Chris Christie and Marco Rubio will get star turns at the Republican convention:
Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, will bring his blunt, everyman style of politics to a much bigger, prime-time stage as the keynote speaker of the Republican National Convention, officials announced on Tuesday.
Mr. Christie, who briefly considered running for president himself last year, will deliver one of the most closely watched speeches of the week. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, a Republican rising star who had been considered as a vice-presidential nominee for Mitt Romney, will introduce Mr. Romney at the convention, which will be held in Tampa, Fla.
This is how Obama got launched in 2004. Yike.

That would make the "this is how Obama got launched" a reference to Christie, not Rubio.

Many of my friends in NJ are retired teachers who consider themselves Republicans. They are all for fiscal restraint ecxept, of course, when it comes to teacher salaries and benefits. They consider Christie a mean teacher hating bully. They cant figure out why he is so popular in this state. This news has their heads exploding. Trying to discuss underfunding of public pensions and healthcare is fruitless. The class warfare in Nj is public vs private sector. The public sector truly has no clue what is going on in the private sector. I am talking about the "rank and file ", not the leaders. They were truly amazed to how much insurance premiums are. Medicare costs aren't an issue for them either because the state pays for their Medicare and supplement. Their idea of a republican is Susan Collins and/or Chris Shay. They are in a true dilemma. They don't like democrats because they want to protect their accumulated wealth, but they also want their benefits untouchable so voting republican is now a problem for them too. In a way, its kind of funny seeing them trying to figure out what to do.

Was it DoT who was asking about NH polling a few weeks back, and why it hadn't moved? I have been watching it too and worrying a bit as I have long thought NH was the most likely Kerry state for Romney to flip, since Bush lost it by only 1 point and it's Romney's backyard.
Looks like there is finally some movement:
http://www.unh.edu/survey-center/news/pdf/gsp2012_summer_presapp071712.pdf
Obama won NH by 10 points and was leading Romney by 9 in April according to this poll. Now they have it Obama 49-Romney 45, within the MOE.
Women favor Obama overall but working women are now finally breaking for Romney, and they outnumber college educated NH women 2-1.
Indies evenly split, Romney 41-Obama 40.
The sample is 521 adults with a subset of 470 LVs.

Rick Ballard is right - the Ryan pick indicates Romney is not worried about Ohio or Florida. I think Romney is spending a lot of money on internal polling and this is no surprise to his people. That's why Ryan was selected with confidence.

Porchlight,
Dunno about that. The manipulation of the Battleground sample was very disappointing. Gallup has not published their Party Affiliation data for the first week of August and the 'hold' typically (for Gallup) indicates bad news for BOzo. The MFM/Uni garbage polls seem to be a "keep hope alive" effort which may run past the conventions.

Posted by: Appalled | August 14, 2012 at 03:49 PM
A friend was telling me about a poll he saw whereby 76% of the country knows somebody who is looking for a job. So even if you're working yourself, you're probably worried about whether or not you, too, are going to be joining the unemployment line soon. Incomes are down, and the prices of essentials such as food and gas are going up. A lot of people are hurting in Obama's economy, and they see no end in sight.
If Romney can sell the idea that he really does have a plan to end the pain, he's going to win in a landslide. I think the Ryan selection goes a long way toward that end--Ryan's got national name recognition as the man with a Plan. The Dems believe they can make political hay by sniping at his plan, but what's their plan? More of the same misery we've been suffering through these last four years? Saying we don't have a plan ourselves, but we don't like the other guys' plan doesn't cut any ice when things are this bad.
People want solutions, ideas, PLANS. In the end they'll go for the guy with the plan.

Obama really needs to get his campaign out of the gutter. He's gone beyond disgracing himself--he's disgracing the office. He's disgracing the country. He's also a fool, because one of the few positives--perhaps the only positive--his campaign had left was that a lot voters found him personally likable. When your smears are so hyperbolic that only those with IQs under 50 would believe them, you only end up sliming yourself.
You know, I think I can honestly say that if a Republican candidate stooped to this level of gutter politics I would not be able to vote for him. I can't remember a president with so little character. Even Nixon and LBJ had a few principles. I don't know how anyone can be a Democrat today and look at themselves in the mirror.

unfortunately a lot of smart and well meaning people believe the BS as well, derwill. It is what they have been conditioned to by the media and their echo chambers.
All the right people think Romney is a neo-fascist, polygamous, Wall Street VC raider, pet abusing Snidely Whiplash.Ask Peggy Noonan and some of the other nominally Republican pundits.
They do not see the Main Street view of unsustainable spending, a government out of control, and cronyism. Or that of an imperial president who ignores the law when it conflicts with his agenda and doesn't even bother to recognize the role of the legislative except when it suits him.
Not when all of the major outlets say the same things and slant the news the same way. Ask any person who grew up under communism and their distrust of the media is genetically embedded. We are not there yet, but we're getting closer.
