Daddy, Mrs K had CNN on here (to fall asleep to) and there were two pundits earnestly explaining how little control the President has over gas prices and over the economy more generally. Funny I don't remember people saying that in 2008, in particular the current occupant of the oval office, who ran on the premise that he could make everything better (in part by making gasoline more expensive). The sports hour sounds good by comparison.
The only benefit over here is that by pressing a button I can make CNN come across in Japanese so that I don't have to listen to such idiotic propaganda as you describe. I still have to deal with the visuals, but without the inane Lefty cheerleading commentary it is slightly less repulsive than normal.
That reminds me of a channel, we used to have in New Jersey, where I grew up, it was Spanish to 8 PM then it had programming in Japanese mostly cartoons, including anime like
Starblazer,
I remember when it was all black and white, you got a miximum of three channels on rabbit ears, and apart from Howdy Doody you could choose between Betty Boop cartoons and endless wrestling, mostly featuring Lou Thesz.
Just pulled into a motel in Statesville for the night and checked my brackets. Eek. WTH happened to FSU?
JiB. Prescient about the motorcycles headed north on Sunday. Left Atl at 11 and it was wall to wall RVs and trucks pulling cycle trailers. Got stuck in a parking lot style tie up on i77 over i40 for 2 hours as someone lost control of their trailer and then supposedly a bull was loose on the interstate. Seriously. A bull. Not sure if came from a pasture or if the bikers were bringing home their mascot. Straaange day.
So much for attempting to do the Atl-Charl-Atl trip in one day. 14 hrs I could handle, 16+ was a bit much.
sbw, I read your post on the win/lose thread and I think I understand it. But I need to kick it around a bit.
"My take is different than most: Individuals create society for their own benefit when they recognize why it is in their own interest. That is the reverse view of many political theorist back to Plato.
But why create society?
1) Because our mental map of reality is imperfect and others' perspectives can be considered -- that is humility
2) Others are in the same fix we are in -- that leads to reciprocity.
On those two conclusions society and ethics are built."
Your #1 reason for creating society brings to mind Rumsfeld's known knowns, etc. . ., but in this case it's a known unknown, and the assumption is that people know that they don't know. I have become somewhat of a cynic lately and I wonder if there are a lot more people clinging to unknown knowns than we would like to believe. But I understand you're saying that people sooner or later figure out they don't know everything, may even figure out they don't know much, and seek alternative sources of knowledge (or perceptions of reality).
Thanks for the input. I need all the help I can get. I am definitely in known unknown category.
I am back at school getting ready for classes. One of my readings is this article on Keynes. Did Greenspan really say that? I guess I don't understand what caused the 2008 crisis. I thought the biggest problem was government interference in the housing market, the F-Macs.

rain-LUN is an article on paris and france today. Notice the "army of civil servants" lines that are a big part of what makes france stagnant and the spending unsustainable.
The desired explanation for the financial crisis is that it was about free markets and capitalism because the desired solution is more govt spending and picking economic winners and losers a la corporatism. If the real cause is acknowledged, the poison of the desired solution is readily apparent.

