My wife saw him in Hawaii before I knew her and really enjoyed the show although she was no psycho Elvis fan.

Ignatz

--Posted by: Elvis | June 28, 2012 at 12:01 AM--

He lives! And he's funny!

Sara

Ig: He put on a hell of a show. The first time I saw him in Vegas, it was amazing to see how he could hold a crowd and work them. My Mother was with me and she kept saying, "Wow, no wonder you love him so much." Of course, when I was a pre-teen and the first Elvis hits came out, she bought them all for me, back when you could buy a 45rpm for 10 cents each. I was the Queen of pre-teen parties when I would bring the full collection of Sun Records. So, I think she was really a closet Elvis fan, but her classical music roots wouldn't allow her to admit it out loud.

MarkO

I confess. I loved Elvis. Had the Elvis hair. I remember August 16, 1977. I finally had enough money to see Elvis in person. I was taking depositions in the Transamerica building in SFO. I came out on the street to see a paper that said he was dead.

I went to Graceland in 1974 and stood outside the gates. He was home. I thought he might come out and give me a Cadillac. Nope.

Still love Elvis and I have so many 45's.

Danube of Thought

The first time I saw Elvis was the first night I got drunk--three quarts of Bud. Jackie Gleason introduced him and I was mesmerized. I loved all the oiginal stuff--I' Left, You're Right, She's Gone; Blue Moon of Kentucky; That's Allright, Mama; I Got a Woman...

When Tom Parker took over I became concerned, and my ardor cooled. I took Hound Dog as a red flag, and my worst fears were realized. After that he became increasingly awful, and the movies were uniformly unwatchable. Fortunatelt there was James Brown and the Famous Flames, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmie Reed and Johnny Otis.

Danube of Thought

Here's what they'll do:

Most likely: let it stand

Next: strike the mandate, let the rest stand (no way are they going to re-write that meass

Least: strike the whole thing

Danube of Thought

Most fun of the morning: that cringe-making period of time between when the press gets the opinion in hand and someone has figured out what it means.

Sara

I think I'll stay up really late and then sleep thru all the morning excitement. I don't think I could stand hearing it wasn't struck down.

A terrific fun column on 'Patches Kennedy" from Howie Carr this morning:

A supremely bizarre letter from Patches

Patches: “If the Court upholds the law, dangerous Tea Party extremists will go on a rampage.”

Howie's reply: "A rampage? Need I remind you, Patches, more people have died in your grandmother’s ’67 Oldsmobile Delmont than in all the Tea Party “riots” combined."

FROM NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE:

"Fast and Furious is a horrific scandal. The public deserves answers as to who devised the operation and what they hoped to accomplish. But the theory that Fast and Furious was devised to promote gun control goes far beyond the evidence, as Issa basically admitted to ABC this weekend, and it does not withstand scrutiny. The chairman should be ashamed to have dabbled in it, and should fully retract his initial comment, unless he has a considerable amount of evidence he has not shared with the public"

It's not just the chairman who subscribes to this batshit crazy theory, every single Republican member of the oversight committee and every single Republican member of congress has suggested it.Hell, even Mitt Romney expressed concern that the President of the United states and Eric holder conspired to undermine 2nd amendment rights by allowing guns to walk to mexico.

(of course Mitt Romney didn't suggest such a thing but it doesn't matter,we're Democrats,we're going to advertise that he did right up till voting day cause das how weeese roll).

Bottom line,Daryl Issa is a tin-foil hat wearing loony-toon conspiracy theorist who has just been discredited and humiliated in from of the entire country......but we don't want him to resign.Far from it we want him front and centre representing Republicans as their oversight chairman.

Next on Issa's list;Martians have infiltrated the Democratic party in an effort to get pro-martian base building funds put into upcoming appropiations legislation.

dublindave

Damn that was quick;I emailed my source and he tells me that it's already been decided by RNC leaders that Issa will resign as oversight committee chairman after 'fast and spurious'is finished with.

