Captain Hate

Health care is very important to people.

Shut up, simpleton. If it's important to people they have a responsibility to figure out how to get it. There isn't some magic entity called "government" that exists to satisfy everybody's whims. The freedoms that are codified in the Constitution and Bill of Rights provide the framework for you to achieve whatever you want if you're willing to expend the effort for it.

rse

You know when it's an important national holiday like Lenin's birthday, I mean Earth Day, the search engine graphics go all out. Today it's a tiny flag with a tiny remembrance ribbon overlaid.

Our heroes deserve better google.

narciso-funny you should mention that wager. I will soon do some splaining about just what our science czar is up to. That's a big story and I rather need some intl assists. Anybody know the folks at WUWT?

Chubby

Janet my problem with Trump is that I don't trust him, but I have been rethinking that some since I last posted about him. I have to admit that the more Romney can make himself more recognizable, using the mechanism of pop culture, the better. That is what Breitbart said the Republicans need to do most of all. The self-appointed Republican gatekeepers are appalled by Sarah Palin for the exact same reason they are appalled by Trump, both take advantage of pop culture, and why shouldn't they?

Jane

The media keeps saying how stupid it is for Romney to appear with that birther Trump.

I dunno, that makes me think it might actually be a good idea.

Steve

"... The self-appointed Republican gatekeepers are appalled by Sarah Palin for the exact same reason they are appalled by Trump ..."

heck, I am opposed to both Sarah and Trump because I am pretty sure they both want the US projecting military power overseas. I fear Romney also wants the US fighting Iran and al Queda in the arabian peninsula. But on the other hand I like a lot that Romney and Trump are against China.

Chubby

I wonder if the Kennedy clan even knows basic table manners.

Melinda Romanoff

PL-

In my three encounters with members of the family, two were "no"s.

Rick Ballard

RSE,

The Skydragon is now a non-issue. It will remain so at least through the election. Apparently there is a problem with sandblasting off the Solyndra logo. I'm sure President Obama's ecofascists are busily destroying whatever they can and look forward to your report on their activity.

They really need to be on the OPM Famine Designated Victim's List along with Indoctrination Department.

Chubby

((I dunno, that makes me think it might actually be a good idea.))

exactly. maybe the press is feeling like I did when John Kerry appeared at the Democrat Convention in full-on military mode, salute and all, trying to steal W's hawkish thunder. maybe the media is feeling that Romney and Trump together will steal some of Obama's pop culture thunder.

Chubby

Melinda, let me guess, the third was a Kennedy by virtue of marriage?

Jane

Chubby,

Wasn't that a joke? And wasn't it the same night when Teresa gave a speech about being an "African American"? That family is such an embarrassment.

Chubby

Jane, yes, it was a joke, but I have to admit it alarmed me at the time.

Chubby

Jane, I'd totally forgotten about THK'S speech, but I'll never forget her immortal "stuff it"

Captain Hate

I wonder if the Kennedy clan even knows basic table manners.

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend does. I think she's the exception.

narciso

If Klein does have a fault, it is impart that the Kennedy's general rejection of Obama, in favor of the Razorback clan, is some sign of wisdom, they've just been running an older
scam,

rse

I disagree rick.

That's the beauty of the monopoly over education and the Common Core Deception.

You use the social sciences and what they call the tripartite, controlling higher ed, K-12, and the colleges of ed, and create the desired mindset in the students. Facts do not matter. Reality does not intervene. At least not for a while.

You make the children BELIEVE. You make responding from emotion a habit that is outside of conscious control. The UN considers ed to be its most potent weapon in achieving its vision and it is outside of traditional scrutiny.

And it is very obnoxious of me to figure it out, document it, and now write about it. Especially to point out that what is being called the Common Core national standards and Race to the Top has an actual implementation that looks just like the UN's Education for All agenda. And the fulfillment of its Education for Sustainable Development goals.

I don't think it will play well when suburban parents discover their property taxes are going to limit what their children can know so the developing world can catch up and we can have equity of basic skills for all.

Plus that new definition of growth the UN is pushing that wants to deemphasize economic growth for UN managed development. It will be a busy week of describing various bureaucratic attempts to prepare serfs collars.

Time to make them visible and get to know those nefarious vendors better.

Rick Ballard

RSE,

I wasn't clear. The Skydragon is not going to be used by the Obama campaign this year due to Solyndra. The issue of ecofascism as a means of general immiseration remains very important. I believe that both indoctrination disguised as education and ecofascism can be curtailed most effectively by choking off funding.

narciso

Orwell did capture some of this, with the 'Two Minute Hate' and the adulation of Big Brother, two sides of the same coin,

narciso

Btw, I disagree about Trump, his upper east milieu almost guarantees he is suggestible to the latest meme, whether 'Bush lied into war'
or the wealth tax, his dillettantism on the vetting issue, chasing the white rabbit, is
also indicative of this.