I enjoyed that video of Biden being booed in Pittsburgh, but I did feel a little sorry for him (he does that to me).
Some context from a local commenter at Breitbart:
As a proud Pittsburgh resident all I can say is - y'inz guys make me proud! Interestingly though, when Biden was walking down Grant Street which is where all the city and county government offices are, he was greeted by cheers and signs promoting he and Obozo - by orchestrated Democrat plants and local union hacks. It wasn't until he turned onto Stanwix Street that he encountered the real people of the area - and they left no doubt what they though of him and his boss. Good for them.
I believe the killing in France is the 3rd one in recent days of Jewish individuals by motorcycle assassins.
narciso,
Re: your earlier posts on Cuban spy organization. You know about the Cuban interrogators and torturers in North Vietnam, right? A lot of your POW's were subjected to Cuban run torture and interrogation. DoD kept it secret until, I believe, 1996 when it was revealed in a special congressional hearing.
Yes, I know of the 'Cuba Project' and their top person 'Fidel' who handled most of the prisoners at the Hanoi Hilton, if not McCain,
now reputedly a high Government minister in the Health Ministry,
Nothing says southwest Pennsylvania like y'inz. I'm not kidding when I say this: When I was working for the third rate utility, one of my responsibilities was making sure reports to the execs (think Ayers POS old man's types) from one of the Golden Boys who graduated from Ped State, didn't contain words like "y'inz".
Not really; he accused an innocent person who'd been driving a truck that his first wife pulled in front of and was killed of having been drinking even though there was no evidence of it in the police report; and the cops knew damn well who the person killed was. Don't be confused by his "aw shucks" garbage when he steps in it. He's a lowlofe POS who deserves every bit of abuse he gets and then some; he's never passed up an opportunity to take a shot at anybody whom his delusional mind opposes.
He could probably played by Stephen Tobolowsky
in the film, or maybe Jeffrey Tambor;
You know, no good deed goes unpunished;
she describes Palin in her memoir as someone with whom she enjoyed an “instant rapport” and an immediate “kinship,” as they talked about everything from their children and shoes to the hardships of being on the campaign trail.
“She was very friendly and gregarious. She signed books and took pictures with people. There was not one thing about her that was high maintenance,” Haley says.
When allegations from Folks first surfaced, Haley remembers having Palin in her corner after just one phone call – a contrast to the way another supporter, Romney, had handled the news.
“Sarah goes with her gut, and I love her for that,” she writes. “Mitt’s team [said] they were going to have a ‘Nikki Haley meeting’ the next morning to decide what to do next.”
Yes he is 'mostly harmless, in the big scheme of things, If she were as portrayed in the likes of that trash, recycled by Maggie Carlson, it would be like the coda from Resident evil.
The Cuban Program was run at Camp Cu Loc known as the "Zoo" between 67 and 69. The main torturers were Fidel and Chico.
You can read all about them in the definitive history of American POW's in Southeast Asia, "Honor Bound" by Rochester and Kiley.
As a footnote, one the guys who got the real deal from the Cubans was an Air Force 105 driver named Don Waltman. Later in his life he became the CO of our base in Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, UK. I own his croquet set that he never got to use because he was so busy being occupied by the "Greenham Common Women" protesting our tactical nuclear weapons he never got a chance to use. Go to my link and you'll find it under "World of Sports".
it seems even more remarkable to see him booed in an urban neighborhood in his home state.
I doubt that Pittsburgh is doing much better than Cleveland is under El JEFe, if at all. Keep in mind that the green energy garbage really kicks SW Pa in the nads. Pittsburgh had quite a few Reagan Democrats iirc and they will vote with their wallets when times are tough.
You don’t know my telephone number, but I hope your staff is busy trying to find it. Ever since you called Sandra Fluke after Rush Limbaugh called her a slut, I figured I might be next. You explained to reporters you called her because you were thinking of your two daughters, Malia and Sasha. After all, you didn’t want them to think it was okay for men to treat them that way:
“One of the things I want them to do as they get older is engage in issues they care about, even ones I may not agree with them on,” you said. “I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens.”
And I totally agree your kids should be able to speak their minds and engage the culture. I look forward to seeing what good things Malia and Sasha end up doing with their lives.
But here’s why I’m a little surprised my phone hasn’t rung. Your $1,000,000 donor Bill Maher has said reprehensible things about my family. He’s made fun of my brother because of his Down’s Syndrome. He’s said I was “f—-d so hard a baby fell out.” (In a classy move, he did this while his producers put up the cover of my book, which tells about the forgiveness and redemption I’ve found in God after my past – very public — mistakes.)
If Maher talked about Malia and Sasha that way, you’d return his dirty money and the Secret Service would probably have to restrain you. After all, I’ve always felt you understood my plight more than most because your mom was a teenager. That’s why you stood up for me when you were campaigning against Sen. McCain and my mom — you said vicious attacks on me should be off limits.
Yet I wonder if the Presidency has changed you. Now that you’re in office, it seems you’re only willing to defend certain women. You’re only willing to take a moral stand when you know your liberal supporters will stand behind you.
But…
What if you did something radical and wildly unpopular with your base and took a stand against the denigration of all women… even if they’re just single moms? Even if they’re Republicans?
I’m not expecting your SuperPAC to return the money. You’re going to need every dime to hang on to your presidency. I’m not even really expecting a call. But would it be too much to expect a little consistency? After all, you’re President of all Americans, not just the liberals.
He's a lowlofe POS who deserves every bit of abuse he gets and then some; he's never passed up an opportunity to take a shot at anybody whom his delusional mind opposes.
Yeah, okay, but I feel kinda bad for him, too. After all, he has to go through life stupid and ineffectual . . . surely that's punishment [enough?].
Today's WSJ has a story (possibly behind the pay wall) about Treasury supposedly making a $25B profit on it's purchases and sales of mortgage-backed securities. But buried in the story is this:
[A]gency mortgage-backed bonds have risen in value and spreads have narrowed. Investors have been attracted to the mortgage assets because they offer better returns than other government bonds while presenting similarly low risk, thanks to the government's backing of Fannie and Freddie.
(my emphasis)
Sounds to me like yet another shell game: Taxpayers bail out one entity, and another one gets to report a "profit." If the comments are any indication, the WSJ readers don't seem to be fooled by this.
Mooch will be on Letterperv tonight. They tape those things in advance but I'm not sure how far. Anyway they had promos for it all throughout March Madness featuring photos of her but not on the set. The gap-toothed workplace sex offender in his dotage can't help from saying really stupid things on the air; I'm wondering if he'll be kept on a very tight leash. And if we'll be treated to the lighthearted and pleasant version of Worf.
Captain, the gap-toothed douche tapes his show at 5:30.
That makes sense because usually in his opening monologue he talks about something in the news from earlier in the day. When CBS runs promos over the weekend with clips of guests on the set, those must be from previous appearances.
That is Don Waltman all-right. A true fighter jockey.
His wife Marian is in a nursing home in London (if still alive). Last time I communicated with his daughter, Nancy, was 2006. She was living in London near Tower Bridge back then. I think he was one of the top 10 longest serving POWs in Viet Nam. But he wasn't at HH rather he got the short straw and went to The Zoo.
When we had Charlie Stackhouse at the house for a pre-Vets day reception, Mike Christian's widow came up from Cocoa and attended. The stories made you want to weep, smile, laugh and cringe all at the same time.
When Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr told his father "he would rather see the American not the North Vietnamese get shot"
I'll bet he knew about the "the Cubans in NV"
When William Ayers and John Kerry were running around the US demonstrating in favor of the North Vietnamese and the torture of American military, I feel sure they knew about the Cuban torture.
IMO, When these individuals stand up and tell you they are against torture- They lie.

