Was up looking for Perseid meteors. Only saw one in an hour and a half, but what a spectacular night for stargazing, with the crescent moon, and Jupiter? some planet, not sure which, rising in the East. I'll be yawning at my desk this afternoon, that's for sure.

I think it is probably a good idea to get a better handle on the precise nature of community organizing. Using their own words as to their intentions and desired results.

I remain stunned that there are books published laying out what a "vitalizing" influence anger is and how the deprivation in the urban schools can be an engine driving the youth to demand social justice.

We have a community organizer in the WH. Why not just give a heroin addict the keys to the methadone clinic and then wonder what happened to the supplies.

Damn, I was going to use the same analogy for Ryan's fiscal Conservatism.

Talking with a friend in the Romney camp last night, I asked him how they and the base square Ryan's drunken bender of decade long spending with their fiscally responsible agenda? He told me "Dub, seriously, Republicans would fall in love with a serial child rapist if said rapist wanted to end Medicare, social security and federal taxes. Reagan increased the size of Government, Bush 1 increased the size of government and Bush two blew it out of the water. We say this shit just to keep the base happy but we don't mean it, Dub, we don't mean it at all. They're so stupid. Hahahahahaha"

Damn, brother.

Could be. Romney's already improved as a candidate and that's something you have to credit Ryan with. Like him or loathe him, he's elevated Rombot's performance.

Peter,

Did not know it was Perseid Meteor time, but last ni8ght saw a spectacular Shooting Star across the nose in descent to Hong Kong but didn't have enough spare brains at the moment to think about it. That certainly makes sense now.

It is very cool, us being Northern Hemisphere guys, to view the Southern sky. Reading the early Aussie historie's as I am doing this trip (Watkin Tench 1788) you can understand the sort of sadness they must have felt at not seeing familiar constellations, thus adding to their depressing sense of isolation. I suspect it makes sense that we call the Milky Way the Megallinic Cloud. My humble knowlege suspects he came south and saw the Milky Way in better splemndor than we do up north, so that would ecplain nhis name attacjhed to "The Megallanic Cloud."

I gladly await clarification if I am hosed up. Anyway, cool light show last night. Am disturbed tho' about it's carbon footprint...

Jane - Get off the couch your country needs you!

I said this last night but I'd like to know if others have come to the same conclusion, which I am more sure of today than ever:

Either by default or design we now have the biggest choice election in the history of this country. If you watched the Romney/Ryan speeches yesterday you finally had to realize what was going on.

Earlier in the day I saw Doug Shone and Pat Caddell (both who I love) saying that the Romney ticket and the real life discussion about medicare could not only lose the election but take the House and Senate with them.

What I realized last night watching the Wisconsin rally is this is not about Medicare. It is about the entire fiscal cliff. It's about absolutely stopping the bull and getting us back on a track toward liberty, freedom and entrepreneurship. This is not a campaign promise, it is a mission. The only reason to vote RR is if you believe the country needs to stop its path to economic ruin. The only reason to vote for Obama is if you don't think the country is on the path to economic ruin.

RR has gone all in. I'd love to know when they decided to do this. This is the boldest agenda in my lifetime and the choice is clear. hopefully 2010 and the Walker election are predictors.

GMAX

I would not pay 51 cents to listen to the man so I do not understand how they got it half full, well yes I do. There was a hell of a lot of Secret Service and its been well publicized how many Zero has working at Chicago campaign HQ and then the drones from AFSME and SEIU who get paid to attend plus sprinkle in a few Code Pinkos and you might get about 1/2, so OK I talked myself into it. IN CHICAGO. Whoops.

Captain Hate

hopefully 2010 and the Walker election are predictors.

I don't see how you can reach any other conclusion. That's the reason the Tea Party was founded; because people were tired of both parties spending money like drunk sailors. Of course the MFM wanted to frame it differently, for the obvious reasons, but the road to financial ruin was foremost in most peoples' minds and they'd had no friend in the White House under Bush.

narciso

If they had any sense of 'selfawareness' they would use, the 'more selective audience' pitch, shirley I jest,

From the other thread, Capt, Priebus suggested that Sarah was welcome but at least two of Romney's liasons with the committee, eminent Duke and Duke vps, probably vetoed the invitation,

GMAX

So lets compare and contrast. How far is Waukeesaw Wisc from Chicago? 90 minutes? I cant be far off, if I am off at all.

Now the place was jumping with energy and excitement. Wisconsin I mean. But not so much for the hope and change guy. Spent the change and rope a doped the hope.

Go look at that video I pointed you to yesterday. USA Today and Gallup admitting, Romney has a "hidden advantage" (i.e. simply by changing to a LV model ), talking about the signficance of the enthusiasm clearly demonstrated here, and generally laying the groundwork for a defense of the obvious but unstated question: "where did you guys ever get that it was a close race?"

Rick Ballard

New Battleground poll out this morning. The sample appears good at first pass and the result is consonant with Rasmussen/Gallup. The survey was completed prior to the Ryan announcement.

There's also a SUSA Missouri poll showing both Obama and McCaskill as dead ducks quacking in Missouri (AliceH chose wisely). There's an interesting ticket split showing Nixon with a strong lead for governor.

