Porchlight

Gus, I don't see how she's doing any more than talking about what they already have.

If I may be so bold, I doubt Breitbart would have given them the satisfaction of confirmation.

One can talk about the mistakes of one's own side all day long and not speak untruth, but one's remarks will still be ammo to the other side.

Press on. Stay on offense. Don't give them a damn thing.

jimmyk

There are a few conservatives in the rock world: Ted Nugent, or course. Pretty sure I've heard Gene Simmons, Johnny Ramone, Alice Cooper are as well. It was claimed by someone recently that John Lennon had become a Reaganite by the time of his death, but I have my doubts.

NK

jimmyk-- John Lennon? he had become a drunkard by the time he was murdered. Don't know about Reagan.

jimmyk

Tammy Bruce is saying Rush stepped over the line in giving the left ammo on attacking us in something where we previously completely owned the high ground.

WWAD? (What would Andrew do?)

In honor of Andrew Breitbart, I advocate people saying what they believe in no uncertain terms, and too bad if it gives the left ammo. The best response to ammo is heavy artillery fire if not a few well-placed grenades.

Gus

I agree Porchlight.

Porchlight

Yes to your first four, jimmyk. I should modify my remark - I think Ray Davies is a closet conservo. The other guys are (or were, in Johnny's case) openly so.

Lennon supposedly hinted at some point in 1980 that if he could vote, he'd vote for Reagan. I find it plausible, but I don't know if it means he had any kind of conservative conversion. Lots of libs voted for Reagan because Carter sucked so bad.

jimmyk

NK: No contradiction there. Anyway, here's a story.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2009562/John-Lennon-closet-conservative-fan-Reagan.html

Captain Hate

The Dems insisted and Boehner complied in condemning Rush. Now, why don't we insist that they apologize for Obama's demonizing of people like the Kochs

Exactly; this is how you play this situation. I can't believe that I'm erring on the side of civility particularly when you have the high ground in a discussion but they say politics makes strange bedfellows.::shrug::

MarkO

Boehner cannot leave the postion soon enough for me. He's become the prince of unforced errors. I'd gladly give the job back to Newt. He would terrorize Obama. Just not the presidency.

Captain Hate

If I may be so bold, I doubt Breitbart would have given them the satisfaction of confirmation.

His body's barely cold and we're already having a WWAD. I don't think you can point out any example of Breitbart calling somebody names from a distance. In fact what I liked most about him was he confronted people directly and posed questions for them to answer.

Melinda Romanoff

CH-

Funnel cloud spotted over Cleveland. Don't know how close you are....

daddy

FOX says that President Obama just called Sandra Fluke and say he is upset at Rush Limbaugh and he wants to congratulate her for standing tall.

There's our Prez...Defender of women.

Captain Hate

Mel there are barely any thick clouds here so I'm sure what you're referring to is either to the west or south of me. Probably to the south because they *do* get tornadoes there.

AliceH

I am not convinced that 'giving them more ammo' is necessarily a bad thing. The left is not going to sway any more people to the view that free contraception is a right, or that religious/moral/conscience exemptions should not be honored, or that the right is standing in the way of some vital "women's health" issue and that this is more proof Republicans hate women.

I think more ammo is precisely what we should give them because they seem unaware that they are aiming the guns at themselves. Just as Andrew's "Stop raping people" rant finally got the subject of OWS rapes to be even MENTIONED in certain channels, Rush's use of 'slut' is putting the story of a $45k/year tuition law student pleading for tax payers to pay for her contraception to a much wider audience.

Think about it - we pay attention, and we see how stupid the left policies are, but how cool is it that even those who DON'T pay attention are hearing about this now?

clarice feldman

CH,I've been on the inside--as Breitbart was--and I know how these folks play. and it isn't the usual Republican bean bag.

MarkO

Again, I lament the lack of someone on our side who could come up with a "contraception" diversion.

Or, someone who could stay away from it.

jimmyk

His body's barely cold and we're already having a WWAD. I don't think you can point out any example of Breitbart calling somebody names from a distance.

