Obama manages to insult Poland during the Presidential Medal of Freedon ceremony yesterday:
Poland demanded a “strong and clear response” from the U.S. after President Barack Obama’s mention of a “Polish death camp” while honoring a Pole who told the world about the Holocaust.
“We can’t accept such words in Poland, even if they are spoken by a leader of an allied country,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk told journalists in Warsaw today. “Saying Polish concentration camps is as if there was no German responsibility, no Hitler.”
Was it really just four years ago that Obama misplaced Auschwitz somewhere in the zone liberated by the Allies during WWII? Yes it was!
Well, now he has some of these death camps in Poland, which represents some kind of progress. I infer that our first Pacific President was not a big student of either the Holocaust or European history.
Smartest President EVER....

The Poles are playing politics. I guess it is for good reason, since in the current day it is them against the Germans and the Russians. And the real politic Obama/Clinton would sell the Poles out in a second. But still, they have to watch out that they make the leadership of the democrat party their enemy.

--Gus-- serious answer-- 'Bam DID ignore Holder, Biden and Jarrett plus various other leftwing bloods and kept Gitmo open--
He kept Gitmo open only because his own party rejected his attempt to drop them all into Illinois.
The other stuff a moron would have greenlighted, so he may have gotten them right but it doesn't answer Gus's question about his IQ.
Moreover, the other stuff can quite plausibly be argued as a strategic blunder akin to Clinton's silliness in the 90's. Wars are almost never won by decapitating the enemy; it's a dilettante's method of warfare on the cheap which ignores both physical, strategic objectives and ideological ones but does make for nice reelection headlines.

FWIK The Turkish Gastarbeiter were brought in primarily for manual labor. The Poles are very capable of construction, much of it "under the table,"and take off to return to families back in Poland. The Turks became the-men-who-came-to-dinner. The Poles seem to be real guest workers.

File under ... Did Elizabeth Warren have “crib notes” for the Bar Exam ?
“I was the first nursing mother to take a bar exam in the state of New Jersey,” Warren told an audience at the Chicago Humanities Festival in 2011, in a video posted on the CHF website. When asked how Warren knows that, her campaign said: “Elizabeth was making a point about the very serious challenges she faced as a working mom — from taking an all-day bar exam when she was still breast-feeding, to finding work as a lawyer that would accommodate a mom with two small children.”
Posted by: Neo | May 30, 2012 at 12:44 PM
Gus/Ig-- I'm not a 'Bam fan, so continuing Bush/Cheney anti-terror was the best I could come up with as a 'good idea'. Speaking of anti-terror and Ig's points, Bush-Cheney saw the Af/Pak theater strictly as a defensive fight to prevent AQ from massing Jihadis for training and logistics, as they had done there 1993-2001. They rightly concluded that Afghanistan was too disorganized and corrupt to fundementally change. So Bush started the Predator strikes, and limited the troop casualties. Bush-Cheney concluded that Iraq on the other hand would change fundementally with Sadaam ousted, so total war was waged on the Baathists. History has shown Bush-Cheney's strategic thinking was right on target. Iraq has changed fundementally, and 'Bam was wrong to 'surge' in Afghan without a rational strategy and so all we get is more casualties, without purpose. 'Bam is repeating the British Empire and Soviets' Afghan mistakes. Scandalous.

From the other thread, as my mind is on about 5 other things today, but I did want to offer up my well-intended campaign advice. Really I am serious. Would I snark?
That family portrait someone linked to in a campaign ad made me think the new strategy should be not to take the girls away from the Sidwell Friends life they have come to know and love. It would simply be too difficult at this critical stage of their development to not let them stay 4 more years.
The lab school is not the same. It lacks that cosmopolitan element. Plus children of a defeated candidate may cease to have the social cachet they had when they left. Especially when combined with the no lucrative Olympics fiasco.
All in all-a 2nd term "for the girls" is clearly the winning slogan.
Plus it appeals to the emotions and the visual instead of facts and logic. Since that's the direction bo and arne are shoving American schoolchildren and college students using your tax money or borrowed dollars to bribe schools and states.
I am quite angry about what this crew is intentionally doing to current students in both K-12 and higher ed. Plus they have gone after the preschools now with their psychologizing learning push.

I still think this rates #2 behind President Obama's decision to scrap a missile-defense agreement the Bush Administration negotiated with Poland and the Czech Republic on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Poland.
The previous "fit of stupidity" has the advantage of being at least a "double whammy" and given the former, I bet the Poles are surprised with the latter.

