As best we can glean, Obama's current Job Plan is to offer a seemingly reasonable stimulus bill that has no chance of passage, and then run against a Do-Nothing Congress. The goal is to save one job, his own.
However, a new Bloomberg poll indicates that the Great Unwashed are not on board with Obama's Krugonomics:
A majority of Americans don’t believe President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan will help lower the unemployment rate, skepticism he must overcome as he presses Congress for action and positions himself for re- election.
...
By a margin of 51 percent to 40 percent, Americans doubt the package of tax cuts and spending proposals intended to jumpstart job creation that Obama submitted to Congress this week will bring down the 9.1 percent jobless rate. That sentiment undermines one of the core arguments the president is making on the job act’s behalf in a nationwide campaign to build public support.
Compounding Obama’s challenge is that 56 percent of independents, whom the president won in 2008 and will need to win in 2012, are skeptical it will work.
I am not a politcal genius like David Axelrod but if the public doesn't like the bill then failure to pass it may not hurt Republicans. Sometimes doing nothing is a real cool hand.
On another front, Dems are fretting that Obama has put Medicare and Social Security reform on the table, thereby reducing their opportunity to depict themselves as the last barrier between Granny and savage Republican entitlement cuts.
I am not a politcal genius like David Axelrod but if the public doesn't like the bill then failure to pass it may not hurt Republicans.

I think BO, like so many of his supporters throughout the public sector, became overt with their agenda because they thought they now had all the power they needed to fully implement the stealth socialist agenda Kurtz outlined.
IT has not gone as planned and now so many have become aware of both their methods and the actual intent. The irony is that if McCain had won much domestic policy would have been similar and we would have never recognized our lost autonomy or the extent of the government authorized looting to itself and its favorites.
Jane-You would be fascinated with how often I will read something, especially decades old aspirations, and write in the margin "No wonder the Tea Party makes them so crazed".

And what Obama offers in "stimulus" he takes back in regulation (via Instapundit):
Obama’s EPA not a ‘rogue’ agency at all
Everything is going according to plan for them. Now, if they could just get the voters to realize how briliant it all is.

If McCain hadn't lost there might not be a Tea Party and God knows where the Repubs would be lurching. The economy would be somewhat better and the deficit wouldn't be nearly as large (although the MFM would be wailing about it continually) but the trends would be terrible.

After reading the Bloomberg article, it is apparent that if Obama is relying on a dynamic of a "revenge" vote against Republicans for blocking his jobs bill, it is not going to work. The people who are out of work are well beyond gotcha politics and even though they blame Republicans for obstructing Obama's bill, they are not going to vote for Obama. Why should they, if he can't break the impasse? People who voted for Obama and who are now jobless and hurting economically are practical enough to know on which side their bread will be buttered.
Posted by: Chubby | September 14, 2011 at 11:38 AM
Gosh, didn't we have, last fall, an election that pretty much would have told any sentient creature occupying the White House that the public was not on board with his cool plans? The JEF's response is just to keep doubling down and speechifying.

Heaven forbid he get a chance to hone his chops any better.
I'm not sure if he'd have been able to do that (because one thing his term in office has proven is what an incredibly lazy load he is) but the MFM would've acted like he had. There would've been an all out push to make him appear like the greatest person ever with no discouraging words permitted. Plus McCain would be a terrible President; by trying to pander to his "friends" on the other side of the aisle and trying to get back in the good graces of the MFM, he'd be making all of us miserable.

Toss in the stunning intelligence of the DSCC chair, Patty Murray, along with the President's decision to run against a do nothing Congress and the possibility of getting the 15 Senate seats necessary to obviate the filibuster becomes very real.
I'm crossing my fingers that Cornryn has taken the lessons of '10 to heart and will address Tea Party sensibilities in finding correct candidates.

My biggest fear -At the convention the party drafts a new candidate out of desperation and repubs have only 2 months to run against them. Even in the Blue Bay State, there is resentment about the proposals to reduce the value of itemized deductions for those making over $200,000. People who in 2008 were fully on board with Obama's proposals are complaining that what Obama calls rich is not really rich in the "millionaires and billionaires" sense. I have to stifle snarky comments about the upper income professional class folks who voted for Obama and showed contempt for my arguments in 2008 getting what they deserve. I figure that if they are moving away from Obama infatuation on their own, why insult them and make them feel defensive.

"In the Washington Post, the American Prospect’s Adam Serwer says President Obama’s immigration plan “is not amnesty.”

Phlosophically, this is actually a good rather than a bad idea. Essentially, allowing folks to itemize their state and local taxes provides a tax subsidy to people who live in high tax districts, which subsidy is paid for those of us who are less taxed. So, if you live in New York City, you pay outrageous state and local taxes, but the Fed reimburses you somewhat for that. (and those of us who live in Georgia thereby get to pay a portion of your hight taxes). If those taxes were less deductible, you might see the limo liberals of NYC suddenly reconsider high taxes, and put pressure on the powers that be in the local jurisdictions to lower them.

"I really want to know how tied into Solyndra Schwarzenegger was. I think he was at the groundbreaking ceremony."
Indeed, he was. A couple of other questions occurred to me in reading the WaPo's latest on Solyndra with regard to "the time pressure we are under to sign-off on Solyndra,” (aside from the obvious implication that the White House was only interested in the OMB's stamp of approval, not it's assessment). The White House admits they "had 'quite an active interest' in the timing of OMB's decision," but surely the date of a picayune groundbreaking was more than a little fungible. The all-important Joe Biden didn't even show up in person -- he appeared c/o Jumbotron!
{Photo from Gigaon, linked above}
Can any of our search string senseis tell me what sort of jujitsu I need to do to find out what else was happening around then (Sept. 4, 2009) which might shed some light on the real calculus wrt nailing down Solyndra?
One of the OMB emails to Biden's office also says: “We have ended up with a situation of having to do rushed approvals on a couple of occasions (and we are worried about Solyndra at the end of the week).” Did anyone else wonder what those other occasioins might have been?

"Rush is reporting Louie Gohmert to AttackWatch.com for introducing an "American Jobs Act" into the House before Obama's bill has been submitted."
ROTFLMAO! I picked a great day to check back in on reality.

I hope ABC will follow the half billion loans to the various small "green" car companies (Tesla, Fisker, etc) as closely as they've followed Solyndra.
There has to be money laundering involved.

I doubt that the elimination of the state tax deduction would have enough impact to induce people to move. But I still think it should be eliminated--as should most others (along with all credits and most if not all exclusions and exemptions).
The effect of almost all of them (not including the state tax deduction) is to distort efficient markets for the benefit of favored behaviors and favored constituencies. All of them are trumpeted in the name of job creation or compassion or whatever at the time of enactment; only later are they called "loopholes."

Anyone understand how the Solyndra CEO ever actually received "millions" from his options, since the IPO never happened?

Democrats don't have the votes to pass Obama's bill in the Senate.
Boehner should just be patient until Democrats can figure out what they will do.
Oh...that'r right....
It's an emergency....ACT NOW and this pile of nonsense can be yours.

It’s among the most conservative districts in New York City
Probably the most conservative place in New York City and Marin County put together.
We rate the statement True
For the first time in my adult life, I'm proud that a joke I made showed up on a billboard in New Hampshire and got fact checked by a national organization of leftist hacks.
