Oh, this is just low:
I am sure that somewhere there is a picture of young Barack doing Something Serious, like protesting apartheid. And anyway, he looks great in a suit today, so who cares?

That says it all. Well except for the fact that Perry created more jobs in Texas than Obama did in all other 56 states combines.
Posted by: Jane | September 02, 2011 at 09:50 AM
Unexpectedly, the latest jobs report is that there were no new jobs created in August, and unexpectedly, the figures for July and June had to be unexpectedly downwardly revised. Unexpectedly.

Jay Cost, always careful in his predictions:
"Here's the bottom line: If the current trend continues, this election is not even going to be a close call. If it were held today, the president would lose by maybe 7 or 8 points.
"The economy stinks. The deficit is out of control. The country hates the president's top domestic achievement. It's darkness in America.
"I know a handful of diehard Obamaphiles think the president can talk his way out of anything, but they're wrong. He can't talk his way out of this one. Period. If things don't turn around in the economy toot sweet, he'll be a one-termer."

Here is another good one -
"Sohale Siddiqi (also Hal Siddiqi) was the best friend and roommate of Barack Obama while he attended Columbia University in the early 1980s. He is identified as “Sadik” in Obama’s memoir, Dreams From My Father. Obama describes Saddiqi as “a short, well-built Pakistani” who smoked marijuana and snorted cocaine. Siddiqi was from Karachi, Pakistan and came to America from London on a tourist visa. He overstayed his visa becoming an illegal alien."
It's all good. No questions to be asked here...move along.

I wonder what metamorphis took place to transform the unserious 22 yo Obama into a person serious enough to be president of the U.S.A.
My guess is none.

My guess is none.
Hahahahaha...
and if the rumors are true...he's gone from wearing boots to flip-flops. Not a good sign.

Still has the boots. They're for the necks of corporations.

Chris Matthews warns Perry that he better be clean as a whistle...and he was serious, even with Obama's background.

Obama has a ring on his left hand, she doesn't. What's up with that?
Posted by: Sue | September 02, 2011 at 10:22 AM
PaulL,
The Jay Cost post is very good. I would add that Obama's appointment of Krueger is an illustration of why I consider the President to be intellectually challenged. The appointment of yet another Ivy League credentialed moron at this point indicates that the President is incapable of learning from experience.
I would also note that FDR, who suffered from the same problem, had a better propaganda team to go along with the super majorities he enjoyed in the House and Senate. He was able to continue to fling crap at the wall in the vain hope that some would stick while the MFM cheered him on.
President Obama's situation in 2011 is much closer to Hoover's in '31 than to Roosevelt's in '35 or Reagan's in '83. There isn't going to be any quick turn around in the economy.
Posted by: Rick Ballard | September 02, 2011 at 10:22 AM
Rick,
I think everything this president does is payback of some sort. Either pay back to reward someone or payback to punish them. I think that is all he knows.

Exellent point Rick. If Obama were capable of learning, he would have found a well respected former CEO from a company that grew dramaticly under their leadership. Going back to the credentialed moronotocracy indicates a lack of respect for the private sector and a shallowness of thought... dare we say an incurious mind.

If things don't turn around in the economy toot sweet, he'll be a one-termer."
But Allan Lichtman says Obama's going to win and his 13 Keys have never been wrong!
I suspect Lichtman will rescore his keys sometime next year and "unexpectedly" change his forecast.

The Chicago Way. How can he know anything else? It's not like he ever had to work at learning the ropes; he's had fixers in place his entire life. He's a figurehead who is there to read speeches and pose for photo-ops. That's it.
Posted by: Porchlight | September 02, 2011 at 10:47 AM
If Obama's one-track economic record demonstrates anything, it's a perfectly flat learning curve.
Posted by: Cecil Turner | September 02, 2011 at 10:50 AM
Reagan's political fortunes turned around because his policies turned the economy around (or at minimum, did not stifle natural recovery).
Obama's policies are having the reverse effect, for good reason - they suck. He'd have to do a 180 to fix them and as others have pointed out, that is something he does not have the desire or capacity to do.
Posted by: Porchlight | September 02, 2011 at 10:56 AM
I hate to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it's simple incompetence, but wouldn't a cunning guy be able to stifle his evil intent in order to win re-election?
Posted by: Extraneus | September 02, 2011 at 11:02 AM
Ext,
He has the evil intent, but isn't competent enough to stifle it. Does that work?
Posted by: Porchlight | September 02, 2011 at 11:09 AM
A bumbling demon. Yeah, I guess that covers it.

