Rick Perry's heart is in the right place but he would make an even better impression if he had his facts right.
Check out his "hand-writing" tweet:
Since @BarackObama has forgotten how much he's added to national debt #ForAll our kids to pay off...
And on his hands he provides a memory jog with "$16 trillion".
Unfortunately, $16 trillion is the total national debt; the amount added by Obama is roughly $5.4 trillion, since he came into office with about $10.6 trillion in debt from his predecessors.
Yup, a trillion here and a trillion there and pretty soon you are talking about real money.
Math is hard.

He (Obama) has added to "it".

The tweet doesn't say for all the debt Obama has created.
Chill dude, chill.

Why the anonymizer?

Was instructive to listen to the Radio News breaks during the dog walk today, to see how the MSM makes their sausage.
On first report, from whatever alphabet network I was listening to, we got this Obama statement: "You can’t change Washington from the inside, you can only change it from the outside."
This was immediately followed up by Mitt's capitalizing on that statement: "The President today threw in the white flag of surrender again. He said he can’t change Washington from inside. He can only change it from outside. Well, we’re going to give him that chance in November...I will change Washington."
Great job Mitt. Good reporting.
When the second news break came around, an hour later:
Obama: "My biggest failure is that we haven’t gotten comprehensive immigration reform done,”
Followed by comments by "Romney on the Campaign Trail": "I can change Washington. I will change Washington."
That sound bite of Mitt's seemed decent, but it lost it's punch since it wasn't shown to be in response to anything Obama said.
At the third News Break, an hour later:
Obama: "My biggest failure is that we haven’t gotten comprehensive immigration reform done, But it’s not for lack of trying or desire.”
The newsreader then said that the President blamed it on Republican's in Congress's refusal to help.
Then came this Romney soundbite: "The President today threw in the white flag of surrender again. "
That was it.
So MItt''s excellent response and rebuttal to Obama's "can't get it done in Washington" statement, was completely changed within the span of 3 news segments, to now being a Reporter edited assist to help Obama damn Republican's on Immigration, followed by an out of context quote by Mitt Romney, which seemed gratuitous and vapid because the target it was aimed at was completely removed by Media editing.
Thought it worth bringing this up just to illustrate how they build their propaganda meme's in real time.

Of course, the fact he didn't introduce it when he controlled the Senate and the House. Sometimes I feel like Morbo the alien newsreader on Futurama.

Don't know where to put this (so many threads!!) so here will do...
Went to the co-nounty fair tonight (county fair - my daughter used to call it the co-nounty fair when she was a toddler) and the republican booth was overrun with people looking to volunteer, getting yard signs (mine is now in the yard as we speak), and whining cause they were out of bumper stickers. Not just out, but they ran out the third day of the fair and have been having trouble keeping up with demand.
The dem booth was dead dead dead. And did I say dead? The booth next door for some pest exterminator company had more activity while I was watching.
And yes, I signed up for any and all available jobs (knocking on doors, phone bank, GOTV) and they said they had more volunteers than they knew what to do with.
Rode all the rides and still alive. Don't you just love the doubt of whether the carnies put it together properly and will it or won't it fall apart while you are riding it sensation.
LUN for the upside down ride that was awesome! Even after we split an onion blossom, corn dog and funnel cake. Yum! Did you know funnel cakes can now be Reese Peanut Butter Cupped? Yum!
Anyways, from here it looks like Armageddon for Obama.

Obama: "You can’t change Washington from the inside, you can only change it from the outside."
And he then used getting ObamaCare passed as an example of how "going outside" succeeded. BOzo thinks The Cornhusker Kickback, Lousiana Purchase II, sign first-read bill later, corrupt the CBO, circumvent reconciliation, etc., isn't "inside" shenanigans?
Posted by: DebinNC | September 20, 2012 at 10:47 PM
Poor Rick. Always picked on. He was one of the first to hit Iowa stumping for Romney after he got the official nomination. No hesitation. No hard feelings. At least not that he let get in the way of ridding us of the current occupant of the WH.

Amazing ain't it.
Crookedly work the "Inside Washington" System to shove thru something (ObamaCare) that the great, great majority of all American's outside Washington don't want, and having successfully worked "inside Washington deals" and shackled us with the damn unwanted thing, now claim that that is a shining example of "giving us change from outside Washington."
It's like a Mobius Strip of lies.

Stinkin' "5" key has been sticky for years, which is troublesome enough when trying to pay bills and $50.64 becomes $5550.64, but it is terrifying when blogging. Which is why *very* early viewers saw me going with $10 billion and $6 billion, until I felt bad about the rounding.

Fun conounty story.
I missed our Fair this year. Momma made me stay home with the dogs while she took the gals. That was fine by me, and even finer when she came home and presented me with one of those big cooked Turkey legs in Reynold's wrap, still warm, and with a dish of BarbeQue sauce to lather on it. Yumm.

The correction is 16.

Perry is riffing off this bit from Obama:
Which is of course risible nonsense: he's fully aware of the numbers, he just doesn't want to admit more was added in his Administration than both of the previous ones. But the number the President supposedly couldn't recall was the $10.6 T at inauguration . . . derailing the arithmetic discussion that makes him look bad. Then there's the bit from the 2008 campaign trail: Which begs the question of what that says about adding $5T (in only one term). In any event, stating the matter precisely exceeds the 140 character limit imposed by twitter. The issues are: the national debt, with which our kids will get saddled (currently $16T); the President's refusal to treat it seriously, by pretending to forget the base figure ($10.6T); and the amount added to it in the current Administration ($5.4T . . . and counting). All of these are pertinent, and any one of them is open to criticism for not telling the whole story (amusingly, the only one that's really misleading is the one Obama "forgot"). Considering all that, I find the tweet is stated with reasonable precision, and I'd give the Governor a pass.

Flashback: Obama Says Adding $4 Trillion to National Debt 'Unpatriotic'
Which begs the question of what that says about adding $5T (in only one term).
And even more to the point... 4 years ago Obama said adding $4 Trillion over 8 years was "unpatriotic." but now Obama says adding $5 Trillion in 3 1/2 years is "no big deal in the short term."

Loved your post about the carnie rides and the sinfully delicious food. My older brother worked at an amusement park during the summers of college. There was an airplane ride that was high up and went over part of Lake Erie at its furthest rotation. He tells the tale of high wind coming up before a storm and grabbing a three year old before she was blown over the edge of the platform. Those were the days of daring-do.CH:, you will no doubt remember Euclid Beach Park with the best popcorn and frozen whip EVAH!

How is there anything even slightly wrong with the tweet? Obama has forgotten how much he added to the debt. No doubt of that. He admitted as much on Letterman. And $16 trillion is the amount he has allowed the debt to climb to under his administration. Pretty effect use of the constraints imposed by Twitter in my opinion. Don't be a Perry hater.