Akin is polling much better than Romney according to this poll. I hope we see SUSA poll Missouri again within a month to see what the Ryan effect has been.

GMAX

I take Double Douche last comment as a very grudging but real admission that the race has changed. And even if he did not know it, Zero was already behind. Can a jettison of Slow Joe Biden be but days away? Maybe they can get that lady from Wisconsin who ran against Prosser to join the ticket. What a dream ticket, a half black incompetent and a never been but she is a female!

henry

GMAX, there were people from Chicago at the rally in Waukesha (not the idiot hecklers either). 90 minutes is about right on a Sunday (lots of construction on 94).

rse

Well said Jane. Just like what I am doing is only about education as a tool.

These people are planning to use the schools to organize students and parents to insist on housing, transportation, job, and credential equity.

After reading and hearing about Alinsky to read this is what IAF does and ACORN and SEIU and this is how we go into churches. Oh, and IAF will not come in unless neighborhood has already organized as a community. And raised $250K and then apparently IAF then grants access to foundations.

That fits with the philanthropy shakedown I saw last week that mentioned powell and ldh by name. Today's on organizing in the schools cites Ayers.

So one side wants you to be aggrieved because there's political power for them especially if you act as a group.

The other wants hope for each individual. Rules equitable enforced not government action to level for equity.

Profound difference. And then there are the long term differences in results and prosperity and responsible personal behaviors.

narciso

This week's Parade, rse, had a big piece featuring the 21st Century Fund's Mary Filardo, I don't know if you've come across

SCOAMF's entire political career has been based on identity politics, why not construct a ticket around the concept?

I suppose SCOAMF would run on his ideas if Valerie Jarrett would just tell him what they are and how best to package and market them so they won't be repudiated.

Posted by: Jane - Get off the couch your country needs you! | August 13, 2012 at 08:28 AM

Or you can vote for Obama if you simply don't care the country is on the path of economic ruin.

There are lots and lots of people out there who don't care about how it happens, or the future ramifications, just so long as they get theirs now.

There is another large segment that simply can't believe or can't be bothered that Ungle Sugar's credit card is finally maxed out - Oooh there's a new gastropub opening in the West Village! I need a new iPad!

There is another large segment that really believes in the Progressive ideal and refuses to acknowledge the truth about the historic failure on Keynesianism. Krug-mensch, if you will.

Greedy. Flighty. Stupid. That's SCOAMF's base.

The one good thing about this election is that if RR loses, we will finally know what sort of country we live in: a country of Producers or a counter of Looters and Moochers.

The UN says education is their primary vehicle for social, political, and economic change and so do the community organizers. Well my quibbles with the Battleground Poll are these at first glance:

+4 D aint gonna happen. I believe Tarrance knows this but had to get Celinda Lake to buy in and compromised on this sample result.

11% Union households sounds too high to me without looking up the population numbers. It rises to 15% when including a household member which has to be too high.

Only 17% Catholic seems low as well.

But Zero is not going to get anyone who is not for him today. Undecided are undecided about voting for Romney/Ryan or just sitting it out.

Pretty good results and put the lie to the CNN poll that wont show its work and the silly Opinion Dynamics one with a + 9 Democrat bias.

jimmyk

Taking up daddy's challenge, maybe the best response the half full half empty question is this: "Depends if you're drinking or pouring."

Then there's this to add to the engineer:

The government would say that the glass is fuller than if the opposition party were in power.

The opposition would say that it is irrelevant because the present administration has changed the way such volume statistics are collected.

The philosopher would say that, if the glass was in the forest and no one was there to see it, would it be half anything?

The economist would say that, in real terms, the glass is 25% fuller than at the same time last year.

The banker would say that the glass has just under 50% of its net worth in liquid assets.

The psychiatrist would ask, "What did your mother say about the glass?"

The physicist would say that the volume of this cylinder is divided into two equal parts; one a colorless, odorless liquid, the other a colorless, odorless gas. Thus the cylinder is neither full nor empty. Rather, each half of the cylinder is full, one with a gas, one with a liquid.

Ryan Budget to get watered down by Romney camp.

Actually, Romney's budget is much more agressive about cutting spending in the short term than Ryan's.

Combine Romney's agressive budget cutting up front, with Ryan's long term structural changes, and you have a program to put the US on track for both short term dramatic economic growth and long term debt reduction.

I've been told that Luap Nor represents the "model for grass-roots activism", by someone I used to respect. The problem is, Luap Nor's acolytes are the precise opposite of grass-roots -- they don't attempt to work with the existing party, but rather to take it over. When rebuffed, they don't concede and work with the existing party, but rather stomp off screaming about how poorly they were treated.

Which only serves to tick off people who HAVE worked with the party and HAVE seen it change through cooperation, persuasion, and time.

I've already seen people screaming that Ryan's budget "doesn't cut anything" and thus we should be pissed at his nomination and (apparently) refuse to vote for R-R. I suspect that before too long, I'll be reduced to reading Insty and JOM because everyone else seems determined to flip the bozo bit.

"Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that unique pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account."
