narciso

There was a h/t, with that last bit, TM, and here is another WTF moment on our side in the LUN

Captain Hate

Amazing narc; that idiot must've been somebody The Architect brought to the party.

steve

It would be comical... but for the fact that getting it right is somewhat important.

hit and run

OK,here we go.  I am doing this on the blackberry and shudder to think of all the ways this could go wrong.  But fate is with me,so I plow ahead undaunted.

Because this is just that big of deal.

Do you know who's birthday it is?!!!??!!!???!

[TheVIMH: Sarah Palin's!!!!]
Yeah, whatever, happy birthday Sarah.  You look damn good for 47. Yay,Sarah.

But I'm talking about someone waaaay more important.  And,at least in my estimation, way more attractive.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DoT!!!!!!!!!

A couple of weeks ago JMH was dubbed "The Most Interesting Woman In The World" on her birthday.

While it would certainly not detract from her title in any way to dub you "The Most Interesting Man In The World", and while it would completely be true at least in my estimation -- I have another title in mind:

The Most Irresistible Man In The World

And for those (unlike me, of course) who are swayed by appearances (even if not shirtless like the former congressman from NY,alas) -- I give to you, with semi-approval from the source himself, DoT at the recent ceremony honoring his sister in full medicine man garb:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mHhSQWDLMfQ/TULIu2nDvbI/AAAAAAAAAZg/api4EjBk1BY/s400/DoTmedium.JPG>

Yowza.

You are no doubt exponentially more irresistible with each and every martini -- but even absent any whatsoever, the title still holds.

Oh,and by The List's calculations -- this is a big one,is it not?  Your wisdom and wealth of experience easily belies your age,but your attitude and vigor presents you as a man half that.

I hope your recent success in the weight-loss endeavor that has been accompanied by the absence of martinis is put on hold today for the celebrations.  For what it's worth,I plan on celebrating with you beginning as soon as it is humanly possible to escape the dungeon in which they pay me to labor.

So let the festivities begin.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I plan on celebrating your birthday all weekend long.

There are many people at JOM about whom I love to brag about being friends with. And brag I do very often.  But you, without question, top that list.

Happy Birthday!

Captain Hate

Happy birthday, DoT.

Sorry but more attractive than Sarah Palin just isn't possible.

narciso

Happy birthday, DoT, that hat is like the one that Jayne from Firefly, would wear with supreme confidence, and it goes without saying
, on the other part.

Melinda Romanoff

Happy Birthday, DoT!

Extraneus

What a great pic. Happy Birthday Danube!

hit and run

Goodness,a big oversight on my part -- that pic is courtesy of Jane. I certainly couldn't have ever hoped to get that from DoT myself . . . she has her ways.

Janet

narciso's quote reference - "Man walks down the street in a hat like that, you know he's not afraid of anything."

Happy Birthday DoT!

Nokiatakeswindows

Since O wants to tax gas lets steal some more british pounds. They were supposed to double to 40 billion.

Extraneus

Did everyone read that (this time written) statement from the "dispirited" Obama? Utterly pathetic.

Pagar

Narciso, I believe your LUN at 06:58 AM may be the most discouraging thing I have read about the Egypt situation since it started.

centralcal

Happy Birthday DoT! Hope you have a great year ahead and can enjoy a wonderful martini on this great day.

Melinda Romanoff

Pagar-

I trust an institution that's been in power for over 59 years than a member of the US Intelligence community (which actually rolls off the tongue like "community organizer").

Captain Hate

TM doesn't go far enough on the Panetta gaffe. If that idiot, who was a horrible choice to head the already worthless CIA, is getting his info from the MFM who slavishly reports what this clusterfuck administration gives it, it's nothing more than a closed loop of stupid. And Rogers is fine with that?

We are so totally boned. I hope Israel and the Saudis are working together to inject some sanity into the Egypt situation and circumvent what the Clown Car administration is doing.

Pigilito

'The director of the Office of National Intelligence James Clapper today told a House Intelligence Committee hearing that the Egyptian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood – which seeks Egypt to become an Islamic state ruled by sharia law – is “a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried Al Qaeda as a perversion of Islam.”'

And Poland wasn't behind the Iron Curtain. Politicians just want to believe what they want to believe.

Extraneus

It's obvious that nobody in the administration is talking to anybody in the Egyptian regime. Not the State Department, CIA or any other department. Otherwise, they could have picked up the phone before Mubarak's speech. On top of that, we're also apparently not talking to anyone who *is* talking to the Egyptians. Even the Saudis wouldn't tell us he wasn't stepping down?

