F & F document release last night brings the matter right into the WH. Thousands Protest at Bank of America Offices in Boston

“We had to set a stand to let Bank of America know they cannot foreclose on families and put them out on the street,” Carolyn Grant one of the protesters said as her cohorts in the holding unit cheered in the background.

Bank of America spokesman T.J. Crawford dismissed the demonstration as a publicity stunt.

There was no mention of Bank of America's planned debit card fees, which recently have generated headlines and frustrated customers nationwide.

Abington school official apologizes for bra trick played on woman

School Superintendent Peter G. Schafer said the magic trick “was a surprise to everyone. I know Mr. Fitzgerald regrets performing (the) trick and has apologized.”

As he has done at past meetings, Fitzgerald opened Tuesday’s meeting with a trick that he learned as an amateur magician.

The handkerchief trick needed three participants. Fitzgerald picked Shannon and Killian, both of whom played along as Fitzgerald tied the two handkerchiefs into a knot and gave one end to Shannon. He then instructed Killian to hold the knot tightly against her chest.

Both men then pulled on their end of the handkerchief and out from under Killian’s folded arms popped a bra tied to the handkerchiefs.

Fewer than 10 people sat in the audience. Four school committee members sat at the meeting table with the superintendent and the high school student representative. Two other school officials sat at another table.

No one in the meeting room at town hall laughed or made a comment about the trick.

The meeting was shown live on cable TV.

Let's see, the NSC knew the ATF was allowing [and now we know actually buying and sending] thousands of guns to Mexican drug cartels but didn't tell Barry, even though Barry was out yammering about all the guns going illegally to Mexico from the US. Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket.

I read that in the dead tree this morning, Iggy. The funny thing is if El JEFe wasn't such a doctrinaire imbecile, he would be impressed by the achievements of fracking in both oil and natural gas, despite getting no support from the feds, as being an example of the ingenuity of people in this country to develop something out of almost nothing. He's ignoring something that could help him in favor of a scam that is being gradually revealed as damaging to the country as a whole. And he's chosen to tie that albatross around his neck.

Captain Hate

Again, somebody has to tell Reince Priebus that the "special arrangement" with Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina isn't appreciated by the rest of the country and if he had any sense he'd tell those jerkwad states to go to the end of the line. This is the arrangement that gave us McCain in the last Presidential election; which is an indication that this system is not working well at all.

"Thousands protest at bank"
As a result of bank takeovers, I am about to undergo my 10th bank account change of the past 20 years. The usual notice consisted of a two page welcome letter. With the advent of the Commisar Warren's attack on consumers
sponsored by Dodd-Frank and aided by 12 "we must always comprise with Democrats to shaft the taxpayer" Republicans; the welcome letter from Wells Fargo has grown to a 4 page letter plus 110 pages of absolute pure communist BS in three booklets.

A month ago, Wachovia notified me that I might be eligible for a settlement from them because the DOJ had successfully argued that some customers that were handicapped might have been mistreated by the bank. In days gone by, if I felt I was mistreated by a bank I took my business elsewhere. Now the DOJ determines whether I have been mistreated.

Who does any person in their right mind think is going to pay for all of this BS?
The taxpayer is being shafted again by the politicians.

Every single thing I have been exposed to as a result of the Dodd-Frank carp has been a loss to me. Every bit of it has seen Republican lawmakers compromising with Democrats to hurt taxpayers. End the comprising now.

Here's my own solution to the swipe fee problem: Let merchants charge different prices to customers who use cash, debit cards, and credit cards.

A little example, by way of background: The owner of my local Taco del Mar told me that about half of his customers use plastic. I think that's crazy, and that we ought to discourage using plastic for small, direct purchases, any purchase less than, say, a hundred dollars.

Not all merchants would take advantage of that freedom to charge extra for plastic, but enough would so that we would discourage people from treating plastic like actual money.

MarkO

TK, can he see me waiving?

maryrose

Jim Miller;
I try to only rarely use plastic. After listening to Dave Ramsey and reading his books I'm a cash person.

Extraneus

A banking thread? Great. Here's another pitch for something that's helped me a great deal: Mint.com.

