As part of their Fashion Week coverage, or perhaps in defiance of the new CW that sex no longer sells, the NY Times trolls for front page traffic with a featured video on the exploitation of teen-age models in Siberia. If casting calls filled with lean and hungry fourteen year old girls in lingerie and bikinis are your thing, the Times is your paper!
FWIW, the video concludes with shots of the girls modeling in jeans and t-shirts, lest there be any doubt whether the skin shots are gratuitous.
Oh, well - All The News That's Fit To Print is now All The News That's Fit To Uncover. Whatev.
On today's Old Grey Lady front page there was sufficient room for an article about Romney's collegiate activities almost 50 years ago, but nothing about Libya or Egypt is to be seen.

I refer to to the NYT as Grey Lady Down. There's been nothing to read their since their individual tributed to 9-11 victims. I haven't read that rag for 10 years.
Posted by: maryrose | September 12, 2012 at 12:12 PM
their should be there.
Posted by: maryrose | September 12, 2012 at 12:12 PM
should be tributes. On second thought, there is no there there as Gertrude Stein once said.
Posted by: maryrose | September 12, 2012 at 12:14 PM
TomM-- I don't know what's more troubling, the fact that you read the NY Times or you highlighting the child porn in today's NYT. What does the Wife say about this post?;
Maryrose-- absolute BINGO. The only decent thing the NYT did in the 21st century were the individual tributes to each victim. I read every one, if they were all like the ones about my neighbor and other acquaintances, they did a great service printing those. Oh, they did one other good story about an East German shotputter and the sex antics the Commies did to him/her-- that was a great human story. Nothing else, worth reading I haven't bought the print rag in 10 years.

I thought this was a Penn State football redemption thread.

What's the story on the next page? Experts worried that young girls are too sexualized? That female body image obsession is causing substantial mental disease? That advertisers are being encouraged not to promote anorexic looking models?
Posted by: Clarice | September 12, 2012 at 12:33 PM
The next page is all about how straight men are evil, Clarice.

Not to be outdone!

"so much as that Muslim scholars and preachers have given the green light to their followers to exploit the plight of the poor and helpless Syrian girls."
Anything that is evil can be approved by their leadership.

it simply fits the Sodom & Gomorrah ethos of the times, especially in places like New York. Heroin chic; pederast chic; statutory chic. As Cole Porter said, anything goes.

NK: Thanks for the depressing info. on our doomed state. As for the NYT, Ross Douthat is very much worth reading, if you don't mind social conservatives. He had a good piece about the South/Park Muhammad controversy in April 2010. It's sadly apt today, I'm afraid.
Here's an excerpt from his conclusion: "Across 14 on-air years, there’s no icon “South Park” hasn’t trampled, no vein of shock-comedy (sexual, scatalogical, blasphemous) it hasn’t mined. In a less jaded era, its creators would have been the rightful heirs of Oscar Wilde or Lenny Bruce — taking frequent risks to fillet the culture’s sacred cows.
In ours, though, even Parker’s and Stone’s wildest outrages often just blur into the scenery. In a country where the latest hit movie, “Kick-Ass,” features an 11-year-old girl spitting obscenities and gutting bad guys while dressed in pedophile-bait outfits, there isn’t much room for real transgression. Our culture has few taboos that can’t be violated, and our establishment has largely given up on setting standards in the first place.
Except where Islam is concerned. There, the standards are established under threat of violence, and accepted out of a mix of self-preservation and self-loathing.
This is what decadence looks like: a frantic coarseness that “bravely” trashes its own values and traditions, and then knuckles under swiftly to totalitarianism and brute force.
Happily, today’s would-be totalitarians are probably too marginal to take full advantage. This isn’t Weimar Germany, and Islam’s radical fringe is still a fringe, rather than an existential enemy.
For that, we should be grateful. Because if a violent fringe is capable of inspiring so much cowardice and self-censorship, it suggests that there’s enough rot in our institutions that a stronger foe might be able to bring them crashing down."

Sorry -- should have provided the link for such a long excerpt. LUN
It's really worth reading.

Hyde-- see my early comment to MelR-- no offense meant to Ill. and her people I'm pulling for you, I think you have a better chance to escape the fiscal trap than my adopted state of Ct. I will read your Douhat link. The Park South guys turned me off -- I used to admire their attacking all political views Left abd Right in clever ways-- when they backed off mohamed, and instead went after-- THE MORMONS. Yeah, they picked a tough target, like guys with good teeth, perfect haircuts and pressed chinos would come after them.

SOUTH PARK-- great, now I'm dyslexic

(No, not the MSM figuring out how to gouge Romney, Obama figuring out how to gouge America)
political ad. amazingly, not watching TV and being "safe state" CA I rarely view any of these ads.

Speaking of the sordid subject in TM's Post Header, here is another film I will never go see and hope dies an unfruitful death in empty movie houses:
Al Pacino to play Joe Paterno in biopic.

NK: I don't think you could say anything to offend me about Illinois. It's nice of you to pull for us, though I'm not as optimistic as MelR. I'm not old enough to remember a saner time in this state, so I keep dreaming of a Hoosier occupation. Alas, Mitch Daniels is too smart to try it; he ran the numbers. You can trust Pat Quinn not to do that.
And I spelled South Park wrong myself, I think, though I'm not sure since I never saw the show, not even once. But I do like Douthat. For some reason JOMers seem to hate him. But to me he seems brave. He writes for lefty editors and lefty readers as a pro-life Catholic. I don't know how he keeps his job, except that he's really smart, as well as intellectually honest.
Posted by: hyde park | September 12, 2012 at 04:10 PM
Hyde- we are both admirers of Douthat, I find him smart and intellectually honest as well.

I'm pulling for Illiana and Chicagoland as states instead of Illinois and Indiana. Jettison everything east of Rockford and north of Kankakee and then I think Daniels would go for it, especially if you added Gary to Chicagoland.
The downstaters, by and large, have a clue. But we can't outvote Chicagoland. I can't imagine the people I know in Chicago not voting D short of people literally starving in the streets. I can't even picture what will happen after the end is nigh and the current parasites flee with their loot. I am sure, however, it will be perceived as a market failure which should have been prevented through stricter regulation.

AOG, over in this corner of the state it makes more sense to go with Iowa (I live west of Dubuque...) Especially since we would naturally ally with western IA, and together out vote the left-wing nutcases in eastern IA...
I think that would be the best solution -- carve out Chicago, and then carve up the rest between Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri & Kentucky.

"female body image"
Speaking of female body image, Dennis Miller had a caller from I think Chi-Town who said that the striking teachers in Chicago all looked like Jenny Craig "Before" pictures, yet these were the obese chubsters we want teaching Michelle's Nutrition secrets to Grade Schoolers?
Crimony.

You know, if either/both of the Obama girls end up anorexic/bulimic, it's going to be the least surprising outcome in the history of the human species.
