daddy

Very encouraging Jim Ryan.

Here's the latest link to the race results.

Thanks much for explaining it all.

Jim Miller

North Carolina 2008 squeaker: 2,142,651-2,128,474

In 2004, Bush won the state 1,961,166-1,525,849. So McCain outdrew Bush significantly, and still lost, though very narrowly.

Janet

Yeah I'm still lurking, Jim. Thanks for the updates.

Ann

Congratulations VA, I knew things were turning when Janet was made a Precinct Captain! Woot Janet!

Happy Birthday, Captain! Ahians reminded Sharrod Brown what we thought of his Obamacare mandate vote. We are coming after him next.

Oh, I almost forgot. If anyone is going to take a lie detector test it will not be Herman Cain. It will be Obama, Holder, and 59 Heinz czars. The nerve of that question tonight.

narciso

Lisa, does have a keen sense of the obvious, on occasion, what is Lease A about, daddy.

Jim Ryan

Holy mackerel! Reeves (R) wins if recount holds! 100% of precincts reporting and recount expected.

narciso

That's true, Ann, but they suffer from the George Constanza problem; 'it's not a lie, if you believe it'

jimmyk

Congratulations VA

Is this a done deal? I presume there will be a "recount" (wink, wink) in Houck's district and he'll win. That would make it 18-18. Who controls then?

Janet

Hey Ann! Good to "see" you. I need to write ya...something silly & totally unrelated to politics, just to boost our spirits.

Jim Miller

Polls have closed here in Washington state. Sort of.

We are now an all vote-by-mail state, and ballots are legitimate as long as they are postmarked the day of the election. So, in principle, a Washington voter could find a Post Office that keeps late hours -- I think there's one at SeaTac -- and still vote.

There are some interesting ballot issues, but only one significant race. King County (which includes Seattle) has an officially nonpartisan county council, and my representative, Jane Hague, is being challenged by at lefty Dem.

The Dems already control the council, but if they win her seat, they will have more freedom to raise taxes.

Oh, and our election officials blundered again, and didn't get a bunch of ballots mailed out when they should have, perhaps as many as 21,000.

Captain Hate

Happy Birthday, Captain! Ahians reminded Sharrod Brown what we thought of his Obamacare mandate vote. We are coming after him next.

Absolutely but the Issue 2 vote was disappointing. Still if something like it comes up in a future vote, John Glenn will be in Hell along with Joe Paterno and Jerry Sandusky, and in addition to their eternal torture of catching rockets of a different type, will be the knowledge that their scams were finally recognized.

Barbara
Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski says Herman Cain should get out of the race for president if the allegations of sexual harassment against him are true and confirmed.

Not that I disagree with her, but it appears that Sen. Murkowski is repaying a "debt" to the Republican leadership by being the first to call for Cain to leave the race - should the allegations be confirmed, etc.

Jim Ryan

Jimmy, it looks like it will be 21-19. There are 40 seats, with 4 races still undetermined. If Houck loses recount it's a 20-20 split senate probably.

Lieutenant Gov Bolling votes in case of tie in senate votes, and he is GOP. So a 20-20 split is a GOP senate.

Jim Ryan

If you look at the tallies, anything that isn't dark red or dark blue is still undetermined: 4 races, including the Reeves-Houck race.

Ann

Here is why I Congratulated VA:

Very Liberal , Larry Saboto Tweets:

By the slimmest of margins, GOP may have taken VA Senate.

VA SENATE now leans to Rs. All pcts in key Dist 17. Reeves(R) ahead of Houck(D) by 86 votes out of 45,000. Recount certain.

IF IF IF the new tally holds, GOP will grab VA Senate 20-20 (GOP Lt Gov) & full control of state govt.

(Believe Me...He has seen the light!!!)

Jim Ryan

Okay, it's 19-19 now. Two races undetermined.

daddy

Narciso,

I don't know for sure but I think Lease A is just part of the Leases that were discussed many months ago when I attended and took notes on the BOEMRE Public Hearing as to whether new Lease Sales should be approved. I can't find a definitive picture of Lease A but here is a shot of current Chukchi Leases so you can get the idea.

From todays latest ADN story which I imagine you've already read, Obama to expand oil drilling off Alaska, in Gulf of Mexico, I still take it all with a grain of salt until I see action.

A paragraph in that story illustrates my skepticism:

"Shell Oil Co. paid the federal government $2.1 billion for petroleum leases in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska's northwest shore in 2008, the last time federal waters in Alaska were auctioned off. But nearly four years later, the oil giant has yet to drill an exploratory well because of lawsuits brought by environmental groups and delays in its air pollution permit. The company hopes to start drilling in 2012."

