McCain probably blames Palin for his loss in 2008, but the reality is that McCain himself is mostly to blame because of his own failure to address Obama's Leftist radicalism during the campaign.

He may have done this because of his campaign advisors or himself because of a fear of some kind of backlash or charge of "racism", but Obama's radicalism and inexperience needed to be attacked more vigorously during the campaign than it was.

It's largely McCain's failure to do so that we have Obama in office "fundamentally transforming" America into the Marxist/Socialist/Euro-trash country that Obama and the Left have wanted for so long.

MarkO

This is OT, but it shows the just how dishonest the Obama folks are even under oath. Maybe, especially under oath.
Wouldn't this be a requirement of "the whole truth?"

Schmidt and Wallace are professional guns-for-hire in campaign politics. They have no loyalty except to their bank accounts. This is a common DC business practice. The so-called "democrat and/or republican strategist" talking heads that the networks use on panel discussions usually come out of K street boutiques or super PAC funded shops.

In fact, it is exactly the McCain-Feingold campaign finance act that gives you the Schmidt's and Wallace's of the world plus contribute to the inability of McCain to outraise Obama. That was the irony of the 2008 election - not picking Palin and learning to use her to her strengths.

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes is purchasing the New Republic, the nearly century-old political magazine known for its influence in progressive circles, according to The New York Times.

NK

CaptH-- I think that's right. McCain would have made many 'keynesian' mistakes, almost as bad as 'Bam on spending and debt, the only advantage would have been no full out Obamacare. We'd only be marginally less worse than with 'Bam, and 'Bam would have waltzed in in 2012 with even bigger Congress majorities.
CecilT-- I would like to see the Hanoi Hilton critics you cite. Bottomline-- despite the fact McCain's father ultimately became CNO, McCain stayed in Hanoi until the last day. Probably more out of stubbornness than anything else, but he stayed. The hero of HH was Jim Stockdale, one of the greatest men to ever serve in the USN.

I'd like to see the deed (or whatever you get for a car) to see if Sec Chu's name is on it.

He is a lying piece of shit.

Well it's coming from Ziegler, who has proved to be an assiduous weasel himself, I don't know how true that is, I've tried to ignore Julianne's coke enhanced bender, but they insist on shoveling this lark's vomit in our face, on every outlet but Animal Planet.

McCain probably blames Palin for his loss in 2008, but the reality is that McCain himself is mostly to blame because of his own failure to address Obama's Leftist radicalism during the campaign.

McCain lost because the Dems successfully pinned the recession on the GOP. And instead of running endless clips of Barney Fwank talking about "rolling the bones" or the CBC defending Franklin Raines (and tying him to the Obama campaign), McCain searched for the best bailout option whilst looking panicked. It's a wonder he won anywhere.

Schmidt and Wallace are professional guns-for-hire in campaign politics. They have no loyalty except to their bank accounts. This is a common DC business practice.

Pick two "moderates" from the most leftist city in America, and surprise! they don't actually believe in conservatism. Which makes it hard to sell it. If Schmidt actually thinks the main lesson of the affair was:

"I regret playing a part in a process that yielded someone on the ticket who was not prepared to be president."
Then he's both a liberal and a moron. (Unless of course he was referring to Obama, in which case he'd be belaboring the obvious.)

NK

Jane BTW-- cars are owned by 'title,' and 'registered' to the primary operator. If Mrs Chu has a loan on her beamer, the lender probably has the title, and the car is registered in her and/or Dr. Chu's name.

We need to find out who is funding this effort.

I really hate the McCain bashing. I'm no fan of McCain as a politician but I never want to denigrate his service to this country.

Wallace is a different story. My guess is she is quite content to be a regular on MSNBC and that statement increases her cred.

CecilT-- I would like to see the Hanoi Hilton critics you cite.

I can't even remember their names. I went through A-4 training in '81-'82 (last part in Arizona), was trained by a bunch of VN era guys, and McCain was running for office there at the time.

I'm reluctant to repeat any of it (both because it's second-hand and I can't remember exact particulars), but suffice it to say I was gobsmacked by the vitriol some of those gents had for McCain. Got an earful. More than once.

