The pastors are angered with Obama’s recent endorsement of gay marriage. But the president has not suggested that he would back federal legislation permitting same-sex marriage.

“The black church has always been the conscience of America, and today we are calling on black pastors and black Christians to withhold support from President Obama until he corrects course,” Owens said.

I have just read that the United States has upgraded Afghanistan to "Major Ally" status. I didn't even know we had a "Major Ally" status. I can't wait to see the results of our "close cooperation" and "intelligence sharing". Maybe it just means that they shop at the PX's on the megabases.

Sounds like Yellowstone/Grand Tetons. But, if you get further west, am sitting right now in NW MT, 20 miles from the ID border. Nice mountains also by Missoula and in Glacier. Too low here to see anything spectacular, but the view of the mountains is pretty good about 60 miles SW towards Missoula.

Nothing against H&R and his trip, but the Grand Tetons have never been my favorite mountains. Heh. We lived in Denver from Jun 1996 to Jan 2002. I certainly don't view the Tetons as ugly -- but the town of Jackson I certainly do. Our joke over here in Idaho is that all the shlubs taking off from Jackson are viewing the back side of the Tetons. Over here in Idaho looking at them from the west is the front side.

My experience with the Tetons is my Mother hitting a rock and putting a hole in the oil pan of our two week old car 15 ft. from the Summit and then getting to ride shotgun in the tow truck down the mountain. My Mother must have been in a really bad mood, because of that whole trip, I remember it very well except for the three days we ended up staying at some dude ranch while awaiting the new oil pan to arrive. It had to be shipped in from back East. I remember the log cabin we stayed in on the ranch, but have zero memory of doing anything while there, which seems weird, as I was 13 and always doing something.

Yep. You were concerned because there is no trend. There has been no trend since the passage of BOzocare but there was a very definite trend from around 9/09-5/10. Obama lost the election in that period and a correct account of how he lost it would place responsibility with those who assumed BOzocare would gain in popularity (like Stimulus would ease unemployment).

The assumptions I made were very close to worst case (best case for BOzo) and are not predictions. My prediction is that black turnout will drop by at least 10% with preference dropping by a similar amount. Hispanic turnout will drop even more and Hispanic preference will be below 55%.

ABO-T1000 can continue as a lackluster mediocrity as a candidate, fulfilling every prediction I've made about him, and still win rather handily. Don't look for inspiration or leadership from him, the programmers were never tasked to develop a module incorporating those characteristics.

I'm delighted he doesn't come across in the same manner as his opponent. Two whining, sniveling nine year old pukes on stage would be too much too bear.

I have a couple of random thoughts about ACA-as-tax, and I wonder what other people think...

-- It's not that the ACA is a tax, but, in fact, it is a whole collection of taxes, as the Americans for Tax Reform list makes clear.

-- Each of those taxes has different effects on different people. Some will only be paid by high-income people. Some (many!) will only be paid by poor people.

-- I've come to believe over the last 10 days or so that Roberts is correct. The Court, by a 7-2 majority, removed the Fed's ability to drive the states into bankruptcy by forcing them to either expand their Medicaid spending or take away their federal Medicaid funding. Once that is gone, I think that it is true that all you've got left is a bunch of new taxes.

-- The taxes on people without HHS-approved insurance policies, and the taxes on their employers -- the so-called mandate -- are small change. As in every sleight-of-hand, the key is to watch the other hand. The key tax-hike here is the tax-law change which takes medical spending and imposes all sorts of new taxes upon it.

In the past, every new insurance-law tweak has been an incremental change. Even relatively big things like portability have resulted in insurance companies eliminating the policy features that the government doesn't want and selling policies that contain the features that the government does want. But I think that it is completely possible that HHS will lard up the "approved" policy structure with so much expensive stuff that it will be MORE expensive for companies and employees to buy the Approved Policy that to pay the premiums on very basic policies, AND pay the mandate/penalty/tax for not having (approved) insurance, AND pay BOTH the employer and employee social security tax and medicare tax on those premiums, AND pay state and federal income taxes on premiums. If that is true, the real tax money is not the piddling little "mandate" penalty. It's the social security, medicare, and income taxes on the insurance premiums. They have already done this for over-the-counter drugs by eliminating the ability to use MSA/HSA tax-sheltered money for them.

-- Important point to be demagogued. Ok, flogged mercilessly. Rich people don't pay social security taxes on marginal income. So Obamacare imposes a tax on the insurance premiums and healthcare spending of poor and middle class people while exempting rich people from the tax.

It was glaringly apparent in Obama's approval ratings among whites (a clear sign of general discontent) by May '10 and was not reflected in the RCP garbage averages until July. I'd like to know the source of the dough for the Quinnipiac propaganda. The PPP (Progressive Propaganda Polling) funding is clear but I can't ever recall Quinnipiac putting out this much propaganda in the past. Who's paying for it?

Porch-I prefer the Canadian Rockies but Yellowstone is a great trip for kids the ages of yours. They really love the geysers and the bubbling mud and the buffalo herds.

When I went when I was 5 the bears still came up to cars. I know what hit is saying though as we went into Salt Lake, drove up through beautiful Idaho, and then end through West Yellowstone. Stayed at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel and hiked into the Yellowstone Canyon. Far more accessible with kids than the Grand but they get idea and falls.

Then out the southern route to Teton Village. We were caught on a peak by Jenny Lake the day the twister hit Salt Lake by the temple.

So much fun to show kids that beautiful topography.

If we're gonna wish, I'll take a True Value campaign based upon Governor Romney's proven ability to recognize a situation where incompetent management was incapable of realizing the potential return on available assets. I would pick the three most notable successes and hammer them until until even the dullest LIV recognized their names.

I don't mind a little hyperbole, but much as I might sympathize with the underlying sentiment, I hate to see anything on the order of the Gestapo trivialized in political rhetoric -- it's like the ubiquitous charges of racism, which end up making it so much harder to call out the real racists who still exist.

Lest we forget, I decided it was worth refreshing my own memory at Wikipedia:

Normal methods of investigation included various forms of blackmail, threats and extortion to secure "confessions". Beyond that, sleep deprivation and various forms of harassment were used as investigative methods. Failing that, torture and planting evidence were common methods of resolving a case, especially if the case concerned someone Jewish.

The O's are skipping Martha's Vineyard this year -- but the most interesting part is that they apparently were planning a trip and then cancelled it. Even Obama must have figured out how hard it would be to contrast Romney's jet skis and expensive vacation digs with the Greyhound buses and humble HoJo's our Prez is used to.
