" I'm just not buying the fear of a lawsuit gives the nurse the right to assault a father holding his infant."

ASccording to the account I read, the nurse who was knocked down was just reaching over to support the infant's head which was unsupported and swinging back and forth during the exchange.

Daytona 500 postponed to 7pm tonight.

Raining cats and dogs down here but its supposed to subside later this afternoon then they need 2 to 3 hours to dry the track.

Lots of time to get your pizza and beer ready for a prime time race.

Captain Hate

I'm with Iggy: A child snatching of a Kennedy offspring would be the only chance for the child to live up to its full potential without getting mired in substance abuse and a complete lack of values.

jimmyk

The only time I ever did karaoke in a bar I sang "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You." Now I'd probably do some Bobby Vinton or Frankie Valli ("Can't Take My Eyes Off of You"). I still remember that great bar scene in "Deer Hunter."

Cecil Turner

It's almost certain he was told he wasn't supposed to leave with the baby.

What, is it Hospital California? There's little or no doubt he was trying to leave the hospital, and was physically restrained by the nurses. According to the nurse, she called codes for a child abduction and combative patient (no doubt to get physical backup). Problem is, it wasn't a child abduction, and he doesn't need their permission to leave.

GMAX

Quick lets siphon some oil out of the STRATEGIC PETROLEUM Reserve, set up to provide us a buffer against blackmail by an oil tick conspiracy. Most definitely not to improve the rather flaccid reelection changes of the miserable failure incompetent...

clarice feldman

No, he doesn't need their permission to leave. I checked myself out early a couple of times, including with my newborn child, but you have to regularize the leaving by--you know--actually checking out.

Sue

I just saw an advertisement at Huffington Post with Obama, Michelle and their two children. It says "Help the Obamas Stand Up For Working Americans". But their children are off limits. I don't remember the Clintons using Chelsea in advertisements. Do y'all?

The video of the Kennedy situation does not prove much, IMHO. It could be nazi nurses or obnoxious Kennedy "Do you know who I am?" or some combination of both. Audio would have helped...

Cecil Turner

. . . but you have to regularize the leaving by--you know--actually checking out.

No, you don't. And anyway, he wasn't checking out. He was just going for a stroll.

Also, its a RaisingRed.Com production. Is that you rse?

clarice feldman

Cecil, obviously your mileage does vary, but I put myself in the place of a hospital administrator and take the view that no one leaves the floor with a child who has not been checked out and that is the instruction I give to personnel.

Sue

What if the parents are separated? The father is under a restraining order? What if his name hadn't been Kennedy? The hospital has rules and if you don't want to abide by them, find a hospital that allows you to wander around with a newborn. They have all kinds of rules we are asked to abide by. And he probably signed something saying he would when they were admitted.

clarice feldman

I've been scrolling thru hospital rules and regs online and ALL those I see require detailed discharge procedures be followed before a patient leaves the facility.

NK

I know that someone (GMAX) posted this polling data from Gallup. Note that 'Bam is basically stuck at 45-46% amongst all voters and Obamacare is at 44% amongst all voters. It's pretty clear that in 2012 the ABO voter is far more motivated than the Left. I say again, Obama gets 45-45%, and he could lose ALL swing states, and head for an electoral vote landslide. the JWF link: http://www.jammiewf.com/2012/usa-today-poll-both-romney-and-santorum-lead-fading-obama/

Ranger

Well, someone at the RNC is actually on the ball:

Obama Supports High Gas Prices If They're Gradually Hiked

Now, if they can just figure out to match that up with the audio "under my policies, energy prices will necessarally skyrocket" and they might break through the MSM blockade on what is really going on.

Danube of Thought

Minus 16 at Raz today.

Cecil Turner

I'll be interested to see how this works out. My take is that the hospital has no authority to stop someone from leaving, and to physically restrain them from doing so is false imprisonment.

This patient's rights guideline has a similar take:

Once a patient has been duly admitted to a hospital, she or he has a right to leave at any time, or the hospital could be liable for False Imprisonment. This is so even if the patient has not paid the bill or if the patient wants to leave against all medical advice.
I maybe could see a short delay to determine if he was trying to abduct the child from its mother, but that clearly was not the case here.

NK

DoT-- thanks. Raz's likely voter model-- for different reasons than Gallup's all registered voters -- comes to the same 45-46% for 'Bam. I would love 'Bam supporters to tell what is going to 'Game Change' those numbers between now and November (other than the Mullahs starting a shooting war in the Gulf). Oh-- the same recovery is right over the horizon-- yeah that line worked for Hoover in '32 and Bush #41 in'92. Godbye 'Bam.

My visceral reaction, as a father who at one time had all three of mine in the maternity ward, is that thank God those nurses were so alert about monitoring who is carrying babies outside. I wouldn't have even thought about taking one of mine off the ward without clearing it with the appropriate staff.

As far as the fact that Douggie K was with a doctor, my reaction is this: SO WHAT? Was that doc authorized to be making decisions about what babies are going in and out and when?

