This isn't comparing apples and oranges; this is comparing apples and peacocks.
From Obama's speech announcing the death of Osama:
And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.
Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.
Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.
And Bush's speech announcing the capture of Saddam Hussein:
The success of yesterday's mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in Iraq. The operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the dictator's footprints in a vast country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by a brave fighting force. Our servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope and freedom to the Iraqi people. Their work continues, and so do the risks. Today, on behalf of the nation, I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate 'em.
Of course Iraq went on to become a quagmire, whereas Afghanistan...
No hat tip for Janet? Or somebody?

comparing apples and peacocks
Despite a de facto standard of retaining subject order between literal and analogical series', I'm going to assume an exception applies in this case. Obama is clearly the peacock.

CH, TM came up with this independently.
(O/T, Why am I thinking about the Libby case?)

Depressing discussion of CA.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304444604577340531861056966.html
California is turning into a two-and-a-half-class society. On top are the "entrenched incumbents" who inherited their wealth or came to California early and made their money. Then there's a shrunken middle class of public employees and, miles below, a permanent welfare class. As it stands today, about 40% of Californians don't pay any income tax and a quarter are on Medicaid.

Jim,
The WSJ piece is a precursor for Controller Chiang's April report which will show MoonBeam's revenue projections to be off by about 18.5% wrt personal tax revenues. The $1.75 billion shortfall is going to trigger another series of spending cuts and put the lie, again, to the totally specious claptrap about any sort of recovery occurring.
The Great OPM Famine is deepening in the Blue Hells and there will be very little that President Romney can or should do about it. California and Illinois are going to have to pump out the the cesspools they've created on their own hook.

Ben - Read Bush's account. How much credit is he taking for Saddam's capture?

Please note that the 0nce's chest thumping is over an an event that was set up by actions he denounced and actors he wanted to prosecute.

Romney has fewer NS creds than Obama in 2008??
Keep beclowning yourself.

that is encouraging, seeing as he's been campaigning non-stop for months and Romney is just getting warmed up

This has to be a new Ben Franklin posting. The old one seemed to be at least adolescent. This one comments like a petulant child.

Who would y'all rather have answer the phone at 3 am?
Heh...Obama answers the phone. That's precious.
Oh wait. You must have meant Obama answers the 3 a.m. phone call nine months later, after being drug in off the golf course against his will, having his arm twisted to do it and consulting with every advisor he can find on whether it will be political useful to answer the phone.
In that case he has Admiral McRaven answer it.

Obama spent maybe a couple of hours total on the project, at least until the launch of the mission. And, then, I am sure, that he took full advantage of real time video to watch the execution of the mission. Hundreds, if not thousands, of our military personnel were involved in one way or another, with the Seals, pilots, etc. training hard for years, and then having their lives on the line.
And, yet, some are still surprises that this speech by the President was mostly about himself, and all the "risks" that he took - which was apparently the risk that he couldn't use the killing of OBL in this year's campaign. Or, maybe more accurately, his surrogate, the guy who had the last clear shot at bagging OBL before, being able to use this successful operation to Obama's advantage.
And, some people wonder why much of our military would have followed George W. Bush to hell, if asked, while we recently had a soldier disciplined for saying things online that hurt Obama's feelings, and one thrown out for refusing to obey his orders.
Answered by: What was so striking to me is how Bush keeps himself completely out of it, with the only use of "I" being Today, on behalf of the nation, I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate 'em.Posted by: Bruce | April 29, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Enough about OBL - let's talk about the President's fantastic success with Arab Spring. There's not a Salafist or member of the Muslim Brotherhood on the planet who is not grateful to the President for allowing them the opportunity to extend Mohametan extremism througout the Middle East and North Africa. Even so, it's nothing compared to the gratitude of British Petroleum and TOTAL shareholders towards the President for his wholesale delivery of kinetic humanitarian aid in support of the Anglo/French coup which both enhanced the free flow of oil to EUtopia and also provided a sterling object lesson on the perils of undermining OPEC production allotments.

"MoonBeam's revenue projections to be off by about 18.5%"
Yikes.
I think I see the outlines of their strategy to justify raising taxes some more.
Simplest would be the Greek process...just take the money first, then make you justify getting it back. LUN.

Obama throws a baseball like a girl (no offense ladies) and he wants us to think he hunted down and killed Osama? Now hunting down Osama's dog, maybe. Yummy.