CH, I don't think that was the point. The point is, as Porch said, offense rather than defense, and not giving in to the temptation to self-flagellation for every alleged violation of lefty sensibilities.

I haven't scrutinized Rush's words, but Fluke did refer to herself in her testimony, not just to the "friend" who had ovarian cysts. Maybe he was over the top, but let's keep the focus on where it should be, which is the demand that government force people to have or provide BC coverage.

Captain Hate

Exactly C; and that's what Breitbart brought, and you and Tammy Bruce still bring, to the table on effectively dealing with these vermin.

Captain Hate

jimmyk, my point was that it distracts from where we should be still going on offense. I'm not gonna argue this any more other than to say that this has happened early enough so by Good Friday it will a big fat nothingburger that nobody will remember.

clarice feldman

Thanks, CH.

Ignatz

I've run out of fingers and toes to keep tabs on the number of times Rush has supposedly said the thing that is finally going to ruin everything for himself and Republicans and yet he's still broadcasting and Republicans are still around.

If only Republicans and conservatives would go back to the days of gentility and permanent minority status it'd be summer time again and the livin would be easy.

Extraneus

Fluke did refer to herself in her testimony, not just to the "friend" who had ovarian cysts.

She did more than that. She did some polling on campus, and supposedly ran the numbers, and I believe she came up with the claim that over 40% of Georgetown ladies are struggling economically over this issue.

clarice feldman

Rush cannot be replaced. I do not know how he does what he does. His genius is that he takes all the conservative best thinking which is usually written in a way few people would access, read or comprehend and makes it compelling and interesting and eye opening to millions of people every damned day.

AliceH

MarkO 2:16 - I'm not staying away from the contraception issue. I think that the debt/entitlements are the biggest issues, but I recognize that the majority are still not worried enough to work to understand what it all means. An issue like the BC Mandate is energizing a sizeable population that was not previously paying close attention -- that's a good thing.

Focusing our fire is important, but let's not limit ourselves to a single weapon. Besides - the mandate is a perfect illustration of what nationalizing health care means, and that includes economic impact of expanding entitlements.

It's not a distraction - it's an example that resonates with a lot of people previously not paying attention.

Extraneus

I'm with Alice. I think more regular people should hear about these hot rich co-eds in a prestigious law school whining about having so much sex that they're struggling to make ends meet over it.

Joe and Jane Sixpack would be cracking up at the dinner table.

Captain Hate

But Rush isn't infallible and to put him above criticism for anything he does aligns us more with the left's cult of personality and is extremely unhealthy for conservatism imo. And part of Breitbart's genius was that he had tons of people saying he was going too far before many of the things he was doing completely came to light only to find out that he was spot on.

clarice feldman

This reminds me of the last big Dem Senate dog and pony show--remember that poor couple who needed subsidized health insuranc. It turned out on examination they "needed" it because they invested all their money in chichi housing and private schools, ran thru their parents' contributions and decided that rather than working for real money they'd do creative things?

clarice feldman

If I were conceding he'd perhaps gone to far, it would have been in the sentence that I hit the whiners with their own medicine like the WH baseless attacks on the Kochs.

matt

'Ho goes to law school. 'Ho be payin' 47 large per year for tuition. 'Ho be able to buy her own damn birth control.

clarice feldman

With regard to that last bleeding heart show about the broke spendthrifts, didn't the left take extreme umbrage when people poked fun of their star witnesses?

Sue

I am sick to death of our side apologizing for anything. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.

Extraneus

I have an old uncle who sits in his garage to listen to Rush, and I can guarantee that he's laughing his head off over this Sandra Fluke business. Millions of people are.

It is funny, after all, isn't it? It's not a serious issue, and there's no way they can spin it as one. More people are laughing than are worried that the evil wingnuts are trying to steal their bc pills.

Obama's numbers must be tanking big-time with women, and this is their Hail Mary play. They're hoping that enough women are dumb enough to fall for it, which seems doubtful.

Sue

Those sons of bitches can call General Petreus General Betrayus and not one of their blankety blank blank blank spokesman would apologize? Blankety blank them.

