New PPP poll has Romney and Obama tied at 46%.

Obama only 78-17 among blacks (won 95% of them in 2008)

By 57-40 - Bain doesn't make a difference or makes people more likely to support Mitt.

By 52-39 - People view voter ID as a means to prevent fraud rather than helping Rs win.

Breakdown:
D 39
R 32
I 29

This is the PPP poll conducted for Kos. The Kos Kidz are probably pretty upset but I'm not going there to look.

PPP on Iowa:

44% now favor the unnamed Republican legislative candidate in their district, with 42% opting for the Democrat. This is a close margin, but Democrats were preferred by five points (44-39) in May. Democrats have slipped a few points with their own party’s voters, but most of the switch has come from Republicans taking 13 points of previously undecided independents.

Oh yeah, just 13 points of previously undecided independents, no biggie.

Great post at 3:59, jimmyk.
An interesting bit in this article -
ABC President: Ross report hurt coverage

"In addition to Ross's report, ABC News now faces a conflicting claim from the mother of Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes. Arlene Holmes issued a statement yesterday alleging that ABC's Matthew Mosk mischaracterized her when he reported that she had identified her son as the alleged shooter."

bold mine. Mather Mosk was a WaPo reporter that worked with the Dems in Maryland to bring down a Republican MD Governor. He got log-in info from the Dems & monitored a Freeper site after the Dems had done the set-up work. The Dems & him worked together to MAKE a story.

Reminds me of Reps.Cleaver, Lewis, Carson & Clayburn having the set-up ready at the March 20th rally. There was a news organization all set to run the story before the story happened...& it actually DIDN'T happen...but they ran with it anyway.

Porchlight

PPP did two July polls, one of registered voters and one of primary voters. Interesting contrast:

Registered voters:

Very liberal ...........7%
Somewhat liberal ...... 18%
Moderate............... 33%
Somewhat conservative....24%
Very conservative ........18%

Primary voters:

Very liberal ......... 1%
Somewhat liberal ......6%
Moderate...............16%
Somewhat conservative....40%
Very conservative ......37%

Which way do you think the November electorate will skew?

I think PPP is trying to prepare the troops for an Iowa defeat.

Re the "Let me be clear"

He said it in a somber and patriotic speech to the VFW today. Not exactly the speech for an in your eye poke (and therefore not taken that way, by me at least). The speech was fiery and patriotic and reinforcing America's greatness and commitment to Israel and our traditional allies.

Now if he took a mocking tone when discussing economics and poked fun at Obama in an economic speech and employed the "let me be perfectly clear" and a few "Unexpectedly"s and a couple of "he says he tried really hard"s :D

I'd donate bonus bucks for him to explain the 'let me be perfectly clear' as Obama's tell using the example of the 'perfectly clear' healthcare maze which isn't perfectly clear and Obama's signature accomplishment. But then I poke my dog's nose in his poop when he makes an oopsie, too. SWDIK.

Well the Pres who wants to insist that his "you didn't build that" was taken out of context just released his innovation policy for the global economy.

"While innovation is often thought to result from the operation of a free market, in fact the govt plays an instrumental role through its investments in R&D, as well as through policies that foster the commercialization of new ideas."

Sounds like govt directed economy is his intention. Actually the whole document was clearly written by people who missed that history class on what fascism actually looks like.

From what I understand, Holmes was stoked on a pain killer, probably had some adrenaline flowing he had an erection, most likely single focused. If so, he was vulnerable to someone taking the caution, patience and attitude to bring him down. Doesn't have to take one shot but just enough to draw his attention and surprise - yes surprise. You are the God out there and all of sudden instead of having your sick fun, there is a guy or gal shooting at you and you can't focus because of all the first sentence above.

Does anyone know for certain that no one in the theater was carrying? Even if its a No Carry zone that doesn't mean that someone carried unless they have magnetometers to check as you enter. Most cops won't even patronize No Carry shops, stores or facilities. So I doubt there was an off-duty there.

Romney donor bashed by Obama campaign now target of two federal audits

“It seems coincidental, but who knows,” VanderSloot told FoxNews.com Tuesday. “The problem is the president made the list, and 61 days later I get the first letter. One has to ask: Is the fact I’m being shot at the result of having a target on my back? … Was the list made with that intent?”

