It's good to remember a blowout.

Up at Reddit someone posted that in 1984 Reagan won 49 states. And, the one he lost, he lost by a mere 4000 votes.

After Christmas, back in 1984, the first one to comment at Reddit said: He remembered a news reporter back then asking Reagan what he would have liked for Christmas. And, "without missing a beat" Reagan responded: Minnesota would have been nice.

Thank you chaco. It was awfully coincidental and they hit about same time. It's now about 20.

And thanks to cathy f for her comment. Private schools are actually quite susceptible to all this through the accreditors and because the teachers hear cognitive mapping and think wonderful idea.

So please don't feel too protected if your kid is in private school. In australia now they are express targets to adopt the whole agenda. That seems true in other countries too. The French are still protecting their elite schools but took away the nonelite access routes.

George Will: "Romney "Losing" Argument Over Tax Returns"

“If something's going to come out, get it out in a hurry. I do not know why, given that Mitt Romney knew the day that McCain lost in 2008 that he was going to run for president again that he didn’t get all of this out and tidy up some of his offshore accounts and all the rest...He's done nothing illegal, nothing unseemly, nothing improper, but lots that's impolitic."

"...people are going to say there's -- the cost of not releasing the returns are clear. Therefore, he must have calculated that there are higher costs in releasing them."

Bill Kristol: "Romney ‘crazy’ not to release tax returns"

“He should release the tax returns tomorrow,” the neoconservative pundit told Fox News’ Brit Hume. “It’s crazy. You’ve got to release six, eight, ten years back tax returns.”

“Take the hit for a day or two,” Kristol recommended. “He has to give a big speech in defense of capitalism, and that will elevate, I think, this race above this tactical back in forth, which I do think he’s on the margin of losing.”

NRO: "Release The Returns"

"Romney argues that whatever he releases will not be enough to satisfy the Obama campaign and its factota in the media, who are, once again, proving their bias and double standards. Romney is right, but he should release the returns anyway."

"If he releases more returns, Romney will be in a better position to resist the inevitable demands for even more disclosures."

IMHO They are collectively delusional.

lyle

If he releases more returns, Romney will be in a better position to resist the inevitable demands for even more disclosures."

What utter rot. The FMFM (use your imagination) will never be satisfied or satiated with enough disclosures. I know I'm not the first to suggest this but Mitt should agree to release some info the same time Bozo releases F&F docs. Quid pro freakin' pro, Zero.

Don't know your guys opinions on this but I think Mitt will be damned by the Left no matter what he does, so quit bending over backward to the demands of the Left and start making some demands of our own.

RichatUF

daddy-

Yep. They are delusional. Maybe they are looking to get into some good DC parties.

He's done nothing illegal, nothing unseemly, nothing improper...

If all that is true then the issue has put to rest. How did Bush releasing thousands of pages of Nat Guard records-even stuff that was irrelevent to his service-help with the media because they went out a fabricated a few memos (for the dems Fortunate Son campaign) anyway? Geeze, the Obama campaign has already called Romney a felon-how is a few years of tax returns going to make an apology for that forth coming.

daddy

"If he releases more returns, Romney will be in a better position to resist the inevitable demands for even more disclosures."

In a sane world this is what NRO would actually be telling themselves:

"If we keep telling him to release more returns, Romney will be in a worse position to resist the inevitable demands for even more disclosures because the Media and the Left can now use our naive columns and idiotic comments to increase that pressure on him and make it look like he's hiding something. Instead we should support Romney's decision and aggressively start using our megaphones to demand transparency from Obama."

"Great video of the bears, but don't think I could ever get used to the idea of wildlife that up close and personal."

Rich, It is interesting how you just sort of get used to it.

When we first moved up 15 years back, I was much more into biking, where you run into moose (a lot), and bears (very rarely) but, usually you have time to adjust or stop, and gradually you figure out if they are angry or just munching, and after considerable experience, figuring out how to bypass them almost happens by second nature.

Since getting the dogs I'm now restricted to hiking, so I'm now slow and plodding with no chance of outrunning anything. That means an awful lot more chance of bear encounters, but the more I hike the more you get used to knowing you're sharing the territory with these guys and experienced at it.

