Jimmyk, the 49 AGs have created a way for that profit to disappear.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/guest-post-who-really-paying-25-billion-tbtf-mortgage-settlement

"Placing the costs of the settlement on the very investors who are an integral part of the private label MBS market is NOT a way to instill confidence."

Summary

It's hard to believe that such decisions are being made on such a hot button issue. I suppose the general public sees the $25bil stick and assumes the Banks are being appropriately punished. In reality it is quite the scam. The Attorney Generals and White House look like they are dropping the hammer on evil Wall Street TBTF banks while simultaneously sticking up for the average American borrower. The banks pretend they're paying the price for past sins (with the money of the victims, the investors)".

Chubby

in his post, Charles Johnson says he thinks PF is nuts...

but he supports Obama?

He obvioulsy must disbelieve that there is any connection between the two men.

Between Genet (thank you Clarice) and Ayers, who else wrote about the "struggle" in terms of racial injustice? or was Ayers the first to make that correlation?

rse

Well I am back from one of my global internet treks and BO is doing quite a bit we would all have trouble stomaching through intl entities we haven't heard of. All seems to lead back to holdren. Yuck. Not a surprise but worse than imagined.

I need to go think about something else. Really abrogates every aspect of representing the American people.

NK

Pagar-- excellent summary of the "$25B"; it's a sad and cynical con game.

rse

james a banks, chubby.

Ignatz

--I was thinking about your "Render unto Caesar" post. I have not gone back and confirmed, but as I am remembering it, you attributed the thought to St. Paul?--

Nope, chub.
I attributed that to Christ and then said Paul expanded on it with his admonition for Christians to obey the civil authorities.

Clarice

chubby, as far as I can recall marxists cruise about seeking new groups to persuade of their victimhood and need to overthrown the established order everywhere they can. Genet took the anti-colonial movement and theatrically linked it to race. I am certain he was not alone in this. Other such movements are the womens rights movement, the pro Muslim movement in Europe and here and the Hispanic movements.

What I am saying is that Genet was merely one of the first to do so in drama but not the first or last to do so on or off the stage.

Ignatz

--Ignatz - are you saying you need help for that?--

Not at all Alice.
I find and post some most excellent pics all by myself, but if anyone does want to help I certainly won't discourage them. :)
Just make sure it's after business hours, PST, for Centracal's sake.

Chubby

rse

is the overriding motive of James A. Banks to bring down the "empire" ? his educational ideas as a means not end?

rse

clarice-That's really what said did as well and we know he was a BO mentor at columbia. Bad guys all over world report being influenced by said.

Yuck.

Chubby

thanks very much for the correction Ignatz.

rse

Yes. For the schemers education is always a means. Just like climate change or AGW.

It is we funders who naively see ed or cc as an end.

OldTimer

I wonder if Romney reads ZH articles and conservative blogs like JOM, and if his researchers have any interest in CRT and the Prairie Fire manifesto, or Barry's life-long dark side. Of course they would have to be deadly serious about saving us from the Marxist corruption currently running amok throughout our political and economic system of governance. Are they serious about defeating BHO? Or does Mitt and his crack campaign team still believe their foolish statements that Barry's "just not up to the job" and Mitt's "private sector business experience" will save us from doom?

narciso

And it really predates Marxism, with the Rousseaian "peoples will's that animated the French Revolution, the same with the Narodniki
in Czarist Russia, the anarchists in fin de siecle France, that arose out of the Canal
scandal and the '93 crash.

jimmyk

Jimmyk, the 49 AGs have created a way for that profit to disappear.

pagar, my point was that there is no profit to begin with--the government is taking money out of one pocket and putting it in another, calling the second pocket "profit," and when you start to ask about where the money comes from, they say "Look, a squirrel!" It's the same as with the "profit" on GM stock coming from tax credits.

I haven't had time to try to wade through the morass of this agreement with the AGs, but it does seem bizarre that banks can write down the principal of mortgages they don't own. Especially if as a result they get a capital gain on the ones they do own.

Chubby

rse,

while ayers did think a lot about means he was predominantly ainterested in "ends". I think there are a lot of good people who get caught up in the means, thinking they sound "just" or "fair" or whatever, but have no clue what end they are buying into. Those would be the "useful idiots". I am just trying to figure out which type Banks is. Hardcore, like Ayers, or just along for the "justice" ride without really knowing where it is ultimately going.

