House Republicans plan a contempt citation for Eric Holder, which naturally calls to mind the old Mae West line from My Little Chickadee with WC Fields:
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court?
M West: Your honor, I was doing my best to hide it.
With Holder and the House Republicans the feeling is mutual.
In a related Fast and Furious development an AAG is moving on.
The more I know of this administration, the better I like the way dogs taste.

I'm beginning to think that Diocletian, one of my Fav Roman Emperors, had a pretty good idea back in 293 AD.
That's when he decided that the former Roman Republic was just too big to handle for one guy, so he decided he needed a co-Emperor to handle some of the pressing duties.
I'm pretty sure we're at the same point, so I suggest that Obama announce that for the Nov 2012 Election, we vote for a President to do the job of Commander in Chief, and also vote for a co-President to do the comedy shows and the College Campi and Golf Outings and the Rolling Stone Interviews.
For the record, Diocletian was initially into treating Christians like an EPA Region VI Director, but by the time he retired in 305 he had got over it.

I love the title of this thread because it summarizes how I feel about Holder. That he is still in office is a definite loser for Obama. I bet his continued prescence costs Obama many many votes. People dislike his arrogance, racism and high-handedness. Boehner is smart. Get all your repub ducks in a row and then strike- Preferably near election time when the public is paying attention. Holder under the bus in 3 months. He is a political liability. No deal will be struck because he has pissed everybody off.

Progressive Democrats -- an oxymoron if there ever was one.
Few realize the Democratic Socialists of America are the only official affiliation of the Socialist Internationale, and the only SI affiliation among the officially sanctioned SI political parties of other nations that is not itself a national political party. Further, the USA is the only major nation without an officially sanctioned SI affiliated political party -- the only one. Go figure?
The DSA spawned The New Party, of which our president, Barack Obama apparently first ran for elective political office.
Today the DSA dominates the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Blaque Caucus. Both appear to be 5th Column infiltrations sponsored in part by the SI and seeking to change our government form and structure to conform to the SI-supported global model of interwoven national governments, doing so in material deference to our national sovereignty; and not very transparently.
But such progressivism is circa 1840 "progressive" and the birther of heinous things like Phrenology which masquerade as establish science. The SI affiliates and sycophants have long history promoting such 'established science' Karl Popper characterized as "scientism."
What do we see today infiltrating and usurping control of the national Democratic Party? Who has taken control of the DNC and the present government hegemony controlled by same?
1. Carpetbaggers
2. Parlor Bigots
3. An emerging postmodern mafia of insiders
As one former official of the former Soviet Union once confided to me: "One can only properly understand progressive socialism in one way. One must learn to see it as a grand criminal conspiracy to understand how it really works. Socialism is Mafia conducted as local, state and national government. The term 'communism' was just a distraction to blind the west to the creeping ennui of the utopian international socialist movement, just as Beria intended"
We still underestimate the genius of Beria and the depth of the damage done via his operatives (Alinsky, for one) to our national culture and national mental health.

Save a little contempt for Obama
Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.
Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. His campaign brands you a Romney donor, shames you for “betting against America,” and accuses you of having a “less-than-reputable” record. The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money.
Are you worried?
Richard Nixon’s “enemies list” appalled the country for the simple reason that presidents hold a unique trust. Unlike senators or
congressmen, presidents alone represent all Americans. Their powers—to jail, to fine, to bankrupt—are also so vast as to require restraint. Any president who targets a private citizen for his politics is de facto engaged in government intimidation and threats. This is why presidents since Nixon have carefully avoided the practice.
Save Mr. Obama, who acknowledges no rules. This past week, one of his campaign websites posted an item entitled “Behind the curtain: A brief history of Romney’s donors.” In the post, the Obama campaign named and shamed eight private citizens who had donated to his opponent. Describing the givers as all having “less-than-reputable records,” the post went on to make the extraordinary accusations that “quite a few” have also been “on the wrong side of the law” and profiting at “the expense of so many Americans.”
These are people like Paul Schorr and Sam and Jeffrey Fox, investors who the site outed for the crime of having “outsourced” jobs. T. Martin Fiorentino is scored for his work for a firm that forecloses on homes. Louis Bacon (a hedge-fund manager), Kent Burton (a “lobbyist”) and Thomas O’Malley (an energy CEO) stand accused of profiting from oil. Frank VanderSloot, the CEO of a home-products firm, is slimed as a “bitter foe of the gay rights movement.”