Chubby

yes, Narciso, I cannot escape the feeling that Trump is not trustworthy and that he would stab Romney in the back without batting an eyelash. By the opposite token, if a wealthy, successful, high profile tv star and pop culture icon volunteered to campaign for Obama, would the Obama campaign get its knickers in a twist about it and say no thanks? Instead, they'd throw their arms wide open and welcome it.

narciso

Yes, that's why I still count Will, as the greater fool, RS McCain, had a particular phrase to describe him and Brooks usefulness
or lack thereof, caveats are still in order.

Ignatz

Donald Trump is the sole member of the Trump party which runs under the banner of "What's Good for the Grapefruit Head is Good for America."

Getting in bed with him is about as likely to be helpful and pain free as crawling into your sleeping bag shortly after a black mamba decided to take a nap in it.

Chubby

Narciso, was your disagreement due to the comparison of Trump to Palin? if so, point taken, Palin is not fickle

narciso

No, principle, but that we see scarcely matters anymore,

Captain Hate

rse, what percentage of current teachers do you feel are appalled at what their profession has become in enabling what you described in your 9:38 post? And do they fight it by trying to push back by doing their job in the way they feel is proper or by giving up and finding a private school that's more in line with their concept of developing thinking skills.

Rocco

I'm pretty sure no one lives on Monomoy. Years ago it was habited but now I'm pretty sure it's a wildlife preserve

http://www.mychatham.com/monomoy.html

Jane

Trump wants to be VP. Romney has been seen with all potential VP's presumably as part of the vetting process. My guess is this LV jaunt is a way to let Trump think he is in the competition. Hopefully he really isn't.

Captain Hate

Will Princess SummerFallMassengill be watching the lacrosse final today in honor of the game her people created? Go Terps!!

Btw, Andrea's pen pal, is one of those we are giving a visa to;

http://cubaconfidential.wordpress.com/2012/05/25/senior-spy-diplomat-denies-cubas-human-rights-abuses/

Captain Hate

Damn narc, snow warnings in Hell when I agree with the State Dept over somebody else. WTF about a visa? The article says that person was expelled in 2003.

rse

CH-the private schools are increasingly targeted as well, usually through the accreditation process and hiring leaders with an ed background.

Most teachers are unaware of this but they all tend to quickly believe me because it fits with their experiences that had not previously made sense.

The whole focus all of a sudden on teacher evals and effective teachers as part of RTT and the waivers is just a means of getting at teachers who in the past closed the door and taught content. The Rand Change Agent Study conducted between 1973 and 1978 identified local districts, schools, and classroom refusals as what derailed LBJ's attempt to use ESEA in the 1960s to radically transform US ed to fundamentally change the US. They tried again in the 1990s under the clintons. And I mean that plural although it began under the naive do-gooder GHWB. With Finn and lamar's help.

The 90s version was partial. Outcomes Based education with its affective emphasis and shift away from subject knowledge remains with us. What did not occur here and did elsewhere in the world was what I and the educrats themselves referred to as transformational OBE. That's designed to change the student. That's the transformation sought. You get enough of that and you will change the culture, economy, society, and how the political structure works. It shreds the Constitutional protections even though they remain on the books.

Two real danger marks for a teacher are a degree from a school of ed affiliated with John Goodlad's National Network for Educational Renewal. In your state that would be Miami University. In South Carolina it is every ed school in the state. Also true in Colorado. He is at U-Wash now and has been since 1987.

The other red mark is being a Nationally Board Certified teacher. That was created deliberately to push the change the student classroom practices.

It is why the prof devt getting ready for Common Core is dominated by NBCTs. The radicals know it's all about the actual implementation. In education too many people get caught up in the language of content standards that are only created to be a political subterfuge.

narciso

What does that have to do with it, Andrea vouches for her, snorfle;

narciso

In an ironic sense, that they didn't intend,
they were correct in Pink Floyd's 'the Wall'

Captain Hate

In your state that would be Miami University

Wow, didn't know that. They try to get 'em young because my youngest Hatette was invited to (and attended) a math/science program at Miami when she was in elementary school (a public school before I got sick of the entire system, caused by my older's experience in middle school) and was mentioned as a "high achiever" or something like that and was invited for a week during the summer. We thought we were doing the right thing and maybe we were.

Btw, do you have any opinion about the quality of education received at Hathaway Brown in Shaker Heights? I've already written off the indoctrination she received at Columbia as an expensive waste (which she communicated to me more than once while there) and would hate to have thrown that much more away.

Captain Hate

naive do-gooder GHWB

A more compliant tool is difficult to imagine. The price we paid to keep the Rockefeller Repukes from boycotting Reagan.

Rocco

There are some tidal rips southeast of Monomoy Island that striper fisherman love to fish. Shallow water, strong currents and BIG stripers.

Photobucket

rse

I didn't have an opinion but being in Ogbu's spotlight cannot have helped the schools there.

LUN

I will go look at a few more things that always scream trouble to me.

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vjnjagvet

Reagan was pretty good at practical politics, CH. Without paying that price, we may have had (shudder) a Carter second term followed by 2 Mondales.

