Frau Madame Schmetterling

kim, there's a sprinkling of snow on the peak today, with more expected. It can never be compared to a view from the Tokaido.

Danube of Thought

Are we really going to be treated to the spectacle of a Holder civil-rights trial of the shooter? If so, by all means let's have it before the election.

Jack is Back!

JIm Ryan,

Have you tried Julian's Hard Cider or Ace's Pear Cider? Both are pretty good respite from beer and wine especially on a hot humid evening that you never get in Seattle, right. But they are much better than Woodchuck and closer to good draught British cider.

Ralph L

Cereal LIAR
I'm grinding my brains for a good joke about this.

Hope it wasn't white or hispanic kids that put Woods on fire, JiB.

sbw

I think postmodernism and psychosis go together like a horse and carriage.

Pithy. To the point. And true.

sbw

"Cereal LIAR"

e. g.: Tastes G-r-r-r-e-a-t!

MarkO

Tiger looking tough. McDowell's putting is, however, beyond belief. Wow.

What's the line on UNC? Will Marshall play or will it be the fresman?

Jack is Back!

RalphL,

The clue was "en fuego":)

What a shot into 8 by Tiger. (My favoite hole on the course, BTW)

Jim Ryan

Thanks, Jack, I'll make a note of those.

Sue of the Wisdom

A friend of mine running in the Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon in Dallas this morning posted this to facebook:

Inspiration for the day- at mile 4 we caught up with a soldier in full attire (boots jacket and all) carrying a huge back pack and a sign that said - for all my buddies that couldn't. He even had a guy running with him with a flag. He was sweating like crazy. Wow. Thank you for your service!!!

Awesome!

Clarice

Thanks, sbw.

TM,

Clean up, Aisle 5 at 4:00pm.

Donald Sensing

Back in 2003 or so there was a huge media uproar in Nashville, Tenn., over a bruning Quran found on the front steps of a small Muslim community center in the middle of a Muslim section of town (not a large section since then there were not that many Muslims in Nashville).

The chief of police went on camera and announced no stone will be left unturned, etc., to arrest the perpetrator of this hate crime and local clergy tripped over each other rushing to cameras to denounce it and you can imagine the rest.

And then the story completely disappeared, utterly and absolutely. No arrests, no investigation updates, nothing.

I can't find anything on Google about it.

I am convinced that the police very soon discovered it was all a setup by some Muslims themselves and dropped it, but would not say why.

Gmax

I take it that the lunatic professor from the backwater college in the desert had another meltdown and got his posts disappeared? Otherwise the thread reads like a Franz Kafka novel, full of mystery and some strange stuff.

Clarice

Donald, I expect you're right. I seem to recall lots of made up "hate crimes".

GMax we're just trying our hand at a new form of stream of consciousness cooperative writing.

Ignatz

Frau's pic at 3:30PM reminds me of this classic rockabilly number by Wanda Jackson, Fujiyama Mama, also covered by Pearl Harbour and the Explosions in my favorite version in the 80's. Could only find this live version she did with The Clash.

Gmax

Hahahahaha

"I am not going anywhere". Well its seems like you got sent to the twilight zone to me, and against your wishes too.

Frau Madame Schmetterling

Yes, Gmax. JOM has had another encounter with its own giant dung beetle, one that spews hate-quite different from patient Gregor Samsa.

Good find, Iggy: "I can cause destruction just like the atom bomb!"

Chubby

(...its own giant dung beetle...))

sticking with the Japanese theme, think of what a great monster movie that could make ...

Jane

I know we hate to act like them, but I think we are missing a pre-election angle here. Obama singlehandedly put a Hispanic in real jeopardy. AS far as I'm concerned this is a war on Hispanics in the name of Derrick Bell. And I think Obama and the media should be asked about that.

On the morning shows no one even considered the idea that Zimmerman might not be guilty, instead we are at a Martin Luther King moment as far as they are all concerned. Frankly the lot of them sounded like a lynch mob.

Jane

Brian,

I actually think Wallace did dissect Plouffe, at least a little. I missed Gregory because by then I was Plouffed out, but Stephanopolus treated him like a new batch of heroin for an addict.

Mike

"Well - maybe a thirteeen year old was playing with gas, lit himself up and lied to the cops and his parents. In that scenario, letting it slide may be best for everyone."

I still have a scar on my stomach from the same kind of 'incident'. Me and my brothers were making Molotov cocktails. I got a water hose and sprayed one of my brothers with it and in revenge, he made up a cocktail and threw it at me. The cocktail was in a plastic sandwich baggie, so the bag melted and the burning gas hit me on the stomach and chest. I tried to blame it on someone throwing it over our fence, but the jig was up and the truth came out after the emergency room nurse smelled the gasoline all over my clothes and hands.

So it is possible that the kid was playing with gas and got burned.

Gmax

I always like the scene in Bugs Life where the dung beetle orders the "poo poo platter"

Still laughing at you Dana Ward.