It beclowns itself.
Under Bush there was an effort to investigate and prevent the running of guns to Mexican drug cartels.
Under Obumbles guns were bought with US stimulus funds and given to Mexican drug cartels in order to manufacture evidence that would support a crackdown on private gun ownership in this country.

Under Obumbles guns were bought with US stimulus funds and given to Mexican drug cartels in order to manufacture evidence that would support a crackdown on private gun ownership in this country.
The Wan's administration ORDERED dealers to make illegal sales. This wasn't just on the border; at least one Indianapolis dealer was being investigated for "unusually large numbers of crime guns" coming from their store until their lawyers reminded the ATF that the sales had been OK'd/ordered to go through by ATF agents.
"Not enough people to regulate" doesn't explain why people were ordered (by the regulatory body that could destroy their livelihood) to make illegal sales.
Posted by: Rob Crawford | April 27, 2012 at 04:54 PM
Correct in all you wrote Rob. However do not forget that in one case 10 million in stimulus funds were used to fund a scheme in which federal agents gave money to "confidential informants" to buy weapons which were then passed on to cartel members.
Posted by: Have Blue | April 27, 2012 at 05:00 PM

"But his cabbages were supposedly divine."
Rob,
Years back I visited the remains of his palace in Split Yugoslavia, where he wrote letters about those cabbages. That was a point that always intrigued me about him, both that he voluntarily left office instead of being murdered by rivals, and that he took such delight in growing vegetables. I have a soft spot for the ruthless old pragmatist.
I thought it interesting in a recent bio of Constantine, that apparently Constantine was held in essence as a hostage by Diocletian to prevent Junior Emperor of the east Constantius (Constantine's dad) from getting out of hand. The book said Diocletian took a liking to Constantine and gave him big responsibility and trained him well by giving him various military and civil commands.
Book seemed to say, because the history was vague, that suspicion is that Constantine fled from under Diocletian's thumb and made it up to England to join his dad, where upon his dad's death in I think 306, Constantine was declared the new co-Emperor by his dad's troops.
A fascinating time in history all around.

It's left unclear, but it might Lenski who is the source, who knew late Roman history
was so interesting,
Constantine was held as something of a hostage, a tool to ensure Constantius' best behaviour. Constantine was nonetheless a prominent member of the court: he fought for Diocletian and Galerius in Asia, and served in a variety of tribunates; he campaigned against barbarians on the Danube in 296, and fought the Persians under Diocletian in Syria (297) and under Galerius in Mesopotamia (298–99).[43

Jane's the one that coined the concept into the now universally accepted "LUN"

JMax was a senior at the University of North Carolina and was an All-American captain of the soccer team on the reigning national championship team. She was included in a national contest to determine the female college soccer player of the year -- and GMax solicited our help. We voted our hearts out,but alas JMax didn't win.
But I did.
I went to the UNC 8-1 victory over High Point University that fall of 2007 with my family. I got to meet GMax and JMax after the game -- along with my little princess hit and run, who still talks about JMax to this day.

Pressure seems to be building. And, I suspect that if Holder and his DoJ don't back down and start to provide the requested documents, that we may well see him found in contempt of Congress.
Talking heads yesterday pointed out that it would likely be hard to get from the contempt of Congress to actually getting the documents. Can't really take the contempt citation or whatever from Congress to the DoJ or a US Attorney and expect them to enforce it against their boss. But... That isn't what is really important here. Rather, I see Contempt of Congress here like Bill Clinton getting found in contempt of court and having his law license suspended for 5 years. i.e. "The Obama Administration was so corrupt that its Attorney General was found in Contempt of Congress for covering up the scandals in his department". Not what the Obama people want to see plastered everywhere, esp. after claiming to be the most transparent Administration in history when they ran four years ago. Try maybe the most corrupt of our lifetimes.
