Ooops - a genealogist discovers that not only is Ms. Warren probably not descended from a Cherokee, she is descended from a man who helped round up the Cherokee. I guess that is why she skips the Harvard powwow.
Scott Brown is upping the ante by calling on Ms. Warren to release the relevant application records:
“Serious questions have been raised about the legitimacy of Elizabeth Warren's claims to Native American ancestry and whether it was appropriate for her to assume minority status as a college professor,” Brown said in a statement. “Her changing stories, contradictions and refusal to answer legitimate questions have cast doubt on her credibility and called into question the diversity practices at Harvard.”
Brown added that to clear up any confusion Warren should “authorize the release of her law school applications and all personnel files from the various universities where she has taught.”
A few weeks back I would have guessed this to be a dead end; Ms. Warren was listed in the law school directory as a minority and my guess would have been that prospective employess would be dscreet enough to rely on that rather than other documentation.
However, if the documentation were helpful to Ms. Warren's cause one might have expected her to have released it by now, so Scott Brown may come up aces here.

So she DOES have native american blood. It's just on her hands, not in her bloodstream.
Posted by: Slowjoe | May 08, 2012 at 03:18 PM
Sounds like great-great-great grandpa might have exercised a bit of what today might be called power asymmetry in his relationship with his spouse-to-be. Or maybe it was Stockholm syndrome? Assuming she was actually Cherokee.

It's funny, because just a couple weeks ago, I would have been totally sympathetic to a Warren defense of "the connection to me now is facile -- that was an ancestor of mine 5 generations back - 1/32nd of my DNA".

Posted by: Janet | May 08, 2012 at 03:45 PM
Funny, she gets tagged as a phony... not for pretending to be part of the 99% while pulling down big bucks for part time work, but for goosing her resume over a decade ago.
Ordinarily, I wouldn't have a big issue with someone who tweaked their resume to make themselves more appealing... but since she wasn't nailed for her real phoniness, I guess I'll settle for her getting the Al Capone treatment.
Posted by: steve | May 08, 2012 at 03:52 PM
After reading TM's links, if I understand correctly, we now know that Lizzy's listings for a decade in the Directories only listed her as "a Minority", not Native American. That means that the only way HLS could claim her as "Native American" was if Lizzy either wrote that on some piece of paper for HLS, or specifically told HLS she was a Native American. Otherwise, HLS would have no idea she was Native American, since she's got chubby cheeks.
If that's the case, then that is why we will never see Lizzy's Harvard applications as requested by Scott Brown.

Are women not counted as "minorities" by whoever decides these things? I can't keep it straight, since it has nothing to do with anything real. I know Jews aren't considered minorities.

managed Bankruptcies for Chrysler and GM was the right way to go. Instead, under 'Bam's corrupt 'Auto Czar' (and securities fraud consent degree signer), GM and Chrysler went through MISmanaged bankruptcies, with senior bond holders of Chrysler being strongarmed, and the UAW members getting preferential treatment so that Chryler and GM are permanent basketcases due to lack of competitiveness vis a vis foreign car badge US operations that are nonunion-- VW, BMW, Merc-Benz, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan etc etc. GM and Chrysler are less competitve than the US operations of foreign manufacturers, and they will be bankrupt again, sooner rather than later-- thanks to 'Bam. PS: US Taxpayers are also on the hook for Billions of GM subsidies, that will never be paid back. VAPORIZED!

CC-- if the RNC has any sense of humor, they will hire Hollywood Indian extras and erect a teepee in front of the Abrams shop the day of the fundraiser to highlight the crimes Fauxcohantas' ancestors committed against the Cherokee. Shame Marlon Brandon has left the living, he was always a good spokesman for Indian greivances -- the RNC could have trotted him out to give a speech.

I wonder whether the Brown team figures (i) this story hurts her but not badly enough that the Dems will dump her, or (ii) even if she is forced from the race, there is not enough time for another formidable candidate to emerge. In any event, Brown's polling folks must be telling him Warren's American Indian hustle is not going over well (when it's not going over in The Commonwealth of the PC, one knows it's a true loser).

Then I felt sick at the thought of so much vindictive and well-paid mediocrity determined to destroy what they cannot themselves become.

OT gossip re: John Travolta
Many years ago (late '80's), my husband and I were staying at the Plaza Athenee or the George V, can't remember which. Our driver was chuckling over a story told to him by one of the hotel staff about a recent incident at the hotel when a staff/panic button was pushed beside a bed in one of the suites. When the staff rushed in to ascertain the emergency, they discovered John Travolta in a bed with another man, both naked. Apparently, in some sort of exuberant "gymnastical" exercise, this button was accidentally pushed. That was the hot gossip amongst the hotel staff that summer.
That story was right up there with the huge conflagration started in one of the suites because some Arabic guests decided to cook their own food over an open bonfire on the floor.

Well, in war, and in politics, you have to concur the high ground. Scott Brown's owned this! Even though the social conservatives in the republican party can't stand him; Scott Brown is actually well liked! The "Kennedy chair" was molded to fit the behind of a glamorous.
The democrats had to run somebody. But why is there this belief that harvahd hoi poloi have an advantage? Kennedy's advantage was his looks.
And, the romance of Camalot. All gone now.
While there are 50 states. And, each one gets two senators. "Politics makes for strange bedfellows." While republicans would be much further ahead ... if in at least 26 states they weren't viewed as religious zealots.
And, Mitt Romney isn't an answer! The war hero, John McCain, already lost that battle for ya.
While Karl Rove is probably sitting at home, now, wondering how the Bush Family can bring Jeb to the front in 2016. It's like "married for life." In a bad marriage.