Mint.com is an amazing, free, web application that tracks all of your asset and liability accounts: bank accounts, investments, loans, credit cards, real estate, etc. It classifies all expenditures and tracks those against budgets, but only those it can see. Cash transactions don't get counted, so I use plastic as often as possible, specifically an airline mileage credit card that gets paid off every month.

[I have no affiliation with Mint.com.]

Ignatz

--Let merchants charge different prices to customers who use cash, debit cards, and credit cards.--

Don't they have that freedom already?
I know an awful lot of gun dealers who routinely charge a 3% surcharge for any credit card purchases.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I use my debit card for everything. I can't recall the last time I wrote a check. I stopped using credit about 6 years ago.

"I do not understand this contradiction about Obama -- he messes up so badly on domestic issues but on the drone attacks and terrorism he's almost a champ.
It doesn't fit in with the presumed marxist thinking."

IMHO I think that Obama does not actually respect or believe in any rules. They do not apply to him. Rules only apply to the ruled (ie: everyone else in society).

I see nothing in his experience that shows me he has ever had to respect or abide by any rules whatever (ie not having to pay for College and not having to do the work to get accepted to those Colleges, not needing to provide Transcripts, not needing to write articles at the Harvard Law Review, not having to do standard homework stuff, not having to bust his ass to write his books, not needing to abide by standard loans to purchase his palatial Chicago House, not needing to produce the proper paperwork required to prove citizenship for elections, etc).

It works for me to view him as simply doing whatever he wants at any given moment to accomplish whatever he wants to accomplish, in complete disrespect of and disregard of any rules. Sometimes, as in this terrorism case, it'll appear to work to our advantage, but again he will in no way be actually called out to account for doing this by the MSM whereas if we simply inserted Bush into the same scenario we'd not hear the end of it until the day after the next election.

Jim Miller

Ignatz - In my area (Seattle suburbs), I haven't seen any stores that do that, although I have seen a few signs saying they don't accept plastic for purchases less than some amount, typically five dollars. I have in the past seen signs like the one you mention, but not for some time.

A mail-order book store in Connecticut, Edward R. Hamilton, charges higher prices for plastic purchases -- but they do that by setting up a legally separate company.

Sara(Pal2Pal) I am -- mostly -- trying to encourage people to use cash for small, direct purchases, not checks. My usual threshold for cash purchases is $200. (If crime were more of a problem where I live, I would use a lower threshold.)

Chubby

daddy, it seems to me that he defers his responsibilities to others. Decision making is not his strong point. So in the case of the military actions being good, he is letting the generals do what they think is best. They scored big for him with OBL. Problem is, he is letting less competent people do what they think is best in other departments as well --Obamacare, Solyndra, etc.

MarkO

daddy,

I agree. I think Obama has no coherent foreign policy because it enables him to do whatever he feels like at a given moment. Take the latest drone attack against a US citizen and his Gitmo stance as examples.

He's dramatically undisciplined. Soft?

Ignatz

--Ignatz - In my area (Seattle suburbs), I haven't seen any stores that do that...--

--"I do not understand this contradiction about Obama -- he messes up so badly on domestic issues but on the drone attacks and terrorism he's almost a champ.

If you have no strategy then there is nothing better than popping off cruise missiles and drone strikes. Ask Clinton. It's easy, cheap, nearly casualty free and gives the appearance of doing something useful, and it is, marginally.

The problem is, it's in lieu of doing the heavy strategic lifting of dealing with Iran, Turkey, Syria, Pakistan and others who are the strategic threat and the terrorists puppet masters.
Cheap easy drones don't work on them so we'll just have a little theater in Yemen and outer Kajerkistan instead.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

My life is entirely electronic. Pay all my bills on line, do most of my shopping on line, the rest I use the debit card.

BR

Ignatz

RichatUF

...but on the drone attacks and terrorism he's almost a champ...

Only the aspect that we know. The Administration, CIA, and military have been bitten by double agents, and the drone bombing campaign would be sensitive to it. Also, since we can't capture, interrogate, and lock terrorists up and the administration wants to cut the military and reduce our presence in MENA, the drone program is the sort of cheap, clean option the Administration would turn too. Bill Clinton liked crusie missiles, and we heard plenty how successful they were.

Or shorter, I'm not confidant the Administration isn't getting stung with the drone program and while the administration gets a shoulder ride around Langley, other threats are gathering that they are not seeing.
