Math is hard.

Narciso

5.4 trillion,

Barbara

Check out the photo at Drudge of Obama at a town hall meeting today.

Just look at his body language.

tasker

Oh jezzuz.

He (Obama) has added to "it".

x + y.

The tweet doesn't say for all the debt Obama has created.

Chill dude, chill.

Go have a Connecticut cocktail.

tasker

You voted for Obama didn't you?

Janet

Exactly, tasker. and like narciso pointed out...5.4 trillion.

Melinda Romanoff

Ah, the soon-to-be-tenure-less has arisen from the slop bowl.

With more "Math For Poets", undoubtedly failed in the P/F effort.

Sure hope Unca Moonbeam picks Profs over Prison Guards, for your sake. Time will tell.

Tasker-

Why the anonymizer?

daddy

Was instructive to listen to the Radio News breaks during the dog walk today, to see how the MSM makes their sausage.

On first report, from whatever alphabet network I was listening to, we got this Obama statement: "You can’t change Washington from the inside, you can only change it from the outside."

This was immediately followed up by Mitt's capitalizing on that statement: "The President today threw in the white flag of surrender again. He said he can’t change Washington from inside. He can only change it from outside. Well, we’re going to give him that chance in November...I will change Washington."

Great job Mitt. Good reporting.

When the second news break came around, an hour later:

Obama: "My biggest failure is that we haven’t gotten comprehensive immigration reform done,”

Followed by comments by "Romney on the Campaign Trail": "I can change Washington. I will change Washington."

That sound bite of Mitt's seemed decent, but it lost it's punch since it wasn't shown to be in response to anything Obama said.

At the third News Break, an hour later:

Obama: "My biggest failure is that we haven’t gotten comprehensive immigration reform done, But it’s not for lack of trying or desire.”
The newsreader then said that the President blamed it on Republican's in Congress's refusal to help.

Then came this Romney soundbite: "The President today threw in the white flag of surrender again. "

That was it.

So MItt''s excellent response and rebuttal to Obama's "can't get it done in Washington" statement, was completely changed within the span of 3 news segments, to now being a Reporter edited assist to help Obama damn Republican's on Immigration, followed by an out of context quote by Mitt Romney, which seemed gratuitous and vapid because the target it was aimed at was completely removed by Media editing.

Thought it worth bringing this up just to illustrate how they build their propaganda meme's in real time.

Narciso

Of course, the fact he didn't introduce it when he controlled the Senate and the House. Sometimes I feel like Morbo the alien newsreader on Futurama.

Stephanie

Don't know where to put this (so many threads!!) so here will do...

Went to the co-nounty fair tonight (county fair - my daughter used to call it the co-nounty fair when she was a toddler) and the republican booth was overrun with people looking to volunteer, getting yard signs (mine is now in the yard as we speak), and whining cause they were out of bumper stickers. Not just out, but they ran out the third day of the fair and have been having trouble keeping up with demand.

The dem booth was dead dead dead. And did I say dead? The booth next door for some pest exterminator company had more activity while I was watching.

And yes, I signed up for any and all available jobs (knocking on doors, phone bank, GOTV) and they said they had more volunteers than they knew what to do with.

Rode all the rides and still alive. Don't you just love the doubt of whether the carnies put it together properly and will it or won't it fall apart while you are riding it sensation.

LUN for the upside down ride that was awesome! Even after we split an onion blossom, corn dog and funnel cake. Yum! Did you know funnel cakes can now be Reese Peanut Butter Cupped? Yum!

Anyways, from here it looks like Armageddon for Obama.

daddy

Narciso,

Maybe Morbo is who we need for the upcoming debates:

Narciso

You have a point there. daddy, although there's a toss up he'll terrify first.

Jim Eagle

tasker,

Now you know why thy are using Clinton to talk about the economy under Obama. It will be different the next time around.

Be patient.

DebinNC

Obama: "You can’t change Washington from the inside, you can only change it from the outside."

And he then used getting ObamaCare passed as an example of how "going outside" succeeded. BOzo thinks The Cornhusker Kickback, Lousiana Purchase II, sign first-read bill later, corrupt the CBO, circumvent reconciliation, etc., isn't "inside" shenanigans?

Sue

Poor Rick. Always picked on. He was one of the first to hit Iowa stumping for Romney after he got the official nomination. No hesitation. No hard feelings. At least not that he let get in the way of ridding us of the current occupant of the WH.

OldTimer

--And on his hands he provides a memory jog with "$16 trillion".

Unfortunately, $16 trillion is the total national debt; the amount added by Obama is roughly $.4 trillion--

Pretty sure Perry's mistake is considerably smaller, ratio-wise, than TM's.
Tom gonna have a seat next to Rick?

Melinda Romanoff

Play nice.

G'night all.

daddy

"And he then used getting ObamaCare passed as an example of how "going outside" succeeded.:

Amazing ain't it.

Crookedly work the "Inside Washington" System to shove thru something (ObamaCare) that the great, great majority of all American's outside Washington don't want, and having successfully worked "inside Washington deals" and shackled us with the damn unwanted thing, now claim that that is a shining example of "giving us change from outside Washington."

It's like a Mobius Strip of lies.

Narciso

Time to summon the chupanibbler.

peter

Rick's photo doesn't need an explanation. $16 T is the number. Let's not get cannibalistic.

Danube of Thought

I've forgotten, Steph--where are you?

Stephanie

Atlanta suburbs. Our county was rural til about 1985 or so when we became the fastest growing county in the nation population wise... we still do conounty fairs with quilt judging, livestock judging and rodeos, though.

mockmook

" $.4 trillion"

Tom,

If you are going to mock Perry for imprecision...

JM Hanes

Who needs the tweet? Just add a new caption and let the photo go viral!

