My guess is that those SEALs were going to waste every swingin' dick in that compound no matter what. No matter what.

Just a guess.

narciso

I'm from their hometown, maryrose, I give you special dispensation.

daddy

Quarter way thru the thread.

Interesting how the topic of doing DNA to prove it is OBL keeps coming up with caveats about why its not 100 definitive.

Seems to me that a decade ago when the Left wanted to claim that Thomas Jefferson was having sex with slave Sally Hemings, that all evidence from the actual period back in the 1810's when Jefferson denied it, and from the 200 year old DNA that couldn't possibly differentiate between Jefferson and his brother (who probably was in fact the sire of Hemings children), none of that made a lick of difference. Thomas Jefferson was to be the father of her children so so be it. Definitive proof, period.

But now with OBL, stand by for it to be refuted as often as you like, conflated with a son or son's or cousin or uncle or whomever. Am interested in seeing how that DNA question plays out, and if it is to be considered 100% reliable always, or only when interested parties need it to be seen as 100% reliable always.

Sue

maryrose,

The Mavs get bad calls because everyone hates Cuban. The Mavs just have to play past it.

maryrose

Ann:
Is that a new "do" for the first lady? It makes her look like a Chicago South Side hooker!

Ann

Isn't it ironic that the left tried to bring President Bush down with "The famous “16 words” in President Bush's Jan. 28, 2003 State of the Union address" but the 16 hours it took President Obama to make a decision getting the most wanted man on earth just might jsut do the trick.

My daughter would say Karma Baby!

MarkO

The officials of the NBA are corrupt and in many ways. But, I ask you to consider that many of them were caught cheating on taxes based on taking First Class airline tickets and cashing them in for Coach. Imagine. For that small amount of money they faced felony charges.

Add the official who was busted and remember how easy it is for a ref to fix a basketball game. Season with Stern's claim for a new "transparency" in officiating that turned out to be like Obama's.

I can't imagine betting on the NBA until I knew the makeup of the officials. Donaghy (the ref the FBI found, not the league) when asked if the league had athletic competition, replied that it was "entertainment."

May they lockout for a few years.

Danube of Thought

"The Mavs get bad calls because everyone hates Cuban."

Of course everyone hates Cuban. And perforce decent people everywhere hate his team.

It is always and everywhere appropriate to pray fervently for Celtics defeats--even against LeBron. Even against the Mavs, although they will never again meet this season.

Ann

jsut? oh well :)

Maryrose, you are too sweet.

I hate Cuban. You should hate Cuban, too.

--Of course everyone hates Cuban. And perforce decent people everywhere hate his team.--

I've tried to hate the Mavs but, despite Cuban's ample help in that direction, I just can't match my distaste for him with them.
Probably because of Nowitski.

narciso

I think you meant to link to 'Redacted' SC, I didn't want to bring that up, seeing as he's doing a good thing for the troops, on the other end,

Sue

Strawman,

I know. But not tonight.

The funny thing regarding Donaghy was if it wasn't for an FBI investigation into one of the bookies he used he'd probably still be reffing. LOL @ Stern trying to con everybody by saying that an internal investigation turned up no wrongdoing; like they were all of a sudden tremendous experts on things that had gone on under their noses for years. I'm sure Donaghy was a jerk but I felt bad for him after he served his time when the silver haired prick strongarmed a publisher that was gonna release Tim's tell-all into deep sixing it. It was hilarious then when Deadspin (the old one when it was funny before the Gawker douches bought them and made it extremely dumb with horrible software) had him commenting on the reffing throughout the Finals; he made some very good points.

Ann

Still catching up, but from a pic at one of Janet's links: Ha ha ha!

jimmyk

Am interested in seeing how that DNA question plays out, and if it is to be considered 100% reliable always, or only when interested parties need it to be seen as 100% reliable always.

Excellent point, daddy. As with decisions to show photographs, the rule seems to be: If DNA evidence is bad for America: 100% reliable. If it is good for America: Unreliable. The whole Jefferson-Hemmings thing has been repeated so much as being "proven" that it's considered a fact like the Earth revolves around the sun.