Go Terps. Keep the string going. I would love to see the first unranked team to take the Div 1 LAX tourney. And if Lehigh had to lose, there would be the consolation that it lost to the eventual champs.

rse

LUN says Shaker Heights is a pilot district for bad math ideas.

SERP also pushes psycholinguistics in reading. The non-politically correct term insiders use for a whole word, print literacy is overrated approach.

Gloria-Ladson Billings who is mentioned in the LUN is ms racial reparations herself.

Captain Hate

Jim, yes Reagan understood practical politics better than most. I'm just railing at the situation where conservatives always get the blame when a disaster like Carter or the JEF happen but the squishes always get a pass when they're the more likely to bail.

Captain Hate

rse, HB is a private school so I don't know if what you've linked would apply to them automatically.

narciso

Yes, they were the ones that gave us 'detente'
and the idiot WIN slogan, even people who should know better like Fumento, seem to succumb to the Borg.

rse

LUN says they did a Parent School Climate Survey of Shaker Heights parents in 2011. That means Shaker Heights has or soon will be getting a formal social and emotional developmental emphasis.

That is an essential component of getting the elements of Tr OBE in place. I also know the NCLB waiver Ohio is being pushed into has a definition of Growth that will include SEL as an essential and even dominant component of what constitutes student achievement to be measured for each school's report card.

Captain Hate

Did anything personify the Ford administration more than WIN?

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vjnjagvet

WIN -- the forerunner of WTF.

narciso

They acceded to the wishes of the DEms on the FBI, CIA, most everything Cheney and Rumsfeld
tried to restore,

rse

The lun would indicate hb is getting sucked into the public school mindset through this aspire program.

I do not like those links on left hand side.

Ignatz

Does anything personify Barry's more than WTF?

Ignatz

Grrr. Refresh before posting.

Davod

"Capn' Romney needs someone like the Good Doctor...Dr Condoleeeeza Rice, to give him RELIGION vis a vis FOREIGN POLICY."

I seem to recall Ms. Rice bending towards the State Department view and away from Bush's foreign policy. Remember when the US envoy to Korea came back and announced a completely different approach to the Bush policy.

narciso

No, we need the Stache, Bolton, really no other substitutes, can be accepted, at this point.

Jim Ryan

Governor McDonnell for VP? To get a red Virginia?

Captain Hate

I seem to recall Ms. Rice bending towards the State Department view and away from Bush's foreign policy.

Those were my memories too. A lot of good going squish did for her; she still had the Code Stink imbeciles stalking her (I'm still waiting for the punishment of whatever congressvermin let that delusional harridan into the hearings).

rse

Well ch I just found a really cool official taxpayer funded document explaining that Common Core is based on theories of learning for which there is no real research base. I knew that but this is less than 6 months old. It wants to research the actual effects on students in those states and districts that won RTT money and are aggressively implementing.

That's OPM and the right to use American students as guinea pigs for political theories. It also mentions that the purpose is to level American education in favor of traditionally low performing groups.

That's an oops in my hands.

Urban districts like Atlanta or cleveland that get caught up in the radical agenda will usually try to get the private schools involved in same practices and policies. That has been my experience anyway. It takes a strong head who gets what is really going on to buck and that is fairly rare. Even if it happened in the 90s, a retirement tends to bring in someone with an ed degree instead of say a history or classics major. Then they are wide open for the 21st century learning is different garbage. My youngest has had a tutor for years who is a STAR teacher in english at a private. She and I have been talking recently about how much pressure the privates are getting to push bogus ideas.

What were the greats are now bringing alfie kohn to town to complain about homework in elementary school.

narciso

the problem, is rse is this methodology is viral, it is 'mind arson' in your turn of phrase, because content acquisition is not
the objective.

Captain Hate

are now bringing alfie kohn to town to complain about homework in elementary school.

I was reading in one of your past links a statement that black parents don't like to make sure that homework is being done. Sorry but that's one of the prime responsibilities of parenthood and to allow your kids to get a pass on that is a good way to guarantee their lack of ability to reach their full potential.

daddy

Rse,

My oldest (10th Grade) won some local National History Day competition up here and is invited to the National History Day competition at Captain Hate's Maryland campus for a week this June.

I can't tell from the site if it's an indoctrination seminar, tho' I suspect it may be from the pix of Obama and the recommendation from Cokie Roberts on the home page. Any input on that?

Momma is chaperoning and doing it in conjunction with visiting various colleges back east, so there should be some benefit regardless of the NHD program. So far my daughter has her head on straight---as does Momma, so I'm not too worried.

Porchlight

Health care is very important to people.

So is housing and food and the government doesn't pay for those (for the most part). So are jobs and the government isn't required to provide universal employment.

Steve

"... Health care is very important to people.

the point is Romney and congressional republicans are not addressing a basic needs of low income people. You can't say you want the supreme court to overturn a law when you have no workable alternative.

Annoying Old Guy

Suppose the law was that poor people would be rounded up and put in internment camps and used as slave labor to build renewable energy plants. Would you need a workable alternative to that before say you want to Supreme Court to overturn it?
