******BREAKING NEWS******ERIC HOLDER FOUND HIDING IN MOTEL 8 AFTER HE EVADED AUTHORITIES YESTERDAY*****

In what many are describing as a dramatic turn of events in the 'Fast and furious' investigation,Attorney General,Eric holder managed to give police the slip yesterday after they placed him in custody.Holder asked authorities if he could use the restroom at a local gas station en route to the police station, but when police stopped and allowed holder into the mens room by himself,he managed to escape by climbing out a back window. However,an anonymous tip 12 hours later led them to a Motel 8 where, after grappling with police in his underwear,Holder was once again placed into custody.

Holder is accused, along with the President of the United states,of master-minding a plan to allow guns into the hands of Mexican criminals who would in turn kill people in Mexico, thus allowing the Obama administration to say "Aha!You see!Guns are bad we need tighter restrictions".However, the plan went horribly wrong,or right depending on your point of view, when a border patrol agent was killed.Holder is believed to have paid the killers of the border patrol officer to leave the guns at the crime scene so that.........sigh.......so that the Obama administration could say "AHA!You see!!!!!!Gun violence!!!!We need tighter gun restrictions!!!!!!

Republicans holding this view will be running for re-election shortly.

NK

the Schlaes book is a must read for anyone interested in national bankruptcy and the risks to liberty. FDR was very different from 'Bam. FDR was vain and arrogant, and didn't realize he wasn't in control, instead he was being used as a tool by hardcore Socialists. 'Bam IS a hardcore Socialist.

NK

Clarice-- I really hope you're right. Kennedy is such a Diva, I have no idea what he's done here.

Porchlight

24 hours and we will know. It seems like we've been waiting forever.

sailor

One would hope, Clarice. Although I don't think that is particularly ethical.

Captain Hate

How can anybody ignore the number of waivers that have been granted to opt out of it? How can anybody claim how great it is when the waivers have to skew any underlying assumption about it being one big happy family.

Clarice

But relying on foreign law is, sailor?

Justices are human beings and cannot and don't block out all that's going on around them or their own prejudices and predilections..

Captain Hate

24 hours and we will know. It seems like we've been waiting forever.

Is anybody put off by how long they've been sitting on this with obviously a lot of people concerned over it? And all the attendant fanfare for tomorrow. Maybe I'm missing something but it has a carnival aspect to it that strikes me as inappropriate and unsavory.

Tonto

@Jane "Wasn't Nora Ephron married to Carl Bernstien during Watergate?"

Nora got engaged to CB several days after he won the Pulitzer. Her first husband was Dan Greenberg, whom she mocked mercilessly in Heartburn. In real life he doted on cats; in the novel she downgraded his pets to hamsters (or guinea pigs, can't remember) to render him even more ridiculous. You did not want her as an enemy.

Sue

Hit,

I had to think about that for a minute. I thought you meant you would be 54 this year. You'll understand this when you actually turn 50. My boss used to say it to me all the time. "When you're 50, you'll understand why I don't remember". Now I say it to him and he just shakes his head.

Tonto

PS: The mocking of Greenberg was gratuitous, coming relief. Her real target, obviously, was Bernstein.

Captain Hate

You did not want her as an enemy.

Maybe Satan is a giant hamster or guinea pig.

rse

NK-I disagree with you slightly. I think FDR was very influenced by his time in Germany and that was the view of socialism he brought with him. 19th century Germany was a dangerous place for young minds.

Obama is a power, hatred socialist. It's a weapon to bring down others. It's never about the altruism, even if naive, that drove FDR and Eleanor.

One more link-if this author who is on my radar from earlier activities in the 80s knew how much these Career Standards had already piqued my interest in Monday's post he would not have confirmed this is about Global Competence.

And I know precisely where the Take Action component of Common Core is located.

And don't miss Mr Confidence that Everything is Going According to Plan this Time says at the end that Common Core is readying students to "stimulate positive economic change."

Told you. I think they mean in the OWS/ fundamentally transform America sense.

Tonto

"COMIC" relief.

MaryD

Ignatz, 9:56, and others,

Here's what scares the hell out of me:

Some molasses-voiced invertebrate rep from Georgia was on Bill Bennett's radio show Monday morning and told the audience that if the mandate got turned the Republicans would vote to keep the "good" parts of the bill like parental insurance for 26 year olds and no preexisting conditions limitations because they are "popular" with the public.
The fact that crap like this is what has raised your costs so alarmingly over the past two years seems to be beyond his comprehension, as is the notion that maybe the government should admit its total incompetence and get the hell out of the healthcare business before they a screw things up even further.

Are these statist jackasses the people we are supposed to rely on to square this mess away?
I'm ready to hoist the black flag and start slitting throats.

Tom Maguire
...it has a carnival aspect to it that strikes me as inappropriate and unsavory.