MarkO

I know I held forth here once about a friend, former FBI, that the NBA hired to go to games and report on the refs. I asked him how they would cheat. The methods he explained would describe any game called by Steve Javie or Elmer Fudd's love child.

jimmyk

I haven't caught up either, but in case it hasn't been discussed, doesn't the 25-minute video gap seem awfully, shall I say, convenient?

Danube of Thought

I agree that the silver lining of a Mavs win would be Dirk--a fine, fine fellow.

My dream Finals is Hawks v. Grizzlies garnering a nifty 1.1 in the Nielsens, after which David Stern goes down on a RICO beef. Frog-marched off to a federal work camp. All assets seized and deposited in court for distribution to fraud victims. Justice will be done.

Rick Ballard

Ann,

Do you really feel comfortable suggesting that someone with a short bus LifePass should make quick decisions? Given his decisions over the past two years I believe it safer to cheer the President for taking as much time as he wants with his Magic 8 Ball and Quija Board. If the number of decisions made over the next 18 months can be reduced to a minimum, so will the damage.

Personally, I think the President looks a little tired and needs more golf and vacation time.

MarkO

Rosemary Woods? Why Obama is like Nixon, part II.

Sue

Dirk and Kidd are future Hall of Famers. They need a ring. And by doggity, they are going to get it.

Did the SEALs really have silencers on their guns? I ask because I can't help but wonder why he didn't have it in his hands when the SEALs entered his room?

Danube of Thought

I ask because I can't help but wonder why he didn't have it in his hands when the SEALs entered his room?

Even if the weapons were silenced and the helos were of some mysto stealth design, he had to have heard the hard landing of the one helo and the scurrying about of 24 men throughout his house, plus the cries and shouts of the children and the guys who were shot before he was.

There's a great deal we don't know, and some of it we won't ever know.

daddy

Anybody know anything about this from ARABNews.com?

Key Al-Qaeda suspect Al-Qahtani surrenders.

"JEDDAH: Alleged Al-Qaeda operative Khaled Hadal Al-Qahtani, who figured high on a list of 47 most-wanted terrorists, has surrendered to Saudi security authorities, Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki announced on Wednesday...Al-Qahtani is believed to be the first Al-Qaeda operative to surrender after the death of Osama Bin Laden on Monday."

jimmyk

MarkO:
Obama is like Nixon, part II.

He is not that smart. But he is a liar.

Sue

DoT,

It just seems they keep coming up with a "new" story putting guns in his hands, or within reach, etc. Is it so important to them that bin Laden have a weapon to fight back? The men, women and children on 9/11 didn't have one. Well, unless you count the tea cart that the men used on Flight 93.

MarkO

It was totally Panetta. The reason the WH was unprepared to deal with the photo issue is that the WH did not plan, command or execute the operation. Look where Obama was sitting. He'd be a junior associate at a litigation planning meeting. No power in that chair or posture. Passivity. He was in the middle of a golf round when someone had to snag him so he wouldn't miss the entire operation. Can you imagine? Ike? FDR? Bush? Panetta smoked him.

The supposed "courage" of Obama in "authorizing" this mission vanished into the usual Obama cowardice in fearing the release of the pictures. That's right. No one will be angry that UBL was killed, only that there are pictures of him dead.

That sort of thinking qualified him to be President of the Harvard Law Review.

MarkO

LOL, jimmyk.

Narc,
correctamundo, you are, of course, again. Mine was even worse.

Thomas Collins

My favorite speculation is that Osama is being interrogated at this very moment, and his death is an Administration cover story. Insty reported that this theory has appeared on Facebook. I figure it is no more preposterous than anything I hear from the White House officials. My main problem with this theory is that it credits the White House with some degree of intelligence (keep changing the story so folks get confused and don't focus on the possibility that bin Laden was captured).

JM Hanes

jimmyk:

"doesn't the 25-minute video gap seem awfully, shall I say, convenient?"

Personally, I'd just call it fortuitous, and leave it at that.

maryrose:

"Thank God he isn't speaking publicly."

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think the fact that both Bush and Clinton declined to appear with him must seem like a pretty stunning rebuff.

