Mickey Kaus kicks around some of the potential plot twists on WeinerGate. The Ace of Savants favors keeping it simple:
Did any of Weiner's passionate defenders ever stop to just ask if Weiner was acting like any of the various human beings they have known, or perhaps had at least heard stories about?
Here's a little experiment if you don't believe me, or are unfamiliar with the emotion of justifiable rage. Go tell a friend that some teenagers just keyed the words "SAD LOSER" into his car.
You know what his reaction will not be?
"#Keyed! It happens!"
Yes, that will not be his reaction. But if you're unconvinced, try it.
Oh, and also be prepared for your friend to be extremely angry at you just for throwing that heart attack at him.
The Ace mentions the story of Hayley Williams, a young lady who went with the "#Hacked" excuse as a matter of convenience, until that unraveled.
To which I wil add: Brett Favre, Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame lock probably has even more man-cards than Anthony Weiner (arguably!). Yet a guy who could walk into any bar in Manhattan and walk out with an aspiring model got taken down for sexting a, well, aspiring model. No, I can't figure it either, but there is some very old guidance about which of the human organs are better at thinking, planning and evaluating consequences.
GREAT MOMENT IN SEXUAL EQUALITY: The hands-down funniest take on WeinerGate yet:
Media Behaving Inexcusably on Weiner Twitter Photo
Imagine this scenario: A youngish, recently married, female member of Congress learns that someone has sent a tweet to a fraternity house-follower of someone alleged to be her, allegedly from her own Twitter account. Her face is not in the grainy photo, but her breasts are, covered up by a lacy bra. It’s a provocative photo, one that is embarrassing to the congresswoman. She has no idea who would have done such a thing or why.
She gets the photo deleted, but when she comes back to work, she is surrounded by hounding reporters. Did she send the photo? Are those her breasts? If she really didn’t really send a sexy picture of herself to some college guys, why doesn’t she demand a police investigation? Is that reticence not proof of some guilt on her part?
There you go - if we don't think a forty-something woman would email suggestive photos to a college guy, we shoudln't think a forty-ish guy would email suggestive photos to a college girl. What kind of a deplorable sexist society do we live in, anyway?
Ms. Milligan provides further illustration of her unfamiliarity with the glorious scope ofr human history:
...it’s doubtful someone as savvy as Weiner would do something so supremely stupid, anyway.
Wait'll she hears about Spitzer, Schwarzenenegger, Edwards, or Clinton. Hmm - in keeping with the spirit of her column I will append some examples of famous, powerful women who humliated themselves with their unbridled lust for younger men as soon as I think of any.

For all of the negative things I've said about Rush, he has understood the appeal of Palin since Day 1. When you consider the size of his audience, I have to wonder if her polling numbers aren't being jacked around with.
Posted by: Captain Hate | June 02, 2011 at 01:50 PM
I think he regrets that he didn't back a candidate during the '08 primaries, and plans to avoid making the same mistake this time around. If I'm right, he has to be looking at the field and figuring it's likely to be her.
He also had some positive things to say about Perry a week or so ago, and not much for the rest of them, although he was polite enough to say he was impressed by Pawlenty during the recent debate.
Posted by: Extraneus | June 02, 2011 at 01:56 PM
Captain - in every on-line poll (conservative blogs, news sites, etc.) I have seen, she comes out on top. Some polls only let you vote once, others have no restrictions, yet she always beats every other candidate listed.

Sarah Palin. The woman is simply a nutter. A fringe dweller among the truly stupid people in this country.
From The Washington Times, '08: Evangelical faith drives Palin’s pro-Israel view.
ST. PAUL, Minn. | Sarah Palin displays an Israeli flag in her governor's office in Juneau, even though she has never been to the country, and attends Protestant evangelical churches that consider the preservation of the state of Israel a biblical imperative.
...
In June, Mrs. Palin told ministry students at her former church that in going to war with Iraq, the United States is "on a task that is from God," the Associated Press reported.
...
Mrs. Palin was baptized as a teenager at the Wasilla Assembly of God Church. She frequently attends the Juneau Christian Center, which is also part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God. Her home church is the Church of the Rock, an independent congregation.
"Historically, the Assemblies of God have been dispensationalists, which means they believe in 'the rapture' of Christians that takes them out of the world," said Mr. Matthews. "Central to that position is a very strong support for Israel. It's integral to their view of both prophecy and politics. Denying Israel is almost like denying the faith."
Posted by: anduril | June 02, 2011 at 02:05 PM

DKos on Weinergate has become nearly incomprehensible. Rather than resorting to commonsense arguments about the facts at hand, one Kossack, stranded wind, has gone deep into conspiracy mode and is ranting about "crimson hexagons," the Koch brothers, Breitbart, and the sins of CNN.
He has authored a series of "recommended diaries" on the subject. Commenters fall in line to spit on CNN and burn Breitbart in effigy.
Occasionally, a commenter will say, "Hey wait, this is kinda crazy and not helping our cause," only to be kicked to the curb or ignored.

