Belated Happy Birthday, Tom!

Thanks for a wonderful blog!

What's the JOM record?

Jack is Back!

Up in the 800's IIRC.

DOT-- I agree with your thoughts on the MANDATE and why it is constitutioally different than State auto insurance laws and Medicare. The BIGGEST difference from state auto insurance (state police power v commerce clause power aside) is that the MANDATE is akin to forcing people WITHOUT a car to by auto insurance products in order to reduce car owner rates. Constitutionally grotesque.

Daddy-- thanks again for the Osaka photos. Osaka-- great airport, love Osaka Castle, sleepy town compared to Tokyo -- But Kyoto's a short rail ride away! Apologies I didn't realize you were a long haul airline pilot. You guys are the best.

Regards, all (even you Benji)

A nice review of what is at stake in the Walker recall. "Walker Stands with Me"

It's the 'Bella Swan let me give you some of my blood' strategy, that always works, Capt. I would suspect Beeks, would have them blackmailed, in order to do this, but sigh
I don't think he needs to.

Danube of Thought

A rollicking -24 at Raz today.

Great news!

From the never would have guessed column.

"The indictment alleges that these crimes were done in secret in order to avoid detection."

A rollicking -24 at Raz today.

Must've been those Drudge pics.

Those Drudge pictures ought to push it to about -98.

Conrad Black at NRO has this bracer for those of you inclined towards DOOM as a philosophy:

"I do not believe that this administration can be reelected. It is so unrelievedly incompetent that its fecklessness is more a matter of sadness and embarrassment than of the rage that engulfed George W. Bush.”

Anyone care to disagree?

DOT- one thing to watch at Raz, as 'Bam goes hard Left for the election his STRONG APPROVAL will increase to 22-25% consistently, as the far Lefties comes back to strong approval. His strong DISAPPROVAL will rise, but not as much. His net negative # will range between 16-22%, and his overall approval will be 42-45%. His Strong DISAAPROVAL will be at 41-45%. What will make 'Bam a loser in 2012 is the STRONG DISapproval. The Repub will start with a 42-43% BASE of voter support. 'Bam's BASE will be at 33% TOPS. That leaves 25% of the electorate up for grabs, mostly indie voters. My guess is that splits evenly. 'Bam loses by 6-9% depending on turnout. WILDCARD-- that would be one Ron Paul.

Well, this is interesting. It sounds like Russian Intel fears Assad may be losing control of things in Syria:

Syria conflict 'similar to civil war', Russia says

Russia's foreign minister has said the situation in Syria is beginning to resemble civil war, after renegade soldiers attacked a key army base.

Sergei Lavrov said all countries hoping for a peaceful solution in Syria must call on all parties to end the violence

This kind of call for an end to the use of force by all sides usually indicates the side calling for it is losing.

And in today's blinding statement of the obvious:

Turkey has criticised the global response to Syria, saying it is being overlooked because it is not wealthy.

Too bad the Syrians don't have oil they could sell cheap to the European.

No NATO air support for you!

Responsibility to Protect only extends to those people who's countries can provide cheap oil to Europe to help them stay afloat through Nov. 2012 and get Barry over this little "tought patch."

The record is over 1000, because PUK, narciso, and I shoved it over one dull, wine-soaked evening (at least I was soaked, can't speak for the others)

Indys will not split evenly. They have not done so in any election anywhere since Scott Brown and nothing is going to change, the election is basically cast as Obama had the option but declined to moderate and instead polarized the electorate. Despite the OWS, Zero got the smaller piece. The electorate on many issues is 60 to 65 % against. He is in distinct and definite danger of exceeding the electoral futility on a percentage of the electorate basis, of George McGovern.

--I apologize then, although this is a major change from what you had to say the last time around.--

I don't believe I've ever criticized Romney personally. One wife, bunch of kids, good family man; what's to criticize?
My two concerns have always been his tendency to flip flop and the not unrelated fear that he will prove a mushy middle of the road wimp who will squander a chance, maybe the last one, to begin rolling back the welfare state before it destroys the country.
A third one which has become more prominent lately is whether he can effectively parry the undoubted attacks in the general election that will accuse him of being a rich, rapacious, hedge-fund, bully, evil, capitalist roader.
Now it should be easy to keep the election focus on a 1.5trillion dollar deficit or a 15trillion dollar debt but if the election becomes instead about a 250million dollar fortune he's going to have a problem.

And Ron Paul in a national election cant get on most state ballots and pulled a miserable 1% overall perhaps a share less. There are only so many geeky males sitting in mom's basement afraid to speak to a female unless its in a chat room, to make much difference.

Once Axelrod gets to work on Romney, we'll be commenting how well Romney has been able to hide his tail and horns.

Benjamin Franklin

Apparently, the demonstrators chided Rove for being complicit in occupying Irag, and the Constitutional scholar responded...

“Who gave you the right to occupy America?”

Benjamin Franklin

Well, we have our share of scum-bags; so should you...

"Hours after Pennsylvania State Police arrested a 21-year-old Idaho man for allegedly firing a semi-automatic rifle at the White House, the top student official for the College Republicans at the University of Texas tweeted that the idea of assassinating President Obama was “tempting.”

At 2:29 p.m. ET, UT’s Lauren E. Pierce wrote: “Y’all as tempting as it may be, don’t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had! #2012.”
Pierce, the president of the College Republicans at UT Austin, told ABC News the comment was a “joke” and that the “whole [shooting incident] was stupid.” Giggling, she said that an attempted assassination would “only make the situation worse.”
“Insofar as she’s a representative [of the College Republicans], maybe it shouldn’t be said, but she’s made a positive statement in a way, ” said Cassie Wright, the group’s vice president.

RichatUF/GMax-- I think the 25% indies split evenly because, indies total about 35% of the electorate, the Repubs 43% base will include about 12% (right leaning) indies, leaving 25% squishy moderate indies, I that that group of indies splits evenly, all told Repub wins 60-65% of all indies, and 52-54% of total votes.
RichatUF-- interestingly Axelrod's scortched earth campaign will solidify Romeny's 43% base, and get 'Bam to a split of squishy indies -- Romney get's 52-54%- IF NO PAUL. Paul steals votes from the 43% base.

Rick Ballard

John Anderson helped Carter more than Ron Paul would help Obama. Obama isn't as intelligent, competent or likable as the blundering halfwit Carter so ...

RB-- w/0 Anderson Reagan wins 54-55% of the popular vote; the Repub in 2012 will come close to that w/o Paul. Electoral Votes 'Bam will get a least 165, because Mass, NY and Calif are now forever Blue, because all clear thinkers have left those states -- amazing Carter only got what 49 and LOST all three of those states.

"The record is over 1000"

Way back when, I think we got past 1400 discussing John Kerry's magic hat. And swiftboats.

Melinda Romanoff

Pre-me, cool!

"The record is over 1000"
There was a Christmas that I remember where Tom didn't put up a new thread for about a week, and I thought we were closer to 2000. I remember this because back then Firefox wouldn't load such a long thread, and that's when I started using Opera.
