This will never fly.
Not because a Mexican might touch it, but because an endangered lizard or kangaroo rat might.

bgates

Is it really that hard to simultaneously run for office, respect the limited government philosophy of the Founders, and not sound nuts?

macphisto

somebody want to tell me again how this mediocre also-ran candidate from six months ago with the reputation for saying something moronic every time he opened his mouth is suddenly a better candidate that Perry? seriously, some Republicans need to quit falling in love with every new candidate down the pike that talks like a damn radio host.

Extraneus

Here are pics from Singapore, similar to one I've personally seen on a fence surrounding a telephone transmission station.

Anyone want to guess how many people have ignored the sign and been shot? I bet a hundred dollars on zero.

Anyone want to wager on when the last person was convicted of drunken driving in Singapore?

Maybe what we really need are Obama's moats and alligators?

Or...

You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads...can you people remind me what I'm paying you for, I mean honestly, throw me a bone here.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I don't think Cain is being a kook with this. Personally, the shock should knock 'em on their ass and leave a burn big enough to remind them it is not a good idea to touch the fence.

somebody want to tell me again how this mediocre also-ran candidate from six months ago with the reputation for saying something moronic every time he opened his mouth is suddenly a better candidate that Perry?

Both Cain and Paul are about a thousand times smarter than Perry and probably nicer too. Perry doesn't seem like a very nice person to me and Lord knows, I've tried hard to warm up to him, but instead he just continues to lose ground in my eyes.

KLSmith

Love him, BUT he's gonna blow himself up. Plus he doesn't have any money and isn't organizing a ground game. Perry apparently has had a much slower burn rate of campaign funds than Romney, Bachmann, Gingrich.
I like that. If you're not going to spend your own money wisely, I know you won't be careful with mine.

Jane

I predict a Perry come back with his jobs bill. Well then there will be another debate...

Perry hasn't been in as long as the other three and who says they haven't spent their money wisely? It costs a fortune to establish a working organization in 50 separate states. But, without that organization, a candidate is pretty well doomed.

I'm at a loss as to why Cain continues to go to out of the way book tour places instead of concentrating in the early primary states. It is not working against him right now, but he better start focusing. Has Perry even moved out of Texas with his campaign yet? I don't really know.

Who is him?

Janet

All Republican ideas are stupid. Fences, electric fences, armed guards,...it is all stupid. The system we have now is superior.
Unless maybe you want to STOP people from other countries just walking over the border...

narciso

That is true, Janet, take his 9-9-9 plan, the objections seem to be more like rally every interest group against it, and the fear that
the rates will increase, as with Ryan's plan,
there is an obstacle to any real change in the system,

hit and run

It's ok,narciso. Let's suck everyone into the black hole that OWS is. Give them as glowing a press as possible now. It ain't gonna end pretty -- and the more we can get to endorse and promote them now the better.

When princess hit and run was 2 -- it was kinda cute when she would throw a fit when we told her it was time to go to bed. Cute because it was all spectacle and she was small enough you could just pick her up and take her and put her to bed despite her protestations. Even though we thought it was cute -- we still put down the rebellion.

You couldn't embrace her fits, encourage her fits, lest her fits would get bigger and harder to control in the future.

The dems the media are embracing the equivalent of a two year old's fit -- encouraging it. It'll only get bigger. And bigger. Until it's a six year old physically lashing out. And then a ten year old....and then a teenager....

Eventually we'll hear the recriminations. And then the lamenation...but she was soooo cute when she was two . . . what happened?

 Ann

I don't understand the problem with Cain's proposal.

Anyone that owns a horse probably has an electric fence.

How many people that own a dog have an electric fence?

How many security places have one?

**************
Gawd, it will be the new water boarding issue that was resolved with killing terrorists with drones. I just love that one.

henry

June 15, 2010, so Cain didn't think up this "loony" idea on his own? Nice catch TK.

Jack is Back!

First, why is it "kooky" for a President to pursue electrifying a border fence when it is the POTUS responsibility to protect his country and its citizens security? You mean it is not kooky to use drones in the four corners of true world taking down potential threats to the homeland but it is really odd and strange to do so a the point of penetration?

I wonder how TM would feel if The Constitution State had a border with Mexico instead of The Ocean State? Believe me, I would rather fight a bunch of hedge fund manager from Watch Hill than a gang from Sinaloa.

memomachine

Hmmmm.

