RCP tells us that Sarah Palin is off the bus and back in Alaska:
Less than a month after she appeared poised to shake up the Republican presidential campaign, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has once again receded from the 2012 limelight.
...
Though Palin and her staff never announced a timeline for the remaining legs of her trip, aides had drafted preliminary itineraries that would have taken her through the Midwest and Southeast at some point this month. But those travel blueprints are now in limbo, RCP has learned, as Palin and her family have reverted to the friendly confines of summertime Alaska, where the skies are currently alight for over 19 hours a day and the Bristol Bay salmon fishing season is nearing its peak.
As Palin enjoys her sojourn to the 49th state, she has not reconnected with key early-state figures like Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and she may have jeopardized whatever political momentum she gained from her recent reemergence in the 2012 discussion. Her political action committee's website still greets visitors with a stale banner, announcing the nationwide bus tour beginning "[t]his Sunday, May 29th."
I have no idea what it means, but its great that our national media have managed to soldier on in her absence.
she has not reconnected with key early-state figures like Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley
That will be possible soon; I understand by midsummer the larger cities in Alaska will be getting the telegraph wire.

Why wouldn't Sarah Palin be in Alaska, now? It's a beautiful place. And, you're not freezing your butt off. Even better Joe McGinniss is not living next door.
The bus? She doesn't live on the bus! But you'll see. She picked the "ONE NATION" tour. And, by 2012 ... she'll ride this to our INDEPENDENTS.

Can one "sojourn to" one's own home?
Would Palin have to be on the bus from now until Iowa, without stopping, in order for this writer to believe she is a potential candidate?
Are any other potential candidates being held to this standard?

Ten GOP sens. vow no debt-ceiling hike without balanced-budget amendment
By Alexander Bolton - 06/22/11 12:40 PM ET
Ten Republican senators have pledged their opposition to increasing the national debt limit unless Congresses passes a constitutional amendment to balance the budget.
It’s a high hurdle because two-thirds of both chambers must approve constitutional amendments. The pledge will split the Senate Republican conference and put pressure on other lawmakers to oppose legislation to increase national borrowing authority.
The 10 GOP senators have signed a document similar to the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which anti-tax activists have used to block tax increase.
The document states the signatories will oppose the debt increase unless three conditions are met: substantial cuts in spending that will reduce the deficit, the implementation of enforceable spending caps and passage of a balanced budget amendment.
The pledge specifies that the amendment must include spending limits and a supermajority requirement for raising taxes.
The signatories include Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Mike Lee (Utah), Marco Rubio (Fla.), James Inhofe (Okla.), Jerry Moran (Kan.), Pat Toomey (Pa.), David Vitter (La.), and Orrin Hatch (Utah), ranking Republican on the Finance Committee.
Vitter needs more hooker cash.

Bernanke rejects GOP line, but still won’t act
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke held a press conference this afternoon, and early on, made clear he has no use for the economic agenda espoused by his fellow Republicans.
“I don’t think that sharp, immediate cuts in the deficit would create more jobs,” Bernanke said, directly contradicting the guiding principle of GOP economic policy. He added that “fiscal tightening” from Congress would “probably” make unemployment worse, and “sudden and sharp fiscal consolidation” — what Republicans are demanding — would be “a negative for growth.”
Of course, GOP lawmakers will ignore all of this, perhaps because they want the economy to get worse.
In any case, Bernanke added that the problems holding the economy back may persist into 2012, and around the same time, the Fed revised its projections in a discouraging direction.
The Federal Reserve on Wednesday cut its forecasts for U.S. economic growth, but offered no hint of further monetary support, saying growth should pick up soon.
In quarterly projections released at the end of a two-day policy meeting, the central bank said the U.S. economy should grow 2.7 to 2.9 percent this year, a forecast that was marked down from a 3.1 to 3.3 percent projection released in April.
It said it sees 2012 growth in a 3.3 to 3.7 percent range. In April, it had said the economy would likely expand a somewhat more brisk 3.5 to 4.2 percent next year.

In 4th quarter 1981 and 1st quarter 1982--Reagan's fourth and fifth quarters--GDP growth was -5.7% and -5.6%. No two quarters of the Bush presidency saw growth rates that low.
In 2nd quarter 1983--the 10th of Reagan's presidency--GDP growth was 10.9%.

Clearly, Obama's policies were political objectives, never intended to produce GDP growth. They can't honestly believe in Keynesianism any more than we do; it's just cover for what they want to accomplish. Obama and the Dems bet on the economy coming back naturally, despite their destructive policies, and we all lost.

Yes, there are guardians within the Christian Congregation. But as Paul's many letters to the early christians revealed these (Episkopos) are men trained in the model of Christ to be 'innocent as doves, yet cautious as serpents' They shepherd the flock and protect it from the spiritual wolves who would prey on the innocent.
But mostly, spiritual growth is inner directed, though outwardly facilitated by congregating with others of like faith. Proper control is an internal surrender to the guidance founded on scripture, not a deference of personal judgment to the whims or fancy of another.
But that does not even begin to address how one's faith should be defended at law so that all be required to conform. Many will argue the case for that as well. I will not.

Reagan's credit card budget started in 1980, during the Carter presidency.
The national debt over time:
1980 $900B
1990 $3200B
2000 $5600B
2006 $8500B
2008 $10000B
2010 $13500B
Reagan (and the first two years of HW Bush, and a Democratic Congress) account for $2.3T. Clinton (and the last two years of HW Bush, with Democrat then Republican Congresses) account for $2.4T. Bush and Republican Congress, $2.5T in 6 years. Bush and Democratic Congress, $1.5T in 2 years.
Spending under Obama has so far resulted in two fiscal years in which the deficits were $1,000,000,000,000 higher than ever before.

I can remember back to 1976. Gerry Ford, picked by Nixon, pushed through Nixon's pardon. As the price to be paid to become president. He was supposed to just "hold the space." But got cocky.
The insiders laughed at Reagan. And, judged him to be too old to run in 1980. So, in 1976, the stupid party picked the stupid horse. And, a peanut farmer sailed to presidential victory.
Just like the way the insiders laughed at Andrew Jackson. Who wasn't defeated by his age, either.
Sarah Palin's really got a pack of jackals after her; specifically because she ain't properly credentialed.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Sarah Palin, like most top performers, knows that you walk off stage while the crowd's still panting. Then you relax.
This whole circus will roll around, again. No need to keep smelling elephant shit to stay on board.
Meanwhile, obama's not improving with time on the job. He's gonna have to order up laugh machines just so ya think people are paying attention when he nods towards one teleprompter. Or the other.
And, if all you have in your corner is the NY Times, I'm gonna guess that you're a puppy being toilet trained. Nobody subscribes to that dreck anymore. (Except puppies who can't get to the park in time.)

Posted by: Ignatz | June 22, 2011 at 06:17 PM
A note on Winnie Mandela from the always-reliable, never-biased Wikipedia:
Mandela's reputation was damaged by what many considered her sometimes bloodthirsty rhetoric, the most noteworthy example of this being a speech she gave in Munsieville on 13 April 1986, where she endorsed the practice of necklacing (burning people alive using tyres and petrol)
Count me among the many who consider an endorsement of the practice of burning people alive to be bloodthirsty.

With as much juice as she has, I don't see how she could be angling for a cabinet post. She'd be a major force in the campaign for the nomination, much more than your average cabinet hopeful. Perry could easily correct McCain's error and go front and center that she'd have purview over Energy and EPA as VP. But I do see how they could keep everyone guessing until the last minute.