I was thinking that perhaps someone sent that picture to him so technically, the picture belongs to him. And if he's not that well endowed as Jon Stewart suggested, he used that picture instead of one of his own to impress a young college student. Note the question Maddow asks him, is it "possible that this started out as a private photo of yours that ended up in the public domain accidentally or at least in a way that you didn’t intend?" She didn't ask him is it you? His answer, "Well, it could be or it could have been a photograph that was that’s taken out of context or manipulated or changed in some way." Could a photo of another guy be "taken out of context," "manipulated," or "changed?" Now I'm not suggesting he's bisexual, just that he may have used another guy's photo instead of his own? Just a thought.

I haven't read a thing but wanted to give you all a tornado update. First of all if you can get Worcester Cable on TV tonite at 6:00 Amy is interviewed, so you guys can meet her. She also should be in this paper by later tonite or tomorrow with pix of the damage.
Here is a little view into the town I live. At 6:45 AM I called a local contractor who I've known for several years. He returned the call at 6:50. I asked if he could meet me at Amy's house sometime to see if it was safe to go in. He said he was on his way and we were both there before 7:00 AM.
I left for a while to so something, I forget what, and when I returned at 9:00 AM the 1 mile trip from my house to hers took 1 hour, because so many roads are blocked off. From what I can tell, her area got it the worst. She lives next door to my first house in Sturbridge, where the entire yard has been covered with trees and it also has windows blown out.
By the time I arrived back at 9:00 her brother was there from Albany, and had hired a guy to get the trees out of the driveway. I started washing walls which were covered with mud and debris, and sweeping floors and stuff.
Shortly thereafter the food started arriving. 10 Pizzas from someone, sandwiches from someone else. Before long her other brother arrived with more food, drinks etc and a small generator.
The roofer was called and replied "consider it done." At one point I looked out in the yard and there were about 15 buff guys in the front yard working their butts off. I kept thinking, these guys must have done something right in another life, because this is truly amazing. The windows have been boarded and when I left they were putting a tarp on the roof.
There is a steady stream of cars driving by taking pix. It's the only route open to the next town so the delay is huge.
Amy's kids are with friends down the street and her mom arrives from FL in a few hours. They are planning to stay in the house tonight.
The back yard is still a mess - it's probably close to an acre and there are trees everywhere and everything else is in the pool, but you can now get all the way to the garage.
I would never ever ever had believed that so much could be accomplished in one day.
And thank everyone for all their prayers and good wishes, I think they are coming through loud and clear.

OT Alaska Oil Stuff:
In one of the lousiest, most uninformative news stories ever written, the ADN Reports Oil pipeline value increases by more than half-billion dollars.
"The value of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline has increased."
"A state panel now values the pipeline at $8.6 billion -- up from $7.9 billion."
"The value of the pipeline is important because it determines taxable revenue based on the portion of the pipeline that passes through the borough. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the higher assessment could mean $55 million for the borough."
Thats the entire story.
Whats missing? How about who the heck owns the Trans Alaska Pipeline and therefore who the heck has to pay the extra taxes. That info is not in the story.
Obviously that is not an important consideration to the ADN. What's important to the ADN is simply that there's new free money coming in to Alaska
Well here's who owns the Pipeline and therefore here's who's going to have to pay any new taxes as a result of the Pipelines value increasing by half a Billion dollars:
"The pipeline system carries North Slope crude oil from Prudhoe Bay south to the Valdez tanker port. It belongs to five companies: BP, Exxon Mobil, Conoco Phillips, Chevron and Koch Industries.
"BP is the largest owner at 46.9 percent."
I hate the ADN. Good morning.

Interesting factoid:
IE 8 is Windows 7’s number one Web browser with a healthy, but declining 42.51%, Chrome 11, with 14.82%, and Firefox 4 with 14.05% are both ahead of IE 9. If you lump in Firefox 3.6’s numbers, 8.52%, with Firefox 4’s share, Firefox has almost twice as much market share on Windows 7 as does IE 9.

