Anthony Weiner is having a press conference at which he admits he lied and sent the lewd pic to the college coed. He will not resign, but manfully accepts the consequences as long as there aren't any.
Mr. Weiner did not specificaly refer people to this post by the Ace in explaining his conduct but he outlined precisely the same scenario of the inadvertent public message followed by panic and a hastily marshalled cover-up.
ANY MINUTE NOW: Weiner's handlers need to end this;the longer he stays up there taking questions the greater the odds that he will switch to combative, defensive rationalizations.
--Weiner's handlers need to end this--
Consider rephrasing, please.

Remember, he can't state with certitude that all of the people he sent pics to were adults.
Posted by: Rob Crawford | June 06, 2011 at 05:04 PM
Very clear that he was content to lie until the evidence against him made it no longer possible to do so.

So what's the deal? No sex with any of his online babes. Sex with his wife is good, though? It was all just the simple result of pride in one's manhood?
Btw, I have no problem with public humiliations. I just want to stipulate that.
Posted by: Extraneus | June 06, 2011 at 05:11 PM
Glen Beck has a medical analogy he applies to Weiner.
He says that if Weiner doesn't leave office now he will never leave office, and that we are looking at the next Charlie Rangell.
Beck's got his ire up because he says that last year Weiner held hearings where he accused Glen Beck of being unethical.
He analogizes Weiner to a virus. Says the Doctor always say's take all the anti-biotics, otherwise the virus isn't killed and actually get's stronger and then you can never get rid of it. That's what he's saying is the case with Weiner. If we don't get rid of him now he will get stronger and be stuck in office from here on out like an empowered virus. Interesting analogy.

Posted by: Porchlight | June 06, 2011 at 05:15 PM
What I have never understood about thes guys is why they think they can cover it up when it has never worked. Even Frank, Studds and Clinton remained in office but the truth came out. Ask John Edwards. Yet the Ted Mack Hour we have for media, knowing the history of scandal and cover up act like its nothing. No instincts just complicity.
Posted by: JackisBack! | June 06, 2011 at 05:20 PM
Over at the NRO Corner, they are posting the video of Bill Clinton's owning up to the Monica Lewinski affair after his grand jury testimony for comparison. For a trifecta, I think they should also find Teddy Kennedy's post-Chappaquiddick television address where he wondered whether some awful curse hung over the entire Kennedy family. Then we could compare all three.
Posted by: peter | June 06, 2011 at 05:21 PM
He only lied to honorably protect his "family," so no need to resign.
Btw, isn't there a House rule about bringing dishonor to the House? I know he stated that he didn't think he violated any rules, so maybe there is no such rule.

That's a nice phrase. Did he cite any D-Day imagery - just as our boys were not turned back from the beaches at Normandy, so I will not promise to stop sending photos of my penis to little girls, that sort of thing?

Daddy, for MSM, I think they were tough enough on Weiner, especially following up on the Breibart apology. I think they were nastier to Breibart in that their tone suggested they were offended that Breitbart could be considered a journalist.
My gut instinct is that although some of MSM will close ranks behind Weiner, many won't, because they know Breitbart will embarrass them if they try to put a fig leaf over Weiner's behavior.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | June 06, 2011 at 05:28 PM
it has never worked
We can't know that. We know only a bunch of times the cover-up hasn't worked, and as you say, several of those have left the miscreant in office and therefore rich and powerful.

I didn't hear enough of Beitbart's questioning "to state with certitude" that Breitbart got more hostile questions, but my initial impression is that he did.
Possibly, but only because he got up there first. Even the MSM, if given a chance to question Breitbart *after* Weiner apologized to him and admitted guilt, would probably have softened up.
I still think the left is going to characterize this as some kind of witch hunt, but no one is going to listen to them.

Weiner gags, but gives Breitbart an apology.
Weiner admits that there might be more pictures out there. There sure as heck are more women out there, and not all of them are adults.
I figure Breitbart has some glorious 8 x 10 photos of Weiner in carnal congress with a goat--or something like that--and Little Tony knows it. Better get that "I admit I lied and apologize" out there before Breitbart does him any more damage. Of course Breitbart couldn't have done Little Tony any damage without Weiner being dumber than a box of rocks in the first place.

Weiner reminds me of a kid I went to h.s. with, who was always managing to be on the inside by being the gopher, the water boy, the organizer for things no one else wanted to do. Someone who helps out the jocks and stands in when needed for the popular girls. A big mouth that actual school leaders used and allowed to hang around for whatever usefulness he served at the time. The kid in h.s. was creepy and everything with him was some kind of innuendo or double entendre. Nothing so explicit you could take offense, but constant and ... creepy. He would brag how he spent the night before with the head cheerleader, neglecting to include he was at her house doing her homework, while she was in the other room making out with her boyfriend, the captain of the football team. I'm sure you all went to school with someone like that.

Ext- I wouldn't be surprised if he met other women in person. Not necessarily these women.
Weiner sounds like an exhibitionist, so getting women to ogle him (and listen to his sex exploits) seems to be satisfying to him in it's own right.
He was always trolling for attention. He found this Megan Broussard when she said he was hot on Facebook. He had people on Twitter ask to be followed, then scanned for the hot girls. He noticed when women on Twitter said he was hot, or they had a crush on him.
It was all about him, I think.
