Porchlight

Boy Clinton gets to be President again for a few minutes.

I am with Jane, I absolutely cannot believe Obama said something about keeping his wife waiting and split. Wow.

glasater

Yeah MayBee-

The appearance of Clinton in the WH pressing briefing room is going to keep me chuckling for awhile.

He really misses being prez.

glasater

Didn't hear the part about keeping Michele waiting.

What a maroon...

Neo

Tim Geithner takes the afternoon off

bunky

Clinton now? WTF, there is no way this thing should pass. R's are being f-ing PLAYED.

Danube of Thought

On the road again (Tiburon), so missed the Clinton performanse--rats!

But earlier today I did see Bernie Sanders in his rant about the war between the middle class and the rich. This man is nuts.

Clarice

Do you suppose it makes Obama long stronger to have Clinton make the pitch? To excuse himself in the middle of the presser because he promised Michelle he'd go to some Xmas parties with her?

My goodness.

Clarice

**LOOK stronger**

NK

JaneTHT--

Clinton isn't shilling for BarryO, he's playing presidential dress up for the day. If you think the Dems don't take BarryO seriously, Bubba "I did not have sex with .....that woman" Clinton is not changing any Dem minds. Bubba lost control of the Dem purse strings in 2008.

bunky

Clarice: why are we pushing this thing now?

Stephanie

Leaving the hard job to others again...

'I've been keeping the first lady waiting so I'm going to take off'.. and heads to the WH Christmas Party leaving Clinton to handle the presser.

Remind me again that he has any care for the actual job and not just the perks.

LUN

Stephanie

Focused like a laser on the Christmas cookies, ain't he? The economy, not so much.

Clarice

bunky, We will not control the Senate after January nor the WH. Theoretically we can write a better tax break but there's no assurance it will go thru and in the meantime the economy will do worse as will taxpayers.

Now, if all this carp is going to go into a tarted up deal, I'd argue the risk is worth taking and the deal should be turned down.

Stephanie

Why do I have visions of Moo trying to train this mutt? No wonder he thinks everyone treats him like a dog.

Want a treat? Have a Christmas cookie. Good dog.

peter

Well, Clinton says we need to do a tax deal before January. That cinches it for me.

MarkO

"I've not seen or witnessed evidence of any smoking in probably nine months," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said. "I think he has worked extremely hard.

I would prefer to hear from the percipient witness himself. Generally, this sort of cover means he's smoking day and night.

Like I care.

bunky

F-it take the risk. Money for alternative energy? No way.

centralcal

OMG!!!! I go out shopping for a little while and I come back to Twitter on fire (all newsies) over Clinton back at the podium in the White House, just like the good ole days. I always miss the fun stuff!!!!

Then I read the thread - Obama really just left Clenis at the podium so he good get to the "holiday" party? Woo hoo. Nutcrackers all on parade, these days.

Threadkiller

The coward looked like Dmitry Medvedev standing next to Putin. What a wimp.

He better hurry before she busts his other lip.

They will be singing the Twelve Stitches of Christmas at this party.

centralcal

good = could! eyeroll.

BobDenver

Reagan was lauded as a master of delegation, but he never had the notion to extend it to press conferences. Based on the reaction of both left and right to Obama's last presser, this was actually a smart move.

Janet

Good Lord! Ol' Clinton got comfortable fast..leaning forward on his elbows & pointing that long finger. Scary.

glasater

Well-

Here's your basic Tarted Up Deal.

Janet

I would prefer to hear from the percipient witness himself. Generally, this sort of cover means he's smoking day and night.

Exactly. After his first medical checkup, I remember the articles saying he had quit smoking, but still smoked sometimes! I joked that that was how I quit smoking too!
Fraud.

Extraneus

I oppose anything to come out of this Congress, including the words "and" and "the," so I join the opposition to the "compromise."

It's not that big a deal to make the rate reduction retroactive after it goes up on January 1st, and I agree with cathyf that it would be good for everyone to see the smaller paycheck associated with letting the BOOSH tax cuts expire, while they watch the new Congress work to reduce them back down. Everybody will be paying attention then.

BobDenver

Come to think of it, this delegation thing could be a tremendous time saver. Those joint press conferences when he meets with foreign heads of state or government? Tell the press your wife is waiting and tell the foreign guy to carry on!

centralcal

From The Corner:

UPDATE: Mark Knoller just asked Bill Clinton if he was having a better time giving advice to President Obama than he did while he was actually governing. Clinton replied, with a broad grin: “I had quite a good time governing.”

LMAO

Stephanie

From Glasater's link

And there's the possibility the added goodies will have opposite the intended effect for some lawmakers. Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., said the add-ons could turn his fiscally conservative colleagues against the bill.

"You don't want to be accused out there of supporting stimulus three," he said. "It will knock some votes off in the House, but more than anything it will show the voters out there that things haven't changed with Republicans."

Some of them get it.

