Bellweather!!!!!

Chubby

LOL!!!!!

Sue

I haven't clicked, but something tells me it has something to do with a weiner.

Danube of Thought

I still want at least one more Weiner thread.

MarkO

So did Weiner.

Frau Edith Steingehirn

Hot dog!

Threadkiller

The seat won’t be easy for the taking

A recount is certainly in the making

Weiner will be there

With everything bare

So chad won’t be the only one left hanging

henry

Wurst limerick ever.

Threadkiller

Don't knack it, henry.

henry

TK. ; )

MarkO

TK, I know you've hired a writer. Good choice. LOL.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

To be frank, TK is being a limerick Brat.

Danube of Thought

Is it time for the buns again?

Neo

The Surffin Rabbi makes an appearance.

Jim Miller

As I reported in my post this morning, the InTrade bettors have made Turner the favorite. There aren't many of them, so I wouldn't put too much weight on that, alone. But, putting that together with the two recent polls, I would say that Turner is at least a 2-1 favorite. At least.

(Back in June, echoing Kraushaar, I said that the Republican candidate had a chance, if Weiner were to resign.)

MarkO

He’s a kosher Weiner, right?

Clarice

Did you guys see this--speaking of ponzi schemes and changing ss?

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/08/panetta-confirms-pentagon-considering-replacing-military-retirement-with-401k-plan.php

Jane

I think the military should insist that every government worker and elected official do the same thing.

Clarice

Won't that be a good topic for you this week? Start with the overly generous Congressional pensions to set an example.

Danube of Thought

Not a single government employee should receive more favorable retirement benefits than the men and women who complete military careers. I hope some politician will take a stand on this.

Jack is Back!

Military.Com reported that a few days back and amongst our little ex-military group here we just rolled our eyes. We are already losing our officer corp and our top NCO corp while the services are cutting back on quality recruitment. Next to go - Capehart housing, the PX, BX, Commissary and base Hospital. Count on it.

But as long as the JEF is Potus and CinC you can count on the golf courses getting upgrades.

Jane

Won't that be a good topic for you this week? Start with the overly generous Congressional pensions to set an example.

Been there done that. This issue has been out for awhile.

Not that I won't revisit it.

Gmax

Well if my one man survey of possible changes to military pensions, indicate this change will be far more difficult than you might think. I walked into a Furniture store and the proprietor notices TMAX's haircut and manners and correctly diagnoses a military man. He tells me about his Marine son in law and his remaining 3 years to retirement. I mention that the administration was considering changing the pensions. The smile on his face disappears and he declares simply " NO, we are going to take care of our veterans." It was matter of fact but steely. I think this will be a major problem for Zero, if he pushes it, which he may just back off on it.

Clarice

I think the military deserves the best pensions provided by the govt, but I think it would not be a bad idea to make sure that if military are offered a self-invested and managed pension, we get the same opportunity, When Bush tried to get Congress to consider this for those of us not covered by govt pensions he was attacked, if you recall.

Ann

Henry and CC,

I have thought for some time that the first lady had gas:

Photobucket
Look at those faces and tell me she didn't rip one!

Jane

Actually I think all pensions should be gone. And I think people can do a better job with a 401K. Just make sure the "employer contribution" is adequate.

Ignatz

Ann you're a genius. LOL.

Clarice

I never want Ann to get her hands on pics of me, Iggie.

henry

Ann, LOL. Could it be the hidden reason for her staff turnover?

centralcal

lol, Ann!

Ann

Ignatz:

I just got home from dinner and took off my earrings. I had one gold diamond circle in one ear and one silver long dangling bob in the other.

Genius I am not, but I am really good at picking out a stinky bitch. :)

Clarice

It's just a matter of time until that sort of fashion forward look is adopted by america's busy mom and fashion icon, ann.

Threadkiller

What earrings did you put on before you went to dinner?

bgates

Is it time for the buns again?

Four hours since that was posted, and still no new Princess Victoria pictures. Oh, for shame.

Glanced at Dana Priest and William Arkin's Top Secret America, one chapter she itemizes
all the nodes of intelligence, in the greater Beltway Corridor, just the way an AQ spotter would, one of the more infuriating quotes come from Tom Fingar, head of INR, then moved to head operations from the DNI, where he helped draft the 2007 NIE; that whitewashed the Iranian nuclear program, Priest spots him
as one of the few that didn't get a contracting gig, ended up a professor at Stanford, describes the whole business as akin to cancer,

narciso

Tom Brokaw has 'jumped the Megalodon', if that wasn't already evident:

Stephanie 'Kindred Spirit Sister'

Well, the daughter is playing in her first college tournament this weekend and, apart from the rain, did ok. She's excited and says she will probably settle down tomorrow and play much better - she's in 2nd on her team. They played 6600 yards which is the longest course she has ever played (by about 700 yards), but it was flat. Plus, no rain is expected tomorrow, so that is a good thing.

