Wasn't there a related tribe, called the fukawi? Related battle cries too, as I remember. "We're the Hekawi!?"

Theo

Buford --

"Hekawi" is the G rated version of the old "Fukawi" joke.

I believe Chief Wild Eagle told the story of how the tribe got it's name. They were wandering lost and fell off a cliff and when they came too some strangers heard them say "Where the heck are we?" and thought they were saying "We're the Hekawi."

Old old joke. Funnier when he told it.

Sara

I am not getting the point of this Obama ad for birth control using two children, 6 & 10, as props.

Compare the seriousness to this ad by Romney, which is really kind of a downer.

It is very clear from TM's lede that Ms. warren is mistaken about to which nation her clan belongs. They are actually an offshoot of the Wannabee Tribe, a geographically and culturally diverse nation with many aspirations.

There are the Fonda/Hayden wannabbee band of Hollywood as well as the The Penn/Glover band, often found in Venezuela and Cuba.

Today, we were introduced to the Obama/Goldfarb band of Washington Wannabe whose greatest taboo is retail. In fact, Rebbe Barack Hussain Choomowitz has revealed himself to be the shaman of the band and all knowing of the secrets of the peyote fueled sweathouse known in their secret language as schul.

Then there are the Ma-Don-Ah, who speak with a phony English accent and produce incredibly bad films. Shall I go on?

I like that Romney ad, Sara. I think the serious but hopeful tone nails it. People are hurting as a result of the Obama "recovery", but Romney still believes in America and will pursue economic policies to get us moving again. That's what I take as the message from the ad. Jimmyk, I still get the Obama ad from Sara's 5:01 PM links.

Buford Gooch

Matt at 5:21

Yes, please do go on.

You're right, TC, my mistake. When the ad began I thought it was that Romney ad where the kids grow up during the ad (or am I imagining that too). Anyway, I created confusion, sorry. Serves me right for trying to work and read JOM at the same time.

For some reason Deval Patrick's comments today remind me of the scene in Ghostbusters when they "Cross The Streams:"

Remember in Ghostbusters at the end when Egon suggests a desperate move:

"Egon Spengler: I have a radical idea. If the door swings both ways, we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
Peter Venkman: How?
Egon Spengler: We'll cross the streams.
Peter Venkman: Excuse me, Egon, you said crossing the streams was bad.
Ray Stanz: Cross the streams...
Peter Venkman: You're gonna endanger us, you're gonna endanger our client. The nice lady who paid us in advance before she became a dog.
Egon Spengler: Not necessarily. There's definitely a very slim chance we'll survive.
[A pause as they consider this.]
Peter Venkman: I love this plan! I'm excited to be a part of it. Let's do it!"

Here's Deval Patrick today on Big Chef Elizabeth:

“Elizabeth Warren is my friend and I believe she should be the next U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. I love this candidate. I’m excited about this candidate.”

Just in from the dogwalk and caught a great little rant from Dennis Miller discussing Wolfe Blitzer's clumsy, unprofessional attack on Donald Trump.

Dennis describes watching Wolfe trying to interview Trump with his belligerent questioning as the graceless Journalistic equivalent of Peter Boyle trying to dance in "Young Frankenstein."

Here's the 4 minute clip of Dennis's rant with what I think is a concluding observation that is exactly on the money.

I had forgot about this but 4 years ago during the Texas Primary, I crossed over and voted for the Hildabeast in Operation Chaos. I stood in line for a Democrat ballot in the same precinct that yesterday had the Maytag repairman working the Democrat primary. It was a ghost town. Now there were Republicans last time, but this time no Democrats.

I gotta believe that foreshadows a major thumping for Democrats. I bet the story is the same in many places, as the thrill is gone.

Porchlight

Gmax, what happened with the Dem primary? How much of the vote did Barry get?

Janet

Excellent Dennis Miller link, daddy.

GMax

So few Democrats showed up Porch, that it was only the diehards.

Note that a open Senate seat with contested primaries and Democrats managed approx 500K votes total while the Republicans totaled 1.4 MM. That is almost 3 to 1 .

Whoops.

The highlight of that film was the guy from "America's Funniest Home Videos" telling the joke. So different than his normal image...

While utterly bored in a meeting today, I was skimming IMDB and have to say I'm HUGELY impressed by the careers of Bill Mumy and Harry Shearer. Seriously -- check out the length and breadth of their careers. Shearer was on the Jack Benny TV show multiple times, and is still going today on the Simpsons.

Then there's Bill Paxton -- killed by a Terminator, an Alien, and a Predator. The SF high-budget hat trick!

hit and run

Oh. I hadn't realized that Poland wanted Lech Walesa to accept the Medal of Freedom on Karski's behalf, but the WH said no.

The mood soured a bit before Tuesday's award ceremony. The Poles wanted Lech Walesa to receive the medal on Karski's behalf, but the White House nixed the choice. Last year, during Mr. Obama's visit to Poland, the hero of Solidarity refused to attend a large gathering to meet the younger leader. Mr. Walesa felt entitled to a tete-a-tete. Administration officials told Polish journalists that Mr. Walesa's presence was too "political" for this week's occasion. Poles read something else into it: Mr. Obama holds grudges. The counter-snub was the talk of Poland last week.

That's the way to honor Karski. Political payback. Or in Obamaese . . . "smart diplomacy".

“On the specifics, I have regularly criticized an agenda that would punish businesses and job creators with more taxes just as they are trying to thrive again. In re: George Mason. The outright rejection to the engineering school was the opening offer. I threw the application together without much though to a rather bad 2 semesters at Florida. I have an appointment next week with an admissions counselor to see what I might be able to do. Options on the table:

1. Admitted as a non-degree seeking student for 15-18 hours to up my gpa and refresh my technical foundation. Training wheels.

2. Admitted to NOVA (the community college here) in a transfer program. Training wheels and helmet.

3. Let the idea of going back to school (after paying off my student loans in one big bite) marinate for a while longer to see if it is what I want to do.

Politico buries an insightful quote from Charlie Cook in an otherwise lame article:

“The problem he’s got this time is … the enthusiasm,” said veteran analyst Charlie Cook. “People can dislike Romney all day long. If [Obama’s supporters] don’t show up, what in the hell difference does it make that everybody likes him?”

Everyone knows the turnout was 3 to 1 yesterday, has any pundit told you about it? Read that again, Cook knows the score.

Rob Crawford

Rich -- you might want to look into online classes. I had a bad experience (9 hours from completing a Masters in CS and the school last its accreditation), but I chalk that up to choosing a school based on them working with my employer. The classes are accelerated, but you only have one at a time, so I think the workload is a wash.

And you can work full time while doing it.

So, it just struck me what is so funny about the current mess with the Poles. Obama spend the first two years of his presidency making speeches appologizing for the the United States suposedly did to slight other countries. Now, he dosen't wamt to appologies for something he did in the name of the United States that slighted another country.

The cross tabs on the Marquette Wisconsin poll illustrate Cooks point. With pushed leaners the split was 46/46/8. The certainty of voting next Tuesday was 92%R, 78%D, 69%I. The certainty of voting in November was 93%R, 84%D, 78%I. That means that with a 50/50 split in polling, Governor Romney wins 52% to 48%.

He sounded very reasonable in his Fox interview and I am sure that he can actually be worked with if he does make it back to Congress. He sounds a lot like Zell Miller. Kudos to him for a very difficult decision because he realized how far the Dems have run to the left and that the promise of Obama unity is a travesty.
