God, I hope Barry makes it to November to be crushed in defeat.
At the rate his woes are piling up I'm less and less sure.

glasater

Gmax-

Got all choked up reading your comment about pinning the bars on your son.
So fitting with 9/11 remembrances coming on over the weekend.

Ranger

Jim Geraghty has a good wrap up of the upcomming special elections next week:

DCCC Conceding NV-2, Panicking About NY-9?

The race in Nevada has the Republican using this line:

“we’ve been promised recovery, and we’ve been given misery. Let’s send a message to Washington.”

Sounds like a winning theme for the national campaign next year to me.

Neo

Next, Obama will pivot to ... JOBS

glenda

clarice...
that ny times piece was something..and Chrissie Matthews said what?

If Palin can get the progressive liberal's Bible (times) to listen and begrudgingly admit she's got game....what a world !!

I am awake, right? Run. Sarah. Win.

narciso

Ah that never gets old, Neo, Congrats Gmax,

There are always some willing to sell out their integrity, cheap:

What a beautiful moment, Gmax, and what a wonderful tribute that officer paid both you and your son.

Neo

I wonder if Rep. Hank Johnson is really worried that DC could be in danger of tipping over and capsizing.

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vnjagvet

What a great moment, Gmax. I know It is not easy to earn the respect of an OCS tac officer. Apparently your son hasn't fallen far from the tree.

pagar

Congratulations Gmax and your son. Sounds like the military has some great leadership coming up.

Thanks Mel!

Ranger

Gmax,

Congrats to both of you!

Tell him to enjoy OBC, and pay close attention to what those crusty old NCOs are telling him. They know their way around tanks and will teach him more than he imagined he could learn about them.

Captain Hate

ian cormac, narc? How many nics do you have there?

Neo

White House Spokesman Jay Carney told Bill O’Reilly last night that the Obama Administration will announce how to pay for their $447 billion plan two weeks from now.

You have to pass the bill to find out how they will pay the bill.

I’ve seen this movie before.

Porchlight

Thanks Deb and Cap'n for the Rubio update. That certainly clears that up. Hope his mom recovers.

This is what passes for sensible, at my fishwrap, from the fellow who insisted on enshrining Islam in the Iraqi constitution:

Congrats, Gmax! Outstanding. What a day for your son and your family.

Janet

Gmax...what a wonderful post. Thank you for sharing. Just wonderful.

Former MA. House Speaker DiMasi gets 8yrs.

I wasn't able to get that NYT link to work, but isn't it logical that the left would start backing Sarah Palin now that Perry is their biggest nightmare? Surely they'd love to see a bloody battle that splits the conservative vote.

narciso

You go to the main page, and find the piece,
from there, Ext, since I used up my 20 free
articles, Anand is a fairly perceptive fellow
from his website

Top headline at Google Finance: Obama jobs plan spurs cautious hope among businesses

This is next to the graph that shows the Dow down more than 300.

That's caution all right.

FX markets are melting down. JY flash crashes.

Need a bigger helmet.

narciso

'It's a Glitch' like OCP CEO, Dick Jones was wont to say, PD, although brilliant moves like
the Swiss, signing onto the Euro, and the Luigi Vercotti decision for Germany, probably
have more to do with it.

Gmax-

Good for you and your son. Red loves that museum at the infantry center. Her brother took her when they were all still in high school to a civilian blow things up day.

I think they both officially had sore throats that schoolday.

There's a really good brewpub restaurant DT by the river. We wanted to go there with eldest and he was adamant no. Later he told his dad that until you get a certain level of recognition you don't go. It's where those you aspire to join hang out when they can.

Bet you and TMax now qualify and the beer and food are great.

Jim Miller

Narciso - You may be able to evade the NYT limit by getting to their articles indirectly, for example, through a Google news search instead of through their main site. (Or even just by clicking on a link where the article is discussed?)

I know that trick works to evade the WSJ pay wall for many articles.

Captain Hate

SP's so deeply in their empty heads that I'm betting she'll screw with them by not running. At this stage I'm hoping she has Duke & Duke's TOP MEN in her crosshairs and intends on ridding those vermin from any impact on public life. I would soooooo enjoy being able to completely ignore Rove and his ilk.

DebinNC

Former MA. House Speaker DiMasi gets 8yrs

NC can trump that. Our felonious Speaker was released from the federal pen at the same time our felonious Guv went in was saved from going in because, supposedly, the shame of seeing "first governor convicted of a felony" in future footnotes was deemed sufficient punishment, though actually the Dems knew he'd name names if faced with the pokey. This was the brilliant guv who appointed Mike Nifong Durham district attorney.

henry

Deb, don't get Mel talking about IL's long standing statehouse to state pen program.
; )

Here's his bio, despite having worked for Jill Abramson, he seems sensible, kind of like the foreign version of John Tierney

Well, well, well. Guess what caused the SoCal power outage? Turns out it was a screwup by a worker in the Arizona Power Authority. So much for government intervention.

Woot! Woot!

Melinda Romanoff

Amateurs, all of them.

Bill in AZ sez it's time for Zero to resign

"Well, well, well. Guess what caused the SoCal power outage? Turns out it was a screwup by a worker in the Arizona Power Authority"

That'll teach CA to boycott AZ over SB1070 :)

Danube of Thought

Gmax, that's just wonderful. Congratulations to you both.

Thomas Collins

Congrats to your son and to you, Gmax. Your posting on the OCS graduation ceremony brightened up my day.

Melinda Romanoff

If this is the market reaction to iBama's speech, Heaven help us after the State of the Union!

glenda

God bless Gmax and his family :)

porch...are you and the band safe from the wildfires? We are starting to smell the smoke from the fires in Montgomery & Waller counties closer in to Houston..One of my hubby's favorite golf courses is in Bastrop:(

DebinNC

This market reaction is so "unexpected".

