Yes, by can mean at or to. especially if someone was talking about Gimbels or Schusters Dept stores.

I don't know about Stratfor's reputation. An article on the 2008 election and voting irregularities.
Also rumors about a large donation to Jesse Jackson and concerns about Russian money coming to the Obama campaign.
Plus allegations of vote fraud by Romney in voting for Scott Brown while not residing in Massachusetts. I expect to hear more about that from our trolls. :)
http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-04-20/news/31371888_1_voter-fraud-ballot-boxes-john-mccain
John McCain's 2008 campaign staff allegedly had evidence that Democrats stuffed ballot boxes in Pennsylvania and Ohio on election night, but McCain chose not to pursue voter fraud, according to internal Stratfor emails published by WikiLeaks.

Danube of Thought

I have disregarded everything from Stratfor for a long, long time.

OK. Now I get it. Thanks.

Captain Hate

Yes, Stratfor is pretty sketchy even when they try to pull me in by blasting McRino.

Okay, left for a few hours to go shovel out a nasty plant with a gazillion roots. Need a break and am going way off topic into a zone where people may yell and scream at me - but I am too tired to care :)

Anybody have a really "too die for" recipe for short ribs. I have a couple of recipes I am totally bored with (basically braised, in wine, with a mirepoix base). I still want to slow cook them in the oven, but I want a more teriyaki-like flavor - or something.

Okay, as you were, I am gonna go shovel some more dirt and nasty roots.

Jim,MtnViewCA,USA

get it done early, CC, it will be a hot one today....

centralcal

Yep, I am now officially done in the yard today - hot already, Jim.

centralcal, here is a marinated and roasted Korean-style barbecue recipe:

http://www.homecookingdiary.com/2008/04/galbi-korean-marinated-beef-ribs.html

I found it via a Google search so I can't vouch for it, but it looks good and easy.

daddy

Anyone have any opinions, predictions, or "must reads" on the Sarkozy Election in France tomorrow?

I don't, but thought I'd mention that last week when we had too brief a time in France to properly see Normandy, we rented a Citroen in Paris and drove like SpeedRacer back and forth to the coast. I was surprised to see so few speeders as we sped along like crazy on quite decent roads. Upon leaving Paris in the company Taxicab, we asked the driver why so few speeders, and he responded that France uses cameras to spot speeders, and that they don't even bother with Highway Patrol type cops. Instead you get a notice in the mail that points to your license have been deducted and you are ordered to pay a big fine calculated on how far above the posted speed limit you were traveling. Merde!!!

Oh well.

Anyhow, both the Taxi Driver and our Ops gal said they were angry with Sarkozy for how much he charges for speeding, and earlier a tour guide had lit into Sarkozy for ordering cops to arrest and fine Jaywalkers, but that in protest the Gendarmes refused to go along with the scam, so the guide had us all walk across the street against the light, and in front of a cop, in order to send a protest to Sarkozy.

Ignatz

This method looks like it produces some nice ribs, cc.
I was compelled to post that if for no other reason than to counter that previous page. :)

iqvoice

Centralcal-- here is my favorite slow-cooker ribs recipe

Rub:
3/4 tsp black pepper
3/4 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
3/4 tsp ground oregano
1 Tbsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 tsp white sugar

4 LB's babyback ribs

Combine rub ingredients, mix well. Cover all sides of ribs with rub. Place ribs upright, meaty side out in a 6 qt crockpot. (I usually pin them together with a few toothpicks.) Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours, or on high for 3 to 3.5 hours. Remove ribs and (optional) brush with your favorite bbq sauce.

I hardly ever add any bbq sauce, the ribs are great with just the rub. My vegetarian wife will use this same rub on tofu slabs, and saute them in oil. She says it is delicious.

Clarice

CC--I was out planting, too.

I love Korean short ribs--going to have some tonight.

Wms Sonoma has a number of recipes for them online, depending on hw you plan to cook them--Here's one that looks good. You may want to check out others to pick one more suitable foor the method you want to use and the ingredients you have at hand.

Okay, Ccal, I give up, whose picture did you post?