Fingers crossed.

Carol Herman

You know, "Anthony" is not a Jewish first name! This character got to his district thru connections. (His mother's not Jewish. And, his wife is Muslim.)

And, Walpin, the democratic condendah, is a political boss, who threw himself at this seat! Much to the disgust of this district.

While sending in a GOP member to the House, sends someone over to Boehner who is not from the Tea Party!

Yes. Add that this is a "message" to Obama, that the most Jewish district in America is voting against him.

Clarice

William Arkin--what an odious creature whose self-description as an expert is so laughable.

bgates

narc, you have to admit that for Brokaw to call for an end to the use of drones is a statement against interest.

henry

Stephanie, sounds like your daughter is past the "OMG this is college level" and knows it is still golf. Hope she has fun and plays well!

Stephanie 'Kindred Spirit Sister'

Thanks, Henry... I hope so. See was awfully nervous this morning, so hopefully that won't be the case tomorrow...

Anyone else think the pic Drudge has up of Oblama right now makes him look like a flight attendant? Tea, anyone?

Clarice

Carol, I have read that the dem doesn;t live in that district and doesn;t plan to if he should win. That should be a big sell.

narciso

You know that didn't occur to me, bgates, Brokaw has the appearance of an anchor, although he is clearly as clueless as his
successor, Brian Williams. Come to think of it, Arkin probably wrote that part, seeing as he was almost gloating at all the operational
codenames he had uncovered.

Porchlight

I will make a bold prediction: If somehow Weiner pulls it out (lol) and wins in a squeaker, the media will say it is a good omen for Dems in 2012. If Turner wins, they will say that it's a special election under unusual circumstances and not predictive of anything.

Porchlight

LOL, Ann. I love your pics. And best of luck to your daughter, Stephanie!

Jane

Go Stephanie's daughter!!

caro

Oh,Ann!

caro

Very cool,Steph.

Talk about back-handed compliments from the WaPo. We're still racists and uneducated, in case you were wondering.

Clarice

Weiner's not in the race, Porch, but your point is right.
Congrats, Stephanie!

narciso

Yes, you'll get a lot of insight, from the likes of these reports, in the LUN, How does
one poll 109-110% of the Obama vote for Congress,

narciso

This other paper in the LUN, is better at gauging the situation, but then infers 'conclusions not in evidence' in the last part of the abstract, I know shocker.

Threadkiller

I would rather ask my friends a question (that I should know the answer) than rely on Google.

I just put up a 25' flagpole. Should the flag be flown at half-mast tomorrow?

So, the night before 9/11, NC PBS was Peter, paul and Mary, and the History Channel shows old Kennedy glorification home movies.

No, full throttle, clips to the pulley.

As the other verses to the Star Spangled Banner (paraphrased)+ say, "Hit This One Too! We're Not Done With You Yet!"

And put a light on it for the night.

But that's just me. I'm flying both the flag and the First Navy Jack.

Jane

Not half mast threadkiller - full patriotic mode.

Anyone know how many people die on a typical day?

Threadkiller

I knew the answer the whole time but for some reason I did not trust myself. I hope you don't think less of me for asking.

There are a lot more reasons to think less of me. ;-)

Melinda Romanoff

Jane-

Only those the Lord has asked for.

Captain Hate

I don't know what's more funny: TK's self-deprecating sense of humor or Notre Dame's D-backs.

Melinda Romanoff

G'night all.

Sometime I'll talk about my time in Tower 2.

Threadkiller

I must be operating off the same playbook, CH.

When to half-staff the flag

•May 15 — Peace Officers Memorial Day: half-staff from sunrise to sunset
•Last Monday in May — Memorial Day: the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon
•September 11 — Patriot Day: half-staff from sunrise to sunset
•First Sunday in October — Start of Fire Prevention Week: half-staff from sunrise to sunset. See Public Law 107-51
•December 7 — National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day: half-staff from sunrise to sunset

•Upon reliable information that the current or former President, current Vice-President, current or former Chief Justice, or current Speaker of the House has died
•Upon Presidential proclamation (see next) or your state's governor (see after)

What to do? I hope the answer is in the bottom of this bottle.

JM Hanes

Greetings from the Honolulu Airport, where Prince JMH and I are awaiting an inter-island flight as the sun sets even further west. We spent a super evening with (Another) Barbara and Mr. Barbara last night -- a moveable Thai feast, topped off with a lively after dinner visit from 3rd generation Barbs! We couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome or easier, interesting, exchanges (not all politics either!), or a lovelier spot, perched on the side of a lush Hawaiian hill, for making brand new old friends. So special in every sort of way.

Jane

Patriot day is in April.

