Who are you going to believe, Obama or your lying ears? Obama has a new ad out "explaining" his infamous "You didn't build that" Kinsley gaffe:
"Those ads taking my words about small business out of context - they're flat out wrong," the president says in the 31-second pitch. "Of course Americans build their own businesses. Every day, hard-working people sacrifice to meet a payroll, create jobs and make our economy run."
"And what I said was that we need to stand behind them, as America always has, by investing in education and training, roads and bridges research and technology," he says. "I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message because I believe we're all in this together."
Stand behind small business? I think Obama means, kneel behind small business and wait for someone to deliver a push, so that money falls out of their pockets on the way down.
Let's have a bit more of that "stand behind" context:
But you know what, I’m not going to see us gut the investments that grow our economy to give tax breaks to me or Mr. Romney or folks who don’t need them. So I’m going to reduce the deficit in a balanced way. We’ve already made a trillion dollars’ worth of cuts. We can make another trillion or trillion-two, and what we then do is ask for the wealthy to pay a little bit more. (Applause.) And, by the way, we’ve tried that before -- a guy named Bill Clinton did it. We created 23 million new jobs, turned a deficit into a surplus, and rich people did just fine. We created a lot of millionaires.
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
So Obama is going to "stand behind" these small businesses while waiting for them to "give something back", as if they are not already paying taxes? Sounds like he intends to pick their pockets.
MEANWHILE, OVER AT THE NEWS OUTLET FORMERLY KNOWN AS MSNBC:
I thought he meant standing behind the small business owner and telling him to . . . lean forward.
Of course I am stealing that.
The fact remains that there ARE preconditions to the success of a business -- private property, the rule of law, free enterprise, stable governments, strong defense. Obama is right about that.
IF this is all Obama meant, then it is a triviality that is not worth mentioning. Granted, almost anything Obama says that isn't a lie is a triviality not worth mentioning, but in this case it takes great effort and several ounces of fairy dust to believe that that is ALL he was saying. And by "triviality" I mean, no one claims otherwise, so it is essentially meaningless to claim that he is "right about that."

((If he's so good at balancing the budget why will not a single member of his own party vote for his proposed budgets? what am I missing?))

As a volunter unpaid Obama Campaign consultant, it is my recommendation that he now follow this brilliant ad up with ads making perfectly clear that: a)he was never at the church when Reverend Wright (who was not his "mentor") said all those horrible anti-American things; and b) he never called his grandmother a "typical white person."

jimmyk --
I basically agree with you. What he said was not wrong, but so axiomatic as to be close to meaningless.
But I think it is useful to recognize that he was not wrong and in truth no one truly succeeds in building a business all by themselves. However, that does not mean that all success in business is due to some collective "we" that can take credit (and the profits) from that enterprise.
Henry Ford did not invent the automobile and Bill Gates did not invent the computer. They benefitted from the contributions of others who came before. But that does not mean that Ford and Gates and so many others did not make major contributions to life and society for which they should be greatly rewarded.

Theo, there was an "if" in my statement. I agree with the others here that he did not say that. You are reading between the lines and trying to project something unarguable onto his words. My point was even if you do that, all you get is a triviality. But that was not the plain meaning of his words.

****BREAKING NEWS******DONALD TRUMP STARTS MIXING MORTAR TO BUILD HIS NEW CASINO******
In what many are describing as just another day in the life of Tycoon and television celebrity, Donald Trump, the self made Millionaire began mixing the mortar for the foundation of his new casino which he plans to build himself-with no help whatsoever. The project is expected to take 176 years to complete and cost just over 18 trillion dollars.

OT, somebody on one of these threads posted the Pitzer putz' address. I googled it, and looked at street view. I can't believe that a college professor who fancies himself an anarchist could live in such a mundane boring cookie cutter neighborhood. The funny thing is that the Google camera took a picture of what appear to be Mexican workers working on the property. Couldn't he do better than to live in a tract home. Posted by: henry | July 25, 2012 at 03:08 PM
Dear Henry-- we were having a right friendly soccer conversation before you interrupted with the typical men's player observation about refs. I never played the game, I got involved when my son turned out to be a good player, and after refereeing for a few years and being promoted to higher level games I learned that you guys play differently than any another sport-- you give a running commentary to the ref during the game! And guys are far worse than ladies-- at least directly at the refs, I would hate to hear what the ladies say behind our backs. Soccer players bitch and moan ceaselessly, it's unbelievable. Even St Henry of Wisc probably did it back in the day. One plus from the players complaining-- I can swear in portuguese, spanish, greek, Italian and Albanian.

MelR-- PROTECT THE KEEPER (Goalie)!!! the harsh discipline goes against the ATTACKING player-- Keepers are of course permitted to maintain order by protecting the ball with shoulder charges and high elbows. The most important decision I ever made was a U18 College recruiter Tourney during Thanksgiving involving a Coastal Maine Club Keeper knocking out cold a Westchester FC striker on a 50/50 ball just ourside the area. I was able to make the right decision because it took 2-3 minutes to get the Westchester kid back on his feet, so I had time to think it through and consult with the ARs. The Keeper stayed on with a caution-- much to the disbelief of the Westchester FC coach.

Well, the Cathy's are Christian. I'm sure they will pray for these lost souls, and would certainly never resort to the same bullying tactics. I do hope that Chik-fil-A does not back down and allow 2% of the population to dictate how they do business.
I'm sure these gays and lesbians have the employees, and their families, and their families well being in mind when they petition to close them down, and force them out of work in this economy.