Counting is fun, dd.
" One would have thought that President Obama might have used the time he would have spent in Poland paying his respects to the Polish fallen. For example he could have visited the recently erected Victims of Communism memorial in Washington, or at the very least have signed the condolence book at the Polish Embassy. But what did he choose to do instead? Play yet another round of golf.
As Joseph Curl at The Washington Times reported:
On a cool but sun-drenched Sunday, the president and three golfing companions went to Andrews Air Force Base to play 18 holes. It is the 32nd time Mr. Obama has played golf since taking office Jan. 20, 2009, according to CBS Radio's Mark Knoller.
After canceling the Poland trip on Saturday, the White House announced that Mr. Obama had no public schedule for Sunday. He was to have arrived in Krakow in the morning, attend the 2 p.m. funeral and leave for home by 5 p.m., arriving back at the White House after midnight."

I think the family portrait, rse, is a devious, cynical and brilliant move by Axelplouffe. This election could well be decided by middle to upper income white persuadables in Northern Virginia and Cuyahoga County, Ohio and a few other areas in battleground states. The play is now going beyond tugging on white liberal guilt heartstrings about denying the nation's first black POTUS a second term. It is evolving into not kicking out the first black
family to occupy the Oval Office.

Spiegel had a good article on how Poland has become the powerhouse of central Europe. they kept the zloty and are a low cost alternative with a well educated work force.
They uniformly don't know how to make a martini, though. Very pro American other than that.
The Irish were very upset that Poles on the dole were flying into Dublin and Shannon from Warsaw to collect their checks. I later found out that there were any thousands of Poles who did in fact work regular jobs in Ireland and qualified for the benefit. There were fraudsters as well, but fewer than thought.
The Lightbringer isn't quite sure where Poland and the Czech Republic are on the map, I'm sure.
There was a bit of stink on American Spectator when I pointed out that while Obama is geographically challenged, he was correct in that his uncle (the white one) did help liberate Buchenwald rather than Auschwitz. It turns out he was in the same unit as one of my uncles. My uncle said it was the most terrible day of his life seeing the things he saw. That after 6 months of combat across Europe.

OT,
Big anger up here on the local Talk Radio circuit this morning.
JOMer's may recall that the Pebble MIne project in western Alaska, (largest proposed mine in the world) is stalled in the standard Enviro/Legal limbo as any other project this country has tried to get started the last 20 years or so.
Washington State Senator Cantwell asked the EPA to come in and do a study on the potential devastation of the Alaska Mine project to the livelihood of the Alaska Salmon Industry, which employs many Seattlites.
The EPA complied, in from what we understand, is the first "Preemptive study by the EPA", a study where the actual mine plans have not yet been agreed upon and published, so the EPA jumped in at her request and proactively and preemptively and did a damning hypothetical study.
Now the anger is that starting tomorrow the EPA will start their Public Hearing Process on the Alaskan Pebble MIne Project, and they are starting the Public Hearing off in----Seattle.
Alaskan's are mighty pissed off about that on the Radio Airwaves this morning. Thank you Seattle and the EPA for telling us how to run our State.

I read something today at Yahoo finance by Mike Pento (whoever he is) talking about the pog: (("However, a stubbornly high unemployment rate should bring Bernanke back into the QE game in the second half of this year. The likelihood of yet more dollar creation from the Fed, a continuation of negative real interest rates and a national debt that is most likely to be monetized should send gold to at least $1,800 per ounce by year's end."))

Seattle has been trying to hold onto its control of Alaska since the 1890's , daddy. They have been pretty nasty about it over the years.
As a fly fisherman, though, I do have my concerns. My understanding is that the mine doesn't even come close to the river. Is this correct?
I think Rather got his inside scoop from Sean Penn and Danny Glover. I wonder what they will do now that Hugo may be shuffling off the stage. Lines with Evo Morales? Malbec with Cristina Kirchner? Those are some pretty big jackboots to fill, you know....

Chubby-- for 60 years Wall Street has said-- "Don't fight the Fed". I wonder now-- like the 'effed 1970s Burns era, I think the Fed has lost control of the interest rate and money supply policy. NOBODY knows how macroeconomics works, so my opinion is as good as anybody's-- and my opinion is that Ben now realizes that the more he prints money, the less 'stimulative' effect it has, but the food and fuel inflation that results is real. So why print more money, when doing nothing reduces fuel and food prices and that indirectly stimulates the economy. That's my guess of what ben and FOMC do next-- nothing.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) petitioned Commerce earlier this year to ask that Arab Americans be made eligible for the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), which helps minority entrepreneurs gain access to capital, contracts and trade opportunities.
The ADC petition cited “discrimination and prejudice in American society[,] resulting in conditions under which Arab-American individuals have been unable to compete in a business world.” The group claimed discrimination against Arab Americans increased after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
