This is a laugh riot:

AWOL Wisconsin Democrat calls CNN with List of Demands

State Senator Mark Miller, a member of the missing band of Wisconsin Democratic lawmakers who fled Madison Thursday to avoid a vote on a budget bill, called into CNN with the group’s list of demands for Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

Miller, a state senator since 2004, would not disclose where he and his colleagues were hiding out, saying only “we are in what we consider a secure location outside the capital. We are not all in one place at this time.”

Miller’s demands focused on the collective bargaining portions of the bill.

“We demand that the provisions that completely eliminate the ability of workers… to negotiate on a fair basis with their employers be removed from the budget repair bill and any other future budget,” Miller said.

Some one posted about how Wisconsin could give more import to home schooling. Well, in Florida we have a very liberal (God,I love it when I can use that word poitively) home schooling policy. Take for exemple one Tim Tebow. Home school, but still played football for the local HS team. Good enough to become arguably the greatest college player ever. We also have a virtual school that augmennts and backfills those voids in both public and private education. They are even teaming up with Khan Academy.

I think the public sector unions including tha teachers have no idea who their enemy/competitor really is - its the access to portable educational resources. After listening the last day to The Woz, we are approching a Maiginot Line in adapting technology in such a way that more and more human activity can be delegated to others than humans (i.e. teachers and their leadership neanderthals).

Jane (get off the couch - come save the country)

If someone is asking about birthers today, then we know it is being used as a distraction from Wisconsin.

I wish Walker would say:

If you don't return to your jobs by tomorrow you are all fired; and if the democrats don't come back to the legislature I'm calling a special election.

BGates, I don't think Brown's admission will hurt him. So many people let bad backgrounds get in their way and the real lesson is you can suffer thru abuse and still be successful. Frankly I don't think Brown has much to worry about - I could be wrong. I also hope Kerry replaces Clinton so we can have another bite at the tea party apple.

Ignatz

--The local TV news has lefty nutjobs spinning like tops with more and more schools closing.--

If their goal is to demonstrate why public employee unions are a bad idea, they couldn't have picked a better tactic.

Jane (get off the couch - come save the country)

I just don't think I will ever get over the democrats hiding. That just says everything.

Jack is Back!

Anyone remember what happened to Reagn's popularity after he fired the ATC's? IIRC, it sky rocketed, since it had been way down over the MFM criticism of trickle domn. I may be wrong but that is how I remember it.

clarice

I think O shoulda kept his mouth shut. I can't imagine this thuggery is winning the Dems or the unions any votes.

Ignatz

--My b-i-l says Madison is like Cairo right now.--

People in the streets yes, otherwise the opposite of Cairo.
Egypt has a long entrenched bureaucracy that has heretofore been looting the people watching as the masses gather on the street to take their sinecure's away.
WI has a new kid on the block representing the people facing off against a street mob composed entirely of the entrenched bureaucracy attempting to bully the masses into continuing to give them their gold plated sinecures.

Jack is Back!

Iggy,

You're right. In Madison we have the pro-govertment status quo looters demanding that the producers pay more for them so they can keep on looting. Big difference compared to Cairo. This is a pro-fascist movement not a democratic one.

 centralcal

Jim Geraghty via Twitter shows us one of the "wait staff" at the resort where the Dems are in hiding:

 centralcal

Speaker of the House John Boehner today credited Wisconsin’s Republican Governor Scott Walker for taking “courageous action” and “daring to speak the truth” about his state’s financial difficulties and ripped President Obama for criticizing Walker’s proposed reforms and failing to show leadership on the economy.

Glad to see Boehner countering Obama.

Clocktower?! If it were any state but IL, I'd worry about them having rifles.

MayBee

The Dems leaving the state is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever heard.

Henry

Ann & CC- quit tempting me, Rockford is only 45 minutes SW and I have to work tomorrow. : )

 centralcal

pssst, Henry - the pretty wait staff persons are supposedly at the "Tilted Kilt."

What is a tilted kilt, anyway? Betcha they don't quite look like the model above, however.

 centralcal

The Dems leaving the state is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever heard.

Oh, it gets worse, MayBee - they are even calling into CNN with their list of demands, like hostage takers. *eyeroll*

bgates

DoT, had you seen this, or is that just an idea that's in the air?

Jane, I didn't think it would hurt him, I just thought it was despicable for the civility police to use the term "beatable" while reflecting on a story in which he talked about being physically and sexually beaten.

Henry

CC, not in Rockford anyway. 15 school districts closed per local news.

Janet

That girl looks like she's been to one of those evil tanning salons!...and her outfit doesn't look like it has pockets, so she better be careful where she tucks her tips, or the Dems will grab the money.

Capt.H
You arenot going to believe who is out in Wisconsin protesting the Governor's decision to modify union contracts. Our Ex Governor Strickland is out there. We fired his as# and now he's causing trouble in Wisconsin. This is a loser strategy for the dems and they will have to vote on this and now they won't get jack-shi# from the repubs in their legislature. Everyone of those teachers should be docked pay. We had a Catholic school teachers strike in Cleveland in 1979 ans all of our pays were docked.

bgates

If it were any state but IL, I'd worry about them having rifles.

They're elected officials, Rob. More likely to have unregistered handguns, which would be carried by staff anyway.

Chubby

Total sabotage of the democratic process. If they can't win, they won't play.

Ignatz

--Oh, it gets worse, MayBee - they are even calling into CNN with their list of demands, like hostage takers. *eyeroll*--

Except they took themselves hostage and seem to think someone wants them back.
Can a National Guardsman fill in for a legislator?

clarice

If anyone here thinks this is a winning strategy for the unions, speak now or forever hold your peace. I think this is like self-immolation...the last desperate move of a person who lost.