Like Threadkiller posted of the "How was this helpful..." thread-
From Govtrack:
Barack Obama missed 314 (24%) of 1,300 roll call votes since Jan 6, 2005.
What a guy.

Rick:
President Obama's situation in 2011 is much closer to Hoover's in '31 than to Roosevelt's in '35 or Reagan's in '83.
I've been following the Reagan-Obama Gallup comparison for a while.
It was in late June (1983 and 2011,respectively) that Obama first passed under Reagan in the Gallup polling. Obama then made a spirited comeback and was even or ahead of Reagan for parts of July.
But then came late July,at which point it would appear that Obama has permanently surcame (h/t Cornel West) to Reagan, who by Novemember was back over 50%.
I know DoT has posted the numbers in the past, and I am sure you practically know them by heart, but I always enjoy a side-by-side comparison of GDP growth in each president's corresponding quarters in office...

Re Janet's picture of the lovely young couple...he appears much taller than her. Was he standing on a box perhaps?
Sue, as to the ring on his finger...I recall another photo from that Occidental "photo shoot" with the goofy hat, that you could see a ring on his left hand even then.

It's one of these 2 scenarios:
1) Incompetence Scenario
Obama (to himself): "Wow! My economic policies aren't working like Krugman and all my Leftist professors said they would."
2) Malevolent Intent Scenario
Obama (to himself): "Yeah! My economic policies are working exactly like Krugman and all my Leftist professors said they would."
Posted by: fdcol63 | September 02, 2011 at 11:49 AM
Jay Cost has it correct as is Rick Ballard.Because Obama is incapable of changing his message and adapting his views he will be a one term president. This arrogance and inflexibility will be his undoing. Gaddafi is in the wind and never resigned so Obama got that wrong as well as little bang for his buck. He won't get funding for Libya through this congress because he never consulted them before going into the country. His practice of doing end-runs around the congress because as Carney says"he can do it" is going to come back and bite him and his fellow dems up for re-election in a big way.
Posted by: maryrose | September 02, 2011 at 11:50 AM
Whoa there. You're telling me this guy's name is not really Rick Perry? He's a fraud like "Joe" the Plumber, using a shortened version of his middle name? Scandal!
Posted by: Dave | September 02, 2011 at 12:06 PM
Rick Ballard and Cecil Turner are spot on. BarryO put himself in this spot because he did virtually everything wrong as far as the economy is concerned January 2009-to date. Except for continuing the Bush tax rates, he has screwed the pooch completely. So what's next? he'll suspend some more regulations, he'll blame congress, blah blah blah, but no real changes-- as Cecil says, he has a flat learning curve. Next summer when Axelrod tells him it's over, we'll all watch the spectacle of Obama calling his country and its citizens racists. What a disgusting little man.

Hit,
The numbers come from Table 1.1.1.
The side by side looks like this:
Q1'83 5.1 Q1'11 0.4
Q2'83 9.3 Q2'11 1.0
Q3'83 8.1 Q3'11
Q4'83 8.5 Q4'11
Q1'84 8.0 Q1'12
Q2'84 7.1 Q2'12
Q3'84 3.9 Q3'12
Q4'84 3.3 Q4'12
Anything less than 3.2 is null at best. Most commercial forecasts call for <2.0% through '12 with the CBO continuing to revise their growth rate projections towards the lower rates.
Posted by: Rick Ballard | September 02, 2011 at 12:08 PM
To be fair, those pics of BHO are not of a 22 year old young man, but an 18 year old kid during his freshman year at Occidental.
I am no Obama fan, but (a) fair is fair and (b) these kinds of mistakes just give the Dems breathing room for the various accusations that they are going to make

His practice of doing end-runs around the congress because as Carney says"he can do it" is going to come back and bite him and his fellow dems up for re-election in a big way.
Right. Especially when ElJefe's main strategy now appears to be "blame Congress". That American Thinker article linked earlier looks like a good place to start developing an effective anti Obama theme.

Weren't there a bunch of complaining whiners going on about an "Imperial Presidency" just, oh, about 2.5 years and a bit ago?
What was it they were calling themselves?? "Progressives"?? "Democrats"?? Ah, well, some Imperial President probably had them all jailed, exiled, or shot or they'd be totally livid today, right?