Stephanie

A picture is worth millions... check out Drudge and the headline. If someone could get a screen cap?

Rick Ballard

"I would prefer to hear from the percipient witness himself."

For the joy of indicting an impeached witness for perjury?

Janet

President Obama Clinton

centralcal

A picture worth $1 Trillion (and many more) words.

matt

Finally home from the adventure. Wow, when can I go back?

The DC follies just keep keeping on, it would seem. We have your battling economists behind door #1 and the loony Congress behind door #2 and all the while not much has really changed.

There's a place called Puerto Montt in Chile that seems to have a lot of the perquisites; incredible natural gifts, good soil; nice people, little crime. It is very tempting. We only landed there in transit, but everything I've read and seen makes it an attractive option.

Stephanie

Thanks, Janet. Can you believe it?

Laser like focus, my ass.

Per Insty: Those rumors that White House insiders are worried by Obama’s disengagement just got a lot more credible.

This was a bad week to quit smoking cigarettes, ummm, doing coke , ummm, sniffing glue.

RichatUF

So Obama had to have Clinton sell the tax compromise, a bill that doesn't exist, and he ducks out to a holiday party in the middle of the press conference? And he has been selling it for the last 5 days-3 press conferences and a hostage video.

And Krauthammer is saying that the Reps are being "played"?

The lame duck congress should turn out the lights and go home. Let the rates expire and have a new congress deal with the Pelosi-Obama mess.

centralcal

Via Allahpundit, this Twitter from Michael Goldfarb:

"Finally, America has a black President again."

Uncle BigBad

I don't believe Obama was keeping Michelle waiting; I believe he just lost interest in the subject at hand.

"Over to you, Bubba."

Threadkiller

Michael Goldfarb must have liked my poem.

macphisto

"Black to you."

Captain Hate

Yes this meltdown is proceeding quite nicely; albeit a little ahead of schedule. I think we're at Stage 3 where inexplicable bizarre ish starts happening; I didn't think that would occur until the new Congress was seated. I'm a bit disgusted at some of the comments @ AoS that state having Clenis in charge would be a *good* thing.

Uncle BigBad

The more I think about it, the more I believe Obama's bizarre behavior at the press conference could lead to equally bizarre consequences. . .

e.g. Bill Clinton becomes chief-of-staff and thereby, de facto president (with Soro's approval, of course).

Might be preferable to having Biden take over while the Won is in rehab.

DebinNC

The only thing Obama had on his">http://www.politico.com/politico44/">his schedule today (right column) was a meeting with Bill Clinton at 3:00, timed I'd guess to allow him to duck out early with the party excuse. He may be so wee-wee'd up he can't keep the mask in place for more than a few minutes.

OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT

There.

This morning I happened to be in my car and I turned on Rush. I don't listen to him that much, but lately he really seems to have lost his game. So this morning this is how he started out:

Does the name Steve Schwarzman mean anything to you? Stephen Schwarzman is a Republican. He has been involved in Republican fundraising, but he founded the Blackstone Group. The Blackstone Group is a humongous investment vehicle. Pete Peterson, a former Commerce secretary with Nixon is part of this group, and they're huge. He's a Republican. Steve Schwarzman is leaving the country. He's announced he's moving to Paris. He says half the country is doing it right, but we're not. It's a direct comment on Obama. The move is not permanent but he's getting out of the country the next three to six months to conduct business. He doesn't like being a target. Carried interest is how the Blackstone Group makes its money and that's an area for tax increases Obama is targeting, carried interest, the hedge funds. So he's getting out of the country. He has the means, the ability. He's not renouncing citizenship, but he's just getting out. He wants to go someplace else to conduct business.

...The Blackstone Group is a humongous investment vehicle. Pete Peterson, a former Commerce secretary with Nixon is part of this group, and they're huge. He's a Republican. Steve Schwarzman is leaving the country. He's announced he's moving to Paris.

Did I go too long on that quote? Should I be sending money to Rush? I think not.

Anyway.

You can go here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carried_interest#United_States

to find out about carried interest and how it's treated for tax purposes. Basically, it's a vehicle by which hedge fund managers avoid treatment of their income as regular income and have it treated as capital gains, instead. They got this special deal because Congress felt that having their income taxed as regular income--like any other peon--was a horrible injustice. Heh. Did I tell you about that bridge I'm selling?

Does it offend anyone else that these super rich guys are jumping ship, heading for foreign ports o' call, to maximize their income? I mean, I guess they can do it, but Rush seems to want me to feel sorry for these patriotic GOPers. Oh, yeah--they're big time GOPers, "fundraisers." And because they're so patriotic I'm sure they've never hinted at any sort of policy return for their fundraising activities. Right.

So this is conservatism? This is the revolution? What was Rush saying about creeps like Alec Baldwin who claimed they'd jump ship over policy disagreements with a president? Doesn't pass the sniff test. I wonder who handles Rush's money.

Re the WH presser, we have among us the perfect person to ask the Helen Thomas questions.

