Sue

My facebook status at 9:00 this morning:

The choices for person of the year included SEAL Team 6, the special forces team that killed bin Laden. Admiral William H. McRaven, the man who coordinated the mission, was runner up. And Time chose those stinking, nasty protesters. I knew there was a reason I don't waste my time on Time magazine. Go SEALs! You are indeed my person of the year!!!!!

narciso

The Seals were not 'the reason I got into politics' Sue, they were 'Cheney's death squad,' not that long ago.

narciso

As someone else pointed out, Mohammed Bouazzi
who really took his life into his hands, not
the hangers on who came later,

Ignatz

If they trace it back to the Arab Sprung shouldn't their POTY on the cover have been a big smiling portrait of Muhammad?
Oh wait.

Captain Hate

It's like Eric Stoltz never left. Downtwinkles for them.

Jane

How about Laura Logan?

Captain Hate

Btw, in the Time text is there any mention of what a cowardly POS Il Douche was regarding the Iranian protestors and Neda?

narciso

Well it's good to know, Spy Magazine wasn't a total loss, that's where Andersen started out.

Janet

Yeah Jane, great point...how about Laura Logan?

Danube of Thought

far outlasted its expected shelf life.

Expected by whom?

Benjamin Franklin

Dirty f***ing Hippies. It's not enough they smell up the Haight.

Now their shite is festooning our penthouses.

'Off with their heads!'.

Dave (in MA)
How about Laura Logan?
My cuppa C8H10N4O2 hadn't kicked in yet so I don't recall who it was, but someone on Boston talk radio mentioned the same thing this AM.
narciso

Just months before the decisive event;

Neo

What ? What ??
You mean "The Won" isn't the most important person this year ?

Ignatz

Do they give POTY posthumously?
If so we may look back at Brian Terry as POTY for 2011 if that bum Holder gets his just desserts.

Benjamin Franklin

McChrystal may not be Opus Dei (Gingrich?) but he is a shameless
bureaucrat and co-conspirator in the Pat Tillman matter.

As to Hersh; when everyone is screaming that you're wrong, you may be on to something.

henry

Walker to speak at CPAC. That will be mid February as recall signatures are verified.

Jack is Back! (The Anti-Prick)

Can the Nobel Peace Prize be far away for the protestors?

If Arafat, Peres and Rabin can share one for doing f**k-all then why not have OWS, The Tea Party and Arab Fail also share one. Hell, I'll even take one.

Sue is right SEAL DevGru should be the logical choice but that wouldn't be able to fit the Time narrative and agenda.

[Sue, not called SEAL Team 6 even when they went in. I think it was 2009 they lost that designation, but don't tell BiteMe.]

House of Cards....

http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/noquarter/new-development-in-john-doe-investigation-of-walker-0q3ediu-135554238.html

"Another major shoe has dropped in the John Doe investigation of Gov. Scott Walker's current and former aides.

On Tuesday, authorities arrested Andrew P. Jensen Jr., a commercial real estate broker with Boerke Co. and a past president of the Commercial Association of Realtors-Wisconsin.

Fran McLaughlin, spokesman for Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr., confirmed that Jensen was behind bars Tuesday night. But McLaughlin said no one had filed a criminal complaint against the 50-year-old Milwaukee resident.

The sheriff's website states that charges are pending against Jensen.

Attempts to reach Jensen or his lawyer were unsuccessful.

Jensen was a minor contributor to Walker's gubernatorial campaign, donating $850. Boerke Co. employees gave a total of $12,150.

Insiders told No Quarter that he was arrested after refusing to cooperate with the long-running John Doe investigation by Milwaukee County prosecutors.

Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf declined to discuss the matter late Tuesday.

"I have no comment," Landgraf said.

The arrest represents a new direction and development in the secret probe of Walker's staff while he was county executive and as governor.

John Doe investigations are secret proceedings in which witnesses can be subpoenaed and compelled to testify under oath about potential criminal matters and are forbidden from talking publicly about the case.

Prosecutors launched the investigation in May 2010 - around the time Darlene Wink left her county job as Walker's constituent services coordinator. She quit shortly after admitting that she had frequently posted political comments online on Journal Sentinel stories and blogs while on the county clock.

Authorities later took her work computer and executed a search warrant of her home in August 2010. They also took the work computer of Tim Russell, a former Walker campaign staffer who was then working as county housing director.