You are not feeling this as a display of the stately measured reflections of our august court?

Hmm - what is the chance that on Thursday morning a clown car pulls up in front of the court and all nine justices tumble out waving nine different opinions? Here's hoping!

Jim Ryan

MaryD, you can also look for MSM talking heads to grill GOP Congressmen, saying "You got what you wanted, the end of Obamacare. Don't you think you owe it to the American people to come up with health insurance coverage for all Americans?"

NK

TomM@12:17-- as an officer of the Court, I take great umbrage at your mocking the SCOTUS Justices. What's next? you mock hedge fund operators?, central bankers? politicians? baseball team owners? For shame!

Clarice

HEH, TM..What an image!

I no longer write same day blogs on somplicated SCOTUS decisions because wending thru all those concurring and dissenting opinions and figuring out what it means in real time was driving me nuts.

For comic relief while waiting, here's the great Pelosi on the WSJ:http://bcove.me/xxngj9f1

Clarice

*Complicated*

NK

Clarice-- "The Great Pelosi", I like that (although I had a momentary disturbing mental image-- make that deeply disturbing.)

Jim Rhoads a/k/a vjnjagvet

Happy 54th, Janet. Lemme tell you, the next 18 will go fast.

The speculation about the fate of the ACA is really reaching fever pitch. I very seldom was able to predict successfully the outcome of the cases I argued to appellate courts, and most of those cases were before federal circuit court panels of only three judges.

I do think it would be unfortunate if Wickard were extended to bestow the federal government coextensive police powers with the states. Couple that with current Supremacy Clause preemption doctrine, state legislatures will be left with little reason to exist.

Appalled

The problem with the Great Pelosi Act is you have to pass it before you know what's in it. (It's kind of like a kidney stone.)

Sue

Tomorrow is going to be crowded. SCOTUS decision and contempt hearings, both on the same day. Looks to me like someone should have coordinated this better.

NK

JimR at 12:35 all true. The thought of the Congress having Plenary Police Powers is a very scary proposition -- for everyone.

peter

I know you shouldn't say anything bad about the deceased, so in Nora Ephron's case, I'll just say this about Sleepless in Seattle; it was a remake of a superior film.

jimmyk

You are not feeling this as a display of the stately measured reflections of our august court?

To be fair, I'm guessing there will be close to eight concurring or dissenting opinions, however it goes down, and that might account for the timing. They all want their say, and they want to make sure every t is crossed and i dotted. That pushes me slightly in the direction of overturning, as that's obviously the more momentous decision. That plus the fact that I made a bet at 3-to-2 odds that it would be upheld, and my track record is awful.

dublindave

Looks like FORTUNE just killed your 'Fast and Furious' witch hunt.

Ouch!

Too late, the crazy train just left the building and there's no getting off.

Chubby

((Obama is a power, hatred socialist. It's a weapon to bring down others. It's never about the altruism, even if naive, that drove FDR and Eleanor.))

rse, I'm not getting your "slight disagreement" with what NK said, it seems you are saying the exact same thing. FDR and Eleanor were useful idiots, which is what NK said, used by the hardcores. Useful idiots always fancy that they are "altruists" and the hardcores never are.

Rick Ballard

"Looks to me like someone should have coordinated this better."

Holder held in contempt on the day BOzocare is struck down?

I suppose they could have waited until BOzo served BO as the main course at a State dinner but I'm reasonably satisfied with the coordination involved. Kagan shouldn't have leaked to the WH. Once the Pinhead Troika tipped their hand with the "undercut the Supremes" play the payback became a reasonable move.

Porchlight

Maybe I'm missing something but it has a carnival aspect to it that strikes me as inappropriate and unsavory.

Well, it's not SCOTUS' fault that such a carnival has been built around it - that responsibility is fully borne by the Dems for enacting this POS in the first place. It's a big effing deal, after all, thus the decision shouldn't be rushed. They should take their time and do it right.

So I won't second guess SCOTUS before this goes down. Now if it doesn't come out like I want it to, then maybe I will second guess them. But not now.

sailor

Ginsburg's relying on foreign law was pitiful, IMHO, rather than unethical, Clarice.

Of course it is. It was only wishful thinking by the MFM dumbasses and Repukes like Cheeto Crist that were hoping against hope that 2010 was a one time thing. With Reince Priebus heading the RNC, it hasn't been overlooked in the party itself.

chubby-I think FDR believed in the German form of socialism and it was called that and he thought it would be a good fit for America. I think it is also why he did many stupid things involving Stalin.

I just wanted to reiterate I think that FDR and Eleanor both saw themselves in that German tradition that had kicked individualism to the curb thoroughly.

Well I had a triple. Another Ed Week confirmation of what I had intuited. Fresh and ready to be quoted for confirmation. Practically giddy. They are on a victory lap. Probably because this has been sought for so long and they do not think anyone will understand in time.