Chubby

Z is a member of La Raza, I wonder if they will speak up to defend him.

Jane,

IMO - All that we are seeing is a series of headless chicken tactical moves best characterized by the observation that: 'The President acted stupidly. Again.'

There is no discernible positive political strategy operating AFAICT. He's in a waiting mode - the Bain 1%er campaign can't really start until Governor Romney locks it up.

Lyrics for those who would like their Sunday serving of high culture;

I've been to Nagasaki, Hiroshima too!
The things you did to them baby, I can do to you!

'Cause I'm a Fujiyama Mama and I'm just about to blow my top!
Fujiyama-yama, Fujiyama!
And when I start eruptin', aint nobody gonna make me stop!

I drink a quart of sake, smoke dynamite!
I chase it with tobbacy and then shoot out the lights!

'Cause I'm a Fujiyama Mama and I'm just about to blow my top!
Fujiyama-yama, Fujiyama!
And when I start eruptin', aint nobody gonna make me stop!

Well you can talk about me, say that I'm mean!
I'll blow your head off baby I'm nitroglycerine!

'Cause I'm a Fujiyama Mama and I'm just about to blow my top!
Fujiyama-yama, Fujiyama!
And when I start eruptin', aint nobody gonna make me stop!

Well you can say I'm crazy, so deaf and dumb!
But I can cause destruction just like the atom bomb!

'Cause I'm a Fujiyama Mama and I'm just about to blow my top!
Fujiyama-yama, Fujiyama!
And when I start eruptin', aint nobody gonna make me stop!

So, where does Dana Ward go now to vent his particular incoherent venom?

fdcol63

I wish Dana would just argue with the OTHER voices in his head. LOL

Chubby

((I think there is a race war ready in case he needs it.))

I can't see how that would help him.

Ignatz

I'm only guessing since TM was a bit cryptic himself, but I doubt Ben is banned. TM seems to have deleted his more, shall we say, contentious comments from this thread, but he did leave a relatively innocuous one right before TM's own comment about cleaning the thread up.

Jack is Back!

Chubby

...unless he can order martial law and stop the election

Rick Ballard

Chubby,

The election of 1864 went forward under rather more trying circumstances than those which we face today. The President might try and interfere with matters which are the responsibility of the individual states but it would only increase his margin of loss.

It will be Blue Hells which burn - how do burning and bankrupt Blue Hells increase the President's popularity?

Janet

Just got back from the Supreme Court event. Maybe 250+ people there. I always want more to be there. I took a taxi down there & told the driver he could let me off a couple blocks away if the crowds were a problem! Hah! I am so naively optimistic...
It was a nice event though. There is something powerful about kneeling in front of the SC & asking God for His help.
The taxi driver was from Morocco & said he would vote Republican because they were pro-life & pro-business! So that was good. Also some ad kids came by handing out free 5-hour energy drink, so I got some for my soldier packages!
Rode the Metro home & am totally beat. I remember why I am an exercise-aphobe.
There is another Rally on Tuesday - Hands Off My Healthcare.

Janet - Thanks for the updates on the SC protest today and hopefully what will pass on Tuesday. By listening to the MFM, you'd never know about Friday's Freedom of Religion rallies, but sure enough about the Hoodie get-togethers.

RickB
- Pretty much everything your write, e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. you write I take to the bank. But in the consideration of the scenario of suspension of elections, I think you are missing it. Obama thinks of himself above the law. He embraces the Law of Rule not/NOT the Rule of Law. He views the Constitution as fundamentally flawed and has succeeded mightily in the push for "fundamental transformation." His heros are Chavez, Castro, Zeleya, Putin and Amenanutjob. He is all about POWER and hates America for all that it is.

Retaining that POWER is, imho, all that matters. To suggest that he won't try any and every trick in the book to retain POWER is, niaive, I think. Besides the International Socialist Lewft/Communist brotherhood know that this is their moment, this is their time. If they lose POWER in America now, their best hope for the ultimate fulfillment of all of their aspiration and work since Wilson will come to a crashing end.

Imagine if you will, such a suspension of elections, as Orzag or Purdue have suggested. Sure a Constitutional Crisis ensues. Who responds? How does that happen? Does the military act as in Honduras? The (ahem) United Nations? Its a gamble on his part, but what does he have to lose? While everyone dithers on how to accept this direct challenge, he carries on with his minions doing their diabolical best to destroy the country. So far they are succeeding. Why would you think that they would voluntarily give way to a free election process that would see them sloe power?

OS~OMG~ABO,

Danube of Thought

"Who responds?"

The House of Representatives, with articles of impeachment.

How would Obama prvent the election from taking place? The states print their own ballots and conduct their own elections--including for national office--with no participation by the federal government at all. The entire process would go forward just as it did in 2008.

Hmm, interesting point.

Chubby,

In 1972 I was as into politics as I am now, but on the other side. And of course there was so much less information available. Those of us who worked for McGovern were sure Nixon was involved in Watergate long before the election and I was completely paranoid that Nixon would declare martial law if he needed to.