Sources have told the Journal Sentinel that the probe, which initially looked at campaign activity by Walker staffers, has moved in a number of directions since then.

The long-simmering investigation boiled over publicly in September when a dozen FBI agents and other law enforcement officials raided the Madison home of Cindy Archer, a key Walker aide at the county and the state.

Sue

Jack,

I know. DevGru. I like Team 6 better. Don't bite me. ::grin::

Thomas Collins

Not much makes me feel old. For example, when my oldest child got married, I felt young. It took me back to my young adulthood. However, this makes me feel old. I remember when Time's Man of the Year or Woman of the Year or Person of the Year or Whatever of the Year, and the accompanying article, was an eagerly awaited event and was taken seriously. That seems like centuries ago! I actually think that Hef's Playmate of the Year is now taken more seriously than Time's Whatever of the Year offering!

centralcal

On Twitter, Brett Baier is being asked to include Fast and Furious in the debate questioning tomorrow night. Bob Owens is particularly persistent in this.

I think if the question is phrased right, it could give our side a chance to express the outrage over what Holder has done. What do you all think?

NK

What's Time Magazine? Seriously, is Time now a down market "The Onion."

lyle

Talk about self-defecating humor from Time...wait, they're serious?

centralcal

TC - your comments about the POTY could easily be said about Time magazine itself. It is no longer really relevant.

Thomas Collins

Centralcal, I'd be interested in an open ended question about Holder's tenure at DOJ to see what the candidates think is most in need of changing at DOJ.

Captain Hate

I actually think that Hef's Playmate of the Year is now taken more seriously than Time's Whatever of the Year offering!

Was it a Playmate of the Year that dumped that senile fool Hef at the altar "adult" movie and marriage license printing emporium? If so she'd get my vote.

Thomas Collins

My preferred debate format would be a lefty and a righty blogger whom I respect asking the questions. For example, I think TM and Jeralyn Merritt asking the questions at a debate would be far more interesting than what we're getting now.

bgates

In other news, Gabe Naspinski took Best Lifter at last February's Orlando Barbell meet, and Haverford fifth-grader Marco Rodriguez of Bryn Mawr was recognized as Most Improved, ice hockey.

The difference between the subject of this post and the subjects of this comment is, the latter awards recognized real merit which was achieved through real effort.

Danube of Thought

Stop the presses:

Actor Gary Busey is withdrawing his endorsement of Newt Gingrich for president. ''It is not time for me to be endorsing anyone at this time! When there are the two final candidates, then I will endorse,'' Busey said Wednesday in a statement released through his representative. Busey endorsed the former speaker's presidential campaign on Saturday in an exclusive interview with The Hill. ''I've never met Newt but I know what he stands for,'' Busey said. Asked why Busey was withdrawing his endorsement, the actor's spokesman said Busey ''likes'' Gingrich but ''he is not endorsing anyone at this time.''
Captain Hate

Gary Busey is the first person I'd think of when casting for a movie that has a role of somebody completely unlikeable for which the audience will applaud when he suffers the most graphically excruciating death possible.

Jane

Dave,

Laura Logan was the American reporter who got gang raped in Egypt during the Arab spring.

Captain Hate

Yes, Laura Logan got gang-raped by Time's men of the year.

Thomas Collins

I've got it! The perfect debate format! TM and Jeralyn ask the questions on Jane's TV show, and then Jane and Dick provide commentary after the debate!

Jack is Back! (The Anti-Prick)

There is no way you can tell if anyone is Opus Dei since there is no directory. Also, if you are Opus Dei, you don't discuss it. I doubt McChrystal or Gingrich are Opus Dei since it does require a certain amount of personal commitment to its ideals.

Jane

How about this:

There are still many things we do not know about Fast and Furious, most notably who ordered it. We do however know that at least one and perhaps 2 border guards were murdered with guns that walked on the orders of someone in our government, along with many Mexican citizens.

If the orders are traced to Eric Holder and/ or President Obama, what should Congress do about it?

Janet

Gary Busey was in that anti-Semitic movie "Valley of the Wolves".

"The bad guys were played by B-listers Billy Zane, as a US commander, and Gary Busey, as a Jewish US army doctor involved in organ trafficking."

bold mine. A big hit in Turkey.

centralcal

Excellent question, Jane. Too long to send to him via twitter, but I think Baier has a blog - I am gonna check.

daddy

JimmyK, Melinda, et al Financial guys.