Captain Hate

Again Odummy gets treated like a retarded child by everybody else in seeking to incredibly magnify his paltry contributions. I noticed this in the 2008 campaign when Lurch was on a FNS during the banking meltdown and pontificating in his usual gasbag fashion about how magnificent candidate Easybake had been in leading the bailout discussion. Kerry is such an obvious liar, and his financial acumen consists of finding dotty divorcees/widows with much higher net worth than IQ or self respect to woo with his pathetic lines of ego laden BS; so he obviously didn't know WTF he was talking about.

So the need to bolster Toonce's already prodigiously high self regard seems to be part of the donk DNA.

Thomas Collins

Aha! Perhaps Al-Qatani's "surrender" (see daddy's 12:03 AM post) was really a capture based on info from Osama.

Rick Ballard

Sue,

Why do you think that OBL would pick up a gun? I remember the video of him firing one and he didn't exactly impress me with his proficiency. The Arab "you'll never take me alive, copper" is belied by the number of top rats caught and caged to date.

Arab "leaders" are reasonably good at getting sub par detritus to blow themselves and others to bits but their fighting skills can be summed up in Dayan's reply regarding the reason for his astounding success. Afghans are a slightly different matter.

daddy

Sue

Rick,

I don't know. I guess he thought they wouldn't shoot him. Someone speculated, and I can't remember now where I saw it, that the SEALs were dressed as Paki military and he thought they would just arrest him.

Captain Hate

Why do you think that OBL would pick up a gun? I remember the video of him firing one and he didn't exactly impress me with his proficiency.

I said in another thread earlier this week: The Looming Tower made it obvious that OBL was a pathetic bumbler that the Afghanistan jihadis barely tolerated because he gave them so much money to offset his gaffes that almost got them killed. In the video you reference, if I'm thinking of the same one, it looked like "PeeWee's Big Adventure at the Firing Range". I'm almost positive I could've shattered his shoulder by giving him a 12 gauge and telling him to brace his shoulder against a tree to give some support against the recoil.

daddy

Anyone know if Obama decided to not release those OBL photo's yesterday or the day before?

Reason I ask is because 3 May is World Press Freedom Day, and what better way to celebrate World Press Freedom Day than by concealing information from the Free World's Press.

In other news, Prince Charles just gave a Save the world speech at Georgetown University to a standing Ovation. The headline says, "Prince's Food Sustainability Talk Resonates with Students". But the part I liked was the subhead just beneath that:

Students relate the Prince of Wales' talk on securing sustainable food production and farming to what they've learned in their fields of study.

Sue

OMG, Stephanie that picture is awesome. "Burp"

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I'm not sure if I'm confused or someone else is. I could have sworn that when I read the story yesterday about the live feed being dark for 20 min. or so, I linked over to an accompanying story showing a picture of Panetta sitting alone at CIA watching the feed. It was my impression that the problem was with the WH feed and Panetta saw the whole thing.

Maybe I misread the story or misconstrued it somehow, but it would explain some of the major discrepancies between Panetta and the WH.

JM Hanes

I think you meant ::burp::

JM Hanes

Sara:

I think it was Panetta who said the actual operational feed want dark for the 20-25 minutes. I suspect that the folks in the situation room were conferencing with Panetta, who was manning the mission at a separate location.

Sue

Yes, that's what I meant. I'm still hyped up over the Mavs kicking Laker's butt.

Gotta go to bed. Night y'all!

matt

sustainable food at Georgetown means making sure the pizzas and weed don't run out.

As to Cuban, I am not a Dallas fan but respect his love of the game and no BS commentary, even though he gets dinged regularly.

All I can say as a Lakers fan is that Kobe is getting what he deserves. After his disrespect of SSG Sal Giunta several weeks ago, screw him. Karma's a bitch, and the whole team are a bunch of slackers this year.

As to Bammers, don't you think it strange that he's on 60 Minutes, doing WTC, and who knows what else this week. He is simply the most self involved man in the world.

Frankly, looking at that photo of the group of them watching the mission go down disgusts me. It was like pay per view fight night. A shame for them the video link cut out for 25 minutes.Hillary probably got a hard on.

This kind of mission is planned and gamed over and over and over usually. The messages about it are seriously conflicted. Whether this is purposeful or not I don't know.

To lose 25 minutes in the middle of the feed seems odd. Their cameras feed directly to the satellites or JSTARS so it is conceivable that the mutts in the situation room could have seen it live. There seem to be a lot of discrepancies, not that I doubt we center punched the bastard.