People have been making noises about Perry being such a conservative. I judge people by how they act, not by how they are represented by third parties.

Perry acts like a liberal Democrat.

I'm going with Cain.

For grins, let's say Rick Perry is the nominee.

I want Obama to greet the Texas Rangers at the White House after their World Series win right smack dab in the middle of the presidential election next year.

For the record,Obama welcomed the SF Giants on July 11 this year. And he welcomed the WS champs in May 2009 and April 2010...

Premature on both Perry and the Rangers of course.

But still.

Sue

So, just for grins, who do we beat in the World Series? The Cards or the Brewers?

JM Hanes

JiB:

"First, why is it "kooky" for a President to pursue electrifying a border fence"

I'd use a stronger term than "kooky" for a fence that will kill people.

MarkO

"Nelson Cruz just passed Babe Ruth!" So, he out, right. Easy now. Babe did his work in the World Series.

As to our Dear Brother Cain, it's a book tour, my friends. A book tour.

It was posted to Facebook today as "Mary Pearson shared Danny Waddell's photo." I thought it looked more like one of their anti-war parades, but the comments seemed to imply it was at one of the OWS locations.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I am excited for all our Texan JOMers. Congratulations!

hit and run

Has any other JOMer played in Rangers stadium?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

CHACO: I didn't even read the whole article, but I think it was a new report on a study done in the UK. Please don't make me try to find it again.

JM Hanes

Aside from the kooky politics, of course, electric fences are easy to short out. Even hogs, who sense when the juice is on, can figure out how to do it.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I love the fact that every time Obama picks a team they lose, but W's team is going to the World Series. Tee hee hee.

Janet

I just wondered Sara...I'm so sick of the MFM pretending the OWS kooks aren't radicals. These same people were the anti-war marchers in 2003. Your 10:32 link is so sad, scary,...

MarkO

A friend just emailed to say he spent an evening in the back of a '55 Ford with Joan and acquired enough bactieria to kill us all.

hit and run

Ok, fine. It wasn't the current Ballpark in Arlington,but...

I played in the old Rangers stadium back in 1988. Highschool all-star game. Played right field, went 1-2 with a single up the middle.

I had one play come to me in right field, runner trying to advance from first to third. Took the ball on a couple of hops and fired my throw to third.

Maybe I was a little amped up. Threw the ball on the fly over the head of the third baseman and into the fifth row in the stands. On a line.

It was a bad throw. But I had college recruiters coming up to me after the game.

Janet

Taking my cue from Pigford -
I've never played in Rangers stadium, but I've thought about it.
Do I get kudos for that?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Hit: When my son went to Umpire School at Fordham in NYC, he got to umpire a game at the original Yankee stadium. To this day, I think he still says it is the most exciting thing he has done in sports as a player, coach, or umpire.

Sue

Janet,

Kudos!

Clarice

With stuff like this is there any question why Hit is my favorite--" sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.." ?

Sue

My 1st big league game was the Texas Rangers at the old ballpark. Toby Harrah played shortstop. Bill Fahey was a backup catcher. I remember him because he was married to my sister in laws cousin. I was trying to remember what the old stadium looked like and I can't.

Stephanie Road Warrior Seeking Roadkill

My son was at the game at Arlington for Ryan's seventh no hitter. Does that count?

He also played in the old Atlanta stadium for a pregame exhibition t ball game and in the new stadium for a pregame exhibition for travel ball. Also, the Cleveland Indians spring training stadium, the Yankees Spring training stadium and the new Braves spring training stadium at Disney his last year of travel ball.

He also played in the really cool Birmingham "Rickwood Field" where the old Black Barons played and where Willie Mays started his career at 14. Babe Ruth also played there as did Josh Gibson. It was told to us by the staff that Babe Ruth hit a HR there that landed in a train car going by which was supposedly retrieved from that rail car in Texas a few days later. It's referred to as the longest HR ever hit or something like that.

My son was thrilled that he sat on the same bench where those guys had, pitched from the same mound as they did and wee'd in the same trough in the ground in the tunnel that they had wee'd in.

Kids are so funny...

Stephanie Road Warrior Seeking Roadkill

Oh, I forgot to mention that he scooped up and bottled some of that supposed Ruth/Mays/Gibson pee'd upon dirt and brought it home for a souvenir. Ewwww...

He still has it on a shelf in his apartment.