Same old, same old. Lucy/Football/Charlie Brown etc, but I guess its better than nothing.

Jim Ryan

Yes, Ann, it looks like 20-20 if recount doesn't change the Reeves-Houck race. For political junkies this is GOP taking senate (until a Dem Lieutenant Governor is elected possibly in 2013) because of the LG's tie-breaking power.

Captain Hate

Conservatives don't
think of Reagan as particularly policy oriented,

I think what ace meant is that conservatives don't think of ace as being particularly intelligent. Or insightful. The Cahrlse Jhoonns similarities continue to grow as does my time away from the vat of perfidy. He's already lost a lot of his good commenters while the suck-up quislings remain in place. Too bad but this didn't begin yesterday.

Jim Ryan

So if results hold, GOP controls VA state gummint: House, Senate, Guv, Lieutenant Guv and AG. (Until tonight it had already controlled all but a 22-18 Dem House.)

daddy

Latest from Jim's link shows the Repub guy in District 17 ahead by 86 votes out of 44,986 cast. Fingers crossed everyone. XX

SWarren

Heh, C-cal
Mark Levin was playing that tape over and over on his show.
My heart soared when a highly respected newsman like Bill Kurtis intimated that he has the goods on Bialek.

jimmyk

Thanks, Jim R. Duh--not thinking too clearly at this hour. Anyway, the recount should prove interesting if control hangs in the balance.

daddy

Maybe its just me, but I would have thought that before you try to take off on a frozen lake in an airplane, you first make sure that the lake is frozen:)

Stephanie

Daddy, did you hear about the deer that walked into a bar in Alpharetta, Georgia?

LUN

caro

Daddy, it almost feels like Alaska. I have had a cow and calf moose just outside my window almost all day. This evening they were lying in the grass chewing their cud.

caro

And, daddy, I have been meaning to tell you that my cousin's wife is Jane Williamson, an engineer with the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission,

Porchlight

caro, my mom is a Williamson. We need to talk.

Web design melbourne, web design sydney

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 21% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-nine percent (39%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -18.

Stephanie

Food for thought:

“[I]f thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought. [....] “This invasion of one’s mind by ready-made phrases [e.g. harrassment is in the eye of the beholder, it's the seriousness of the charge, the cover-up is worse than the crime, somebody should have "gotten out in front of" something, sombody hasn't proceeded according to somebody else's arbitrary expectations] can only be prevented if one is constantly on guard against them, and every such phrase anesthetizes a portion of one’s brain.” (George Orwell, Politics and the English Language).

thanks to Ernst over at PW for finding that nugget of truth.

daddy

That's wilder than my garage bear Stephanie!

Caro,

I would love it if your in-law posted because I know I don't know enough about our Oil/Gas issues and it sounds like she might.
And isn't it neat having moose trampling around the yard and eating bark and berries. I never get tired of watching such stuff.

rse

I like that quote Stephanie. When I get done you will see why. That was Chapter 2.

It's also why people get so frustrated when they are merely implementing something they have heard over and over in meetings they do not seem to appreciate were a managed message from the get go. And then I come along and explain with vivid examples and reasons what is wrong with the CW and what will really happen if it is implemented. All that training then wants to revert to "but the consensus is". Consensus can affect future reality but it's a poor replacement for it.

I really came over to give the link to the print essay where Richard Epstein lays out the same case he made in that PBS interview on the benefits of the 1% and inequality if we are talking market entrepreneurs and not political ones. LUN

I would add to Epstein fine comments that anytime the emphasis is on these gaps-achievement, income, wealth, power-the focus is designed to create demand for a solution to a naturally occurring phenomenon in order to justify government coercion. The iron fist in the velvet glove I wrote about over the weekend.

pagar

Janet, No better way to say it!

"'Wanna be like Detroit?! Vote Democrat!!'

I'm with you, cannot imagine any reason why an American would vote for a Democrat or vote to approve anything the Unions/Democrats recommend.

Clarice

Associated Press, by Brett J. Blackledge and Suzanne Gamboa
A woman who settled a sexual harassment complaint against GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain in 1999 complained three years later at her next job about unfair treatment, saying she should be allowed to work from home after a serious car accident and accusing a manager of circulating a sexually charged email, The Associated Press has learned. Karen Kraushaar, 55, filed the complaint while working as a spokeswoman at the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the Justice Department in late 2002 or early 2003, with the assistance of her lawyer, Joel Bennett,

Looking up for Herman

narciso

What Ace doesn't get, well that can fill multitudes, but Reagan unlike say Hoover
or Nixon, didn't make politics feel like root canal work, the happy warrior effect. Cain has some of this, I suppose Santorum does as well 'but you know' like the chorus in Revolution, who really has it,

I had forgotten that part of Politics in the English Language, those phrases didn't many more sense 70 years ago, as thy do now.