Stunningly stupid metaphor under the circumstances. "Water shapes a fish's existence so profoundly"

In NYS, typically, the Republican runs a token campaign, loses, and is given a sinecure. She'll probably head the Thruway Authority next.

daddy

Good Morning!

Just watching FOX I see the White House is trotting out the line that it would be unprecedented if the Supreme Court overruled the Will of the People and Congress by declaring ObamaCare Unconstitutional.

Just for refresher, in 1996 the Supreme Court overruled the Will of the People and Congress by declaring the Presidential Line Item Veto Unconstitutional.

Also worth knowing that in 2007 when G.W.Bush as President asked for a modified Presidential Line Item Veto, both Obama and Biden voted against his proposal, and "the top Senate Democrat said it was like getting a "bad sore throat," and the No. 2 House Democrat called it "a sham."

Yet by 2010, Obama as President was asking Congress for a Presidential Line Item Veto.

Just thought it was worth remembering that history as Jay Carney disingenuously blathers on about the sacrosanctity of OBamaCare.

NK

NYS? 'Bam and Cuomo campaign for Gillebrand, she wins in a walk. BTW-- is there any emptier empty suit than Gillebrand? Honestly.

Porchlight

That Barnett piece was excellent - thank you Rick for linking it. I'm glad to hear he has no regrets about the case that was made.

Captain Hate

Since tomorrow should have two whopper threads with the bidness of the day, shouldn't we have one about today's largest municipal bankruptcy filing evarrrrr?

Porchlight

Well, sbw, I know nothing about NY politics, but it seems to me that if it is that easy/meaningless to win a primary then Turner could have won. But he didn't.

I realize the likelihood of anyone beating Gillibrand is slim to none. But I can still be glad that the Tea Party made a showing - no?

daddy

Happy Birthday Janet!!!

Question: Is there a great song about a girl named Janet?

Off the top this morning I can't thing of one.

Why not?

Please educate me if you guys can come up with any Janet songs. Otherwise, the Gourds may have their work cut out for them.

sbwaters

Porch, Long was supported by Palladino, the last gubernatorial candidate to pull the pin out of the grenade and throw the pin.

Here is the Ambinder tweet from Monday:

The WH has exec orders RTG if ACA is struck down. Their content and timing I don’t know. But they’ve got contingency plans a-plenty.

His assertion is straight up so someone at the WH must have clued him in as Clarice says.

Knowing these people I'm sure they do have "contingency plans." Perhaps they know they're going to lose anyway and are going to eff everything up as best they can before they leave. I've been thinking that for awhile now.

Ambinder scoop? journalists are only one rung above politicians on the evolutionary ladder. So a journalist quoting an unnamed politician is less than worthless.

Dot:
Minus 20 at Raz today.

Today marks six consecutive days with Obama at minus 20 or lower, the first time that has happened in 2012. That last such streak was 11/28-12/3/2011.

This is the sixth time in his term that Obama has been enjoyed minus 20 or lower for a period of six consecutive days or greater, but that is nowhere near the record. That record was set 8/9-8/27/2011, at 19 days a span that covered the birthdays of seven JOMers or JOMer family members. It was also during that streak, on 8/23/2011, that Obama succeeded in achieving his lowest Ras index evah at minus 26.

Obama should be able to look forward to an equally wee-wee'd up August this year.

Things I ponder while awaiting the SCOTUS decision:

1) Why is all the discussion on healthcare centered on who pays for it, and not a word on how to contain the cost? I hope no one believes that the health care system is a competitive, free-market society.

2) How is a 26-year-old considered responsible enough to vote, but not responsible enough to have his/her own health insurance plan?

3) How did three judges on the DC Court of Appeals deem themselves technically and scientifically competent to determine that global warming is real?

NK

LouP as to #3-- the DC Cir didn't claim any expertise, they did the opposite. They correctly ruled that EPA's determination has to be substantially based on the record at EPA--and if there is a substantial basis in the record the Court won't second guess the agency. The DC Cir was duty bound to rubber stamp the EPA-- once the SCOTUS ruled (in 2007?) that the Clean Air Act applied to CO2, this case was already decided. If we don't like it, we have to convince Congress to amend the EPA to exempt CO2.

Ignatz

I live about an hour from Stockton. It has a port on the Sacramento/San Joaquin delta, but other than that has little in the way of industry except for servicing the surrounding agricultural areas.
The real estate bubble in and around Stockton was the worst I've seen anywhere as pointless subdivisions and bedroom communities almost connected it to Lodi of Creedence Clearwater 'Stuck in Lodi Again' infamy, up the freeway a few miles, most of which are empty or incomplete.
It has a few nice spots including the University of the Pacific, but is mostly a crime ridden and unpleasant mess and has been all my life.