Captain Hate

Or does Mitt and his crack campaign team still believe their foolish statements that Barry's "just not up to the job" and Mitt's "private sector business experience" will save us from doom?

I don't see any backing off from the "no hair on fire" strategery although they might be depending on Noot and Palin to carry their water on that. TBH I don't see Willard being comfortable in a hardass role.

narciso

I took a glance at Said's first book, on Conrad and Autobiography, based on his Harvard Ph'd, inpenetrable, insufferable,

"and then said Paul expanded on it with his admonition for Christians to obey the civil authorities."

The BBC Chief says that is why Christians can be attacked anytime by anyone.

"To sum up, 1) We don't run shows making fun of the prophet because Muslims might kill us; 2) Christianity doesn't rate protections because Christians won't try to kill us if we make fun of them; and 3) Christians should shut up and take it.

Well, Romney was the one who at long last was able to rid us of the Corrupt Midget.

narciso

No, Chubby, I think you have that backwards,
we can agree on the ends, Peace, Justice, it's
the ends that get kind of sticky.

Chubby

narciso, do you think the muddle who thinks Obama is a stand up guy are aware of his ends? they surely support his means, freebies, etc., but do they really support a new idea of America, or even understand what that means?

Dave (in MA)

He also took out Fat Matt.

Chubby

Rick Ballard

OldTimer,

Why should Governor Romney risk eliciting sympathy for a manifest failure among the Feeling Muddle by noting that he's been a commie since birth? The Feeling Muddle cares not a whit about BOzo's red roots but they are just dumb enough to form a protective huddle should Governor Romney be effectively painted as mean.

I believe that governor Romney has a very good understanding of the Feeling Muddle and I do not anticipate him running the risk of alienating the dolts who will decide the election.

If you're a drunk, corrupt bum like Matt Amorello, there's always the solar energy business:

From Wiki:
"hen he was appointed chairman of the Turnpike Authority in 2002, Amorello, a longtime state senator from Grafton, inherited the Big Dig project that was billions of dollars over budget and years past the original completion date. His task was to get it finished and he did. A year later he was cutting the ribbons to open both the north and south sides of the Thomas P. O’Neill Jr. tunnels, and the I-90 Connector Tunnel but by 2005, both tunnels were leaking.

Amorello was also criticized for a failure to hold contractors accountable for mistakes on the project and drew criticism for accepting a Man of the Year award from a group of contractors.

In 2008, Amorello’s wife of 12 years divorced him. That same year, he appeared before the State Ethics Commission to answer charges that he violated conflict-of-interest laws by changing sick leave policy that would affect him. He was later fined $2,000. Until his divorce, Amorello and his family lived in rural Wenham. In January, 2010, the bank forceclosed on the house the Amorellos purchased in 2001 for $595,000.

In 2009, Amorello and one of his brothers co-founded Mayo Renewable Energy, a company focusing on solar energy."

Some media reports have Manning ending up in Denver, and Elway unloading Tebow. The Boston Globe's Bob Ryan, filling in on the local sports talk station this morning, has Tebow likely ending up in New England not as a QB, but as a running back/fullback/option guy.

Historically, when Christianity has taken up its cross and concerned itself with the eternal, regardless of the temporal consequences, it has flourished.
When it has behaved as just another faith among many, seeking political favor and trying to make common cause with the state it has often gained earthly power, but its true mission has invariably suffered and been perverted.

Chubby,

Good catch but I had already read Prairie Fire a few years back. Didn't know it was available on line in pdf format until you posted it. Could have saved some money.

Its now pretty expensive but not so in 2009.

You can get them at Alibris if you want a soft cover or hard back.

"A new bill headed for a vote by a Tennessee House committee this week targets abortion providers by requiring the state’s Department of Health to publish detailed information about doctors on a public website.

Known as H.B. 3308, or the “Life Defense Act of 2012,” the bill would not actually level any real “defense” of human embryos. Instead, it would require the Tennessee Department of Health to publish more detailed information about abortions carried out in the state, including the names of doctors who performed them and the hospitals they work with."