Captain Hate

Giant schnauzers are pretty big dogs (as the name would indicate); plus the points of their ears almost touch when they're confused or interested about something, making them look devilish.

Dana seemed to be on fairly good behavior until TM jabbed him for some reason and he fired back with a response that had "ban me please" written all over it.

Porchlight

What thread was that, Cap'n, do you remember?

Jack is Back!

daddy,

My SIL in Dax tells me that Sarkozy has only hope in the undecided's. There are close to 25% of the likely voters and still have not made up their minds. There is trepidation by those with jobs, incomes and pay taxes about bringing in Hollande and his socialist policies. They see Greece and Spain and that is a socialists template.

Even the left are somewhat iffy about whether France should swap out while the Euro economy is a basket case.

OT: We picked up Frederick's first puppy at the airport yesterday. Flew in from a breeder in Missouri. He is an 8 week old beagle and is adorable, funny, stubborn and currently sleeping in the crook of my arm as I type:) Will post a picture of Bandit later.

Ignatz

--Okay, Ccal, I give up, whose picture did you post?--

Peter that was Keith "Wide Receiver" Olbermann.

Captain Hate

My God, narc; that should be in the Weekly Standard's sporadic "Not a Parody" where something outdoes creative minds in spoofing. Although usually they go for something more concise, the overall unintentional gasbag humor shouldn't be ignored.

Porch, it was a Saint Trayvon thread from a couple nights ago iirc. I'll try to look it up but TM might have erased the response for gratuitous vulgarity; although it certainly made the decision easy for anybody to see.

AliceH

Hey - there's a Republican convention today in Utah which will determine whether Hatch wins the R nomination, or whether there's a primary of Hatch v. Mia Love, or whether against the odds, Mia Love locks it up.

It's top story on Legal Insurrection right now.

narciso

And he's the Ombudsman, 'just nuke it from orbit, the only way to be sure' the problem
wasn't so much the plagiarism, although she
could have used a note from the original source, but the premise of her purloined piece.

Porch this was the thread and his response has been sent to innerwebbz Hell: http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2012/04/the-wsj-on-stand-your-ground/comments/page/2/#comments

AliceH

whoops - I got that wrong. There will be a primary - Hatch v Liljenquist. Cut/paste from LI (in LUN):

"UPDATE (2:40pm): The results from the race for U.S. Senate are in. Hatch received 57.2% of the vote, Liljenquist followed with 28.8%. This means that the two will face off in a primary this June for the nomination. All other candidates failed to secure the requisite amount of votes to be added to the primary ballot."

Captain Hate

narc, the ombudsman's "explication" of the situation makes a bunch of substance abusing Jesuits mere pikers when it comes to casuistry.

Captain Hate

Peter that was Keith "Wide Receiver" Olbermann.

He does look like a fat lezzo that Tammy Bruce would mock for not caring enough about her appearance.

Yesterday being National Smoking Pot Day, a Wasilla Refinery introduced Hemp Seed Vodka. Little vampirella action from the salesgal in the pic, tho' it looks like she might have some hot ribs.

This follows Wasilla's other great Vodka favorites, Smoked Salmon Flavored Vodka, and Rhubarb Vodka.

Me?

I'm holding out for their forthcoming "Dog Vodka", since I've always been into drinking the hair of the dog of the hair of the dog that bit ya'.

Frau Wau-Wau

Good WSJ find on Hiss, narciso. I liked this bit:
"Consider the experience of Morton Sobell, an engineer who was a co-defendant in the espionage case involving Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. After more than 55 years of loudly proclaiming his innocence and that of the Rosenbergs, Mr. Sobell finally confessed in 2008. What did his longtime supporters do? They switched from declaring him innocent to justifying his espionage—the wartime spying, they said, had been done to aid an ally, the Soviets, or to fight fascism. Does anyone doubt that if Alger Hiss had owned up to his crimes, many of these same people would have made a similar pivot?."

rse

daddy-Dan Mitchell endorsed the Socialist candidate to get rid of the illusion that what Sarkozy is pushing is not statist and dirigiste as well.

clarice-thanks for that treehouse link. That rings true.

In some ways maybe GZ is better off with Corey's overcharge in that it drew so much attention on the outrageousness of the prosecution.

