For his experiment Rober planted rubber snakes, turtles and tarantulas on the shoulder of the road and then observed the actions of 1,000 vehicles, MSN reported. Rober found that 6 percent of drivers are -- "cold-blooded rubber-animal killers," and are willing to put themselves in harms way just to run over an animal on the side of the road.

Turtles?

Posted by: Extraneus | July 24, 2012 at 05:44 PM

Two things. Tarantulas?? Who would be able to see a tarantula while driving at highway speeds? Do we have a whole population of Ted Williamses out there?

Snakes. Guess it would depend on where you do your study. I know folks who come from rattler country who don't really like random snakes. That said I had a four foot black snake on my back porch the other day. Funny as heck because my cat went hysterical inside when he saw it through the screen door. Didn't tell the women folk around that it slithered up behind the house siding.

Turtles. Couldn't understand someone who would deliberately hit a turtle. Rescued an Eastern Painted off a road last week. Have rescued snappers, but those I herd off the road, not looking to lose fingers. Have helped many Box tortoises including a tiny two inch juvenile last summer.

I just don't think it's appropriate for a survey company to declare that my decision to not participate equals me holding a series of stupid positions.

What they were trying to say, Alice, although clumsily, I'll admit, is that your intelligent, thoughtful, informed responses may be replaced by the "neighbor" or another substitute whose dumb opinions are in opposition to your sound ones. They opted for irony, which wasn't a good choice.

(Another) Barbara

Forgot to say that it was surprising to learn you were called at work, Alice. I'd be wary of that too, as you were. All RDD telephone survey samples I've seen have been purged of business and corporate numbers, and even the robot-calls are programmed to be generated between 5 and 9 p.m., and on weekends. (Otherwise they'd way over-represent elders). But mainly I can't understand a call at one's workplace, and I would not answer there either, and would be suspicious.

Late to the party and sheets to the wind, but...

"This is an ideology which says hey, we're all the same here, we ought to take from all and give to one another and that achievement, individual initiative and risk-taking and success are not to be rewarded as they have in the past," Romney said. "It's a very strange and, in some respects, foreign to the American experience type of philosophy."

I have to take exception to this comment by Governor Romney, commenting on Obama's speech.

Mitt is dead wrong.

It is not "a very strange and in some respects, foreign to the American experience type of philosophy."

It is in actuality exactly the philosophy that reigned in jamestown between 1607-1611, and in the Plymouth Colony between 1619-1623.

It was a philosophy absolutely and totally engaged in by these new Americans, and which because it lead to abject and complete failure, and the almost total annihilation of their colonies during their first crucial few years, it was rejected in mass and replaced by the system that champions personal property, the rights and common sense of the citizen, and the brilliance of the free market to provide the solutions that centralized government bureaucracies cannot.

So Mitt you were wrong. It is not that that system is foreign to America. It is instead that that system was initially employed by Americans, then rejected in mass because it manifestly did not and cannot work, and Capitalism is the wonderful alternative that does work.

The Guinness is talking but tonight I think it makes a rather good point:)

2d Qtr GDP: 1.6%

GDP is helped by reduced trade deficits from lower oil prices; BLS is put under enormous pressure not to print a negative number, so they manage is nominal positive.

Margin of Fraud-- unfortunately, the POTUS fraud issue is not as simple as Clarice made it out last night. 'Bam's fraud strategy is obvious- in Battleground States, go to Blue pockets, especially those pockets with --er-- people of color and stuff the boxes there, just enough to swing the state. So in Pa. the fraud will be concentrated in North Philly and the derelict towns in SW Pa., In Va. Roanoke, Inner Richmond and Norfolk, In Ohio Cleveland and Akron, etc etc. In a tight State wide race, 10,000 phantom votes could swing any of these States. It's a real issue- Romney has to stay on top of it.

Q2 GDP - +.9
Top lines in the current crop of earnings reports have missed as often they have hit. The 99 week cutoff has had an impact as has the increase in the number of part time hires.

NFP - 0/-50K for full time. Any bump will be entirely due to part time hires.

The amount of fraud required to swing the election is beyond credible consideration. Red Obama has driven away 20% of the Democrat Party. That's 8-9 million votes by itself. The results in Wisconsin are indicative of what is going to happen. The rural and suburban vote is going to swamp the Blue Ghetto attempts at theft.

Voldemort Delenda Est ! Sandy Daze

So, to rephrase my question from last night. . .

If we get to the point in mid-October wherein it is plainly obvious that Voldemort will not win, no matter how much fraud and dirty tricks are undertaken, will he and his cabal go quietly into the night, recognizing that their brand of politics has failed, epically failed?

Or, will that group undertake whatever actions necessary to ensure continuation of power. . .?

NK, what is the significance of the State Senator droping out of the Dem Party?

No change in Senate control during the out of session time through November.

The guy is a former Senate Majority Leader for the D's. That the current crop kicked him to the curb for a bunch of far left loons says something about the current Dem agenda. The guys behind the recalls control the Dems here, and even traditional Democrats (like Cullen) hate them & visa versa.

This may be the same Dem split we are seeing nationally between the far left and the sane.

November? First we have to get through the Senate primary in August-- Thompson can't get traction, Neumann is tanking, nobody really trusts Hovde, and Jeff Fitzgerald has no money... right now Hovde has the "momentum". Whichever wins should beat Tammy Baldwin, she's running left of Obama and Warren. Romney has a chance even with the fraud: the unions here are broke and the national unions have lots of states to split their efforts over (they can't all hit here like in the recount).

Has there ever been a Chicago --> Iowa union fraud operation?

The "didn't build that" walk back by 'Bam is truly pathetic, epically pathetic. 'Bam is an imbecile. That's why Putin, the ChiComs, Castro and the rest of the world's thugs are desperate to keep him in place.

Danube of Thought

If a Cabinet Member committed crimes (I assume we're talking about Holder here)

You really can't be sure he's committed a crime until he's been tried and convicted. Porchlight

Where does 'Bam win a battleground state? Florida? Va?

I am worried about VA but not FL. I think Obama will hold NV and CO. After that I have no idea.