Well then I pray fervently (and more frequently) that your prayers not be answered. The only way we get to a sane budget and start making the Fed Govt live within the means we can afford, is for there not to be a squish or two that must be placated to pass reform. Henry-- FYI, the caution on the Keeper was for deliberately handling the ball outside the area. The 2-fisted punch to the Attacker's jaw? fair play! it was a 50-50 Ball and the Keeper fisted it away before the Attacker got to the ball. The Westchester coach was not impressed with my decision.

I imagine after the convention when everyone gets to hear Romneys incredible story that it will start showing in the polls especially when they start using likely rather than registered votes in those polls. Read an incredible article today about how he saved the Olympics by slashing all unnecessary expenses even charging for Pizza slices during meetings and even though Coke donated product he still have everyone pay for their drinks. He cut everything that was not a must do completely out and took the Olympics from the fiscal hole it was in to a $166 million surplus. Cannot wait to see what he can do with our budget!

LIke the NFL goes to London - we should have a EPL game here once and a while. Even if it is NYC or DC, the EPL should do it during their season, either early (the fall) or later (the spring). After all, both Liverpool and Manchester are American owned now. When we lived in London we became big Chelsea fans, although my family and its businesses were Tottenham sponsors since their formation. To this day, my cousins are big time season ticket holders for The Spurs. Frederick's godfather, on the other hand is a season ticket holder for Chelsea.
BTW, great little thread here on soccer. Mel even looks like a goalie - who'd have known:)
Coming down to Miami we had Boortz and Rush on. Boortz read the Iowahawk piece on the Genesis parody. Frederick got upset that someone would parody God:) Altar boys!
Then Rush spent 3 hours "crucifying" the NBC/WSJ poll which was skewed by 11% to represent (to their biased minds) what the Dem v. Rep turnout will be in November 46 to 35! Then he laid into Obama and I mean he was right on top of him like Trayvon on George. Covering his mouth, banging his head, punching his nose, beating the hell out of him. But Barry had no gun.

Because when Iowa went first what did they do? Did they rally round a viable candidate? Or did they go with "What Would Jesus Do?" concept?

It looks like ABC just cannot get any of its story on the Aurora shooter right.
The spitting at guards, the face mask, all bullshit.
Oh, and it is an ABC affiliate in Denver that says so.

Uh Oh: More executive orders being announced
Mark Knoller @markknoller
At the National Urban League Convention in New Orleans tonight, Pres Obama will announce a new education initiative for African-Americans.
Mark Knoller @markknoller
It's called The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African-Americans - to be established by Executive Order.

Figures. Has the "body armor" been verified or dis-proven yet? That report helped argue against anyone having a chance at taking him out if they'd been carrying.

"The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African-Americans"
Racist, by definition.

Sue @ 4:12....You may have a point, however the longer this debate continues over Barry's BC authenticity, the more I lean towards his having a father not even mentioned on the BC. Possibly he was born in Indonesia or maybe Canada (to explain the Hawaiian hospital refusing to produce his birth record). Vancouver isn't that far from Seattle, and we know Stanley Ann was in Washington State shortly after Barry's birth. That is, if Barry's BC birth date is correct. ;)
Since Barry is half black, I'm curious about the identity of his real father. Did the Dunham family use Obama Senior (and did Obama Senior use the Dunhams to enhance his immigration status) in an attempt to protect FMD?

I know this is hard to believe because the family doctor said hours after the crash that Kerry Kennedy had no drugs or alcohol in her blood, but the police tests say she was loaded up on Ambien.

The Executive Order also creates an Advisory Commission to work with the Secy of Educ on implementing the African-American initiative.

CentralCal-- I guess 'Bam really is slipping with AA voters. His response? Pathetic of course.
Posted by: NK | July 25, 2012 at 05:40 PM
NK - my thoughts exactly. He wants to look like he is doing something "special" for the AA community.
Time will tell, how special, I guess.

Unlike normal workers, Kim Jong-un's former flame, or current wife, shows the way.

((Was it the "angry white man" appeal?))
probably not because one thing Romney is not is an "angry white man", --he's cheerful, optimistic, and entertains a high vision of what America was designed to be and should be and could be

This Chick - Fil - A brouhaha symbolizes the Orwellian Newspeak that the Left is brainwashing our kids with.
Somehow, being pro traditional marriage is now a hate crime. The scum at the top of the Democratic Party have opened the floodgates to 1984 and for this I will never forgive them.
Their dishonesty is against all reason and logic and only seeks power. It is a dark force that is evil at its roots.

Someone should suggest they create the Barack Obama Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Educational Excellence.
See LUN for context.

Cronies-- so 'bam's henchmen violated contract law when they railroaded the Chrysler Bondholders; then they violated Fed law in giving a special break to Solyndra Bondholders who were cronies. Notice a pattern? http://washingtonexaminer.com/report-energy-department-scrambled-to-justify-letting-solyndras-private-backers-recoup-losses-before-taxpayers/article/2503153?custom_click=rss

--I guess 'Bam really is slipping with AA voters.--
No kidding. If at the end of July Barry is still having to nail down the black vote he might as well concede now but serve out his term so he can golf using AF1 for the next six months.
Would do him and the rest of us all a world of good if he spent the rest of his time looking for his balls in the deep rough.