This is more than FUBAR.

Melinda Romanoff

And this letter pointed out by Prof. Reynolds, puts some wonderful perspective to the events that have unfolded over the last decade.

Very insightful, also, VDH's latest missive is pretty cutting on that "community" thingie.

Hrothgar

Questions I would have liked to see asked:
"Just what part of Muslim don't you understand, sir?"

Janet

it's nothing more than a closed loop of stupid.

Great line.

Captain Hate

Interesting link, Mel; where the existence of the Soviets kept the nation from electing an obviously ignorant grifter like B+ Hussein, although I'd say we were already pretty far down that dirt road to oblivion by putting the smooth talking white trash predator Bent Willy into the same spot.

Melinda Romanoff

I thought the "Vacation from Reality" was a bit like the committed left driving U-Hauls down the Yellow Brick Road. They're only going to go 55.

Now, they've convinced themselves that removing the governors will remove the role inertia can play with a full load.

(You can play with all the doubles I loaded int that at will.)

Jane (sit on the couch or save your country)

Yippeee DOT! Hope it is the best one evah! (can anyone remember their best one evah?)

Ranger

Well, one of the things that becomes very apparent from all this is just how broken both journalism and our intel community is. One of the key roles of journalists is to tell us what people said. Not what the journalist thought they said, and not the journalists' interpretation of what they said, but what they said.

Last weekend, one of the members of the 'wise men' group that is participating in the negotiations with the government was on AJ and said one of the key things that they are pushing for is that all responsibility for implimentation of reforms be handed over to the VP. This was important because one of the key demands of the demonstrators is that Mubarak not be responsible for the implimentation of the reforms. The 'wise men' group believes that Mubarak handing power over to the VP substantivly meets the demonstrators' demands.

So, yesterday, as this is brewing up we get lots of press reportst that senior Egyptian officials are confirming that Mubarak will step down. One of the senior military leaders even went to the square to make a statement supposedly to that effect. It turns out, that what he actually said was "tonight your demands will be met." That's important because the Egyptian government has been very careful to use very specific wording. When they say "your demands will be met" they do not mean the president will step down, they mean that power will be transfered to the VP for implimenting reforms.

But, since no one in either the press or the CIA seems to be actually listening to what the government is saying, they just hear "your demands will be met' and assume it means the president is stepping down.

At this point, I don't think Mubarak ever intended to step down yesterday. He intended to make the formal announcement of the transfer of some powers to the VP. All the rest was just wild speculation on the part of people who have forgotten what their jobs really are.

Captain Hate

Meanwhile we have a developing situation in Pockeestahn that the Clown Car Crew has TOP MEN working on to resolve in the most inept nation-harming way possible. I'd say the arrested embassy employee, Raymond Davis, is toast unless the Pakis can wring out enough national embarrassment from B+ to get him to bite.

Appalled

So Panetta bases his "high confidence" testimony to Congress based on rumors braodcast on CNN...

Well, I guess that just demonstrates that the head of the CIA actually has no intelligence.

Rob Crawford

But, since no one in either the press or the CIA seems to be actually listening to what the government is saying, they just hear "your demands will be met' and assume it means the president is stepping down.

They are members of the community-based reality.

(And the very origin of that snark demonstrates more of the same. An anonymous quote supposedly from a member of an administration the press set out to destroy from before it took office, yet treated as TRVTH by those who it flattered. No sense of skepticism, no sense of doubt, not even a shred of willingness to "question authority".)

Melinda Romanoff

Cap'n-

He's a pawn in the Paki/India peace talks. TThe Pakis probably intend to leverage the Ibama Admin into pressuring the Indians to cede part of Kashmir.

I hope their bus has big tires.

Ranger

Well, I guess that just demonstrates that the head of the CIA actually has no intelligence.

Posted by: Appalled | February 11, 2011 at 09:17 AM

Or that he simply has no faith in his own agency.

Given this turn of events, why even bother with the morning briefing in the Oval Office. Barry could just switch on CNN International and get the same quality of information and analysis that Panetta priveds, and Barry wouldn't even have to get out of his jammies.

Rob Crawford

Hmmm... I think I'm about to be banned from Hot Air.

Janet

via Instapundit - GOProud Party, Breitbart's Proudest Hour

From the article - "Pretty soon it may be cool to be a Republican and square to be a Democrat."

Trying to be cool gave us Obama. What is cool anyway?
Embracing cool lifestyles has me taking care of my neighbor who had a stroke & whose husband left her & the kids for a much cooler younger woman.
I don't want to be a part of adolescent coolness.