ABC News reports:

This ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that Americans oppose the law overall by 52-41 percent. And 67 percent believe the high court should either ditch the law or at least the portion that requires nearly all Americans to have coverage. …

The law has never earned majority support in ABC/Post polls – and this update, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, finds a strong sense its critics are dominating the debate. Seventy percent of Americans report hearing mainly negative things about the law lately; just 19 percent say the buzz has been positive. Even among its supporters, 53 percent are hearing more negatives than positives. Among opponents this soars to 88 percent.

Intensity of sentiment is more negative as well: Forty-one percent strongly oppose the law, while only a quarter strongly support it.

NK

BenF @12:25-- obviously there is no problem with disclosing the ID of abortionists -- why would there be? aren't the abortionists proud of their trade and clientel? -- it's free advertising after all. This new law does pose a problem for political conservatives-- over the last 30 years, most abortionist Doctors have dropped out of the business. I assume that's because they find baby killing to be an unrewarding career path -- if this law passes and more Drs. drop abortions in Tenn., it will mean more money for the Planned Parenthood abortion mills. They already do 300,000+ abortions/year nationwide in those mills. This bill just eliminates competition further.

OldTimer

Ah, Ranger, I should have clarified. My interest isn't so much in Mitt making a big deal out of Barry's ideology publicly; rather that he is fully cognizant of the filthy weasels plotting to rip him apart once he gains the nomination and that he's prepared to quickly go on the offense. It would be nice also to see an animated Romney elucidate how American free markets compare to the Keynesian/Marxist/statist disasters foisted upon us by this administration.

NK

BenF-- pourquoi? I was a bit glib, but I'm quite serious. Mostly-- I don't believe in criminalizing immoral behavior that is victimless. So I support photographing and publicizing men going into strip joints which are in residential neighborhoods, wealthy people buying recreational drugs in poor neighborhoods, public workers goofing off or no-show on public payroll etc. Shaming immorality is welcome as far as I'm concerned. If a gyn-op has an abortion practice, what right to secrecy do they have? If it is a noble service, why would they be harmed by publicity? Seriously? well I know why, abortion is a shameful act for the woman and the abortionist, it is the height of immorality, killing the helpless to make life easier for the person with the power. That's why abortioists don't want publicity.

Jack is Back!

Ben Franklin

" That's why abortioists don't want publicity."

So you support outing them so they can be assassinated for their immorality?

Rick Ballard

James D.

It would be nice also to see an animated Romney elucidate how American free markets compare to the Keynesian/Marxist/statist disasters foisted upon us by this administration.

My worry is that, at heart, Mitt is perfectly happy with Keynesianism and statism, so long as his (presumably) more sober and competent hands are on the controls rather than Zero's.

Nothing he's said or done convinces me that he honestly believes in free markets, or making a serious effort to reduce the presence of government in our daily lives, or to make a real dent in federal spending.

Assuming he's the nominee, I'll support him and vote for him, because at his worst he'll be infinitely better than Zero, and he's much less likely to appoint the sorts of criminals and monsters to his Administration that Zero has.

But we're awfully far down the road that dead-ends at the cliff, and we're heading there really, really fast, and we need a President and an administration who won't just lightly tap the brakes, but actually try to turn the damn car around, and it's very difficult to believe that Romney is the man who will do that, or even recognize the necessity of it.

BenF@ 1:07-- how does assasination follow from identification? Do you oppose IDing bankers because an anarchist might assasinate them? No logic or ethic to your comment. Ben Franklin

NK; I find it hard to believe your are that naive.

March 10, 1993: Dr. David Gunn of Pensacola, Florida was fatally shot during a protest. He had been the subject of wanted-style posters distributed by Operation Rescue in the summer of 1992. Michael F. Griffin was found guilty of Gunn's murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

July 29, 1994: Dr. John Britton and James Barrett, a clinic escort, were both shot to death outside another facility, the Ladies Center, in Pensacola. Rev. Paul Jennings Hill was charged with the killings. Hill received a death sentence and was executed on September 3, 2003. The clinic in Pensacola had been bombed before and was also bombed subsequently, in 1984 and 2012.

December 30, 1994: Two receptionists, Shannon Lowney and Lee Ann Nichols, were killed in two clinic attacks in Brookline, Massachusetts. John Salvi was arrested and confessed to the killings. He died in prison and guards found his body under his bed with a plastic garbage bag tied around his head. Salvi had also confessed to a non-lethal attack in Norfolk, Virginia days before the Brookline killings.

