For anti-government conservatives, it is also a powerful argument for scrapping President Obama's national rail plans, rescinding federal funding and canceling the project before any more money is wasted on it.
Didn't see any national rail service in Mad Max, did you? That's the kind of future anti-government conservatives want.

Trump is owed a debt of thanks any way you slice it for forcing Obama to play the BC card before he planned to and thereby taking the birther issue off the backs of the rest of the GOP field.
And since Trump was never really running anyway, the serious candidates didn't have to sacrifice anything for this to happen.

The Strauss Kahn affair could not have come at a worse time from an economic standpoint. The EU is in chaos on the Greek crisis with Portugal and Ireland still hovering in the background.
The economists and money market experts say haircut, and the politicians are still in denial, at least publicly.
With Kahn sitting in jail, the IMF is in a dither. Remember, this is the guy who wanted to be the world's economic crisis manager. This takes one major player off the table for the moment.
It was interesting catching up on some of the news on planes this weekend. Soro's former right hand man, Stanley Druckenmiller, was interviewed in the WSJ about the potential technical default if the debt ceiling is not raised, and felt that if our government were to be seen to be dealing with the long term structural issues, it would not have much effect on the markets.
Bill Gross of PIMCO is steering out of US debt looking for safer havens.
And all the while Geithner and the Dems and Obama and most of DC are still playing the same games as always.
I think if they do raise the ceiling without deep spending cuts the dollar is going to tank some more and the inflation rate will go back into overdrive.
Posted by: matt | May 16, 2011 at 02:13 PM
Good point, Porchlight, and it wouldn't surprise me if he played the "I shot Bin Laden" card before he planned to also.

Geithner has been saying if we don't raise the debt ceiling we will have a double dip recession, which tells me we are already in a double dip recession.
I bet the administration is mad that so much else is going on when they want to emphasize the debt ceiling being reached.

If you want to know what kind of creeps are running this government read Steg's 2:18 link. I've linked to the story previously but his link is much more comprehensive.
It's long, but the scandal it entails is a beaut. Were there any justice this would be the equivalent of that little break-in back in '72 flying under the radar for so long.
Of course in this case we have the MFM whoring after the perps rather than digging up the truth.
Let's hope the blogosphere can replace our 4th estate, which has devolved to a 5th column.
Posted by: Ignatz | May 16, 2011 at 02:43 PM
Thanks for the link, Steg; the MFM is doing it's best to keep a lid on that and if Issa or somebody else doesn't bring it to everybody's attention, we may as well take down the flag.
Posted by: Captain Hate | May 16, 2011 at 02:52 PM
Just to remind folks regarding Steg's link, Project Gunwalker was the Obama administrations bright idea to supplement Project Gunrunner.
Gunrunner was an attempt to identify and prevent 'strawman' gun sales to Mexican drug cartel frontmen.
Holder and co came up with the bright idea of not just interdicting but actually allowing strawman sales to go through [over the strenuous objection of the gun dealers involved]and the guns to go to Mexico, unimpeded, in a hopeless quest to track down the major players. The result is an unknown number of dead Mexicans and probably Americans and at least two USA Federal agents murdered by guns the ATF intentionally allowed to be sold to the cartels.
Now that ATF and DOJ whistle-blowers have sprung it open, the extent of the coverup is only now coming to light.
If Issa is smart Holder will be tarred and feathered and the whole mess will be a giant black eye for Barry.