Holy moly. I just hung up on a recorded/automated survey about the upcoming Primary, and went to look up the Polling company, Survey USA. Here's just a tiny excerpt from their website:

If you hang up when SurveyUSA calls, in effect, you are telling us:

•It’s OK for my neighbor to speak for me.
•My neighbor feels the same way I do about how the government is run.
•My neighbor feels the same way as I do about taxes, and terrorism, and social security.
•I surrender my voice to my neighbor.
•My neighbor can tell you whether the next president should be a Republican, a Democrat, a Libertarian, or a Green candidate.
•My neighbor can tell you whether taxes should go up or go down.
•My neighbor can tell you whether global warming is real, or made up.
•My neighbor can tell you whether abortion should be legal or illegal.
•My neighbor can tell you whether I should be allowed to own a gun.
•My neighbor can tell you all about immigration, he’s smarter than I am on that topic.
•Just ask my neighbor.
•My neighbor speaks for me.

I only wish I could have hung up on them twice.

Six percent of humans go out of their way to hit animals on the road

For his experiment Rober planted rubber snakes, turtles and tarantulas on the shoulder of the road and then observed the actions of 1,000 vehicles, MSN reported. Rober found that 6 percent of drivers are -- "cold-blooded rubber-animal killers," and are willing to put themselves in harms way just to run over an animal on the side of the road.
Turtles?
Jack is Back!

Charlie,

It has been reported (possibly incorrectly) that he had taken 100mg of Vicodin in his system. Vicodin is a pain killer from what I understand. Plus the fact to do what he did you do it with an adrenaline rush unless you are a trained SEAL or Marine sniper. He wasn't either, so I expect he was high on both the pain killer and the adrenaline. Just my take.

I think the reason he was caught in his car in the parking lot was his decompression was underway and he couldn't move.

Just my opinion from surviving a few close calls my self and remembering how I felt.

I wish that I had been keeping a detailed record of all of the various polls--not just approvals and head-to-heads, but also the ones on selected issues, preferences of various classes of voters, intensity and all the rest. It seems to me that all of these ancillary polls tell a vastly different story than the one told by head-to-heads. When it's all over there will be material for a fascinating retrospective.

Public hearing scheduled on proposed New York sugary drink ban

NEW YORK – Doctors lined up at a public hearing Tuesday to speak in favor of a proposed ban on giant-sized sugary drinks at New York City restaurants, cafeterias and snack trucks, while opponents decried the plan as an assault on personal freedom and wondered what tasty but unhealthy foods might be targeted next.

[snip]

Since Bloomberg proposed the ban in May, opponents including members of the restaurant and soft drink industries as well as libertarians have accused him of attempting to institute a "nanny state" with far-reaching government controls that infringe on individual choice. City officials, meanwhile, argue they are trying to save lives in the face of an epidemic that is killing New Yorkers and costing $4 billion a year.

I love these health cost estimates. They never say what the cost would be if the people lived longer, and then died of something else. Would it be less than $4B? The implication is that it would be $0B. No Social Security, no Medicare or Medicaid - just healthy, happy people who don't cost us a dime, ever.

If only we could stop people from getting sick, we'd save a bundle!

Sue

I appreciate the advice to answer the polling calls (Another) Barbara. I had mentioned receiving a couple of calls a few weeks ago, that I did not pick up, and felt duly chastised for that.

Partly, I wasn't sure of the firm and if they were doing political polling. One evening about 2 years ago I answered a call from a polling firm. It was all about beer. Now, I have nothing against beer, but I don't drink it and never have. I tell the pollster that up front - but they insisted we proceed. It was the biggest waste of time and I felt like I was skewing the results.

Danube of Thought

"What Mr. Gottlieb omits in his letter is that the “fear” he associates with the public’s willingness to support military intervention is largely manufactured. In many of America’s military interventions since the Spanish-American War, elites have fanned, manufactured and exploited public fears to shore up support for interventions that are utterly unrelated to any national security interests but have everything to do with American corporate interests.

"Indeed, the foreign policy makers are very often once and future officers of the very corporate interests that the military is deployed to protect. Confusing economic interests with national security interests is nothing new, but as long as corporate interests dominate the policy-making apparatus, we will witness the discovery of endless enemies in need of policing.

the problem is that the State Department has exhibited a marked tendency in favor of Muslim states and causes at the expense of Israel.

U.S. - Israel relations are at an all time low.

When a key adviser to the Secretary of State and a practicing Muslim is deeply involved in the crafting of national policy, there can be no doubt about one's loyalties.

I don't know enough about Ms. Abedin, but surely we have done a piss poor job of navigating the political minefields of the Ummah with a president who reached out and perhaps the most influential Muslim diplomat in our history.

If she and the Secretary are joined at the hip as the reports indicate how have we done so poorly? We still have a laughable understanding of the Ummah at the highest levels. I would think we would have an Undersecretary in charge of keeping the various sects from each others throats.

But come January I think we will be back at the same place we started with an even more complex and dangerous political equation in the ME.
