The Presidential debate commission announces the debate moderators.
PBS's Jim Lehrer will host the first presidential debate on Oct. 3 in Denver, Colo. CNN's Candy Crowley will host the second, town-hall debate on October 16 in Hempstead, N.Y. CBS's Bob Schieffer will host the third debate on Oct. 22 in Boca Raton, Fla.
ABC's Martha Raddatz will host the vice presidential debate on Oct. 11 in Danville, Ky.
I love the first comment at Politico:
Debate moderators were chosen for diversity - a network liberal, a cable liberal, a PBS liberal and a female liberal.
Yup. But as newsies go, these are about as centrist as could be expected, since both sides have to agree on each choice.
CA politicians pull the plug on public affairs TV coverage of budget testimony.
http://hjta.org/california-commentary/censorship-another-step-road-despotism
"I was invited to testify before the Senate Governance and Finance Committee by Chairwoman Lois Wolk. ... I was asked to speak specifically on Proposition 30, the Governor’s massive tax hike proposal. In her letter the Senator said, “This hearing is required by law and is intended to inform the public of each initiative’s contents . . . .” ...
Although Senator Wolk opened the proceedings reiterating her hope that the hearing would assist voters in making reasoned decisions on controversial ballot measures, someone else higher up in the Senate hierarchy was intentionally “pulling the plug” on the California Channel (CalChannel) coverage. CalChannel is a public affairs channel carried on most cable systems. While not a ratings hit, the service exists so that interested members of the public, many of whom are in no position to travel to Sacramento, can tune in and view proceedings as if they were in the hearing room.
...
Speaking to a reporter, Steinberg spokesman, Rhys Williams, justified the disruption of CalChannel service this way: “It was inappropriate to provide legislative resources to promote the ballot measure campaigns of either side, and in particular to make those public-funded resources easily available for exploitation in political TV commercials.”

Great catch on that Little Bighorn NPS revealing "error" last night, bgates. I've been there, and there is something both moving and eerie about the place. The hair on the back of my neck literally stood up. But don't worry too much about the name-change of the battleground or the "fortunately" on the website. We had a ranger guide who was a descendant of the Army's Crow scouts who was unflinching in his dismissal of the politically-correct version of history, and if he didn't get fired, there is hope.
DuDa, if you weren't a miserable cur only concerned about receiving crumbs from your master Soros' table for trying to disrupt our forum, you would know that Mrs. Ignatz is a lovely woman in every respect who is valiantly fighting a protracted battle for her life against cancer, and you would not write such foul, debased comments involving her. I'm pretty sure Mrs MtnViewCA ordered through the Instapundit link. But is JOM also an affiliate? I see the ads on the right hand side--does TM get a few shekels if we buy from Amazon through JOM?
Hmmm, if I mention "Amazon" in a comment does that cause Amazon to post more ads here? Or does it only help them decide which ads to flash at me on other sites?

We long-time Californians recall that it was Moonbeam the first time around who started it all by giving public employees collective bargaining rights. They, in cooperation with the state's Democratic legislature and local officials, have saddled the state with burdens it cannot possibly meet.

I'd like to approach voter ID differently: Without the word 'voter'. Complain to your prog friends about some new government plan that's supposed to provide an official government ID to anyone who doesn't have one already. As if anybody without a driver's license would ever need to get on a plane, or go in a bar! Those people are getting by just fine without spending taxpayer dollars on'em. As if I care that having a valid photo ID is going to make some deadbeat's encounter with the cops go more smoothly. As if the government would even be capable of verifying the identity of anyone and everyone who wanted one! -and it would be a flood of people, too. Why, there must be 50 million adults in this country who don't have a driver's license!
And another thing, don't tell me about "stimulus". There's nothing stimulating about hiring a bunch of government workers to take a bunch of photographs and record a bunch of data, even if the end result is to give millions of citizens access to a vast range of economic transactions that they couldn't have participated in before.
...
I bet it wouldn't be that hard to get a prog spitting mad (well, right) and insisting that the government has a moral responsibility to provide universal ID coverage, which would just involve a tiny expansion of existing programs anyway, and anybody who opposed ensuring that every adult citizen had an ID is a racist. Once they've thundered that our government can and should - nay, must - provide such documentation, then ask about voting.

RobC-- very nice Yamato reference. Yamato only fired those 460mm big boys twice in anger. At the battle of Leyte Gulf against Taffey 1 and taffey 2, and on the suicide run towards Okinawa-- and on that occasion they were fired in the flight path of Avenger torpedo bombers on the theory that the geisers would deter the runs. Still, you know what I see coming out of those 450 million rounds? 450 million spent casings for Georgia Arms to reload.
And they can buy up all the .40cal they want. Not one of my calibers.

Horshack of Welcome Back Kotter (Ron Palillo) has died at age 63. Pretty young.

For my part, I can take duda or leave him. He's quite dumb, and so it's a trifling matter to smack him down quite smartly--but it's a little like tearing the wings off a fly. But it seems there is a pretty broad consensus that he's unacceptably disruptive, so henceforth I won't respond to him at all.
O.k.Let's see how long you can keep that up. My guess is about three minutes because you have no moral core at all,Danube of thought.Quick quick,DOT,what does rassmuseen say about your moral core???????

Sue-I got the same impression from the ABC News last night. Plus Jonathan Carl seems to genuinely like Paul Ryan and it simply came across.
Alice H-I wrote about NOAA about 2 weeks ago and their intention to use the social sciences and education and communication to alter student's mindsets on Climate Change regardless of the actual facts.http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/if-reality-is-ignored-or-disregarded-when-do-we-become-a-state-against-its-people/
A govt agency in a supposedly free country willing to do that has a lot to fear from that disclosure being public.
The Administration that pushed for uch an intrusive change has even more when facing the electorate this fall.

How is Mr. Soptic going to react
How would we ever know? I don't think the press has time to talk to every former steelworker in the country, not when the Republicans just picked a VP nominee who looks like he might have thrown spitballs at gay-looking kids in junior high school study hall.
And if Soptic searches out a press outlet willing to give time to his confused ramblings, that's the kind of thing a guy might do one time before he overdoses on aspirin.

If it's a TyphusPad problem, the July '11 number was $977.6 million versus the July '12 number of $587 million. California has a tremendous parasite population and an unemployment rate commensurate with its status as a deep Blue Hell. The economic collapse suggested by the 40% reduction in revenue may be full blown OPM withdrawal.
Weren't there some companies involved with building totems to the Sun God which ceased operations? I seem to recall something about stimulus money having been directed to Sun God Worship Centers.