Extraneus

Don't underestimate these scumbags.

RichatUF

Not underestimating them, but I don't see how this mess could be considered a "win" for anyone. It has that Demonpass feel to it and wonder what sort of ghoulish delights Pelosi Skellington and the administration are crafting into legistlation.

I guess it was to be expected, but dissapointing just the same, in the LUN

narciso

squaredance

Well, it is certainly reassuring that we have a black president back in the WH field questions.

Seriously, have we ever see such a thing?

It would be hilarious if ti was another country.

Thomas Collins

Congress did not give hedge fund managers a special deal on carried interest. What is referred to now as carried interest is simply the application of a principle of federal income tax law that under certain circumstances, employees or independent contractors providing services to certain pass through entities (such as a partnership or a limited liability company classified as a partnership for federal income tax purposes) may have an interest in the entity's profits. If those profits are taxed as ordinary income (such as operational profits from a trade or business), the income is passed through as ordinary income. If those profits are capital gain (such as gains from a pass through entity's stock sales which activities are classified as investment, not dealer activities), the income is passed through as capital gain.

Hedge funds certainly have made strenuous efforts to stop proposed legislation to limit the applicability of the above noted rule, and individuals of good faith can differ on whether such rule should be limited. However, the fact remains that the so-called carried interest rule is not a special hedge fund rule.

Janet

On FB a comment -
Okay, two narcissists walk into a briefing room...

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Clinton giving a WH presser (video) while Obama walks out is absolutely surreal. I guess Obama is dropping all pretense that he is up to the job.

Danube of Thought

I think there has been a bit more bizarre presidential behavior in the past few days than the country can come to grips with. Tuesday's presser and now this--people will begin to wonder WTF...

anduril

I stand corrected re special treatment, but for the rest...

PaulL

They didn't lie when they said an Ibama presidency would be historic.

MaryD

Sara, OT but one more thank you for alerting me to the fact that you don't need a Kindle to download Kindle books. I'm currently reading W's 'Decision Points', which is great, and have also downloaded all of the latest Mitch Rapp sagas.

The things you learn on JOM!

DebinNC

Good grief, Obama interrupted Clinton mid-sentence. And this was near the beginning of the presser, not 45 min. later when Obama's bolting for the door might make some sense.

Threadkiller

andruil stands corrected too. This is a hell of a day. :-)

Threadkiller

I meant anduril. I stand corrected.

maryrose

Janet: I love your last comment! Two narcissists indeed.
DebinNC: I agree, Obama semmed hopped up onsomething. His departure was just weird. He has no concern for our economic welfare and frankly I think he is bored with the topic now. He can't believe there could possibly be any opposition. Dr. K had it right when he said you have the seasoned pro and the rookie.

Jane the hostage taker

Has anyone heard a peep out of the republicans regarding the pork added to the bill?

Biden said "take it or leave it" - does this mean Pelosi and Reid will refused to bring the original bill to the floor? How is it going to work?

I thought Clinton looked like he was on death's door. But I loved the fact that Obama could not wrestle the podium back from him.

hit and run

So I got to see Clinton speak a couple nights ago. He was going on and on about how he thought the tax compromise was a good deal.

Of course,he went on and on about a lot of things. Most of them related to how wonderful his presidency was compared to the rest of recorded human history. And when it wasn't that,it was about how the Clinton Global Initiative was the most wonderful thing compared to the rest of recorded human history.

Nary a mention of Obama by name,by the way.

anduril

andruil stands corrected too. This is a hell of a day. :-)

Certainly. Corrected but still standing, because I'm willing to learn. That was a throwaway post anyway, just venting about Rush...

hit and run

OK,yeah,just watched the short clip.

"I don't want to make her mad, please go," Clinton told Obama.

That "please" is the equivalent of "bless your heart" for those who dabble in Southern-speak.

"Distancing himself from Republican Party orthodoxy (as he's prone to doing), Texas Congressman Ron Paul gave a rousing speech on the U.S. House floor in support of WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange. "Why is the hostility directed at Assange, the publisher, and not at our governments failure to protect classified information?" asked Paul. He went on to compare WikiLeaks to the Pentagon Papers, explaining how both exposed American wars that were based on "lies." He also asked his colleagues which events caused more deaths, "Lying us into war, or the release of the WikiLeaks papers?"

I believe Mad Ben still has a decent chance of getting fair to good historical reviews for his efforts. I have reservations about QE II+ but QE I protected the pension funds from severe losses due to the lunatics at the GSEs. He can't single handedly restore the confidence destroyed by the Wall Street geniuses dabbling with (oh hell - going full bore with) fraud in the MBS market.

Corporations have built cash balances to the point where dismemberment of the big zombies won't cause them much difficulty and he's doing his best to help individuals restore household balances through market manipulations.

Given the magnitude of the problem, I don't think he has really done all that badly - considering the Kendonesian commie in the WH and the death wish proglodytes who used to control Congress.