Here's a rookie question.

If we assume Corzine was engaged in criminality, from your guys perspective, do you think that

1) he thought he wouldn't get caught because his gambles would pay off, or do you think he foresaw what has actually happened and

2) figured he could beat the system with Obama/Holder having his back and claiming ignorance?

I have no idea but just thought I'd toss this out there for your guys speculation, and this instant have to dash off to a Cambridge Pub, so thanks in advance if you guys choose to speculate. Ciao!

NK

Who's Gary Busey? BTW-- I see where the Speaker of the House issued an invitation to the POTUS to deliver a SOTUA January 24th. Why? There's nothing in the Constitution about a speech, why not just deliver a written statement? I mean that seriously and not just as a knock on Obama. Let's ditch this stupid tradition that now does more harm than good.

NK

Daddy-- my guess? big shot Corzine thought he was smarter and more connected than the market. Obviously in hindsight that was delusional.

Cambridge Mass. or UK?

Dave (in MA)

Jane, I know. What I couldn't recall what which show I heard it on. It would have been either Dennis&The Forehead, The Felon & Avi or Katz.

Charlie (Colorado)

As to Hersh; when everyone is screaming that you're wrong, you may be on to something.

On the other hand, when you've been caught in repeated lies, prevarications, and occasional plagiarism, you might just be wrong.

Captain Hate

Who's Gary Busey?

He's been in a ton of movies where he invariably plays a prick who's also a borderline retard. The only movie that comes to mind in "Under Siege", which is coincidentally probably the only Steven Seagal movie that wasn't a complete waste of time. Busey plays a villain who's also a goofball. Tommy Lee Jones is another bad guy but at least he effectively plays somebody smart but twisted. As a bonus, there's a pre-Pam Anderson hawt Baywatch babe who shows her cans during one climb out of a birthday cake scene.

Sue

I wish Drudge would take the picture down of the TPOY defecating on the police car. It makes me ill.

Ignatz

I thought he did a pretty good job in the Buddy Holly flick.

Melinda Romanoff

daddy-

He thought the Fed would bail out the EU AND that he would get bailed out if wrong.

Plus, Holder would never allow a prosecution of him go forward.

So, yes. E: A, B, C, AND D. All of the above.

Sue

I was going to say he played Buddy Holly and was pretty good. He was also in Lethal Weapon. I think he plays the crazy pretty well.

lyle

"the Obama campaign was in part a feel-good protest movement that galvanized young people, and then its shocking success..."

Yep, just stright line reporting, right there.

Sue

I do not care which celebrity endorses a candidate. If I like the celebrity and I like the candidate I might say awesome, but I won't change my vote because someone I like doesn't like my candidate, or someone I don't like does.

Melinda Romanoff

Good Drudge, right now.

lyle

Oops. Toss an 'a' in there for me.

Captain Hate

I never saw the Buddy Holly flick; wow that was a long time ago before teh crazy took hold. Looking it up @ IMDB I don't recognize any other names in it.

Clarice

CHACO:"On the other hand, when you've been caught in repeated lies, prevarications, and occasional plagiarism, you might just be wrong.

Especially when you openly admit you sometimes lie for the sake of a good story.

Sue

If I'm remembering Busey correctly, he was pretty talented as a musician. I'm not sure when the crazy took hold.

Sen. Boxer Warns EPA Provision in GOP Tax Cut Bill Will Lead to Thousands of Deaths

Sen. Barbara Boxer warned Tuesday that more than 8,000 people will die every year if Congress passes the Republican-backed payroll tax cut bill -- because it includes a provision that would delay regulations on industrial boilers.
Rick Ballard

daddy,

Mel has it but I'd really like to know why he thought the EUtopians would discover a pot of OPM large enough to save the dying euro. The Fed did provide enough liquidity to draw out the euro death throes a bit longer but even Mad Ben isn't crazy enough to print in order to monetize EUtopian debt.

It's as if Corzine had hired Underpants Gnomes Ltd. as a financial adviser.

Melinda Romanoff

Sue-

Decades of alcohol and blow, then a bad motorcycle spill, helmetless, laid him up for a long, long time. More drugs there and then sudden sobriety. Brain injuries are difficult to recover from when chemically stewed.