Manslaughter still doesn't fit but people would not have felt the outrage and compelled to keep pulling at the constructed narrative.

Now with bail he should be able to survive a compulsion to plead as long as there's a defense fund.

AliceH

re: UTAH convention... Correction to corrected post. Heck, just go to LI (LUN) and read the updates if you are interested!

Frau Wau-Wau

TypePest would not let me post the Lucianne dog pic yesterday. After three tries, I gave up. It also ate some of my other non-essential remarks. Today, I put the photo on the Trayvon thread whereupon all comment ceased. Am I TK's lost lost aunt?

jimmyk

Old TImers regularly say "by" for what we'd say "at".

I always that that was a Yiddish thing, but maybe it's German too.

GMax

They dont call him TK for nuttin'!

Clarice

Frau, the Typepad she's a bit off the past few days. I'm sure it's nothing personal.

Clarice

jimmyk,, Yiddish is mostly German just as Ladino is mostly Spanish.

Ignatz

I've never disappointed a Frau yet;

jimmyk

Iggie, I'm not sure being anti-TARP was a minority view here. I didn't favor it either, for much the same reasons--the precedent, the moral hazard, etc. I just don't see why the standard approach of letting the institutions fail but having, as Narc suggested, an RTC-like agency set up to help sell off the assets, wouldn't have worked. Granted these were larger institutions, but all the more reason not to set the TBTF precedent.

daddy

"They switched from declaring him innocent to justifying his espionage"

Frau,

That reminds me of a line in I think a recent Clarice's Pieces (which I can't seem to find darnit) where the 2 guilty Italians are about to be executed, and when someone tries to stop it, somebody else says something like, "Are you crazy, what good are they to us alive that would override their propaganda value as dead martyrs?

Whatever pushes the narrative along I suppose.

JiB,

Interesting on the Sarkozy thing, and a nice choice for a pup for young Frederick.

centralcal

Hey all, thanks for the recipes - I printed them ALL out. Will prepare the short ribs tomorrow with one or a combination recipe from you guys. I about killed myself digging and hacking. Thinking shower, cocktails (a little later) and a very simple dinner for tonight :)

I can't believe how many didn't recognize Keith - I even gave a clue "K.O." below the photo. I think it looks JUST LIKE HIM. Big, flabby, gaseous blowhard.

Awww, I've been babysitting a yorkeepoo all week, who I returned an hour ago. We are in love.

My last dog was half beagle and half bulldog - absolutely the cutest thing I've ever seen. Her name was Esme (with love and squalor)

Jack is Back!

Kim,

This pup is parvo proof. His health certificate is longer than mine;) He has already chased 3 gecko's, sniffed out a fire ant pile, met a black racer and found some possum poop. A real scenthound. H

centralcal

...met a black racer...

I'm thinking that must be a snake, not a guy on a bike?

Jack is Back!

cc,

Its a snake. The best of all snakes since it eats up all the bad snakes. He has a special place in our pool area. Like a kind of watch snake you might say:)

daddy

Jack,

I would have thought what with you and Frederick living down there in swamp country, you might have decided on a different variety pet.

Frau Wau-Wau

"...fund raising would be Jon "vaporizor" Corzine."

Would that be Jon "Will work for pardon" Corzine?

Frau Wau-Wau

I have a favorite stamp in my collection: Mit Luv 2 You. I can use it on domestitc intercontinental and international mail to Germany.

Well I guess one nice thing Frau, is that since Holder was Mark Rich's Attorney, he's already familiar with how to pardon crooks.

Frau Wau-Wau

Thanks, Iggy. You haven't failed us yet. There's more than lumber in your yard! ::wink::

Clarice

Frederick is one lucky kid.

Jack is Back!

daddy, we have plenty of those leathery guys in our ponds. My favorite is Archie who rules the lake down the way from our house. He has a special fondness for curious dogs and cats as well as the vagrant rabbit. Archie is the reason dogs are always kept on a leash and inside when not.

Having spent well over a quarter century perusing and evaluating uniformed male butts, I can attest that the very best was Kevin Costner's in Navy dress whites in the the movie "No Way Out."