That's complete bullshit!!!!

My source says that they want this done before election season gets into full swing and they're making Issa cite 'personal reasons'.

The Am. Thinker article links to this post about Louis Farrakhan.

"In December 2007, the Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) bestowed its highest social achievement award upon Louis Farrakhan, the head of the Nation of Islam."

A church that honors a leader of the Nation of Islam is NOT a Christian church. Now I don't care what they teach...but it is bogus to refer to them as a Christian church. At the very minimum a Christian must believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah...& it is ONLY through Him that we can be saved. That is what Christianity is for heaven's sake.

Boehner stating that the House will move to repeal any parts of 'Obamacare'left standing......"Repeal"but not "replace".

Why would Boehner paint himself into a corner in advance of the ACA being struck down? The law contains provisions that are extremely popular with the American people,ie; pre-existing conditions been done away with???

Even Romney has suggested that he'll replace certain provisions.

So why would Boehner set himself up for political fallout....why not say that they'll repeal and replace then punt? It's almost like Boehner is using extreme language because he wants it to match the expected extreme anger of his base........but how would he know in advance that his base is going to be really really angry??

Interesting.

Hit--how many people in how many cars?

Where to in Idaho?

rse

hit-We visited the Canadian Rockies after I finished law school. My parents said they would pay if I would plan. We had a meandering trip there --Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, over to Prince Rupert, Inside Passage, Vancouver Island and Victoria, then Vancouver and Seattle. Put my sister on a plane and then drove it over the next 3 days.

This is 1984. In the middle of nowhere in Idaho we came across the Olympic torch runner on its way to the next exchange and ultimately LA. It was in the desert stretch of the Interstate.

I decided to change my pattern to go over some of the stories over the last week that confirm what I have been writing about. Let's people catch up and enjoy vacations and reiterates the foundation for what I have been saying.

Today's post is in honor of a certain JOMer who has a real interest in this particular center in Chicago.

Kim-if you are around, I am sure everything that has gone on at UVa is in fact related to Mann and this new Contemplative Sciences Center and its implications. It fits in with the missing 3rd sphere apart from the geosphere and biosphere as in Sweden's IGBP. And Haidt's book, The Righteous Mind, with its misleading subtitle. That book was really a sales job to legitimize emotion over rational thought. I kept wondering if some of the conservative groups who pushed it had read it.

MelR-- check out the Web for accounts of Bill Gross's most recent monthly letter-- it will take decades to dig out of the debt fetish of the past 25 years. Sad -- but true. PS: is today the day the World starts hearing about the "New Mark" for Deutschland, Austria, Neth Den and Finland? leaving France as the big guarantor of PIIGS sovereign debt? These are strange days could happen -- or maybe it waits until Sunday when Germany wins the Euro 2012 soccer tourney, and Frau Merkel gets jiggy with the Deutschland Uber Alles stuff.

The books targeted to that age group are beyond terrible. The modern young teen books are loaded with oral sex & homosexual stories...& that is the age that sexual thoughts & ideas are really imprinted.

Holder Contempt resolution

NK

"The idea that the Attorney General of the United states promoted gun violence in Mexico so that the Obama administration could curb 2nd amendment rights is a sobering thought." Personally, I don't think F&F happened exactly that way. ATF had an idiotic 'case' to sting gun runners and corrupt US gun shops. Holder was briefed very early-- he realized F&F was stupid and useless and potentially dangerous. But he let ATF carry on, because whatever happened in F&F, it could help the gun control cause with the Dems in complete control of Congress. "Never let a crisis go to waste." Brian Terry is murdered , F&F blows up in Holder's face, he lies to Congress and covers up. Then he drags 'Bam into the coverup with the bogus EP claim. Holder is a very bad man.

narciso

That is by no means clear, Holder was an interested party, like with his firm's representing of the 17 Yemeni detainees,
re his closing Gitmo deliberations,

Neo

The Wall Street Journal notes President Obama "has been doing more than sitting back and waiting" for the Supreme Court's health care decision. He has "three separate speeches prepared in anticipation of the ruling on his signature legislative achievement."