NK

RickB-- as I said -- in hindsight Corzine and the MF board were delusional.

Melinda Romanoff

Rick-

Biden was advising him, no doubt.

macphisto

Gary Busey was always a bit of a whackball. after he rose to fame, he was in a motorcycle accident back in the 80s or 90s which resulted in severe head injuries--if you look at him now it's obvious that one side of his face was reconstructed--and had severe addiction problems afterwards. i'm kind of inclined to cut him some slack on "Valley of the Wolves" because since his disfigurement and other problems his acting career has been so meager that he was most recently prominent as one of the cast members/figures of fun on TruTV's "World's Dumbest." when you're an actor with half a face, you take work where you can get it, you know?

Sue

Mel,

I figured drugs were involved but I don't remember the motorcycle wreck.

more than 8,000 people will die every year if Congress passes the Republican-backed payroll tax cut bill

Sen. Barbara Boxer shocked many by announcing her opposition to a Republican bill which would, according to her own party's methodology, save or create the lives of more than 300 million people....

Appalled

We interrupt this discussion of Gary Busey for a query, based on the following:

Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the influential Budget Committee chairman, has kept his distance from the GOP primary. But after reading Newt Gingrich’s latest comments about entitlement reform, he says the contenders must seriously address the debt crisis, not play political games. In an interview with Coffee & Markets, Gingrich said that Republicans should not “impose” solutions that are “very, very unpopular.” Ronald Reagan, he noted, “ran to be a popular president, not to maximize suicide.” In order to “govern over the long run,” leaders need “the American people [to] think you’re doing a good job and think you’re doing what they want,” he continued. Ryan, in an interview with National Review Online, says that he disagrees with Gingrich, and urges Republicans to confront fiscal problems, irrespective of political risk. Worrying about electoral “suicide,” he says, is a disservice to voters, “who don’t want to be pandered to like children.” “This is not the 1990s,” Ryan says. “The ‘Mediscare’ is not working and we should not back down from this fight. I, for one, believe the country is ready, they’re hungry for it. They are ready to hear real solutions. We shouldn’t wait around for the status quo to become popular.” “Leaders don’t follow the polls, leaders change the polls,” Ryan says. “We have moved so far in advancing entitlement reform, not just in Congress but in this [presidential] race, with most of the candidates embracing comprehensive entitlement reform. That has been a very good thing. At this point, we should be moving forward, not moving backwards.”
(Source Linked LUN)

If you all really think entitlements and spending are the problem with Washington, why are so many of you here backing this guy? Were you unaware of Gingrich's budgetary heresies?

narciso

I don't thinking he's acting, most of the time, he's being Gary Busey,

Jonah Goldberg had an amusing take on John Sununu being deployed against Gingrich, he likened it to Inigo Montoya 'you destroyed
my boss's Presidency, prepare to die,'

boris

WRT entitlements he guy to the right of Newt is Perry, who appalls you also.

Backing Newt is probably the wrong term for "preferable to Mitt".

boris

* the guy *

narciso

He was acting pretty crazy in LW, but it manifested itself more fully after this

On December 4, 1988, Busey was severely injured in a motorcycle accident in which he was not wearing a helmet. His skull was fractured, and doctors feared he suffered permanent brain damage.[16]

Jane

Backing Newt is probably the wrong term for "preferable to Mitt".

Exactly. I think his support comes from the hope that he will actually raise the issues important to us, and fight back on the lies that the Obama administration puts out there. I would expect Newt to respond to the BS Obama hurls daily. I would never expect Romney to.

Extraneus
Boxer's press conference was not the first time a lawmaker has warned of the mortal effects of legislation. During the health care overhaul debate, then-Rep. Alan Grayson, R-Fla., took to the floor to warn that the Republican plan is for Americans to "die quickly."
No lie, FoxNews.com actually wrote R-Fla.

Charlie - a cascade of uptwinkles for dealing with Hersh. Clarice is correct in reminding us of his confession about his truth and fabrication.

narciso

Sy Hersh was an easy mark for the likes of 'self proclaimed' superspy Ari Ben Benashe,

centralcal

Extraneus - that wasn't FNC's only flub. Today they had a photo of Obama instead of Romney in a poll graphic. Yikes.

