Top NBC News execs explain that the Zimmerman "He's black" edit was an honest mistake due to time pressure, and that having Al Sharpton host rallies by day and an NBC talk show by bright is good for their ratings and not a conflict. They told this yo Reuters, not Jon Stewart.
As part of the investigation, the producer who edited the call was questioned extensively about motivation, and it was determined that the person had cut the video clip down to meet a maximum time requirement for the length of the segment - a common pressure in morning television - and inadvertently edited the call in a way that proved misleading.
It was an accident, and who knew anyone was listening anyway?
And on Sharpton:
Externally, media critics including Howard Kurtz, host of CNN's "Reliable Sources" and a columnist for The Daily Beast, have criticized the network for allowing Sharpton to play a dual role as both activist and commentator.
"Even commentators have to abide by certain rules," Kurtz wrote last month. "And in this case, by playing both sides of the camera, Rev. Al has obliterated them."
Internally, some NBC news staffers have complained that Sharpton's unique role in the case has compounded the damage to NBC News' reputation that the edited tape caused, and contributed to an impression among its critics that the network as a whole is biased against Zimmerman, according to sources.
...MSNBC chief executive Phil Griffin has defended Sharpton's dual role as well, saying that as long as the longtime civil rights activist is upfront about his advocacy activity, he would be allowed on a "case by case basis" to both participate in and comment for MSNBC on issues and stories that interest him. Griffin has credited Sharpton with turning the Martin case into a national news story.
And if they succeed in fanning these flames into race riots they will have just the guy to cover them.
"For a white male to come that deep into that area and to start indiscriminately shooting, that lends itself for many to believe that it probably was a hate crime," Blakney told CNN.
Now can you imagine that statement made, with the races reversed? LUN.

Phil Griffin sounds like the stereotypical slimey little weenie liberal who manages to sneer out a good morning. If they dont know why folks do watch them much any more then that is ipso facto proof that they just are nowhere near as smart as they think.

Who is Phil Griffin and what are his qualifications to make decsions of life and death ?

Once again, I urge the Wizards of the right-wing blogosphere to confer, consult and otherwise hobnob together and push the fact that NBC deceptively edited not only the 911 audio tape, but the video of Zimmerman arriving at the police station.
No doubt NBC lawyers have explained to Griffin and Capus how expensive a civil suit will be if the network is found to have maliciously altered the audio. They are trying to explain it away as an isolated incident made innocently.
By tying the edited audio to the editing of the video, it establishes a culture of deception at NBC that had the implied, if not the direct consent of management.

They told this to Reuters, not Jon Stewart.
For those who have trouble telling the difference - one provides a clownish pantomime of straight news reporting, and the other was in "Death to Smoochy".

Wow, "an honest mistake due to time/competitive pressure". Who could imagine?
Except that's the same line the press always trots out. And it never explains why their "honest mistakes" lean one direction.

Excuse-wise, that's just ridiculous.
OT: Tulsa police arrested 2 white men for the shooting spree that began Friday night. Kudos to all the Tulsa folks who called Crimestoppers with tips.

The Prez of a network catering to liberal bigots sounds like a liberal bigot. Whaddaya know? More to the point, where's all the investigative journalism about the identity of the producer who made the cuts? You know, exposes about past shenanigans said producer may have done. Of course such investigation would invite retaliation by MSLSD. Who sez Mutual Assured Destruction is dead?
Meanwhile, more gloomy news from energy: Japan is letting its nukes shut down, thanks to all the Greenie howling. This will put more demand into petroluem and natural gas markets and prices will go up, just as that ninny Chu wanted. That's what we need to be discussing, not Trayvon Martin and His Lefty Adrenaline Machine.
A few years ago Thomas Frank howled WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH KANSAS, i.e. why are those dumb flyover morons always voting against their economic self interest by paying attention to these stupid social issues? Given that black unemployment especially in the under 30 brackets continues to hover closer to heaven than The One will ever get, it would be interesting to hear Tommy's present views...

Not really; he had a weekly column at the WSJ as their token lefty, and it was one of the most boring exercises in lefty casuistry I've ever experienced. He'll never admit his premises are flawed no matter how many facts get in the way.

Is there any reason for Zimmerman to wait before filing a suit? It would put a nice glow on NBC to have others preemptively crediting Sharpton for fanning the flames, and reporting on how we still don't know who the poor stumble-bum* of an NBC producer is who inadvertently edited the 911 audio, but how it surely wasn't the responsibility of the executive in charge, Brian Williams.
Anyway, Zimmerman suing now would make news, before the news about riots after the GJ non-indictment overtakes everything else.

I still do not comprehend how Sandy Berger was able to scrub the history of the Clinton administration's lax attitude for the 911 Commission and not serve serious time.

If things explode in Sandford, you can bet old Al Sharptongue will be doing his best Wolf Blitzer impression and reporting from under his bed in his hotel room.

If it's an accident ... purely an oversight anyone could make under the horrific deadline pressure that news executives face every day ... then why did NBC fire the guy?
You don't fire people for making honest mistakes.
NBC's spin just doesn't add up and does not comport with their actions.
Maybe some enterprising libel lawyer can get to the bottom of this and make a huge payday for himself all the while garnering massive publicity for his firm.

"Sandy Berger was able to scrub"
Jon Corzine was able to vaporize 1.2t. The list of things that leftists get by with goes on and on.
Even thro B. Madoff give a lot to the Democrats he must not have given it to the important Democrats. For example, H. Clinton only got $2000. Madoff was sentenced to 135 years in jail. Sandy Berger and Jon Corzine are "Free as a Bird".