I try to keep alert and to make plenty of noise. Somehow knowing they're out there adds a bit of excitement on long walks and really makes you feel alive. It really does add to the experience of being alive. When I lived in Memphis I felt like every day was simply a day ticked off of my life. Up here, because of the natural beauty and all the rest, even in miserable weather days I feel every day is pretty much life well lived.

Hope those ain't famous last words:) KayyRoooo!

Oh, sorry -- the masthead is the place in any periodical that lists the important editorial staff members. NRO is considered an adjunct to the magazine rather than a separate thing, and it doesn't look like they have a separate editorial masthead, but their whole masthead is here:

http://www.nationalreview.com/authors

Rich Lowry is The Editor, so you wouldn't be far wrong to say that's Lowry's work, but when it's signed by "The Editors" that means it's the publication's position.

Have a look at a print copy of the magazine.

James D.

lyle - wouldn't it be great to hear Mitt say that in a debate with Zero right there on stage where he'd have to react and respond to it?

"Do not pay the Dane-geld, Mitt."

Absolutely correct.

One more rant on this George Will comment:

"He's done nothing illegal, nothing unseemly, nothing improper, but lots that's "He's done nothing illegal, nothing unseemly, nothing improper, but lots that's impolitic."

Impolitic, Impolitic, impolitic.

George Will is in DC trying to win battles for Conservative's by slinging around words like "Impolitic."

Obama is trying to win battles by slinging around the word "Fairness."

Advantage Obama.

Why the hell Will thinks a 2 Dollar word like "impolitic" is going to resonate with fly over country is beyond me.

George, listen up: Here is how to state the argument effectively:

"This is an issue of "Fairness".

American people understand "Fairness." If President Obama and the Media want "Fairness", then so be it. Then Romney will release his Tax returns if and when Obama releases his Passport, his Transcripts, his applications to College, his Selective Service application, his Fast and Furious documents, his whatever the hell else he's hiding. That's "Fairness." The American people understand that.

They understand that if a demand is being made to one side, then "Fairness" requires that an equal demand be made of the other side. It may or may not be "Impolitic", whatever the hell that means, but it's "Fair", and even a 10 year old kid raised in our totally shitty Public School system can still understand it.

So enough of the Bullshit "Impolitic" George. Get your head out of your Beltway rectum and appeal to the common American with common words like "Fairness."

For a smart sunuvubitch you sure are a stupid sunuvabitch@#$%!

Yes, it would, James D. That would be the moment I could stop my Mittcitement pill dosing. After reading what Mitt's saying in Ohio today, I think I'm going to get by on a transdermal patch. Yay.

hrtshpdbox

I doubt very much that Romney will release more tax returns; or, perhaps he'll produce another year or two of recent returns. If it's true that "if you know you'll have to do it eventually, then politically you're better off doing it now", then logic suggests that Romney knows he won't have to do it to win. I also don't buy the notion that Romney's too "nice", as he plainly was an SOB to Newt and Santorum; it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Romney talking a lot about F&F, the National Security leaks, even Rev Wright and Bill Ayres - I'd be more surprised if he doesn't. I think Romney is probably a lot smarter than even most of his supporters give him credit for. Imagine that there's some damning bit of info about Obama that Romney's sitting on - he certainly wouldn't have released it earlier, as he wanted to make sure it's Obama he ran against, and not Hillary. No, he'd be doing exactly what he's been doing, playing steady Eddie, ignoring critics who want to see him more "fired up" - and just biding his time until springing that October surprise.

I'm waiting to see what the next clown shoes Bloomberg poll shows; in June they had Obama up 13. I'm even more interested in when that "smart money" at intrade starts to show Romney with a fighting chance. I'm particularly puzzled by the betting lines; if it's close in Michigan (meaning that Ohio would be a GOP lock), and if there's been a sea change in Wisconsin (and who, besides those who cite faulty Walker exit polls, could believe otherwise?), the betting should be even now, or with a slight Romney advantage.

Clarice

George Will doesn't believe a word of what he wrote about Romney's tax returns.

He just likes to channel his inner 'middle class swing voter' before every election. Which is ironically neither middle class nor a voter -- swing or otherwise -- and his projection can't read the electorate any better than O can read the constitution.