"One of the speeches addresses a complete overturn of the law, while another is crafted as if the court strikes down the law's individual mandate but upholds other provisions. The third speech, for if the court upholds the entire law, is more celebratory, according to this person."

The TOTUS is ready.

--Big difference between a violent gun toting thug ominously following you around at night time and a 'stop and greet'.--

When bgates mentioned that he innocently helped a lost young lady and ended up with her phone number in a 'stop and greet' you mentioned that also was a terrifying scenario and he's not even dickhead or asshole or however you cogently perceive yourself.

Chubby

the Black Caucus is planning to walk out during the contemtpt vote. Holder's problem, you understand, is not about guns or anything else, it's due to racism.

Ignatz

--ATF had an idiotic 'case' to sting gun runners and corrupt US gun shops.--

That is not an accurate description of what happened NK.
They could not prosecute any gunshop which they instructed to allow straw purchases to be completed.
And the instant a straw purchase was made they could have arrested any of the gun runners.
If they wished to catch larger fish they could have then turned any number of those gun runners.
If they wished to track those guns into Mexico or recover them prior to their use they would have needed to coordinate the program with Mexican law enforcement which they kept in the dark.
There was zero way any gun they allowed across the border could ever have been tracked except after its use in a crime and recovery by Mexican law enforcement.

Ig-- the strawman purchasers were an attempt to sting un runners, those gun shop owners were patriotic citizens who even the ATF didn't consider prosecuting. But the Fortune mag interview with the ATF agent (volf?) my recollection of his interview was that he claims the F&F 'case' was also supposed to track the runners within the US to find where they were unlawfully buying.

Melinda Romanoff

NK-

Fortune article already unvetted as unfounded.

Ignatz

--Ig-- the strawman purchasers were an attempt to sting un runners, those gun shop owners were patriotic citizens who even the ATF didn't consider prosecuting. But the Fortune mag interview with the ATF agent (volf?) my recollection of his interview was that he claims the F&F 'case' was also supposed to track the runners within the US to find where they were unlawfully buying.--

This is logically inconsistent. If the gunrunners and straw purchasers were approaching law abiding dealers then they didn't have some network of corrupt dealers supplying them and that in fact is how most smuggling through dealers happens. They go from legitimate dealer to legitimate dealer to limit the number of purchases to avoid suspicion. Unless a guy says 'I'm buying these guns for my cartel buddies not myself' it's pretty tough to identify a straw purchaser.

The ATF guys story is inconsistent with the known facts. There was no need for the ATF to OK illegal purchases by known straw men to find where they were unlawfully buying. If they had already identified them as illegal purchasers they could have tracked them just fine already. Moreover by okaying large purchases at legitimate dealers they were lowering their chances of finding corrupt dealers.
Don't get snowed; this was beyond incompetence.

Neo

But Obama said it's not a tax

Neo

Fortune said the "whistleblower" was lying, but ...
Internally, over the course of the next eight months, the Justice Department identified 140,000 pages of documents and communications responsive to the Committee’s subpoena. Yet,the Department handed over only 7,600 of these pages. Through a series of accommodations and in recognition of certain Executive Branch and law enforcement prerogatives, the Committee prioritized key documents the Department needed to produce to avoid contempt proceedings. These key documents would help the Committee understand how and why the Justice Department moved from denying whistleblower allegations to understanding they were true; the identities of officials who attempted to retaliate against whistleblowers; the reactions of senior Department officials when confronted with evidence of gunwalking during Fast and Furious, including whether they were surprised or already aware of the use of this reckless tactic, and; whether senior Department officials are being held to the same standard as lower-level employees who have been blamed for Fast and Furious by their politically-appointed bosses in Washington.

It’s like Fortune is stuck in a time warp.
It sounds perfectly like the DOJ position prior to withdrawing their Feb ’11 letter to Issa last November.