DebinNC

AP has a story this morning about Ms. Kraushaar, Cain's newly-named NRA accuser, filing a harrassment suit three yrs later in her INS spokeswoman job. She wanted a step increase that would have increased her salary around $18,000, a 1 year sabbatical to the Kennedy School of Gov, among other demands like right to work full-time from home...all denied. She also complained about a supposedly sexually charged comical email workers received about how men and women are different, using a computer as focus..."Men have to be turned on"..."Women store (stuff) in memory", etc. All her demands were denied.

DebinNC

Sorry, Clarice. I was typing about that and missed your post.

narciso

Interesting how you have to put the coathor in the search queue along with Krashaar to have that piece pop up, that's a regex thing I'm sure.

rse

For JOM's reading pleasure, LUN is Orwell's essay.

DebinNC

WaPo election blog has a glowing piece on Kraushaar which begins with her claiming she never wanted to go public, but a news organization called her yesterday, so she's reluctantly speaking now. But it ends with:

"Last Thursday, Kraushaar read a statement in a senior staff meeting [in Obama's Treasury Dept.] telling colleagues [fellow Obama appointees] that she was the woman accusing Cain of sexual harassment, according to the source. During the meeting, Kraushaar asked colleagues not to discuss the matter publicly, but said she wanted them to know about it. [I bet she did]."

narciso

And in the good deed does unpunished department;

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-09/arizona-senate-s-immigration-law-author-pearce-loses-in-recall-election.html

DebinNC

ABC reports Kraushaar claims Cain could be characterized as "a monster", but provides zip, zero, nada news of what he supposedly did or said to her.

DebinNC

ABC: "Bennett said he did not want to characterize "what was physical and what was verbal," but that Cain's behavior "qualified as sexual harassment in our opinion."

Bennett was Kraushaar's attorney then too.

narciso

Like I pointed out last week, Bennett is one the tops in his field, the fact he could only wring nominal sums out of the NRA, indicates he had 'blanks'

Captain Hate

I got a headache reading that article narc, although I think it explains McCain's continued existence in office.

If maryrose reads this, Fishers was very nice. It doesn't have the largest menu selection in the world but everything was very well prepared and not pricey at all.

narciso

So Vorstedt, that's the way I'll dub the Schmidt like weasel who sabotaged Kasich's initiative, he's an improvement on Brunner, but only in the sense that mange is better
than smallpox.

Captain Hate

So McCain is talking about people forming a "Fed Up party" and being sympathetic to it? That's comedy club material; not particularly good material but delivered by a guy who has needed to get the hook for decades.

narciso

We already have a third force, it's called the Tea Party, Cthluthu level facepalm. You know Jane's original thought doesn't seem to
out of it.

narciso

Reagan said 'you tax what you want less of'
can't they get that through their 'thick skulls of mush'

Latest on Jim Ryan's link to the Virginia Elections says the following on the super close 17th District:

"Final Election Night Update (12:44 a.m.): Associated Press has called all races except SD 17. Control of Senate hangs in balance. Provisional ballots to be counted Wednesday."

narciso

Duke and Duke got a stronger dollop of Grey Poupon:

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/192569-sen-cornyn-holder-failed-to-acquit-himself-on-fast-and-furious

Jim Ryan

GOP picked up more Va House seats yesterday, too. The recount will probably take a week, so we won't know whether the GOP has taken the Senate for a while.

Jim Ryan

If Senate is split 20-20, look for a very contentious Va lieutenant governer's race in 2014 because the LG has tie-breaking Senate vote.

narciso

You mean 2013, since they occur on odd numbered years,

daddy

Here's the AP story on Cain Accuser Karen Kraushaar.

Compare these 2 paragraphs from the story:

1) "To settle the complaint at the immigration service, Kraushaar initially demanded thousands of dollars in payment..."

2) "Kraushaar said Tuesday she did not remember details about the complaint and did not remember asking for a payment..."

Can you say liar?

Manuel Transmission

ManTran - Michael Webert WON!!!
Yea!!

BTW Mrs. M/T has some Williamson blood in her tribe.

daddy

More from the AP story:

1) "To settle the complaint at the immigration service, Kraushaar initially demanded thousands of dollars in payment, a reinstatement of leave she used after the accident earlier in 2002, promotion on the federal pay scale and a one-year fellowship to Harvard's Kennedy School of Government...The promotion itself would have increased her annual salary between $12,000 and $16,000..."

