Mark Latrine played clips of this speech. He pointed out the conflict of Obama's narrative. With a near 1% income he struggled to pay off his loan, yet he is compelled to increase the taxes on anyone who has a similar income, making it even harder to pay off their loans.

This young Obama fellow sounds like a humble, hard working guy who had to make his own breaks in life.
I don’t understand why the press doesn’t like him.

Because he's a race hustler and race baiter who wants to take away guns, force people to become Muslims, Mormons, atheists or catholics. He also wants aid the Jews in their quest to control world banking.
Then there is the war against Christmas.

At just the right moment - for example, today - Romney should ask Obama for evidence of their student loans.
You know? He's right. They're just like anyone who got a free ride to Colombia, Princeton and Harvard.Posted by: Extraneus | April 25, 2012 at 10:48 AM
'Bam's theme dujour (war on women, and do nothing Congress having been the proverbial lead balloons) is STUDENT LOANS!!. OK let's see, 'Bam ran in 2008 on the bad economy caused by --oh yes-- to much debt. Now to entice voters he's urging that we give students-- MORE DEBT. Madness. On top of that, why are students taking too much debt in the first place-- high tuition at monopolistic universities. Universities which are run by greedy, fat and content LEFTIST academics and administrators. So lefty academics price fix tuition and fees, and then a Leftist POTUS urges that the rest of us subsidize loans to pay price fixed tuition, which student loans will default in the near future. This is Orwellian 1984 (or Chicago)
Posted by: NK | April 25, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Romney won't do that because he does not want to come off like a wack job.

A nice post on NRO yesterday about the actual scope and impact of Obama's "Don't Double My Rate" (student loan) tour.
This is the middle bit, but the rest is good, too:
"...the president’s plan would apply only to those 23 million loans being borrowed directly from the federal government. Except that not all of those would benefit; it would apply only to the 9.5 million loans being borrowed through the so-called subsidized Stafford loans. Except the lower rate would apply only to new borrowers who apply this year. Except that no payments are made until after graduation, so it would not help anyone for several years. Except that it would lower monthly payments by an average of only $7."

Posted by: Ignatz | April 25, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Barry/Moose loans-- It's possible they racked up $120K in loans between them for Havard Law School. 6 years combined tuition plus living expenses would have been about $200K; if 50% of that came from HLS aid and summer work, that leaves them borrowing about $120K. I could see that.

Obama has never worked a day in his life - and that includes the last 3 years as far as I'm concerned. He has never struggled and my guess is if he took out loans they were to pay for coke and other pass times. He went to expensive private schools and traveled the world. There were no Saturdays working at McDonalds in his biography.
I wonder if the Obamas will be the first first couple to ever divorce after the white house. It always seems like Michelle can hardly wait.

Going to Harvard Law, racking up big debt, is usually not a problem because they go into big firms and make big bucks and pay it back. The same goes for physicians who then get out of school, work their a$$es off, and pay back their loans. The problems is when they decide not to practice their profession. There are many reasons they decide not to practice such as they are crazy, not terribly bright, lazy, or natural born screw-ups. Whining about being too poor to pay back their Harvard loans just indicates they didn't want to work hard enough to do it.
Posted by: Bob | April 25, 2012 at 11:45 AM

Posted by: AliceH | April 25, 2012 at 11:51 AM
"Moose got herself an AA job at a big firm". Yep but she didn't stay long enough to rise through the ranks to make much. That takes a little time and you have to pay your dues and do the unglamorous grunt work. I think she split for Da Mayor's office and while her legal training may have been beneficial she was not in the city attorney's office.
Also Obama is the only Harvard Law Reviewer that did not get a clerkship that I have ever heard of. Did he not apply, get turned down, what? That experience in invaluable in whatever direction you choose to go.

Obama never worked anywhere very long and almost all of it was part-time. The Challenge thing, Illinois lege, teaching night school was all part-time and seldom with a full time job and doing all of the community stuff which is what most young Harvard lawyers do. If you wrote a time line and how much time each job required it aint't much. Those of us who worked 60 hour weeks until we were 40, and cut back to 50 hours until we were 50 are not impressed especially if someone like Obama is "poor mouthin'".

"I understand he didn't apply" for a Clerkship. Let's just say that Obama was the "odd man out" as Harvard Law Review President. Those dudes--and dudettes--are virtually guaranteed a Supreme Court Clerkship. I won't say that the Supremes have an NFL style draft lottery to see who snags this year's President of the Harvard Law Review, but it comes close.
If a student is really good at a top law school (I went to Boalt at UC Berkeley) the law profs will be singing his or her praises to their connections on the Supreme Court or in prestigious Circuit Courts of Appeal. It's all part of "promoting the brand". In my day the top guy at Boalt was automatically offered a Supreme Court Clerkship with Chief Justice Warren. Famed student lefty and future legal lefty star Michael Tigar was the exception in 1966. His political background made him a bit of a hot potato for Warren.
But it may all be explained by the use of the word "apply". Barack Obama is basically a lazy sod. Whatever his intellectual talents may be (and there is some question about what he actually possessses in that regard) he just doesn't want to work very hard.
As Molly Ivins said about George Bush, "Shrub was born on third base and thought he hit a triple." Barack Obama was given the job as President of Harvard Law Review as an affirmative action candidate with a talent for schmoozing. Whether he ever had the intellectual capacity to do that job, he sure as hell didn't have the desire to work to that level. But he's managed to persuade a good chunk of the American Public that he had the ability to merit that job. Well if you can't blind them with brillance (somewhat beyond The Bamster's capacity) try bamboozling them with BS. That's the ticket! And that's the Obama Solution.