Sue

Happy birthday, DoT. You are as handsome as I imagined you were.

Captain Hate

Hmmm... I think I'm about to be banned from Hot Air.

Congratulations, who's getting the golden shower: AllahBeta or Poppin' Fresh? Or is it that new castrato Jazz Shaw or something like that? It's been over a year since I posted there; it's like the AoS WNBA.

Janet

Oprah wants us to respect Obama.

integrity??? believed in his heart????

Ranger:

When the CIA director says there is "High Confidence" about something, he is using the language of daily intelligence briefings, and is thereby implying his agency has solid information independent from the expertise one gets from staying in a Holiday Inn Express.

What Panetta did, with his testimony, and with the subsequent leaks, is a do a number on his own credibility.

Janet,

Where was the respect when Bush was president? Where was the angst that people didn't respect the office of president when Bush held it? Oprah can kiss my ass. Said with all kinds of respect and everything.

Rick Ballard

At least on ME leader sides completely with the President. Perhaps the two should issue a joint communique of solidarity?

Captain Hate

I think I'll check it out. Great comment on the Malor thread about GOProud; that he attended CPAC tells me all I need to know about the usefulness of it. Tammy Bruce is in attendance and I expect her to come out next week with guns a'blazing regarding the Paultards and setting things in order on wtf is up with GOProud.

Janet

exactly Sue.

Posted by: Appalled | February 11, 2011 at 09:36 AM

Yes, exactly. And by making that statement he was saying that he had more confidence in CNN than his own shop. I would bet that yesterday morning, when the rumors started flying, Panetta asked his people what was going on and they told him they had no idea, because the rumors didn't in any way match the situation on the ground. So, rather than say what his own analysists were telling him, that the current rumors were interesting, but the situation was unclear, he chose the CNN hyperventelation.

Jane (sit on the couch or save your country)

Janet,

Are you sure you aren't just reacting to the fact that it was GOPac?

Gays have a natural place in the GOP because they share our fiscal values. Hard work, entrepreneurial spirit, fiscal conservatism.

centralcal

Oh boy, another statement expected from Mubarak per Twitter.

Changing subjects abruptly, where has Ann been? Anyone heard from her?

Janet

I liked this article at Am. Thinker about social conservatives.

from the article - "...that if we focus on spending or regulation alone we become like the doctor who gives a patient medicine to treat obvious external symptoms but ignores an underlying pattern of destructive behavior."
and
"As part of the takeover of power in Russia, communists first sought to destroy and weaken the two key social pillars of a free society: 1) the natural family and 2) faith or religiosity. Once these were destroyed the vacuum created enabled the communist government to easily step in and fill the void."

Pagar

Happy Birthday, DOT!
----------------------------------------------
From Mel's 08:28 AM link

"Just ponder how a third-rate community organizer — from the most incestuously corrupt political region in the U.S.; with a record of participation in the most vulgar gathering of Jeremiah Wright posing as a reverend, spouting Fanonian rhetoric and bigotry; with mentors such as the unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers; channelling the teachings of Saul Alinsky and Rashid Khalidi of the Chomsky school of self-loathing and sophistry — could advance through the ranks of American politics at an astounding speed, with little or no record of experience in government, to become the 44th president"

Follow that with the news that the CIA director uses the Communist News Network (CNN) for his source, that our National Intelligence Director doesn't have a clue concerning the (Muslin Brotherhood),that Obama promotes so often, and that the Republican heading up the House Intelligence Committee thinks it's OK that no one in the Obama Administration has a clue about foreign policy: One is left to wonder if anyone in a position of any authority in Washington D.C. knows or cares what the Obama Administration is doing?

IMO, the entire group seems committed to promoting the MB.

Pagar-

I'm sure Prof. Ayers-Ret. was over there to see the sights and enjoy the reknowned plumbing, last year.

Janet

Are you sure you aren't just reacting to the fact that it was GOPac?

Probably I am. I don't want to hear about anyone's sex preference. Do I need to join some heterosexual group? Is there a celibacy group? A missionary position group?

I've got to go thru the thread from the top and start reading the serious links but before I do--Happy Birthday DOT!!!!--You are one handsome Injun devil.