Ann

Unexpectedly:

Stunner. Georgetown “Coed” Sandra Fluke Is a 30 Year-Old Women’s Rights Activist

Kevin B
That video is not available in my country, said the link, KB.*

Count yourself lucky. It's a vid of Roy Wood and Wizzard doing a bad 'Mini Vanilli' on a rubbish song called Angel Fingers, which sounds remarkably like 'See my Baby jive', and illustrating his fall from grace from the days of the Move and ELO.

*That really annoys me when it happens to me. Is there a way to find out what vids are banned where on YouTube?

centralcal

Exactly, Sue. JP has it just right in the following sarcasm:

John Podhoretz ‏ @jpodhoretz
BREAKING: Obama calls Sarah Palin to apologize for Andrew Sullivan

Sue

I'm not a doctor, I don't play one on tv, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night but aren't contraceptives estrogen and/or progestrone? The same ingredients in hormone pills given to menopausal women? And does the Catholic school not provide hormones either?

centralcal

Thanks for that news, Ann! 30 year old activist who chose Georgetown purposely after reviewing their insurance plans. Good grief!

Sue

Wow, I wish I had said what Podhoretz said.

Captain Hate

Yes Kevin B; Roy went badly off the rails with Wizzard which was too bad considering he and Jeff Lynne were the original brains behind the first ELO (and after he left the group became less than what it could've been). One big musical mystery for me was how the Move's popularity didn't transfer from the UK to the US during the British Invasion.

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vnjagvet

I'm not sure Rush would have been much more effective to his base by calmly pointing out the logical inconsistencies of Fluke's silly testimony. After all, he is an entertainer first and commentator second. He'll be milking this schtick for weeks to come.

AliceH

Thanks for the support, Ex. I'm one of those "more timid souls" grateful for Andrew's bravery and boldness.

clarice feldman

From Ann's link to Jammie Wearing Fools:
For me the interesting part of the story is the ever-evolving “coed”. I put that in quotes because in the beginning she was described as a Georgetown law student. It was then revealed that prior to attending Georgetown she was an active women’s right advocate. In one of her first interviews she is quoted as talking about how she reviewed Georgetown’s insurance policy prior to committing to attend, and seeing that it didn’t cover contraceptive services, she decided to attend with the express purpose of battling this policy. During this time, she was described as a 23-year-old coed. Magically, at the same time Congress is debating the forced coverage of contraception, she appears and is even brought to Capitol Hill to testify. This morning, in an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show, it was revealed that she is 30 years old, NOT the 23 that had been reported all along.
Gus

I just asked SENATOR JOHNSON R-WI, under WHAT authority does Obama give away some BUSINESSES product, be it SCHWINN BICYCLES, BROCOLLI or THE PILL.

Religion has NOTHING to do with this issue.

clarice feldman

I think JPod's remark is brilliant,

Sue

Crap. Rush's advertisers are freaking out.

Porchlight

The Frosts were that Baltimore couple they rolled out for S-CHIP, clarice. The NYT sob story on them included a mention of their newly remodeled kitchen, with a pic. You'd think they could find better poster children.

Cap'n, no, Rush isn't infallible, but who cares? Everyone ought to be laughing at this woman. At minimum she almost certainly perjured herself when she said she's spent $3000 on birth control since enrolling at Georgetown Law.

Ben Franklin

" I can guarantee that he's laughing his head off over this Sandra Fluke business. Millions of people are."

SLUTS are quite humerous......

'Difficult to sustain..."? No problem. Shit is easy to shovel.

http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum

"In the late 90s through the early and mid 00s, the GOP found that it could increase both number of voters and voter passion by aligning itself with a media machine that was initially created to build ratings from shock value....The GOP found, much to its delight, that by using the segment of the media that it controlled, it could continually rally its base and win elections without dealing with the traditional difficulties of having to sell superior policy proposals....In a world as hard and difficult as politics, the GOP found a way to make everything easy.

But, as Terry Pratchett has oft said, the problem with the easy way is that eventually it makes everything so damn hard.