I figure he and the boys were sitting around watching hockey and doing pubescent boyish things like consuming mass quantities of alcohol and playing truth or dare and those magic words were spoken: ‘Hold my beer and watch this!’ Snap! (or snip in this case)
Someone at the party attempts to send it to one of the participants (or even his wife) as a joke and accidentally mistweets. Autofill is not your friend even in a twitter stream.
The current meme that he is spraying about is that he was tweeting about hockey. ‘that’s not entirely accurate’ as the weiner in Independence Day would say. He had a three hour dead zone on his twitfeed from first hockey tweet and the infamous #545 tweet until he sent the pic and then quickly sent the ‘my tivo ate my hockey game’ tweet and several more in rapid succession suggesting the hacking story and the die was cast.
The truth is that he was acting like a college fratrat and knows how poorly that will play in the public. Tis why the hockey story was easy cover – misdirection and partially the truth.
So yes, it is his crotch shot and no he didn’t send it. Case solved.

Nice retort. Even smart, principled people do stupid things. Richard Nixon was, by most estimates, the intellectually most capable of our presidents, yet he famously did some very stupid things. Probably some of the MOST stupid things a president has ever done, such as, implementing the Great Society. For starters. His leading principle? Being president?
Still, if I have a choice, I'm gonna pick the smart guy with principles over the deluded, not so smart ideologue every time. That means Christie over Palin. That leaves Romney out in the cold, too: smart guy, no discernible principles. I can live with some mistakes, and Christie's have been few and minor so far.
Prediction: Palin will never get the nomination.
Comment: The further she follows that path the more she'll be exposed. She should keep taking the money and run...back to that other state that starts with an "A". The first one was too damn cold.

As I recall, Favre handled his "situation" fairly well (sorry). If he ever denied it, he didn't deny it long (sorry, again). It has to be galling to AW as well as his constituents that a guy who has been taking head hits for more than twenty years was more professional than one of the nation's rising stars (sorry, sorry, sorry (it's just too hard (sorry) to avoid some phraseology)).

Soylent, Clarice, Janet,
Left a reply at other thread, as wit:
Soylent,
Rakkasans always invited at my table. An honor, sir.
How bout it ladies? We could add all the DC contongent and others ready to travel down. Like one of Ace's Moron meet ups. Too bad Duke Ziebert's isn't around anymore.
I leave it to the others.

We can certainly do that and I'll even offer to do it here if the date fits with my schedule, JiB. When do you think you'll be here?

Personally I think its time to call in the big guns: The Fort Marcy Park Police.

Strawman,
Nice Ockham comment at your link.
Here's a link to the Weiner recipients angry mother.

The fool means "pabulum."

Skinner, as I recall was the token Democratic opposition to Obama in the 2004 Senate race,
she basically threatened no one, and you see why there.

Wait she may not be as foolish as I first surmised,

C-cal,
I saw that live and told my husband she was drunk. Glad someone else noticed it.

Anduril is an ass. I'm using "an" in front of ass because, of course, that's what you're supposed to do. And I'm calling him an ass because perhaps if enough people did the same he might ponder a personality change.

a sunny early morning in Tokyo. Interesting. Everyone seems to be wearing "United We Stand" stickers and the posters are everywhere. There is a unity here that I have not seen for a long time. We could learn from our Japanese friends.
Attendance at a huge show down 30% because most other Asians flaked out, but the Japanese are very grateful their friends are here. Most Westerners gave up years ago.
Off to Beijing next behind the Great Firewall of China.
Glad to hear everyone's okay, Jane!
I am totally jazzed that a friend of mine threw out the first pitch at the Memorial Day Mets game from 8,000 miles away in A'stan. With Dodgers about as disgraceful as they can get, I think I may have to go with my Mets friends.

Thanks, daddy. After reading your earlier comment, I was concerned the my insufficiently antiquated spelling may have doomed me to Palinopia vs.a vs. the incognoscente. But wikipedia bails me out.
Mom's name suggests an interesting heritage. Married an Okinawa based Marine?

Clarice,
We are there 13th and 14th of June. Monday afternoon and all day Tuesday. Let me know. It had now taken 2 1/2 hours to get on northside of Jax. Saw a P3 taking off at NAS Jax since train parallels Roosevelt Blvd. Diinner was okay, a drier version of Tournedos then I use to get at La Maispn but sufficed.