2) "Kraushaar told the AP she considered her employment complaint "relatively minor" and she later dropped it."

"relatively minor?" Geez.

And we're supposed to believe her over Herman Cain.

narciso

Seriously what was the logic, here:

https://reason.com/blog/2011/11/08/dc-circuit-judge-acknowledges-discomfort

daddy

You hire a Lawyer and win $45,000 in a complaint suit in 1999.

4 Years later you rehire the same Lawyer and file another complaint, seeking many many more thousands of dollars in payments, yet then you tell us you can't remember asking for payment.

Seriously, this woman is nuts.

narciso

You know what this sounds like, daddy, our
favorite Falalel lady.

daddy

Good. It's not just me that thinks she's crazy.

Jane

Oh she is crazy. Someone told her early on to game the system and she's been doing it her whole life. What is she, 55?

DebinNC

"Kraushaar's complaint at the immigration service prompted managers to use caution when writing and speaking to Kraushaar while the complaint was being investigated, another former supervisor told the AP. Two supervisors said Kraushaar asked a colleague to act as a witness when she had conversations with one manager after she filed her complaint."

She's scary too. No wonder she can proudly show AP 7 glowing letters of recommendation from terrified former bosses who must have wanted her gone asap.

narciso

Like I say, none of this is new and this has
the signs of Pete Rouse's ascendancy, this is who I was referring to, in the LUN, notice some of the insanity going on up there on some of the links.

Stephanie

Anyone notice the post on Drudge that David Gregory was lamenting this morning that the republicans don't have a 'GRAND WIZARD' to force Cain out?

Racists we much?

Clarice I think this needs to be spread far and wide. We can't have closet racists in the media calling for a 'high tech lynching' by a 'grand wizard' on live TV.

Too bad Bobbie Byrd isn't around anymore... oh wait.

LUN

daddy

Imagine the ludicrousness of her maintaining that she can't remember if she asked for payments.

"Hi Laywer Bennett. This is Karen Kraushaar. Remember how you helped me get $45,000 4 years ago in that harassment complaint?"

"Yeah, I remember Karen."

"Well I've got a new complaint. Are you available?"

"Sure Karen. What are we asking for this time."

"Oh I don't want any payment this time...Hello?...Hello?...Is this line dead?...Hello?...Hello"

narciso

I knowe it was too early in the morning, for Dave to use that fancy French patois he ridiculed W for not knowing, like 'eminence
gris'

caro

Oh,I hope Porch and Mrs. M/T are my sisters.

Janet

From Stephanie's link Gregory speaking - "There may be cracks in the foundation according to pollsters I'm talking to,..."
bold mine. Who David???
Like when he said prominent Israelis supported Obama's speech, but he couldn't name one.

narciso

He could have mentioned Yossi Beilin, among some, the Oslo negotiator who hasn't yet figured out he 'chose poorly' but that would
have been beside the point,

daddy

"Two supervisors said Kraushaar asked a colleague to act as a witness when she had conversations with one manager after she filed her complaint."

I wish she'd appear on Anderson Cooper's show and that he'd let drop his favorite slur against the Tea Party---"Tea Baggers".

She'd sue him in a heartbeat for sexual harassment.

And Win.

Enlightened

"Kraushaar gives her own explanation for why that was the case. "The reason sexual harassment is so difficult to prove is that workplace sexual predators try to make sure the victim is alone when the harassment takes place," Kraushaar said. "The incidents in question occurred many years ago, but corroboration may still be possible with respect to some of the incidents, and in some cases it may even be possible to find witnesses."

Oh brother. She is lying. She was alone, there was no corroboration. And NOW she thinks she can find a witness?????? Same story as Bialek.

Did she also work at NRA in Chicago? Are each of these claims linked to Chicago in some way? And all took place between 1997 and 1999? I would dearly like to know if any of these accusers are/were aquaintances.

And how many of them knew of Bennett the attorney during the time period?

Enlightened

Hmmm - Is it true that Bialek was fired from the NRA Educational position because she FALSELY claimed Sexual Harassment against a coworker there? I saw something on Freepers that said that.....

Seriously? Her and Kraushaar are the two women that will come forward at a presser? Neither one of them is credible in any way - they both appear to be money grubbers that use the system.....

And then on the other hand - Cain needs to fire Block - Now.

SWarren

Hmm. I’m thinking Kraushaar may be the one complainant that Cain says he knows about. The one he compared to his wife’s height. I read that she suffers from scoliosis which I believe causes bending or shrinking of the spine??

There was a gesture that was not sexual in nature but was offensive to the complainant.

So Cain’s hand below the chin gesture was taken as making fun of her impairment???