This is a good sum up of Hersh's reporting;

Melinda Romanoff

I'm surprised no one's brought up the Chinese Tarriffs on US assembled autos story, yet.

Thomas Collins

Appalled, one main reason. In my opinion, Gingrich's signature legislative accomplishment was welfare reform (I don't think Slick Bill would have pushed welfare reform if he hadn't been pushed by Gingrich), and Romney's was MittCare. My assessment is that Gingrich is more likely to get done what needs to be accomplished.

Melinda Romanoff

I see Holder's speech, today, is getting some traction.

Porchlight

From everything I've read after the initial reporting which was incomplete, Lara Logan was not gang-raped but sexually assaulted, which as I understand it stops short of rape. She was also beaten. Her rescuers were actually women.

It was a terrible thing that happened to her and I don't mean to diminish it - I am only mentioning this for sake of accuracy.

narciso

A little authenticity is required for that cover;

Game on for the trade war! The PRC has the Communist Party - we've got Obama? Were do we sign the instrumrnt of surrender?

centralcal

That was my understanding, too, Porch. But I never heard Lara speak in the first person about it, so I thought maybe additional information had come to the fore.

centralcal

Is this tendency of Romney in primaries that just turns me off to him:

jaketapper Jake Tapper
Romney tells Hannity that Gingrich shouldnt have mentioned the $10K bet "given a $500,000 bill at Tiffany's" !!!

Porchlight

centralcal, I believe she was interviewed on 60 Minutes back in May and described what happened. Because a few months passed between the incident and her first public discussion of it, I think the more violent version of events became the established one.

Ignatz

I may be the last to know, as usual, but here is a definitive video by one of the Occupy Portland geeks explaining the up twinkles/down twinkles, plus four or five more retarded new dictates and conformities demanded by the free wheeling anarchists.

Cecil Turner

If you all really think entitlements and spending are the problem with Washington, why are so many of you here backing this guy? Were you unaware of Gingrich's budgetary heresies?

Newt can claim a major role in the one major successful entitlement reform (welfare) and the one time in modern history we balanced the budget. I'm not sure if this is intentionally unserious, but if not . . .

Let's just say there's gotta be a better anti-Newt screed out there.

Cecil Turner

Oh, yeah, throw in a "point of order" and "downtwinkles."

centralcal

According to Jim Geraghty, tomorrow the editors of Washington Examiner will endorse Romney.

Ignatz

--Oh, yeah, throw in a "point of order"--

I think that's "point of process" Cecil, "order" being a major down twinkle amongst the New Order.

Jack is Back! (The Anti-Prick)

New Newtmark:

Today Rush noted that in a recent book Newt wrote that he was impressed with Andy Stern as the kind of labor leader we need for a new century or something to that effect.

Now, of course, every candidate has one person who's job it is to listen to Rush for the full 3 hours, and Newt's got to Snerdly immediately to say that Newt was now not a Sternite and that Stern pulled a fast one on Newt. Rush is now noting that Bachman, Santorum and Perry still have a chance for the true conservative. He is really perplexed by Newt calling FDR the greatest president of the century by noting that Ronaldus Maximus was also president in the 20th Century.

Hmmmm. Could there actually be a fourth rising anti-Romney candidate to take over for Newt?

Jane

I see Holder's speech, today, is getting some traction.

Good traction or bad traction?

Romney tells Hannity that Gingrich shouldnt have mentioned the $10K bet "given a $500,000 bill at Tiffany's" !!!

Romney should shut up. Class warfare is very unbecoming.

Cecil Turner

I think that's "point of process" Cecil . . .

Damn. I suck at hand talking. [I knew I was making that triangle thingie too pointy.]

Danube of Thought

Here it is mid-afternoon of a Wednesday, and the sudden recollection of the Eagle Feather brought an immediate smile to my face.

Jim Miller

Captain Hate - I don't know whether Crystal Harris was Playmate of the Year. But I was so charmed by her explanation of the break-up that I have to share it, again:

'I wasn't the only woman in Hef's life.  I didn't feel comfortable in my heart knowing that and getting married to him, because a marriage is between two people.'

As I said back in June: What clued her in? What made her suspect that Hefner was not monogamous?

Porchlight

Romney should shut up. Class warfare is very unbecoming.

Especially when he's by far the richer man of the two.

They need to get off this stupid topic and go after Obama. The person who does that most convincingly will win Iowa.