I would fly my own flag at half mast, TK, in public remembrance of the thousands who were killed in an attack on American soil. It somehow seems even more appropriate, having spent the afternoon at Pearl Harbor where thousands also died. How better to say we will never forget, than with the flag itself, and thus the Republic for which it stands?

There are protocols for public institutions, but you don't need permission to follow your heart on this one.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I would fly it high and proud as a big eff-you to any wouldbe/wannabe hijackers and bombers out there.

Threadkiller

Thanks JMH. Even when I am not trying, I still create controversies.

”NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2011, as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. I call upon all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States to display the flag of the United States at half-staff on Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of the individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. I invite the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and interested organizations and individuals to join in this observance. I call upon the people of the United States to participate in community service in honor of those our Nation lost, to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time to honor the innocent victims who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.”
Threadkiller

I hate to do a half-staff/full-staff pole poll on the Weiner thread.

Who is flying their flag how? (Frau will like the sentence structure)

Half:
JMH
TK

FULL:
Mel
Jane
Sara

Mark Folkestad

I don't have a flag and pole at my temporary apartment, but it would be at half-staff if I did. Just remember that protocol is to raise it fully, to honor the nation, and then lower it halfway to honor the dead.

Agent J

Full, 24/7, 365. The only time it comes down is to replace it..

Tomorrow I will be having some 9mm target practice. Oh after I read Clarice..

Sometime I'll talk about my time in Tower 2.

hey, me too. Where were you working?

(Another) Barbara

I wish you hadn't raised this issue, TK. I had been happy in my ignorance of the presidential proclamation instructing us to display the flag at half mast on September 11. At our house we have never done so and now I am torn between half mast in mourning or full flown, in keeping with "Let's Roll!"

Have to admit there's something about the latter that just feels better intuitively and also honors the dead, I believe, but in a different, less submissive way.

(Another) Barbara

Thank you for your gracious words, JMH. We loved having you and your little boy -- all 6 ft. 6 inches of him! -- at our house last night. I hope both of you will come back soon and often. xoxo

No wonder I liked the filling in an Oreo best:)

From Clarice's outstanding Pieces just up:

"As usual, a counterfactual elite perspective was mouthed by now-President Obama who laid the blame on the attackers' "failure of empathy", "poverty and ignorance" and urged us to do more to alleviate the "hopes and dreams of embittered children" around the globe:..."

As if on que, from today's Seattle Times:"FBI ends up offending Muslims at outreach workshop:

"A Saturday (Sept 10) outreach event between representatives from Seattle police, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office was meant to improve their relationship with the Muslim, Arab, East African and Sikh communities in the Seattle area, but it ended up offending some participants."

Nice job Clarice.

Threadkiller,

Clearly you are right on all fronts and I regret playing your game. I can't stand out and wave a flag at half mast, but If you plan to spend the day on the couch, no problem.

Jack is Back!

The recent muslim immigrant community will always be outraged. They didn't come here for old Glory, Mom and apple pie. They came here to bring sharia, madrassas and the new caliphate. If they can feel offended in Seattle, just imagine how much fun they are having in Birmingham.

pagar

Great Pieces, Clarice!

http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/09/clarices_pieces_ten_years_after_911.html

"Quickly the fear and outrage we felt was considered by the elite to be too dangerous to acknowledge or validate. They consider the rest of us moronic murderers it would seem. Instead of reminding us of the truth of that day, they fed us a steady stream of gelding, feminizing pap about religion of peace, multiculturalism, overwrought (never realized) fears and claims of anti-Moslem discrimination and harassment, and blame shifting to us the acts of genuinely murderous thugs."

I have always wondered who actually made this decision.

Jack is Back!

Well done - bravo - Clarice.

Yes, this should be a day of rememberance of those innocent lives lost to mindless terror but also a day to be resolved that we do what is required to keep it from happening again. That last part starts with getting rid of this enabling, apologetic, sniveling regime and replacing it with one that values our Exceptionalism as a great and honorable nation.

Extraneus

Great ending, Clarice.

Jack is Back!

Janet Daly captures what it was like to live in London during 911 and the response from the lunatic left and the ignorant muzzies. I was there and I remember the dichotomy of coverage between The Telly, The Times, The Daily Mail and then the Guardian, BBC, Independent and Mirror. LUN

Clarice

THANKS ALL.

Janet

Wonderful Pieces, Clarice. Thank you.

Half mast doesn't seem correct...we are still engaged with the enemy.

centralcal

Very fitting to begin all the remembrances today by reading Clarice's Pieces. Reminds me of the sorrows of the day and the anger that remains - anger that also includes our hapless liberal elites.

Jane

President Bush is at 911 with Obama at the moment.

I really wish he would kick him in the shins.

Ralph L

then lower it halfway to honor the dead.

They call it half, but it's only supposed to be about a third down. US flags flown at night should be illuminated, something my YMCA is too cheap to do (and too lazy to take it down).