MelindaR--

OT-- way off topic-- yesterday proves that while Greenspan's 2002-2005 ez money was the ultimate causation of the Financial Meltdown, Fannie/Freddie were the next most important causation in terms of skewing market conditions and yielding disasterous results. How can I prove that? Yesterday Jamie Dimon's Commission testimony (Fannie/Freddie BIGGEST DISATER of all time) is released and the Obama Admin -- I'll repeat that-- the Obama Admin sends 3 options to Congress all winding down Fannie/Freddie and ultimately ending taxpayer support. Eight years too late, but at least the truth is out. If yesterday's debacle about Egypt was rock bottom for this country, maybe we can start the road back to respectability, by:cutting Fed spending, reneg on State pensions, keep marginal income tax rates low, end all GSEs, (Ginnie, Amtrak, USPS et al), and finally the Fed stops Dollar debasement. Then we can start moving in the right direction.

Charlie (Colorado)

Happy birthday to the wonderful wonderful DoT!

Melinda Romanoff

NK-

I disagree, but it would be stealing someone else's nom de blog (threadkiller) if I went on a screed on how the BOJ, not Greenspan, was the easy money source back then. Then went on how the capital flowed, as a history, from the mid-eighties to the present Chinese money pumping, as an aside to the puny (yes, puny) QE2 machinations by the Fed.

I don't have the time, currently, to do it justice.

Gotta go with NK on this one. John Taylor, among others, has made a pretty conclusive case that Fed/Fan/Fred were the essential ingredients to the crackup. There were other elements, including foreign facilitators with their own agendas, but don't see how they could have facilitated it without being provided something to facilitate in the first place.

Good grief is the Obama Administration working with the Iranians to bring about fundamental change: "Despite all the (West's) complicated and satanic designs ... a new Middle East is emerging without the Zionist regime and U.S. interference, a place where the arrogant powers will have no place," Ahmadinejad told the crowd.

He also urged Egyptian protesters to persevere until there is a regime change. "It's your right to be free. It's your right to exercise your will and sovereignty ... and choose the type of government and the rulers."

After his address, Ahmadinejad carried a placard reading, "Death to Israel."

Money was cheaper to borrow in Japan, than anything Greenspan could provide, and had been since late '95. It took years to build up to unsustainable levels. This was the epitome of the folly of the carry trade.

Oh, and talk is that Mubarack may have just stepped aside.

Frau Indianerherz

Watch out DoT: I live *freeway close* and might have to come south to give my "Happy Birthday" in person. You and Palin and Tina Louise all share a day. What a troi!

So Mubarak stepped down?

Thomas Collins

Happy Birthday, DoT.

I'll pass on comment on the irresistibility of DoT. However, I can't let his birthday go by without acknowledging that, in the past year, agree with him or not on its implications for the natural born requirement in the Constitution, DoT has posted on JOM the best analysis on applicable federal law with respect to citizenship that the blogosphere or any other mediasphere has seen.

Dave (in MA)

Jane, that's what Reuters is reporting.

RichatUF

Ignatz-

I'm going to respectfully disagree. A modest adjustment to interest rates would have made little difference when rates were railed then ramped (rates were going up not down over the period in question), the Treasury US yield curve went negative twice, and the hottest housing markets were having 20+% price appreciations with standards tossed in the trash heap. A similiar method as Taylor recommends was tried to cool the 1920's Florida property bubble. It didn't cool (then pop) until after an explosion at the Port of Miami and 2 massive hurricanes.

All the best DoT!

NK

OT-- again-- I'd be very happy to extend Grenspan's ez money to include the BOJ created anti-deflation low interest rate carry trades and other ez money capital flows. That world wide ez money was the ultimate cause, but as far as the meltdown in US markets -- Bear Stearns, Lehman, AIG default insurance, Citibank, Countrywide etc etc, that resulted from securitzing home and other mortgages, Fannie/Freddie's actions caused the MAGNITUDE of the firestorm. I no longer have any doubt about that.

RichatUF

Damn-Mubarak and Suliman? Is the MB going to storm the US Embassy next?

Extraneus

Wonder if Obama is still "dispirited." Maybe he's dispirited about telling the world he was dispirited.

I bet he started smoking again, if he ever stopped for longer than hit stops drinking.

Rich, seems to me the country, and the world as a whole, was awash in cheap credit, facilitated by loose money from the Fed and other central banks, from the late nineties until now except for a brief period when the Fed, too late as always, tried to reign in excesses created by itself. By then of course it is far too late for anything to reinflate a bubble. Once a bubble is created has one ever ended with anything but a pop? Not that I know of. There's no way to fix a bubble; you have to make sure they're not created in the first place and the easiest way to create one is for central banks to try and manipulate currencies and economies with oceans of free money.

Porchlight

Happy Birthday DoT! I hope it's great. Are you going to end the drought and have a Martini?

Jane (sit on the couch or save your country)

Anyone want to bet that Obama takes credit for Mubarak leaving?

Melinda Romanoff

NO. BET.