Rick Ballard

Ranger,

If no one is drinking from the mainstream due to pollution levels, why bother to try and break the blockade? You linked an alt-media RNC publication and I would hope that the RNC devotes more energy, effort and money into using that venue rather than into the pockets of the maintrickle purveyors of lies.

IOW - the maintrickle blockade exists but it is already ineffective and essentially broken. Starving it to death is now the kindest course of action to be followed.

I just took a break between describing related topics and saw your school shooting report. There have historically been comparable affective programs going on in the schools that become notorious for school shootings. These are intrusive practices. So I did a search and up came Chardon and the implementation of the practice I just took a break before describing as I am winding down toward the conclusion.

The one I also know about because Red's new high school principal announced he was bringing it to her high school. Just in time for my youngest.

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vnjagvet

This is an interesting detail from the ABC report linked above:

Kennedy was accompanied by a family friend, Dr. Timothy Haydock, who was also an on-duty doctor at the hospital, during the Jan. 7 skirmish.

“I witnessed the incident and I can state unequivocally that the nurses were the only aggressors,” Haydock said.

The two men stopped by the nurses’ station with Kennedy’s newborn son, who was bundled in blankets and wearing a hat, before heading toward the elevators, where the incident was captured on surveillance video.

If this is true, and it should be easily verifiable, ISTM unlikely the nurses were reasonably under the impression that Kennedy was stealing the baby, or was somehow endangering it. Of course it is possible it is not true and the doctor is another shill for the Kennedy family. But if that is the case, the hospital may see to it that the doctor has hospital privileges elsewhere.

Poll: 75 percent of Americans think wealthy should pay 30 percent or less in taxes

A new poll suggests that Warren Buffett's call for high-income Americans to pay more in taxes may not have the backing that the investment mogul believes.

The Hill newspaper interviewed 1,000 likely voters and results released Monday show 75 percent of them think the "most appropriate top tax rate for families earning $250,000 or more" is 30 percent or less.

Currently, upper income Americans pay a 35 percent rate, and President Obama and several Democrats in Congress want to raise that rate to nearly 40 percent next year.

(Another) Barbara

And anyway, he wasn't checking out. He was just going for a stroll.

I'm trying to imagine a hospital where any parent could enter the nursery at any time and take his/her baby outside "for a stroll."

Not a place I'd choose to be a patient or where I'd let a newborn or any child of mine remain.

Thomas Collins

Jim, the fact that Douggie and the doc stopped by the nurses' station doesn't establish that they had authorization to take the baby off the ward. They might have stopped at the station and simply announced to whoever was there that they were taking the baby for fresh air. In my book, that doesn't make the nurses the aggressors.

Extraneus

If that happens, the Republican nominee should loudly claim that the market is rising in anticipation of Obama's defeat.

When the horrified MSM whines about it, he should say it again, steeled jaw, eyes right on the camera.

Janet

Jim, that Chevy Volt commercial is hilarious.

jimmyk

I maybe could see a short delay to determine if he was trying to abduct the child from its mother, but that clearly was not the case here.

Not to prolong this, but why do you say "that clearly was not the case here"? The whole incident appeared to take about 15 seconds. The nurses wouldn't let the elevator go (they held the door open), so he went to the stairwell, where he was again approached by a nurse. I honestly don't see how that is inconsistent with an attempt to figure out if he was abducting the baby. Again, rights aside, he didn't seem to be exercising much common sense. There are lots of things I have the right to do, but I'm going to try to be courteous and respectful to people to avoid a conflict.

Chubby-- not to step on MelR's toes here, but we already have "QEIII" in the form of the ECB printing Euros to prop of European banks, and alot of the 'hot money' is going into the stock market, obviously most of the hot money is going to oil and gold. Bernanke QE buying more treasuries? boy that would push on a monetary string and produce no reduction of unemployment, but that really would tank the Dollar and oil prices would really explode-- $200/Barrel?

Captain Hate

There are lots of things I have the right to do, but I'm going to try to be courteous and respectful to people to avoid a conflict.

Therein lies the rub. If you or I had been in that situation, we may not be ecstatic about not doing what we wanted to do on a whim. But we'd figure that they're doing this for a reason (such as that's what they're ordered to do) and that it's not worth making complete asses out of ourselves and possibly putting our child at risk. But we're not Kennedys and used to receiving maximum deference from the proles in our midst; and having assbages like Ailes providing justification for our boorish behavior.

Captain Hate

Thanks rse and that is extremely disturbing. I assume this is part and parcel of Ayers and his ilk's influence on education that's been going on for quite some time and generally hidden from the public's eye.

Ranger

Rick, I completely agree. I was refering to the idea of using alt media to break through the MSM info blockade to the low information voter.

one possiblity, one that won't be adverstised as a "plan" is bernanke starts qe3 and the stock market rockets in an illusion of prosperity around election time.

A real possibility, but I doubt it would work. I think Obama's run up in the polls was exactly the result of the rapidly rising stock market. That run up hit a brick wall when gas prices started rising as well. I think any effort to inflate the market would produce lots of cash that needed to be spent, and lots of it would flow into the commodities markets, raising prices on everything in short order.

