Over at Memorandum is this eye-catching headline/byline:
Joe Biden / Washington Post:
Obama: On the way to a failed presidency?
On the way?!? One presumes the question is rhetorical. In fact, it is quite serious, but the author is not Joe Biden, it is Katrina vanden Heuvel of the Unchastened Nation.
She is a bit worried about the arc of the Obama Administration:
Now the not-so-subtle retreats are turning into a rout.
But history beckons!
Forget about electoral mandates or campaign promises. This president has a historic mandate. Just as Abraham Lincoln had to lead the nation from slavery and Franklin Roosevelt from the Depression, this president must lead the nation from the calamitous failures of three decades of conservative dominance.
No worries, and remember, Obama is a basketball player. Just as on the unforgiving hardwoods a true Sky King bends his knees and moves closer to the ground before commencing his mighty skyward thrust, Obama is simply gathering himself before a dazzling leap (or lurch, anyway) to the left.
Wel, unless he just topples over. Time will tell!
MORE: James Joyner is still waiting for the Joe Biden column, but he has a screen shot in the meantime.
Will TFWOTIUS be writing a letter to the editor taking exception or will Gibbsy be talking to the professional left "like a dog"?
All the king's men and all the king's horses couldn't put Humpty back together again!

If the progs are not being clever, they are totally deranged. Anyone who doesn't understand that Obama has advanced the bureaunanny state as far as it could be advanced at the moment must be deranged. It's not that Obama is failing, it's that bureaunannnyism is not the karma of a self-evident truths polity with folks who, whether or not they have ever studied the background of the Declaration of Independence, understand the vigor and self reliance that a people in a self-evident truths polity must exhibit. I hope that the Obama Administration is the high water mark of the bureaunanny state in America. If that turns out to be the case and the bureaunanny state recedes in the future, the receding will be in spite of, not due to, Obama's efforts.

TC-
That limit only applies to what is observable which is why the work on education is both so important and ultimately debilitating.
It's below the radar screen.
You actually have the same ed profs responsible for both the reading and math wars preparing a 2011 summit for new governors, especially the RGA, on how wonderful the new national standards are.
The national standards assume the US is no longer a free market economy and that the federal government controls the economy and will provide all citizens with meaningful work at a living wage.
That's why education is so important to Obama. It's the back door in without being observed.
A Carnegie report I read on the standards actually commented that the US system as a republic had always been an impediment to what was desired in federalizing education but that luckily the 2008 financial crisis had created an opening that the DoED was now able to exploit.

I'm guessing it's two fold. Those who just want "the rich" to pay out of some weird animosity. Of course, many of them are rich, and my guess is Katrina VandenHueval will continue to take every tax deduction available to her and her trust fund.
Then there are the poorly informed, who do believe the tax cuts for "the rich" are what stands between here and fiscal responsibility.

"This president has a historic mandate. Just as Abraham Lincoln had to lead the nation from slavery and Franklin Roosevelt from the Depression,"
That's comedy gold, right there! Roosevelt's policies prolonged the depression. Moreover, the depression was so big because it was the bust portion of the first boom/bust cycle the federal reserve created with its easy money policies and mismanagement of the money supply. The first depression was so big because the boom part was so big (the roaring twenties). This occurred just seven years after the fed was created, after over a century of periodic but mild and short lived recessions, which were the norm when we still had sound money. Q: What does that have to do with Roosevelt? A: Roosevelt's philosophical predecessor in the "progressive" movement was Woodrow Wilson, who was responsible for eliminating sound money by way of creation of the federal reserve.

I think my favorite part of teh press conference was when he said he has accomplished everything he campaigned on - or was in the process of accomplishing that.
Cut to Jim Geraghty posted before the presser.
Guanatanamo Bay is not closed, and will not close. At least 50,000 U.S. troops will remain in Iraq through 2011. There is talk that U.S. troops will remain in Afghanistan through 2014. Rendition will continue. Government wiretapping is expanded, not receded. Obama has refused to release controversial photos that allegedly show detainee abuse. The Obama administration asserts the authority to kill al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists, even ones that are American citizens, without trial. There will be no KSM trial in Manhattan; the administration now sees the wisdom of military tribunals. There have been no summits with the leaders of Iran, or North Korea, or Cuba, or Syria. (Obama met Chavez at a Latin America summit.) Obama’s Middle East peace initiative has gone nowhere, a fool’s errand considering the deep-rooted, longstanding furies and divisions in the region.
Domestically, there will be no Card Check. There will be no cap-and-trade. There will be no amnesty, no DREAM act. The man who denounced Bush’s recess appointments now uses the tool regularly. Bill language isn’t posted online for five days before signed into law. NAFTA will not be renegotiated; new trade deals with countries like South Korea are signed instead. No “windfall profit tax” will be enacted. He has frozen federal workers’ pay. His deficit commission rejected a VAT and proposed a slew of spending cuts that liberals find unacceptable.
Obamacare? The GOP is hell-bent on repealing it. If Obama loses in 2012, it’s gone.
But hey, liberals, cheer up. You got the Lilly Ledbetter Pay Act.

