Team Obama lets their freak flag fly with their new slogan:
New Obama slogan has long ties to Marxism, socialism
The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."
So it does; here are some screen shots so we can track future defensive editing. From the main Wiki page for "Forward", which includes things like power forward in basketball, we get this subsection on politics:
And the Wiki page devoted to 'Forward' as a generic name for socialist publications has this:
I don't know if I should be afraid that Team Obama is didn't research this, or afraid that they did.
The hilarious thing is, they'll scream "MCCARTHYISM" about this, but they've already done the same. Anyone else remember some member of the press "mis-hearing" a Romney speech to claim he was using a Bircher slogan?
Well, if they can invent references to Birchers, we can sure recognize their shout-outs to their socialist precessors.
Posted by: Rob Crawford | May 01, 2012 at 11:26 AM
They didn't need to research it; I'm sure they knew it very well and intended it, and it never occurred to them that anyone would object. They're well within the socialist mainstream and the slogan "Forward" comes naturally to them.
Posted by: Milhouse | May 01, 2012 at 11:30 AM
I agree, Milhouse. There's no way you're wrong about that.
Posted by: Extraneus | May 01, 2012 at 11:35 AM
You're giving them too much credit, they just knew they couldn't use 'Lean Forward' so they shortened it,
Posted by: narciso | May 01, 2012 at 11:35 AM
I wish we were dealing with idiots that didn't do the research. I think they know damn well what they are doing.
Posted by: Sue | May 01, 2012 at 11:39 AM
I think they did it purposely, thinking that they'll get an overreaction and that a majority will think that overreaction is silly.
Posted by: Danube of Thought | May 01, 2012 at 11:40 AM
That's a good theory, DoT, but it seems pretty dumb if that's their strategy. At any rate, there surely were meetings attended by higher-ups who couldn't possibly not know the pedigree of the word in socialist history.

" The first 38 seconds of President Obama's new 7-minute campaign video are devoted to the economic deluge he inherited. Team Obama doesn't blame President Bush's administration for this bitter economic bequest by name, but the inference is inescapable.
Obama knows the U.S. economic recovery is weak, consumer confidence timid, job growth uninspiring and optimism jittery. This is not the historic foundation upon which a second term is built. Therefore, the past must be made present to guarantee (or at least enhance) Obama's political future.
The video, with the one word title "Forward" is utterly and not surprisingly consistent with former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs statement Sunday that the central complaint of presumptive-GOP nominee Mitt Romney is Obama "didn't clean up our mess fast enough."
But it is clear - to the discerning eye - not everything Bush bequeathed Obama was a mess.
The video asserts Obama's 2009 stimulus law, which now carries a price tag of $831 billion, "saved up to 4.2 million jobs." This is a more cautious assertion than earlier White House statements that the law "saved or created" millions of jobs. This despite Congressional Budget Office analysis suggesting the stimulus not only saved jobs but created hundreds of thousands...."

I suspect it will resonate with hard core prog activists. The Obama campaign is depending on these folks for an unprecedented get out the vote and voter fraud campaign. It may also help with certain white collar types in swing states who fancy themselves chic. I think the calculation is that the socialist flavor wouldn't turn off truly persuadable voters in battleground states. Obama neede an inflamed base for a vicious campaign, and this helps.

Maybe he is pandering to WI.
State Motto: "Forward" Reflecting Wisconsin's continuous drive to be a national leader, the state adopted "Forward" as the official state motto in 1851. .
If Obama loses Wisconsin, he loses it all.

TC,
You and DoT could both be right. I'm sure it was Fuddle Tested and found to be non-offensive with those too damned dumb to do anything but feel bad for poor BOzo being a called a commie just because he picked a commie slogan. His adoption of NO_LIMIT Grillntats was done on the same premise - the Fuddle is supposed to see BOzo as the innocent 12 yo gunned down after being chased by Hulking Brute Whitey.
BOzo's little problem is that the Fuddle just isn't going to give a damn about what he's called as long as gas is at $5 and Uncle Bob, Aunt Sally and the kids are still living down in the rec room. The Fuddle is feeling rather annoyed by reality and they feel BOzo is much more on the cause rather than the solution side.

I hate that O logo. I really hate it. The fact he purposefully associates himself more with it than the Presidential Seal of Office fits right in with his making everything about him, nothing about the honor and responsibility of leading the country.
Has any candidate for any office ever branded themselves like some sort of soft drink or line of clothing before? And the slogans! Bleeeech!! If they come up with a cutesy jingle - the kind of ditty that you can't get out of your head - don't tell me about it.

Going back to my Frosh Philospohy 101 days-- Hagel/Marx used their dialectic of history to push back against 'reactionary' monarchies trying to preserve their 'Dieu et Mon Droit' deal. "Forward" is an obvious slogan for the Marxist, because it claims the dialectical inevitability of world socialism. 'Bam and MSNBC use Forward! as slogans-- really?-- Quelle Surprise.

Just as another thought. "Forward" is the command a guide dog learns so the blind or visually impaired has the dog start off first in a leading position. I know this because I am raising a guide dog puppy for Southeastern Guide Dog School and Forward is one of the commands I have had to teach "George". Combine the "Forward"command and "leading from behind" with the reminder that O ate dogs and I am sure that someone can find comedy gold!
Posted by: TexasMom2012 | May 01, 2012 at 02:00 PM

Jane-the shutdown is probably unrelated. Hubby read report and said Rangers were pinned down in a firefight. Team 6 was responding with little notice to help them. Little time to plan and it was probably a lucky shot unaware of the reliever. However, because firefight had been going on for hours everyone with rockets in area had time to come and wait for a lucky strike.
Even beyond Navy there is a great deal of concern that so much confidential info came out for selfish political showboating.
If the 12:22 is real, these guys really are historical illiterates.
Different topic-have I said how tired I am of utility or insurance execs or businesses where govts are the only or majority customer being the face for what this economy needs from education?
The good news from the meeting is I did figure it all out correctly. The bad news is it remains a horrendous idea.
Forward into the abyss based on what the feds are pushing on the states. It's amazing how many senior business execs think now there is a magic funding genie if they push bad ideas. "We have to do this so there will be funding available."