The media business model the Right chose to embrace was based on the shock-radio model. An inherent flaw with this type of model is that while it leads to quick ratings and advertising profits, it it can be difficult to sustain."

centralcal

Rush is a big boy and has been round this bend before. I wouldn't worry about his advertisers. I haven't listened today - too many clients in and out - but wait till he reads the Jammie Wearing Fools piece Ann linked and Clarice excerpted here and puts that out on his "air."

Melinda Romanoff

CH-

What do the letters "TN" mean after the City of Cleveland?

Sue

Dang, how the heck could I have not remembered what today is?

Happy Independence Day...

....Texas!

Sue

Tennessee?

clarice feldman

Frosted Flukes or something.

Porchlight

Aside from the religious liberty problem, surely most Americans recognize the difference between the right to use birth control and the right to have someone else pay for it.

Even the lib and the moderate on my local talk radio show displayed that level of understanding when it was being discussed.

Extraneus

SLUTS are quite humerous......

That's very true. Especially ones who can afford $65K/yr law schools but not enough condoms to keep them from getting pregnant.

Captain Hate

Mel as Sue says there is a Cleveland Tennessee if that's what you're seeing on a weather map; which would make sense because I haven't seen any weather warnings.

Porchlight

Oh my goodness, Sue, I completely forgot. Happy Texas Independence Day!

Janet

Especially ones who can afford $65K/yr law schools

Some lib. flotsam group probably pays for her education. What a fraud....30 yrs. old.

Melinda Romanoff

No, just a reminder to not read so fast. And where to go to see that funnel cloud.

Captain Hate

Yes Porch and Sue, happy Texas Independence Day!

Porchlight

There is a Cleveland, Texas, too - subject of The Band's song "Look Out Cleveland."

Captain Hate

I always wondered about that, Porch

Porchlight

Thanks Cap'n. As a born Yankee I feel somewhat ineligible to celebrate as natives do, but as the bumper sticker says, I got here as fast as I could.

Gus

She's a LIBTARD PLANT. Simple as that. If she wants to be a slut, that's her business.

If she want's ME to pay for her to be a SLUT, that's MY BUSINESS.

Sue

Cleveland is down around the Houston area.

Porchlight

And the lyrics match, too - "look out Cleveland, storm is comin' through/And it's runnin' right up on you"

Sue

Cleveland, TX that is. Cleveland, TN is north of Atlanta, GA.

Sue

Well, I'm a 6th generation Texan and I'm probably kind of proud of it. ::grin::

Danube of Thought

Spot on at 2:32, Ext.

Did the Repubs on the committee have the info on this woman? If not, why not?

Gus

Danube, the GOP will not fight Fluke. They are cowards. They are hiding on this issue.

Do you think that Boehner his going to make this an issue of LIBERTY vs. STATISM?

By now, if not before, the MSM knows that FLUKE was a plant. They don't report that which doesn't support THE PARTY.

daddy

Since we're talking coffee, lets get down to the nuts and bolts of it. How do you take yours?

Me. Straight black. No sugar.

If at Starbucks I usually go for an Americano, which is like triple the caffeine, straight black, no sugar, and maybe an ice cube to cool it off.

Used to have a drip machine and crush the beans at the store and the whole bit, but now just for laziness we do instant, then hit it with our hot water dispenser, and am slurping that addictive drug within seconds.

Sue

Sleep Train Mattress is pulling its ad on Rush's show.

Iowahawk: David Burge ‏ @iowahawkblog

@theSleepTrain with that brand name, you might want to hire Sandra Fluke as a spokeswoman.

Porchlight

Well, I'm a 6th generation Texan and I'm probably kind of proud of it. ::grin::

As well you should be! I certainly would. :)

Sue

Daddy,

Black, no sugar, for me too. Can't do instant, though.

Jane

Could someone please tell me what rights women are lacking?

While you are at it, could someone please tell my what rights anyone in the US is lacking. I'm dying to know.

Jane

Sue, you are on fire.

My coffee is black with cinnamon.

Sue

Jane,

Too much coffee?

Sue

As well you should be! I certainly would. :)

Yeah, on both sides. Actually on my mother's side I'm only 5th generation. They were johnny-come-latelies.

MarkO

I really think Obama called because he thought she might really be a ho. Or a he.