From Haaretz:
Top rabbis move to forbid renting homes to Arabs, say 'racism originated in the Torah'
Dozens of Israel's municipal chief rabbis signed on to the ruling, which comes just months after the chief rabbi of Safed initiated a call urging Jews to refrain from renting or selling apartments to non-Jews.
By Chaim Levinson
A numbr of leading rabbis who signed on to a religious ruling to forbid renting homes to gentiles – a move particularly aimed against Arabs – defended their decision on Tuesday with the declaration that the land of Israel belongs to the Jews.
Dozens of Israel's municipal chief rabbis signed on to the ruling, which comes just months after the chief rabbi of Safed initiated a call urging Jews to refrain from renting or selling apartments to non-Jews.
Signatories include the chief rabbis of Ramat Hasharon, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, Rishon Letzion, Carmiel, Gadera, Afula, Nahariya, Herzliya, Nahariya and Pardes Hannah, among a number of other cities.
"We don't need to help Arabs set down roots in Israel," Rabbi Shlomo Aviner of the Beit El settlement, said on Tuesday. Aviner explained that he supported the move for two reasons: one, a Jew looking for an apartment should get preference over a gentile; and two, to keep the growing Arab population from settling too deeply.
"Racism originated in the Torah," said Rabbi Yosef Scheinen, who heads the Ashdod Yeshiva. "The land of Israel is designated for the people of Israel. This is what the Holy One Blessed Be He intended and that is what the [sage] Rashi interpreted."

tax cuts to millionaires while cutting benefits for unemployed families at Christmastime
Who did that?
Oh, wait. NO ONE did that. No one said they wanted to do it.
In fact, the question isn't about cutting EITHER. It's about not letting taxes automatically increase because Democrats hate people keeping their own money, and about whether or not to extend unemployment benefits AGAIN.

So if the SS tax goes from 6.2 to 4.2%, does anyone know if that's for both employee and employer, or are they trying to disconnect the two after all these years? If it's the latter, that's a bad sign, because it'll be difficult to increase the employee tax back to 6.2% after a year, and much easier to make the employer "match" 8.2% instead.

So JOMer's at last acknowledge that:
1. The press, including the liberal commentariat, is perfectly willing to slam Obama.
2. Far from a left-wing ideologue, Obama is a political opportunist focused primarily on surfing public opinion and forming financially beneficial alliances.
3. Stocks have rallied under Obama and the economy is indeed rebounding
4. Obama hasn't raised taxes.
5 Obama hasn't ``invited'' terrorist attacks in the way Cheney insisted he would.

He is the first BLACK President, and you can never take that from him.

Did you hover? The comments aren't as great as the pic, but it's a cool feature.

Are these things that Soylent really likes?
What Specter?...the stuff in the FB photos?
I haven't gotten much feedback really. He requested a super-loud alarm clock, a phone card,...he liked the weight lifting gloves. I sent cigars, but Soylent doesn't smoke. He sounded like he used them to barter for good will! :) He requested junk food while at the FOB because all the guys loved it ...but at the main base he was working out & didn't want a lot of junk food. He also requested anti-bacterial lotion & single packets of Gatorade while at the FOB.
I've sorta based it on what my church sends...only on a smaller scale.

Who was the statue to Lenin's right?

Holy Cow! The history books are full">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American_heritage_of_United_States_presidents">full of Presidents who claim black heritage. Well at least Obama can still claim to be the first to have failed on his own merits. And you can still be proud that he is Black and a failure. Racist.

Thread noodler is more descriptive of your
acumen. Or is 'killer' meant to be ironic?
