In the news:
Heart Surgery Is Planned for Edwards; Trial Delayed
Subsequent trial delays will be attributed to "conscience surgery" and "judgment surgery".

Cue up the lawyer heart transplant jokes.
As an aside, I had redo coronary by-pass surgery in Feb 1991 to correct a "life threatening" heart condition. I tried a four day construction arbitration case in the first week of April. Johnny should be ready for trial on that March 23 trial date.

Shouldn't Rielle be able to cure him with crystals and other new agey stuff? What are the chances of Silky finding a surgeon whose malpractice insurance isn't significantly higher because of him and his ilk. Maybe he can trust the company doctor at The Mill.

OT-I finished James Delingpole's Watermelons. For those like Jane, Janet, or MT who have run into Agenda 21 or are concerned with it, I think he does a good job there.
He also does a nice job of explaining why no amount of adverse evidence seems to stop the Climate Change express.
He's a bit verbose but some of that may simply be how he decided to approach the idea that when push comes to shove he was clearly dealing with an openly declared conspiracy in fact. He seems to be ambivalent about starting a shift in the Western conception of what drives Mikhail Gorbachev, but believes the evidence is overwhelming. I think most of us want to see him as rejecting socialism as unworkable rather than in search of a better vehicle.
It's definitely a good place to gain as much working knowledge as a typical skeptic will need in everyday life. And Delingpole does try to keep it light.

CBS doing some real reporting? When you have lost CBS, Zero you are in danger of being down to the Nation and MoveOn. Here:
CBS News' Sharyl Attkisson takes a look at 11 more Solyndras that were part of Obama's Energy program. Attkisson was one of the original reporters that uncovered the Solyndra scandal.
CBS News counted 12 clean energy companies that are having trouble after collectively being approved for more than $6.5 billion in federal assistance. Five have filed for bankruptcy: The junk bond-rated Beacon, Evergreen Solar, SpectraWatt, AES' subsidiary Eastern Energy and Solyndra.

Seriously. Do you think it a good idea to have prosecutors deciding what candidates can spend non-campaign (taxed as gifts) funds on? Mucking about their personal lives when there's no federal or state law governing such expenditures?
Forget this is Edwards. Pretend it's a candidate you support.

James Taranto calls Bullschmidt on mostly the Associated Press for their selective reporting of the recent PHEW polling:
The perception of “class conflict” has grown because the media have paid the putative conflict so much attention. They have done so in part for ideological reasons–lefty journalists have had a weird preoccupation with “income inequality” for as long as we can remember–but also in part because it’s newsworthy, especially when the president of the United States is trying to foment class war.
It would also be newsworthy if he succeeded–and that is the story the AP is trying to peddle. But Pew’s findings show it is a phony war. If underlying “tensions between rich and poor” were really rising, the survey would have found some evidence of actual hardening of attitudes across socioeconomic lines.
Sucks for Zero that he is not competent even as a demogogue.
Posted by: Gmax | January 14, 2012 at 01:45 PM

Gmax:

Sharyl Attkisson has been doing real reporting for CBS for years -- back to the 2008 election.
She's the one who first exposed Obama as (Would-be) President Goldman Sachs.
Not that it did much good back then,of course. Maybe there are other mainstream journalists these days besides Sharyl whom Obama has lost. Examples would be reassuring.

Ace put something up this week that is quite on point:
Vote for the candidate who appeals to downscale white voters in the middle... even if the candidate in question does not, in fact, appeal at all to downscale white voters in the middle.
It's confusing, but trust us. We've prevailed in two elections or primaries before this year (out of 17), so seriously, we know what we're doing.
That weird, uneasy vibe you get off Romney? Telling you not to trust him? Don't sweat it, we've heard that a million times. And it's just you, anyway. No one else has that, except for everyone else.
And that in no way will play any role in this election. Because this election will be decided on ISSUES and principles. You know-- Romney's strength.
So it's not like that whole lack-of-charisma or can't-identify-with-him-at-all background will hurt him at all. Nope! It's all smooth sailing from here, on principles and ideas, and trust us, we've got big plans to have some of those, sometime down the line.

I don't believe it for a second Mark. Edwards tried personal injury cases. Those all require a doc as an expert witness so he's got a portfolio of people who get paid for giving their opinion. I'd bet dollars to donuts he-who-has-no-ethics hired one of them.

Exactly. Can you imagine what a cruel and inhumane torture it would be to be forced to listed to KPork and her band of think-alike harpies? Here is a likely list of topics:
1. How their husbands are pigs for staring at Sarah Palin.
2. Shoes
3. How Worf is a lot like them
4. Chocolate
5. How mean Client 9 was to Kathleen while secretly fantasizing on him dressed only in black mid-calf socks (::vomit::)
6. Chick flicks
7. Distant memories of PMS
8. How they're all more attractive than Sarah Palin but people have been brainwashed into thinking otherwise
9. More shoes
10. The icky Tea Party

daddy, as you know I'm a big Roy fan but he did something really bad at the end of the game. Leonard Hamilton called time out near the end and told Roy that probably all 14 Criminole fans would rush the court and they could exit now if he wanted to. Roy stuck his walk-ins on the court and his schollie athletes and coaches all left. You win and lose as a team and I don't know wtf Roah was thinking by sticking the guys at the end of the bench in to be dunked on.

DrJ, I don't know if you're still here, but I second the suggestion to try a variety pack. Here are a number of choices from JR Cigar.
I used them to quit cigarettes (for my third and last time) around 16 years ago. One a night, not or hardly inhaled, worked for me, but it took a while to find one that wasn't too harsh or hot or bitter or big or stinky. There's a big difference, even within a brand, due to size and shape.
