The latest talking point, is that Romney has been chastened from the critique of the policy, I don't know the color of the moon on that world.

Btw, am I too cynical, to ask whether they just rounded up the usual suspects, in a region where the majority of foreign fighters in Iraq came from?

I thought Scwartz was the guy at the embassy that released the apology. Also WH approved the apology and then claimed that they didnit.

Latest talking point should be that Romney knows what he is talking about and Obama needs to buy a clue.

Barry Rubin has an interesting article up at PJ Media especially for those who have seen the movie, 2016.

For the great “anti-imperialist” Obama has set up a classical “imperialist” situation. In Iran, for example, the Eisenhower administration helped an existing, legitimate regime stay in power in 1953, and this supposedly led to Iranian radicalism and seizure of the U.S. embassy a quarter-century later. In Libya, the process may just take a few months...

Obama has fallen into precisely the trap he has denounced in all his books and speeches. True, America is not claiming Libya as its territory, but Obama’s friends call this “neo-colonialism” and “post-colonialism.” He is now the patron of the Libyan government. If it is incompetent, corrupt, or oppresses the people, Obama shares responsibility. LUN

GMax

Two more nuggets from RAS for the terminally squeamish:

When “leaners” are included, it’s Romney 49% and Obama 47%. Leaners are those who initially indicate no preference for either candidate but express a preference for one of them in a follow-up question.

Perhaps most significantly, Republicans are once again more engaged in the election than Democrats. Forty-nine percent (49%) of GOP voters are following the race on a daily basis. Among Democrats, just 42% are that interested. Throughout 2012, Republicans have consistently held the enthusiasm advantage. However, for a few days following the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, the president’s party caught up to the GOP on this important measure of potential turnout.

narciso

Strictly Norwegian Blue, JM, I hope some of those rumors Ledeen related aren't true, I undestand the big picture, the moderate party 'unexpectedly' won in Libya, and Stevens was likely considered their sponsor.

Yhe question is why isn't there much attention to the American Street in these deliberations,

Of course, Taheri has a much better explanation of the '53 action, in his history of Iran, Mossadegh had basically alienated the two major players in Iran,

"Kansas officials plan to hold a hearing Thursday afternoon to weigh whether President Barack Obama is a citizen and should appear on the state's November ballot.

The Kansas Objections Board will be considering a challenge filed by Joe Montgomery, a Manhattan resident, who Monday objected to Obama being on the ballot. He claims the president is not an American citizen since his father was a citizen of the United Kingdom and Kenya. The all-Republican board -- which consists of Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer and Attorney General Derek Schmidt -- has the power to remove Obama from the ballot in his mother's home state.

Montgomery, the communications coordinator for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, said in his filing that he does not believe Obama meets the criteria for citizenship because of his father's citizenship. He cites several Supreme Court rulings in the filing, which he says validate his argument. In the filing, Montgomery said that the rulings show a "natural born citizen" is a person born of two American citizens.

Montgomery wrote:

Barack Obama, according to multiple sources, was not born to a citizen father. His father was never even admitted to this country as a resident alien. Barack Obama Sr. retained his British and Kenyan citizenship and passed them onto his son, which Mr. Obama has publicly claimed on his Fight the Smears website. The Supreme Court specified that natural-born citizenship inherently excludes dual citizenship through a citation in U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark (which was citing U.S. v Rhodes, noting that one could only be a British subject or a natural-born citizen, and not hold both citizenships): All persons born in the allegiance of the King are natural-born subjects, and all persons born in the allegiance of the United States are natural-born citizens.

Montgomery also claimed that Obama has failed to justify his citizenship and said that the birth certificate provided by the White House is "doctored." Hawaii officials, including former Gov. Linda Lingle (R), have said Obama was born in Honolulu and his birth certificate is real."

JMH - Thank you for your well considered points. I will attempt brief answers, embedded. Briefly, though, my view is that the JEF is a cultural alien in America. He does not "get" American exceptionalism, hell, he has said that all citizens of their countries think their countries are exceptional in their own way, just as Americans believe that America is exceptional. Thus, if you are a Ugandan, presumably he thinks that Ugandans believe their country is exceptional.