Chubby

Henry

The rifles belong to the one million WI deer hunters who are not happy with the way the Dems screwed up hunting regulations.

 centralcal

No kidding, Clarice. Actually, I think more states will soon follow suit - WI Governor having led the way.

Rob Crawford

You arenot going to believe who is out in Wisconsin protesting the Governor's decision to modify union contracts. Our Ex Governor Strickland is out there. We fired his as# and now he's causing trouble in Wisconsin.

I believe a similar bill is going to come up for vote here in Ohio; Strickland's there setting up contacts so he can bus in thugs protesters with experience.

Besides, it's all one big corrupt family. Like the Mob, but without any sense of style.

Interesting, 5 o'clock news leads with Dems "fled" the state. The spin is failing here. They may be on the move to Dubuque

MarkO

What? They refuse to vote present? What a bunch of pussies. Obama said, in effect, that the legislature was acting stupidly.

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vjnjagvet

Here are some photographs taken yesterday by Meade (my husband) at the demonstration against Gov. Scott Walker's budget plan:

Wait a tick, do I have this right -- the 14 Dem Wisconsin State Senators checked into a hot sheets motel in Illinois, and took themselves hostage like the Sheriff in Blazing Saddles. That can't be right?

Obama admin. asks judge to clarify health ruling

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — The Justice Department asked a federal judge in Florida on Thursday to tell states that they must continue to enact the Obama administration’s health care overhaul despite the judge’s ruling that the law is unconstitutional.

In a motion to clarify, administration attorneys asked U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson to make clear that states cannot ignore the new health care laws while his ruling is being appealed.

Didn't Vinson's ruling assume that the Feds would comply with the ruling as unconstitutional and therefore unenforceable?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Sara, all the kids inside the capitol rotunda had similar preprinted signs.

And from the interviews yesterday, the kids don't even know why.

Jack is Back!

Parents are the ones who should be concerned if their kid is more influenced by the teacher than parent. But this being Madison then it could be redudant on both parts. I feel sorry for those kids -thinking a career in social science is the avenue to riches and accoplishment.

Danube of Thought

Crowds look mighty white. Will we be hearing about that?

Henry

Local news. The head Dem (Sir Robin) said running away should be "enshrined in the state constitution.". That from Rockford before running away some more.

Locals not happy about teachers calling in sick at the last minute. Superintndants liking into disciplinary action.

MayBee

Fox says DNC is paying to bus in these protesters. The DNC!

maryrose

Yesterday they interviewed some of the students and most of them didn't know what they were doing there or what it was all about. What self-respecting student with a free day would be protesting anyway? In situations like these no out of state union thugs should be allowed in. I heard they are outside the homes of some lawmakers. This creates a public nuisance and could lead to civil unrest. Obama should shut up and concentrate on getting real about our deficits and the future of our country fiscally. Once again he does and says the wrong thing. He must really not want to get re-elected in 2012.

Henry

Looking into

Extraneus

So can the governor tell all the absent teachers tomorrow that if they don't show up with a doctors note on Monday, they're fired? How many would hold out, and how many would be frantically calling their doctors?

Divide and conquer, Gov. No need to fire all of the teachers. Make them battle each other.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Instapundit commenter nails it:

ANOTHER UPDATE: A reader emails: “What do you think would happen if a student in a public school called the principal a dictator and put crosshairs on his face? Given the prevailing zero-tolerance (aka zero-thought) policies, the best the student could hope for would be a lengthy suspension. These people really have no clue.”

Henry

Local news says even the protesters Are mad the Dems ran away.

Danube of Thought

Hadn't seen that, bgates, but it has a certain appeal. We could call it Lake Infidel.

Ignatz

--Fox says DNC is paying to bus in these protesters. The DNC!--

They have no choice. This is the start of the warfare that has been waged by the Dems for years against the productive and private on behalf of the public employee unions and their other parasitic interest groups, all of whom give them their power base, finally being forced out into the open.
This is the easy battle and it's a bugger. The challenge for the Republicans will be when the inevitable similar open warfare on the entitlement mess begins and the number of those vested in the spoils jumps exponentially. It will be a tricky balancing act dividing old geezer from young worker without harming either group too much, but enough to make a difference. If they pull it off the Dems will be in decline for many years.
Going all squaredance, this to me is the start of the inevitable war of whether the country slips into permanent decline or is saved.

Jane (get off the couch - come save the country)

Ignatz, if you are right, given today, I like our chances. It seems to me Governor Walker holds all the cards, and the battle is pretty much over with the democrats proving themselves to be spineless weasels in the process.

Rob Crawford

I heard they are outside the homes of some lawmakers.

As far as I'm concerned, a mob in front of my house baying for my blood qualifies as an "immediate threat of serious bodily harm".

Danube of Thought

What are the cards Walker holds? Can he really call a special election, for example?

Going all squaredance, this to me is the start of the inevitable war of whether the country slips into permanent decline or is saved.

I used to think such talk was hyperbolic. I no loner think that way. If the DNC assistance story is true, the Dems are deathly afraid Wisconsin is a test case and will try to win at all costs.

Re Gov Walker's cards- he has stated since his election that without this budget repair bill he will layoff 1500 state employees, continue and add unpaid furlow days, and begin outsourcing and selling off everything in sight. He is not bluffing, this is exactly what he did as Milwaukee County Executive in the face of the Dem machine on the county board. I don't think he can call a special election, but the Rs control everything but Senate quorum and the WI line item veto makes Walker the most powerful governor in the UA.