Janet

By now, if not before, the MSM knows that FLUKE was a plant.

Exactly right!

"Fluke is a law student
who wasn’t allowed to testify at a congressional hearing in February that centered on the Obama administration’s contraception rule. Democrats convened a hearing last week specifically so Fluke could testify the need for easier access to birth control."

God bless Rush for mocking her.

Sue

I wonder what document dump will be coming this afternoon? Seems to me Obama wants that attention to be on Rush and Fluke. Maybe he doesn't want anyone talking about GM stopping production on Volts and laying off 1300 workers?

NK

Sue @2:40--

more true and eloquent words were never spoken.

PS: Happy Texas Independence Day.

Ignatz

--Sleep Train Mattress is pulling its ad on Rush's show.--

That I find surprising.
Dale Carlsen started Sleep Train in Sacramento IIRC and was advertising with Rush when Rush was just a local Sacramento phenom, which puts them together for around 25 years.

Melinda Romanoff

MarkO-

Nah, just a fluke.

Gus

So SLEEPTRAIN is "pulling out".

Sounds like a plan to me!!!!!!

Porchlight

Sue, that is mighty impressive.

Democrats convened a hearing last week specifically so Fluke could testify the need for easier access to birth control.

Wrong, Politico. Not easier. It's already easy. She testified for the nead for CHEAPER access; specifically, free.

daddy

Janet,

Thankfully Ms Fluke didn't have this gal as her college roommate, or she might actually have had to pay attention in her Law School Classes.

And on a side note, what do you guys think comes first, "The Sandra Fluke Story" mini-series, or a paying gig at MSNBC or CNN?

Personally I'll be thankful if Roger Ailes doesn't hire her at FOX.

Sue

Ig,

Their spokesman is tweeting it.

Melinda Romanoff

Please recall that this was an "independent" hearing by the House Dems, just like Conyers little "impeachment" hearing.

Biased/Paid witnesses only, please.

(yes, cross-posted)

MarkO

This kind:

fluke, also called blood fluke or trematode, any member of the invertebrate class Trematoda (phylum Platyhelminthes), a group of parasitic flatworms that probably evolved from free-living forms millions of years ago
Most are flattened and leaflike or ribbonlike, although some are stout and circular in cross section. Muscular suckers on the ventral (bottom) surface, hooks, and spines are used for attachment.

Ignatz

--Ig,

Their spokesman is tweeting it.--

Not doubting it Sue, just surprised by it.

MarkO

I prefer the Love Train.

Gus

Yes MarkO, the LOVE TRAIN. "get ON BOARD everybody".

Annoying Old Guy
The NYT sob story on them included a mention of their newly remodeled kitchen, with a pic. You'd think they could find better poster children.

That is what amazes me over and over, is how the Modern American Left picks exemplars that are so contrary to their propaganda on the issue. That story, and Fluke, are in this vein. The best one I have seen was an article about the oppressed unemployed poor and the example chosen was someone who couldn't keep a job because "I'm not a morning person". What taxpayer with a real job wouldn't spew coffee at that point? Yet the MALists don't seem to see it.

Sue

Letterman calls Palin's 16 year old daughter a slut. It's funny. No personal phone call from the president. Rush calls 30 year old activist a slut. Horror! President makes personal phone call.

What is wrong with this picture?

Ben Franklin

"So SLEEPTRAIN is "pulling out"."

Acceptable birth-control.....

Pope Benedict-

Sue

Let me tell you what is wrong with this picture. WE are apologizing. Our side. Our side is saying we are sorry Rush raised the debate to this level.

Grrrrr.....

Sue

Great point:

Jimmie ‏ @jimmiebjr

Barack Obama called Sandra Fluke, but not the parents of the Border Patrol agent his administration killed.

Gus

Annoying Old Guy ,don't you find it IRONIC that the LIBTARD LEFT/MARXISTS, want YOU to pay for a GEORGETOWN LAW SCHOOL students BIRTH CONTROL? Why that's where BILL CLINTON went!!!!!

Extraneus

Does that desperation phone call make undecided women want to vote for him?