Actually, it doesn't matter very much what political operatives believe themselves if they are capable and loyal to their employer. My problem with Schmidt and Wallace is that they are incompetents who have pegged the loss on someone who kept the loss from being larger than it was and sandbagged her (and therefore their boss every step of the way.

I don't see a great deal more in Romney's staff to be honest.

Maybe instead of shopping for staff in the usual places they ought to look to tea party organizers and bloggers. Just saying.
In any event whoever runs with Romney would be well advised to insist on his/her own staff for protection.

I agree. I see links to that video from the college age kids on FB. It'll be Obama's second Osama kill. Read one article where some Ugandans are upset because they've pretty much gotten rid of them already...the problem is in Congo.

Why, no, Jane, I never do, that's why I am...oh carp...nevermind...

I want to take a plastic baseball bat to Geraldo Rivera or to the person who thought booking him every Friday morning was a good idea. Puts me in a bad mood every...single...time.

Forgot to mention above, the protest was to get Rush off the local radio station.

Actually, it doesn't matter very much what political operatives believe themselves if they are capable and loyal to their employer.

A matter of opinion. I'll take a true believer whose skill set could use some brushing up over a reluctant clock-watcher any day of the week. Eventually the former will shine . . . the latter will have to be dragged along until the day you fire him.

Speaking of Dr Chu and cars-- below is the Consumer reports link of the $108K Fisker being disabled during the check in phase, and hauled off on a flatbed. Never made it to the LimeRock test track. Dr Chu gave Fisker $529M in loan guarantees and Fisker has shut down their Wilmington Del. plant (Biden Plant #1), and of course dissatisfied investors are suing Fisker for securities fraud. MarkO at 9:44-- fair point.

The only chance McCain had was shortly before he suspended his campaign, MarkO. In one of the debates he tore into Obama on energy policy. He made it very clear that nuclear has been used safely in the navy for decades. Obama was shaken. He sat there nodding his head in total agreement.

McCain never spoke of it again.

Captain Hate

Can we all agree this is really stupid? http://www.thelantern.com/campus/urban-meyer-apologizes-to-scarlet-and-gay-1.2812124?firstComment=0#forum

Ignatz

--Ignatz, I am pretty sure Sue has it just right and that plastic is all it would take to flatten Geraldo.--

But why take the chance, cc, when one could have a lead pipe cinch?
There's a famous maxim in dangerous game hunting; "use enough gun."
No telling what damage a wounded Geraldo might do to himself or others.

GMAX

Its easy to think of the single thing McCain did that helped him win. Anyone who saw the speech of Palin at that convention could feel the electricity from the speech. Other than that, white bread McCain was epic fail. Worse I fear we are following the exact same path once again.

MarkO

Capt'n, beyond stupid. Submissive. What I always seek in a football coach. But, Urban is a carpetbagging opportunist so I expect nothing else from him.

Good luck with the Terps. Sorry daddy, but GTHC.

Ignatz

CH,
So we can't use perfectly useful words like 'queer' and 'gay' anymore not to mention 'transgendered mutant freaks' but we can't even use the color purple without causing offense?
Was somebody saying the other day that the PC tide was ebbing? Not in the groves and fields of academia.

MarkO

GMAX, is it doom for thee?

"Worse I fear we are following the exact same path once again."

While there is much to admire about Palin, I don't think she helped to win. She presented a target for distraction and, for all the reasons cited here, it worked.

Captain Hate

GMAX, listening to Willard in the South this morning was cringe inducing. Although, in the department of faint praise, he is honestly awkward in his approach instead of the Kerry arrogant gasbag mode.

MarkO

Ah, yes. Them color purple.

Sue

I don't want to kill him. If I started hitting him I wouldn't be able to stop. Plastic would work well for me to beat the crap out of him and leave him alive.