This summer is shaping up to be a perfect storm for Obama. Gas prices rising rapidly, which will raise costs of everything, especially food.

Unemployment will start rising again as gas sucks up more and more disposable income and we hit a another consumption crunch in the economy.

And while all that is going on, the Af-Pak theater is going to be very, very ugly this summer with less troops on the ground and a newly energized Taliban.

All they will have left is a Chavez style "blood in the streets" gambit. Based on how Obamaville Wall Street worked out, I don't see that working here the way it did down there.

Washington Times, NYT....same smell.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/california-politics/2012/02/jerry-brown-takes-on-washington-times-reporter.html

Reporter: Gov. Brown, you’ve gotten criticism that you’ve ceded…
Brown: I’ve gotten criticism? Only from the Washington Times…

Reporter: I understand that you’ve gotten some criticism that you’ve ceded way too much to the unions.

Brown: Give me an example.

Reporter: As far as the education, teachers unions, and just as far as some of the contracts that have been negotiated, that you could be making the same mistake that you made in your last administration...

Brown: Which one was that?

Reporter: … Back in the day.

Brown: When California had a $6-billion surplus and was leading America, if not the world, in many different fields?

Reporter: Well, right now it’s going bankrupt.

Brown: That’s untrue. I’ve reduced the deficit that was left to me by a Republican governor from $26 billion to $9 billion and I have a plan to reduce it to zero.

Reporter: So you’re saying that the reason that California is going bankrupt is...

Brown: No, that’s not true. We’re going far. I mean, we’re doing quite well.

Duran: You need to ask a question that’s based on the truth.

Brown (to Duran): You don’t have to argue with her…

Duran: No, S&P just upgraded to positive. That’s not bankrupt.

Reporter: No, actually, because when Reagan came in later on, things actually changed.

Brown: No, Reagan came before me. Reagan came after my father and then I came after Reagan.

Reporter: And then you actually lost your term thereafter, no?

Brown: No, I’m the only Democratic governor in history to serve three terms. In fact only two governors have ever served a third term.

Reporter: So why is it then, that we’re seeing from the bankruptcy though...

Duran: There is no bankruptcy. That’s a lie. You’re lying.

Brown: California has a $2-trillion economy.

Reporter: Why am I a liar?

Brown: Last year… Are you a Moonie by any chance?

Reporter: Sir…

Duran: And your facts are totally wrong. I can prove it to you.

Brown: Because your incisiveness is kind of suspect. Anyway. California, the economy is doing better, it’s coming back. The private economy added $90 billion, and that feeds into the public sector as well. There are deficits because there’s been excesses in the last decade, brought on principally by the mortgage bubble and breakdown. And we’re now cleaning up after that mess. It does take a while to do that. I’d say we’re on a very positive course. Not as rapid as I would like, but the trajectory is all in the right direction.

Reporter: Thank you, sir..

oh kave. It is one thing for me to recognize the evil in the abstract and the lives lost from siblings of these ideas but I want it to remain abstract.

I have been working so hard to try to get ahead of this. I am very close but we have people in a hurry. What I printed out is combining many of the ideas I have already talked about. Chasing after a new name I was not familiar with from Chandon's credits sent me to a prof pushing the ideas I have already described as being the successor ideology. That pulled up a video of him talking about the effect of his philosophy on educators and what he thought kindergartners should be doing.

I am so sorry for your friend's cousin. I will make sure Chandon becomes synonymous with this method for coercing adults and children. There is nothing innocent about this. It was designed by a prof that used to be a senior Rand social scientist to get around previous obstacles to radical reform.

I believe I'd go with Kagan or Hanson wrt current classicists. Neither really gives adequate coverage to the Spartan gerousia's commitment to infanticide as a means of political control via killing opponents children in an effort to enlarge the remaining slices of pie and neither traces the effect that Plato's error in positing a 'kinder, gentler' Sparta as an ideal has had over the succeeding 2300 years.

As for Santorum -- if he is the nominee, I would like too see him win because he is better than we have. Which means to the extent he decides to battle on issues like birth control, I get worried. Because of Romneycare (and, I think, his prior pro-choice stace on abortion), which has put the mark of Liberal on Romney, Romney really has to run a near perfect campaign, and convince the skeptical he "means it" on a lot of issues where he is saying the right things. Every foot fault is a killer.

It might also be the case that he could run a perfect campaign and still lose the primary - because of the two problems you mention. We just don't know.

Regardless, I think you are playing the Dems' game by focusing on social issues.

Captain Hate

I don't know if Romney has to run a perfect campaign but he's run an extremely imperfect one to this point.

henry, I worked on the verify the recall site last night until I went to bed. Since I cannot help *my* state, it was good to help yours.

Teacher rant: I cannot describe the lack of ability of so many voters to write even their addresses correctly. I realize that penmanship was eliminated long ago, but simple capitalization should still be addressed somewhere in elementary school. Education was once described as "throwing fake pearls before real swine," but that must surely be at the college level.

Jerry Brown is further sinking the state, but the voters unions spoke, and in the words of Ed Koch, "They must be punished."