ME "I feverently believe that the JEF wants this (i.e. the rioting against the US, murders of Americans, the diminishment of America's standing in the MENA) to occur. YOU I just don't believe that, in the first instance, even if he does believe that U.S. could stand to be humbled on the international stage.

Well, we'll agree to disagree. He has not shown anything to me that suggests he cares, particularly, about American lives. His greatest interest is himself, he is quite happy wasting blood on the Afghanistan plains--as Clint said, why not bring them home now?

In the second, I think he's too self-absorbed to care about much beyond cultivating his own transformational stature and securing a place in history as the sum of all great men.

Yes, a transformational man! Exactly. Transforming the USA from the bright shining city on a hill, to a post post-colonial also-ran, perhaps in the top 50 of countries world-wide, but that's a WAG on my part, perhaps the second 50. The transformational leader who not only humbles the great Satan, but also paves the way for the ascendency of the MB and the expansion and securing of the caliphate across the MENA. Would that not be "great?" At the rate he is spending our great-great grandchildren into fiscal penury, they will never get their heads above water. You don't think this is part of the plan?

In the third, I see no evidence that he, himself, is a strategic thinker with anything remotely resembling a master plan.

Surely you jest, JMH. He is a "failure" in a world that sees the USA as a righteous defender of human liberties, the carrier of the torch of Western Civilization. But, in his paradigm, wherein ending America's cultural hegemony, and redistributing America's wealth is the goal, he is succeeding beyond any of our imaginings only four years ago. Someone here on JOM said recently something akin to "I would never have conceived how far this administration could corrupt America's society in just three and a half short years. . . four more years of this and America, as an idea will cease to exist."

In the fourth, I find it difficult to imagine what a more risk-averse President could actually look like.

This guy is the light-bringer, the sea-lowerer, the ice-maker. He is the one he has been waiting for. He's got oodles of Secret Service to protect his skinny butt and millions of enablers, what risk does he face? That he might not get re-elected? Are you kidding? The media (someone here, the forth estate filled with the fifth column) is all in. He went to Vegas ! If he were concerned about re-election, he might have stayed in the Whitehouse to monitor developments. As it is, he's flipping all of us off.

In the fifth, there's no way he would regard anything which threatens his own re-election prospects as a success.

If he thought any of this threatened his electoral success, he'd respond like we would think a concerned "Leader of the Free World" would respond. But, that is not the action we are seeing, is it?

His long view, imho, has nothing to do with preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution against All Enemies foreign and domestic, it is all about humbling America and redistributing what he views as America's ill-gotten riches.

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

Dhimmitude.

So what does that word mean around here. I got an email today saying that that word is actually in Obamacare - and provides for free healthcare for muslims because under their religion paying for it would be gambling.

Why is it we are having to go to the British press to get some sort of true story of the events?

That's one reason I still subscribe to the Economist, which my granddaughter charmingly called the E-communist when she was a tot. She's more right that she realized, but they still report stories that I would not see otherwise.

Two new polls indicate that contrary to the media hype, Ohio is now a toss-up between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. The American Research poll, conducted between September 10-12, showed Obama ahead 47% to 46%. The latest Rasmussen poll shows exactly the same numbers.

There are positive subtexts for Romney in both polls. In the American Research poll, independents favored Romney by a whopping margin, 53% to 37%.

John “Winter Soldier” Kerry: Rank, Vile Hypocrite

I just saw CNN run a clip of John Kerry castigating Mitt Romney for Romney’s criticism of the Obama administration re the statement from the embassy in Cairo. Kerry, blowing enough hot air to power his own windsurfing excursion, called Romney “irresponsible” and “reckless,” among other harsh adjectives. He said Romney spoke without knowing what he was talking about, and that Romney was way out of line.

Kerry isn’t the one to talk. May I remind him of a little incident where he said he knew fellow American soldiers, apparently in large numbers, who “personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country”?

That statement from Kerry was a vicious, vile, reckless, irresponsible, damnable lie. It should have disqualified him forever not just from public life, but from all polite company forevermore.

Amen.