I lived in London during the time Saatchi was promoting that vile and silly Tracey Emin and idiot Damian Hirst. Enough said about him and his taste in art.
Another interesting detail from Wiener's FBI
inquest, he say in the text, that the Bureau didn't have any informants in theWeatherman,
clearly he ignores the likes of Grauholz (sic)
who has described Ayer's plans to the letter,
Pat Aufderheide, director of American University’s Center for Social Media and board member of Kartemquin Films and a former ITVS board member, said in a telephone interview that she did not understand “why PBS wants to be seen as effectively throwing these series under the bus” when some in Congress are questioning public broadcasting’s federal financing.
The series, she said, “scream validation of taxpayer dollars,” by engaging local communities and respectfully exploring underreported issues. That claim, she added, cannot be made by the recent PBS hit, the British drama “Downton Abbey.”
Independent Lens and POV are the ones feeling the pinch. Just coincidentally I'm sure, these are some of the leftest-leaning programming on PBS.
That Prairie Fire pdf file is well worth the read. Combine that with Rules for Radicals and CRT and you have the Obama Manifesto in spades (can I use that word?) Good find, Chubby.

A lot of your POW's were subjected to Cuban run torture and interrogation. DoD kept it secret until, I believe, 1996 when it was revealed in a special congressional hearing.

Bristol Palin: Mr. President, when do I get my phone call?
Good question.
Posted by: Jack is Back! | March 19, 2012 at 09:13 AM

Biden seems like a well intentioned moron.

He could probably played by Stephen Tobolowsky
in the film, or maybe Jeffrey Tambor;
You know, no good deed goes unpunished;
she describes Palin in her memoir as someone with whom she enjoyed an “instant rapport” and an immediate “kinship,” as they talked about everything from their children and shoes to the hardships of being on the campaign trail.

No.

NK,
The Cuban Program was run at Camp Cu Loc known as the "Zoo" between 67 and 69.

Bravo: A letter from Bristol Palin
Dear President Obama,
You don’t know my telephone number, but I hope your staff is busy trying to find it.

Today's WSJ has a story (possibly behind the pay wall) about Treasury supposedly making a $25B profit on it's purchases and sales of mortgage-backed securities. But buried in the story is this:
(my emphasis)Sounds to me like yet another shell game: Taxpayers bail out one entity, and another one gets to report a "profit." If the comments are any indication, the WSJ readers don't seem to be fooled by this.

That makes sense because usually in his opening monologue he talks about something in the news from earlier in the day. When CBS runs promos over the weekend with clips of guests on the set, those must be from previous appearances.

narciso,
That is Don Waltman all-right.