Sara:

One of the most fun times I've had was long after my baseball career was over. I was at a conference in Boston in 2003. I was staying a mile or so from Fenway -- but never having been to Boston before I had to go. The Red Sox were out of town,so I just hiked it over to the stadium in the middle of the day. Got to the back of the green monster and some truck was there making a delivery. So I just sauntered on up to the open doorway that led to left field and decided I would just keep walking until someone chased me off. It didn't take long -- but I did make it to the warning track before anyone noticed.

hit and run

Heh, Sue. Yeah, I didn't make it to a game until the late 70s...

Melinda Romanoff

My first game was a Ferguson Jenkins game as well, but Randy Hundley was catching,Ernie Banks was on first, and Billy Williams was in left.

At the Friendly Confines, of course. I saw the Bears play there before ever I saw a Cubs game.

And g'night.

Sue

I still can't remember the old Arlington Stadium, even though we were there several times with our kids during the late 80s and early 90s. The only thing I can remember is sitting in the stands and seeing the new stadium being built. And thinking it was a monster. Now, Jerryworld makes The Ballpark look like a miniature.

Anyway, I have pictures somewhere of my time there in the 70s and again with the kids during the Juan, Pudge, Jose, Rafael years. I'll have to dig them out someday to see if it brings back memories of the old stadium.

Night y'all.

Stephanie Road Warrior Seeking Roadkill

H&R, I wish that my son was able to play college ball like you did (he walked on at UAB and they canned the coach at the end of the season and he wasn't picked up by the new coach and given the $$ that the other coach had promised- totally bummed him for college ball after that).

He still misses playing and has stared giving lessons and clinics and is majoring in Education and Computer Science so he can coach at the HS level. He's got about 20 kids in his program and growing. Being a former student of Greg McMichael's and then later working for him at his clinics at Hardball Warehouse reawakened his love for the game. It was too bad Hardball Warehouse recently closed (who can afford $75- $100/ hour for lessons nowadays?), but he's now got little competition for his clinics :)

JM Hanes

Via The Corner, Obama has released his list of top bundlers. The lion's share of the $500,000+ fundraisers hail from California and New York, which is not exactly a surprise. As others have pointed out, Steve Spinner of Solyndra fame, is on that top 40 list.

So, I was wondering about Romney's donors and ran across this interesting comparison.

Sue

One last thing...I wonder what Cliff Lee is doing tonight? ::grin::

Sara (Pal2Pal)

JMH: I am more blown away with Ron Paul's military donations. Army, Navy, Air Force, what's up with that?

Sara (Pal2Pal)

"The Republican nominee for a northern New Mexico congressional seat suggested during a radio interview that the United States could place land mines along the Mexican border to secure the international boundary."

A career ender?

" Mullins subsequently won the primary on June 1."

Kook.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I don't like the idea of land mines. I don't want them crossing the border illegally and anything that slows the progress is good in my book, but not land mines. I would never want to take the risk of maiming a child, mangling their limbs or blowing them off. I think Princess Di's Land Mine Cause had a great affect on me at the time and the idea of land mines where children could set one off gives me cold chills.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Sorry, mistake, her job is in jeopardy, but she hasn't been fired yet.

Pops

I've been to places run by our government that have signs that clearly state that if you trepass, DEADLY FORCE IS AUTHORIZED.

So what's the difference?

Pops

People are simply uninformed. The Uniteds States has used electrified fences and even huge landmines to protect US property and interests, this is nothing new.

There were 735 Acres with 55,000 land mines around GITMO, placed there by the US and Cuba.

Its called a 'no mans land' and it is very effective.

Pops

Sara "I would never want to take the risk of maiming a child, mangling their limbs or blowing them off."

So I take it you do not lock your car? There's a risk someone with a child will break the window and the child would get hurt. Or do you leave your doors unlocked? There's a chance an illegal could try to break in and hurt their child in the process.

I take it you don't drive over 5 miles an hour? There's a chance an illegal with a child could run into the street and you could hit them.

And you don't want America laws enforced? There's a chance their children could be hurt when we raid their flop houses, break up their prostitution rings, chase a drunk illegal with his children in the car.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

--------------

I oppose tall fences because someone could get hurt illegally climbing them to break into a place.

I oppose bank vaults because people get hurt with torches trying to cut into them.

I oppose chastity belts because.......well, you get the picture. I hope.