Operation disinformation? High level bungling? You decide....

JM Hanes

Why would anybody in their right minds at the CIA want a video of the key 25 minutes in the record? With Eric Holder at the DoJ? The guy who hasn't even closed down the investigations of Bush interrogators yet? With a blame shifting President you can't trust as far as you can throw him? I don't think so.

MayBee

They were all about being in control and watching the whole operation until they couldn't get their story straight.
They were more than happy to pretend they'd watched the shoot-out and OBL defending himself. Until it turned out that didn't happen. Then they told us about the weird gap in the feed.

MayBee

Why would anybody in their right minds at the CIA want a video of the key 25 minutes in the record?

Great point. The CIA just spent all kinds of capital destroying tapes of their interactions with terrorists.

MayBee

Why Hello, Mr. Navy SEAL.

daddy

In many ways it is like a Saturday Night Live routine:

From the Voice of America News Network, May 4th, 2011: Obama Marks World Press Freedom Day:

"U.S. President Barack Obama says people must always stand up for the free flow of information around the world, noting that new media tools helped bring about revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt...He made the statement Tuesday to mark World Press Freedom Day."

"Mr. Obama singled out for criticism such nations as China, Iran, and Syria for recent crackdowns on the independent press....U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also released a statement..."

"The U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization says World Press Freedom Day serves as a reminder that in dozens of countries, media outlets and journalists are subjected to censorship and attacks."

In other news:

1) White House Locks Reporter in Closet

2) Obama Administration punishes reporter for using multimedia, then claims they didn't

3) Obama gets Angry with Texas reporter

4) White house demands deletion of a sentence describing Michelle Obama on an Air Force aircraft from a News Story

5) Barack Obama refuses to release OBL Trophy pictures.

Happy Press Freedom Day everyone:)

JM Hanes

What continues to amaze me, daddy, no matter how many times it happens, is how brazenly Obama says one thing and does the opposite. The press has begun to point out bits and pieces, but the story pretty much gets lost in the general, more sympathetic noise.

daddy

You bet JMH,

The truth needs repetition to stick, and the Press is doing their darndest to make sure that nothing that shows him in a negative light is ever repeated often enough to stick.

Janet

Well the girl porn is coming out so I'll go to bed

Hahahaha! I love pictures of the strong men in our military....sorta puts down the lie that guys in our military are down & outers. Poor young things that have no choice but to join the military because of our evil country.
Lefties are only describing the men in their camp.

Janet

I'm really surprised that Bill Clinton declined to appear with Toonces in NYC today; I wonder if he did that before or after finding out GWB declined or if it was based on Hillary telling him what a complete scam the narrative was. Either way it might be the first thing I've appreciated him doing since he exerted political pressure to get NAFTA passed.

One wonders how much Bill Daley was Obama's choice.

Hmmm, Panetta, Gates, and Clinton, probably none of them Obama's choices, against Jarrett and Obama, with Bill Daley facilitating the troika.
===========

Jane

So does the country feel like the narrative is a scam, or just the people who pay attention. It's hard to tell from here.

Chubby

Cap

I've been wondering if maybe it's a double whammy; first Hillary advises 0 not to release the pictures because she knows that is the option that will damage him most politically; then Bill snubs his event. Somehow I don't believe that the animosity of the primaries has been forgotten by the Clintons.

clarice

daddy, you are en fuego..The same thing also occurred to me about the DNA business.

Rick Ballard

CH,

The Archbishop of Canterbury is uncomfortable about the executions and the Paks refuse to back up Obama's narrative.

Ole Peabrain is just gonna have to celebrate the executions on his lonesome. It looks like his quick decision to utilize the Frank Doctrine got him out in front of himself.

The Archbishop of Canterbury makes me uncomfortable..he's crazy and has been for so long.

Ah, so Khaled, is discovering 'the value of not being seen' is over rated. So Rowan Atkinson, say nee, what else is new, except
it's yet another chapter of 'leading from
behind'

Danube of Thought

Good morning.

Rick Ballard

The President may want to distract the general population from noticing the success of his laser like focus on jobs. He can't have the Muddle worrying about unemployment as they decide that they can't really afford a fill up or hamburger this week.