January 29, 1998: Robert Sanderson, an off-duty police officer who worked as a security guard at an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, was killed when his workplace was bombed. Eric Robert Rudolph, who was also responsible for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing, was charged with the crime and received two life sentences as a result.

October 23, 1998: Dr. Barnett Slepian was shot to death with a high-powered rifle at his home in Amherst, New York.[10] His was the last in a series of similar shootings against providers in Canada and northern New York state which were all likely committed by James Kopp. Kopp was convicted of Slepian's murder after finally being apprehended in France in 2001.

May 31, 2009: Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed by Scott Roeder as Tiller served as an usher at church in Wichita, Kansas.[11]

Camille uses her brain for something other than to keep her head from imploding. Some of her celebrations of popular culture are waaaay over the top; but that's a subjective opinion and at least she's aware of artistic historical perspectives. Iggy;

The subject is; publishing names of Drs. We're talking about Tennessee creating a convenient hit list for every crackpot.

You don't stand with the nutz, do you?

Chubby

Cap, America would be a better place with more honest lefties like Kaus, Hitchens (RIP) and Paglia. I have no problme with honest disagreement, it is the deliberate hypocrisy that is poison imo.

Chubby

I can forgive Paglia a lot because of her admiration for Sarah Palin whom she gets, (and her mockery of the phoney feminists who hate Palin).

NK

BenF@1:56-- really bad moral relativism and sophistry. I'll assume that Ig --like me -- believes in sunshine laws to identify peoples' conduct. There are unintended consequences to every action-- In the Tenn. case Planned Parenthood will get more abortion customers -- unfortunate, but I'd live with that consequence because disclosure of the truth is the more important public interest. Could a criminal benefit from publicity? sure, but how does that criminal action make Ig and me complicit with 'nutz'? You share opinions with and associate with anti-semites-- does that make you an anti-semite? Sophistry.

Chubby

Nk

So, you want donors identified despite Citizens United?

Recognizing I am changing the subject, even though no one else is attempting to do so.

Just looking for the same consistent policy of transparency you display.

Captain Hate

Chubby, every time I get a chance to see Camille on tv I watch because I find her fascinating. She's a big Rush fan because she regards him as an entertainer and was furious at BOzo for his attacks and thin skin.

Ignatz

--Iggy;

The subject is; publishing names of Drs. We're talking about Tennessee creating a convenient hit list for every crackpot.

You don't stand with the nutz, do you?--

No, I stand with the bodies of the innocent.
My subject is remembering the bodies of the ones who never even received a name to publish or the ones who were promised a painless fix to their predicament by "doctors" and were permanently harmed or killed by these so called physicians.

NK

BenF-- No problem with the subject change, it's apt. I absolutely support political donation disclosure-- that's a rare ABSOLUTE on my part. Any donation to a politician, or any political PAC contribution should be disclosed on the internet THAT DAY. NO BAN on contributions-- Citizens United is correct. But unions, nonprofits, corporations and rich folks all have to disclose the influence they are buying. Let the influence buyers advertise, but let the voters decide by mandating disclosure of that advertising. Bush proposed internet posting in 2001-- Never went anywhere. Why? the thieving politicians-- they like secret funding. And the big unions, private companies and nonprofits like no disclosure, they can secretly influence (publicly traded corps have to disclose in publicly audited financials.) So I agree with Citizens United and also mandated disclosure.

Ben Franklin

I salute your consistency, NK

"Meanwhile, groups that aren't required to disclose their donors spent more than twice that -- about $140 million, according to the Center's research, on all their political messages reported to the FEC.

And rarely did these groups voluntarily opt to detail the source of their money."

Ben Franklin

"My subject..."

You made that clear. I still don't know where you stand on feeding the nutz.

Americana Alice (formerly known as AliceH)

Disclosing the names of those who paid for abortions would be the analogous action to disclosing those who DONATE to a PAC or politician.

Of all the above, I believe only one (public records on who donates how much to a specific politician) is currently required.

Ignatz

--You made that clear. I still don't know where you stand on feeding the nutz.--

Murderers and other lawbreakers should be punished.
People who access public records to publish abortionists names should no more be held accountable for some psycho's misbehavior than those who publish bankers or others names and addresses from public records.