Jane

JIB,

I'm not the least bit offended so don't worry about it. And I truly hate my decreasing ability to find the right word, (especially on the radio) but I am glad I am not alone in that.

narciso

Ditto, GMax, we have seen this time and again, any candidate that has any strong conviction they squash, through the ad blitzkrieg, but it's getting harder and harder.

Ann

Captain:

Since when did the gays own the color purple? They got everything in that article..outrage, social justice and an apology.

We need bats for more things than flattening Geraldo.

Sue

I thought McCain's convention speech was awesome. It was the moment I decided a McCain presidency wouldn't be a complete disaster.

AliceH

COMPLETELY Off Topic...

I keep seeing comments around the web saying 'drop HBO, or better yet, drop cable entirely'..

How can you 'drop cable entirely' and still get decent Internet speed? DSL and Satellite are available in my area, but just barely and both are slow and unreliable (i.e. they drop connections a lot). Is there some other ISP option I'm unaware of?

Ann

I saw Ms. Wallace on t.v. and she said she needed to be careful because her daddy was watching.

Another bat please!

Sue

Well, yeah, we do, Ann. We could start handing them out, like Bill Engval signs. Here's your bat....

Captain Hate

Mark, I always liked Urban Meyer at Florida and found him a breath of fresh air after the obnoxious Steve Squirrelier, the worst coach that Dan Snyder ever inflicted on the suffering Redskins fans. As far as the carpetbagging claim, he is a native of Ashtabula, Ohio and never failed to let it be known, even in his contract with the Gators, that he wanted the O$U job.

I fear it will be the end of the road for the Terps today.

Captain Hate

Since when did the gays own the color purple?

I wish they didn't own the word "gay".

Jack is Back!

CH's 9:54 is a must read just to juxtapose that article with FlukeGate.

Urban called to apologize so that Obama wouldn't have to.

Jack is Back!

Sue,

I mean't to add that the old adage, "I love free speech, it allows one to spot the idiots a lot easier" still applies when it comes to Geraldo.

Cecil Turner

As a retired Naval Aviator, you are aware of the phenomenon of Aviators being somewhat -- eh-- judgmental and stubborn in their opinions.

Yes, but I was very surprised at the time. I'd imagined the naval aviator community (and especially the A-4 guys) would be quite happy to have one of their own in Congress. And the predominant political bent is right-wing and GOP-friendly, so the politics should've been a plus. Not sure if it was a majority opinion, but I was rudely disabused of the notion that it was a happy consensus.

PS: I'm sure you saw that Carroll LeFon died in a jet accident. Terrible.

I did. I'm so out of it I hadn't realized they'd privatized the aggressors for TopGun. (And I didn't read Neptunus Lex regularly.) After looking over his site, and noting what appears to be a maintenance trend, I have to wonder if it was a good idea. Fought against the KFirs a few times . . . a load of fun, but I wouldn't be willing to accept that level of risk today, even if they'd have me. (Though I respect those who do. RIP.)

Jane

I asked the resident gay about the color purple. She was clueless but thought maybe a bunch of gay guys in the '80's liked it. But she said purple has now been replaced by the rainbow. So no worries.

Sue Geraldo does the same thing for me. Hie appearance reminds me it is time to take a shower.

Extraneus

Schmidt and Wallace are professional guns-for-hire in campaign politics. They have no loyalty except to their bank accounts. This is a common DC business practice.

Maybe for Republican candidates, but I don't see much evidence that Democrats have this loyalty problem. If McCain had won, Schmidt and Wallace would have been his Carville and Begalla, his Axlerod and Plouffe, right? Those guys aren't just hired guns; they're true believers, still fighting decades later.

Has any Democrat political guru ever been as disloyal as Schmidt and Wallace? Not even voting for the candidate? Democrats would have had them killed, just to make an example of them.

Ignatz

There is a website called "purple roofs" or some such that promotes those B&B inns that are owned by homosexuals.

Cecil and NK, (assuming this thread hasn't turned to carp)

I had a private conversation with a MOH roommate from the HH a few years back. I think it was maybe early in the primary season of '08. I asked him his thoughts about supporting/voting for McAmnesty. All I got was a jaw clenching stare, like 'don't go there.'