Obviously I was wrong and it has always troubled me that I was so sure of something which was completely irrational.

Since Obama extended the martial law power last week that memory keeps coming up.

Extraneus

I'd rather see Anne's posts disappeared than Ben's. The thread would be a lot easier to read, for one thing, since hardly anyone responds to her.

Ben, unlike Anne, has stuck to one name for quite some time now, allowing anyone who wants to narcisolate him to do so. I think he should get credit for that show of consideration for the rest of us.

Btw, the jerk who keeps sock-puppeting Ben should have his IP address banned. He stinks up the place more than anyone else. No one else deposits more profanity and antisemitic b.s. here than this sock-fool.

Jane

Santorum Pronounces Zimmerman Guilty Before Trial, or Charge

Rick Ballard

Sandy,

I rely upon the lack of an existing mechanism by which a President can authorize the use of military force within the US. AFAIK, the military oath is to defend the Constitution and obey lawful orders. I know that posse comitatus has been bent a few times and that Federal troops were used in NY during the Civil War, DC during the depression and in Little Rock to maintain order during desegregation but I'd love to hear the response of the Chiefs to an order to mobilize throughout the US. I sincerely doubt that it would be "Yes, sir.".

Danube of Thought

"Can't link"

From now on, everyone here but one dumb shit will take that phrase to mean "I can't link." The one dumb shit should understand it to mean "I can't link because I'm posting from my iPad."

Jack is Back!

DoT,

As I understand it, his father's girlfriend lived inside the gates. He was visiting. Probably had a pass or transponder but most likely a pass to walk in and out. Most likely knew the code if entrance not guarded. There are a lot of gated communities in Florida that gave up guards to save on HOA costs and use transponders and gate code boxes. This one evidently did not have security since they had a neighborhood watch.

BTW, a lot of these gated communities in Florida have a lot of investment condo's and townhouses. They are absent the landlords and are rented. As a result, some are experiencing a lot of drug realted crime. Absent landlords with an undervalued property rent and don't care who they rent to. We have a number of these here where I live.

Jane

Jane, I posted my question about his expansion of power before I read your post. So the bill passed, did it?

I don't think it was a bill - just another proclamation.

So it turns out, that Nadia, the one who had waged a full on twitter war on O'Keefe, and on Breitbart by proxy, had in one of those 2005 lawsuits against the GOP, admitted she was so medicated, that he couldn't testify accurately, this hasn't stopped however of accusing O'Keefe of trying to drug her and other attendant offenses, From the depositions Patterico dug up. Jane:

Sandy Daze

Rick - DoT, others, I am not exactly sure of the exact scenario, they are all hypotheticals, of course. My question about the military was not that they would mobilize to support Voldemort's diktat that the elections were cancelled. Rather, could they / would they insert themselves to ensure that the elections were held or in another scenario, that the elections are held and then Voldemort says that "owing to the extreme civil strife, the result of the election is held in abeyance. . ." will the military allow this?

Oh, DoT, Articles of Impeachment in 2013 against a President who refuses to go? Is that the process? Still hanging on to the idea that Voldemort will follow the Rule of Law. That is the rub, in my opinion, he will not, and has not, followed the Rule of Law, but rather the Law of Rule. The closer he gets to losing POWER, the greater his lack of incentive to maintain any sort of façade of propriety. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Whatever.

The current oath of enlistment and oath for commissioned officers are as follows:

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

just don't think he'll go quietly into the night. And, should he provoke a constitutional crisis the likes of which we've never seen, does that not also promote is broader agenda to rip asunder the very fabric of America?

Even if there's no race war, everyday black and white people in shopping malls and at work are now looking at each other with suspicion that didn't exist a week ago. How does this help our post-racial asshole*?

The Edublogger is using an external keyboard. A lot of iPad users do not have bluetooth external keyboards. Big difference. I use an iPad from time to time and to cut and paste and use HTML is not worth my time to link. I think that is what we mean by not able to link.

Of course, if you can I guess that means everyone should be able to:)

Danube of Thought

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Jane: I have faith in you that if you want to do it, you will. If not, not a big deal either. :)

Clarice

Jane and sandy I understand that proclamation doesn't mean quite what you think it does and is an extension of a similar one signed by Bush. Someone--I forget who--maybe LI--explained it.

As I said on the other thread--besides Zimmerman's black friend standing up for him; the reports today are that he was crying when the police showed up and couldn't stop; and that he is hiding in fear for his life.
Frau, it turns out the initial reports of him lying 3 days in the morgue with no one knowing his identity were false. His id was known instantly and his father identified him soon after the shooting.

One lingering question--Zimmerman 911'd that he'd lost sight of him for about 5 minutes--the father's house was 100 yds away. If he was fearful of being followed, why didn't he just go home?

Mysteries inside of mysteries to everyone but the Demmedia who is participating in a lynching..