Sara

Mitt Romney has accepted the invitation by Liberty University to be their commencement speaker.

Has anybody seen Caro around. Curious about her thoughts on Orrin Hatch.

Threadkiller

http://m.townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2012/04/20/issa_contempt_charges_on_their_way_for_holder

"Rep. Issa told me on Tuesday night to expect movement on the contempt charge towards A.G. Holder very soon.

“We’re going through a process,” said Congressman Issa. “That process is going to take weeks but not months more.”

In late January, Congressman Issa’s committee threatened contempt proceedings against Attorney General Eric Holder, if Mr. Holder failed to comply with his committee’s congressional subpoenas for the Fast and Furious documents by February 9."

More on Chuck Colson's passing, courtesy Brit Hume Tweet..

http://chuckcolson.org/?r=colson

Ignatz

Only God knows how many lives were turned around by Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship, but certainly many, many thousands.
To the very end many lefties hadn't even the human decency to admit the real good he'd done for people they ostensibly cry rivers of crocodile tears for, inmates.

Danube of Thought

"They switched from declaring him innocent to justifying his espionage"

For years Sen. Alan Cranston echoed the Soviet line that the Nazis were responsible for the Katyn Forest massacre. When the Soviets fessed up after the Iron Curtain fell, I wrote him and asked if he still blamed the Nazis.

No reply.

Jane

I think Caro might be traveling, but I'd bet she is thrilled about Hatch being primaried. On one trip to DC we went to see him, meeting his very young and cocky aids in his office. Caro engaged them about Hatch's vote for Cass Sunstein. The response: "the Senator doesn't listen to Glenn Beck". We left the office and Jean looked back and noticed they were laughing. She marched back in and berated them to the point where they were about to melt, reminding them that they and Hatch work for us, and they better think twice the next time they laugh at their bosses.

It was spectacular! And Hatch deserves this.

AliceH

Frau@6:21: Thanks for that. Does that status come with any $? FWIW, there have been developments since we gradually dispersed from WI, namely evidence of a possible key surname corruption (in the early 1800's) suggesting a spelling change of what was clearly once a German surname.

OldTimer

I'm with Caro! I too am a Utah resident and Hatch's votes over the years for and with libs, and his cushy relationship with turncoat Ted has infuriated me. Out! He needs to go..

Captain Hate

For some inexplicable reason, Mark Levin has a soft spot in his head for Hatch. Awesome move by Caro; dear God that sounds like something people wish they would do in retrospect.

Danube of Thought

I like to imagine the beads of sweat on the brows of Hatch and Lugar. After they've been there for so long, they begin to think that there's a wisdom in such things as voting for Sunstein that we hoi polloi back in the hinterland just can't grasp.

"Just trust us." Go fuck yourself.

Jane

It was Jean T - who sometimes posts here who marched back in. I consider myself fairly fearless in those situations and I was in awe.

Clarice

It's funny, the Post had a big front page piece today on how Hatch's sly old dogness beat those insurgent tea partiers and had locked up the convention vote.

Danube of Thought

At some point, the WAPO is going to get tired of being wrong, but first, they have to accept that they don't get to decide what is right.

Great story Jane.

DoT,

We used to do that as Junior High Schooler's on Fort Leavenworth.

I especially recall how during football practice we would strain to hear it, so that we could suddenly stand at attention and take a minute's break from workouts.

Am glad kids are still doing that.

In Utah, the beauteous Mia Love handily won the Republican nomination. Another victory for the tea party.

Danube of Thought

"I assume you mean donkee""

Oh. Never mind.

MarkO

I seem to recall that Hatch purportedly wrote music, recorded it and invited Ted Kennedy to sing with him. I don't think I could make that up.

I think what he might share with Obama is that he's just not that smart.

Clarice

Mark Steyn (NRO): "“Some are saying they were women at the bar.”

Amazing to hear government agents channeling Dudley Moore in Arthur: “You’re a hooker? I thought I was doing so well.” It turns out U.S. Secret Service agents are the only men who can walk into a Colombian nightclub and not spot the professionals. Are they really the guys you want protecting the president?"