Mark Steyn is subbing for Rush. "There is no bill." Yay!

jimmyk

DoT:
One can scarcely conclude a conversation without someone exclaiming, "what is to be done about these potholes!"

Certainly a job for the federal government, interstate commerce, blah, blah, blah.

Remember Senator D'Amato was derisively called "Senator Pothole" for his "constituent services." Now the community organizer extraordinaire has become President Pothole.

To add to Iggy's statement about how the state meddles is involved in electric utilities, and since it was power from Arizona to California, the FERC oversees transmission matters.

Mark Steyn is hilarious on O's speech. You can find a Rush station and listen to Steyn here.

Pass this bill now!

Frau Bankrott

Congratulations to the Gmax family. I thank Tmax for his service and his family for the upbringing.

Rick Ballard

Gmax,

Congratulations to Tmax on his achievement. With Jmax ensconced in a very good position, does this mean that you have now maxed out?

Jane

Former MA. House Speaker DiMasi gets 8yrs.

Now that is so racist since Chuck Turner a mere councilman got 3 years for a 1000 bribe.

But it's better than the last 2 Speakers who did no jail time.

GMAx, you must be the proudest father on the planet today - as you should be.

Frau Bankrott

"Pass the bill now or the bill gets it!" Thank you, Mark Steyn.

"Everything in this bill *will* be paid for." Pres. Ray D. Tutto who hopes we don't hear the strains of "What kind of fool am I?" in the background.

Porchlight

glenda, yes, thanks! We're closer to downtown. The Bastrop fire is particularly awful - in addition to 1400 homes, almost all 6000 acres of Bastrop State Park has been burned, including the Lost Pines. I have never visited it - always meant to go. :( I'm not sure of the status of the golf course - haven't heard anything yet.

Jim Ryan

How does a startup take $600M in cash and end up bankrupt two years later? It must have been really hard work for Solyndra to accomplish such a feat.

OldTimer

From the NYT's piece that Clarice posted:

"...She made three interlocking points. First, that the United States is now governed by a “permanent political class,” drawn from both parties, that is increasingly cut off from the concerns of regular people. Second, that these Republicans and Democrats have allied with big business to mutual advantage to create what she called “corporate crony capitalism.” Third, that the real political divide in the United States may no longer be between friends and foes of Big Government, but between friends and foes of vast, remote, unaccountable institutions (both public and private). .."

The LUN link works without registering

OldTimer

That's weird--the link does not apparently work. Maybe if you type this into the search bar it will bring up the article:

Some of Sarah Palin's Ideas Cross the Political Divide

Captain Hate

Damn, Steyn is on fire today; it will be a struggle to switch over to Tammy

Jim Ryan

"Pass this bill now! Nancy Pelosi suggests that you pass the bill so I can write it."

TypePest has refused my post containing the word S#mant!cle0. I wanted to know the ETA of said troll.

Jim Ryan

$10 says that NYT writer has had her car vandalized by end of day by one of her coworkers.

jimmyk

It worked for me, but I'm (blush) a subscriber to the print edition (mrs jimmyk makes me do it).

Notice how once again a positive piece has to be prefaced by the equivalent of "Of course, we know Sarah Palin is an idiot, but...." We saw that throughout the Bush years. Anytime someone outside conservative circles said something positive about Bush, it started out with "Of course Bush is the worst leader since Caligula, and is stupider than dirt, but...."

Rob Crawford

Oh, great. If you're in MetroWest Boston, watch out for a white Mitsubishi SUV. I work less than 5 miles from the Chicken Bone where Uncle Stinky likes to hang out and less than 4 miles from his packy. It's not as though Moonbatachusetts is going to deport him.

Can't access the Palin article from the HotAir link, either. Maybe the NYT is trolling for subscriptions.

I went to the Times site, and linked from there.

Thanks, Narciso.

glasater

The NYT's link worked fine for me but I think I've registered with them some time ago.

Jane

Dave,

I want to know if the order came from the White House.

I swear anyone other president would have been impeached about 10 times by now.

jimmyk

On rereading the NYT piece, my 12:49 was a bit harsh, but I do think the subtext is: "Here's some remarkable news! Sarah Palin said something intelligent!"

Meanwhile, what possesses people to do this,

http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/jjmnolte/2011/09/09/san-francisco-hosts-911-conspiracy-film-festival/

The fact that Summers, who has dabbled in bizarre conspiracies, about Hoover and Nixon,
and gives the denialists too much of a hearing, is why I can't truly recommend it,
even though it has some good tidbits

Jim,
Are you coming to the beach this month?
You and Sandy Daze are in perfect pitch
singing the Obama dirge and haven't even met.

Laura, just pass the bill or check your email.

Charlie (Colorado)

I'd be much less skeptical if this was something he was doing under the radar instead of writing a book about it.

But then, you could say the same thing about God.

Laura

Jim.

Read and responded. Have you passed the damn bill yet?

Frau Bankrott

"Just plug the damn hole."
"Just sit down and shut up."
"Just pass the bill."

peter

Pass this bill--isn't that what the counterfeiter said to his assistant?

jimmyk

"Just let me finish my waffles!"

PD

Greetings from Ennis, MT.

I don't see any Nol-Ennis around, though, which is probably a good thing because there would probably be bloodshed between the Ennis and Nol-Ennis. Unless of course Kai Opaka also happens to be in the neighborhood.

Gmax

does this mean that you have now maxed out?

I have certainly been accused of that and worse!

I have one more in high school. She wants to study robots!

Spent some time with TMax's two roommates for the next year. Let me tell you, these are outstanding young officers. And very fine young men. We can definitely sleep well, our defense is in the good hands...
