It's another night at the convention. I have sort of been ducking this one, partly due to a back to school crush and partly because my real focus is on the Dem activity next week. Unless the Dems shock us by nominating someone other than Barack, I don't need any speeches to guide my vote this November.
Well, I say that. If Mitt takes the stage tomorrow and starts speaking in tongues, I may reconsider voting for him.
No I won't. OK, how about if he takes the stage, speaks in tongues and takes hostages? Hmmm...
I don't care if Mitt recites the Book of Mormon in Esperanto. Barack Obama is not getting my vote.

Posted by: Captain Hate | August 29, 2012 at 08:09 PM
Why did they bother giving McCain a slot? He was the most room-temp candidate since Dole. What's he bringing to the table?
Plus, the rat-f***ing his people did to Palin was IMO unforgivable. You just don't do that to the candidate *you* picked.
Posted by: Another Bob | August 29, 2012 at 08:12 PM
This speech by McCain is actually pretty good, but I'm getting *really* tired of this theme of never speaking the name of Barack Heinous Obama.
Posted by: PD | August 29, 2012 at 08:12 PM
It's 'crunch' then, if it can't be 'crush'.
And now I am totally re-imagining the 70's Broncos and their Orange Crush defense. Not that there is anything wrong with crushing on orange, or any other color.

"What's he bringing to the table?"
An ego requiring a blimp hanger for storage. Not that he ever stores it. Just cross your fingers that he doesn't get a chair and isn't allowed anywhere near any kind of leadership position in the Senate.
Posted by: Rick Ballard | August 29, 2012 at 08:17 PM

Rick Ballard | August 29, 2012 at 08:17 PM:
Would McCain be any worse than a democrat in any committee chairmanship? The good news is that'd mean Team R took back the Senate.
McConnell's remarks made me think he'll be the next Strom Thurmond, having aides handing him cards to read with him having no clue what he's reading.

OT but of interest.
A three-judge panel in Florida has ruled that a former neighborhood watch leader charged in the fatal shooting of teenager Trayvon Martin should be granted a new judge in his case.
Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal ruled Wednesday that Judge Kenneth Lester should enter a motion to disqualify himself in George Zimmerman’s second-degree murder case. Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara asked the court earlier this month to overturn a previous ruling by Lester not to leave the case.
One of the three judges dissented in the ruling.

Another Bob,
I'll have to get back to you after review of the net result of his collaboration with Feingold, Lieberman and the Gang of Seven. My comment assumes a Republican majority and his propensity to seek the limelight coupled with my inability to discern instances where he has been guided by conservative principles leads me to hope that the caucus continues to grant him all the respect which it has given him in the past.

But it seems every day there is another story about how she isn't getting face time or speech time or whatever. I don't know what she expects. She didn't endorse Romney and still doesn't. She chokes on getting any words out that might be taken as positive about Mitt. Did she really expect she would get a front and center position in this Convention?

Oh, yes, those college kids will be staying away in droves:
"The future frightening payoffs of college loans are taking a backseat to the immediate and soaring costs of health insurance students are getting slapped with as they return to school this fall, all thanks to Obamacare.
Because of a rule in the Affordable Care Act that lifts caps on policy payoffs, the cheap insurance policies typically healthy students previously got are skyrocketing, some over 1,000 percent. The reason: Without payoff caps, insurance firms are boosting prices to cover their potential losses.
One example: a late July email to incoming students from Guilford College of Greensboro, N.C. revealed a jump from $668 to $1,179, a 75 percent jump. The reason stated: "Our student health insurance policy premium has been substantially increased due to changes required by federal regulations issued on March 16, 2012 under the Affordable Care Act.""