PS - The Archbishop used to be on Team Obama - he has the moral authority of a brothel keeper (IMO). I noted his remarks only as a sign of his abandonment of our stunningly brilliant President.

Danube of Thought

A beauty from Lucianne:

"Obama Administration takes victory lap in clown car

"Nominated as Headline of the Week"

Captain Hate

Chubby, everything you say sounds likely.

Rick, Rowan does have his inadvertent uses other than marrying royalty and keeping my Sundays freed up. Regarding President Petey's big day in NYC, I assume that the 9/11 families he's meeting with include, or perhaps are made up entirely of, the "Jersey girls" about which I'll say nothing other than they're reliably lib and further validate GWB's absence.

Mark Folkestad

Narciso, are you sure that you don't mean Rowan Williams? Rowan Atkinson is the comedic actor who did Mr. Bean and the Black Adder series. Although, there is a rather pathetic humor surrounding the Archbishop of Canterbury these days.

Ranger

Well, I think it is now officially safe to say that the DC establishment is tired of the Clown Posse (via Hot Air Headlines):

White House goes silent on bin Laden raid

Here is the part that really shows the exasperation on the part of the establishment press:

The conundrum mirrored problems that the Obama administration has had communicating its national security approach in the past. From the immediate aftermath of an attempted airliner bombing on Dec. 25, 2009, to the early management of the H1N1 flu crisis, the White House has repeatedly labored to prove its command of inflammatory facts during fast-moving events.

What goes unmentioned here is that the exact same thing happened over and over again during the campaign, and the same press corps gave Obama a total pass over and over again.

narciso

I should have put that in quotes, Mark, yes I meant Williams, who right about now, seems to be a parody right out of Peter Cook, Rick, the
gang at 'Conquistador Coffee' has struck again, although they haven't burned down the plant, yet.

Well the girl porn is coming out so I'll go to bed

I left the thread too soon :( But what a great photo to wake up to!

And as for the photos of the "heroin ho," Clarice, per usual, nailed them - Medusa, indeed. ha ha ha ha

DebinNC

Jake Tapper has more details of the raid...including that the SEALS didn't bring a tape measure along, so one of them laid down next to OBL's dead body to check his height...and that the OBL contingent only fired one shot.

DebinNC

Oops, fog of Deb..my "only fired one shot" was wrong

"The Americans were also fired on by a man who was one of bin Laden's trusted couriers, officials said. The courier was killed by return fire from the SEALs, and they did not encounter any additional gunfire."

centralcal

I see from headlines beginning to appear that the MFM have gone into full bash Bush mode and are claiming he declined to join their Messiah because he and his team didn't get enough "credit" for the OBL kill - or some such propaganda.

Time to restate that I hate the MFM!

fdcol63

I like how the Pakis are describing the raid as "cold blooded" because no one in the compound offered resistance.

Boo-hoo! Cry me a frigging river.

Sue

C-cal,

I saw that and thought "so what"? It's the same thing we've been saying too. He didn't get enough credit.

centralcal

I know, Sue. But we believe it and they want to change the facts to inflate their little pinhead man with the big ears wearing a suit that is way too large for him (recalling the candid photo of The Won take from behind in the Situation Room).

Sue

I also note that Tapper is confirming, without sourcing, that the daughter saw bin Laden shot.

Jack is Back!

I listened to John McCaslin (sp?) this morning on the radio taking Frederick to school. Its called America's Morning News Show or something like that. He usually has Amy Holmes as his side kick but had some one named Molly this morning. Its a Washington Times production.

Anyhoo, he had an ex-SEAL Team 6 guy named Howard Wausdin who has written a book (LUN) about his time with them. He said what I have been thinking all along. They did the mission as it was planned. Killing OBL is what they had to do if OBL made any attempt to move since the room could have been booby-trapped or he could be wearing a vest or have a gun under his robes, etc.

Regarding the photos: he says give the skeptics the long and lat of where the body was deep sixed and let them dive down and ID him. Stop pussy-footing around the "sensibility" issue. Now this is the first guy I have heard that has absolute experience and know how the operations are run. Everyone else is guessing and from no experience. He was pretty convincing and a true warrior/patriot.