Democrats know how to use taxpayer money to buy elections. Something for everyone...except the taxpayers. Make Bush look like a chiseler.

Stinkin' "5" key has been sticky for years, which is troublesome enough when trying to pay bills and $50.64 becomes $5550.64, but it is terrifying when blogging. Which is why *very* early viewers saw me going with $10 billion and $6 billion, until I felt bad about the rounding.

Oh, well, its a poor workman who blames his tools.

P.S.: I'm not governor of Texas.

hit and run

TM:
P.S.: I'm not governor of Texas.

Texas is probably just as happy about that as you are.

daddy

Stephanie,

Fun conounty story.

I missed our Fair this year. Momma made me stay home with the dogs while she took the gals. That was fine by me, and even finer when she came home and presented me with one of those big cooked Turkey legs in Reynold's wrap, still warm, and with a dish of BarbeQue sauce to lather on it. Yumm.

Mother Toddler

I have the twitter account.. i am following the Mr. Obama..

Mother Toddler

Melinda Romanoff

TM-

Num Lock is our friend.

Captain Hate

P.S.: I'm not governor of Texas.

I told Sue when she was piling on Akin that I'd remind her what a subgenius retard her governor was the next time he stepped in it. That didn't take long.

cajunkate

Well, I do believe he won the tweet of the day- a mistake like that isn't easily noticed because everyone knew what he was talking about!

boris

"Since @BarackObama has forgotten how much he's added to national debt ... "

Seems to reference the Letterman appearance where Obum didn't fess up when 10 trillion was mentioned ...

The correction is 16.

Cecil Turner

Perry is riffing off this bit from Obama:

On Letterman, Obama says he can’t remember the national debt
Which is of course risible nonsense: he's fully aware of the numbers, he just doesn't want to admit more was added in his Administration than both of the previous ones. But the number the President supposedly couldn't recall was the $10.6 T at inauguration . . . derailing the arithmetic discussion that makes him look bad. Then there's the bit from the 2008 campaign trail:
Flashback: Obama Says Adding $4 Trillion to National Debt 'Unpatriotic'
Which begs the question of what that says about adding $5T (in only one term).

In any event, stating the matter precisely exceeds the 140 character limit imposed by twitter. The issues are: the national debt, with which our kids will get saddled (currently $16T); the President's refusal to treat it seriously, by pretending to forget the base figure ($10.6T); and the amount added to it in the current Administration ($5.4T . . . and counting). All of these are pertinent, and any one of them is open to criticism for not telling the whole story (amusingly, the only one that's really misleading is the one Obama "forgot"). Considering all that, I find the tweet is stated with reasonable precision, and I'd give the Governor a pass.

Ranger

Flashback: Obama Says Adding $4 Trillion to National Debt 'Unpatriotic'

Which begs the question of what that says about adding $5T (in only one term).

And even more to the point... 4 years ago Obama said adding $4 Trillion over 8 years was "unpatriotic." but now Obama says adding $5 Trillion in 3 1/2 years is "no big deal in the short term."

centralcal

Great conounty fair story, Steph - thanks for sharing it.

I agree with some of the others, Rick was poking fun at Obama's sudden memory lapse about how big the National Debt is.

GMAX

Speaking of @sskicking Texans, How About those Rangers!

maryrose

Stephanie:
Loved your post about the carnie rides and the sinfully delicious food. My older brother worked at an amusement park during the summers of college. There was an airplane ride that was high up and went over part of Lake Erie at its furthest rotation. He tells the tale of high wind coming up before a storm and grabbing a three year old before she was blown over the edge of the platform. Those were the days of daring-do.CH:, you will no doubt remember Euclid Beach Park with the best popcorn and frozen whip EVAH!

Sue

I told Sue when she was piling on Akin that I'd remind her what a subgenius retard her governor was the next time he stepped in it.

That's so sweet of you Capt'n.

Sue

and I'd give the Governor a pass.

Thanks, Cecil. I'm pretty sure of those stumping in the primary against Romney, he is the most visible trying to get Romney elected using his own success as governor of Texas to help Romney. And then he gets this from the bleachers. Bah humbug...

maryrose

Sue:
Congrats on your Rangers!
Our own Cleveland Indians will be lucky to break even this year. Other than the Chicago Cubs we have been in the wilderness for a very long time.

Captain Hate

CH:, you will no doubt remember Euclid Beach Park with the best popcorn and frozen whip EVAH!

Actually I don't since I didn't move here until 72 so I missed out on that but a lot of my friends speak fondly of those times.

That's true. Even the governor of Texas knows we're talking about trillions not billions.

Perhaps your 'B' key is so sticky it makes 'Ts'?
If you want to start over we'll pretend like we didn't see any of it.

JD

How is there anything even slightly wrong with the tweet? Obama has forgotten how much he added to the debt. No doubt of that. He admitted as much on Letterman. And $16 trillion is the amount he has allowed the debt to climb to under his administration. Pretty effect use of the constraints imposed by Twitter in my opinion. Don't be a Perry hater.

Rick Ballard

Ignatz,

Lower your expectations. Connecticut is not Texas. You have to norm for the Blue Hell environmental effects.

Porchlight

Whatever, TM. How many jobs have been created in CT lately?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Sit down, Rick. :)

Sue

Maryrose,

Thanks. I was doing happy dances in my bed last night (they are playing on the left coast so the games are late, late, late, here in Texas) when Beltre belted a 2 run homer. I have always said if there is a lurker outside my bedroom at night they will think the woman inside is nuts and move on to the next house.

Sue

Now, if someone would just figure out how those damn Yankees could win and lose at the same time, I'd really be appreciative. I need for them to beat Oakland but want to stay ahead of them in the win/loss column.

GMAX

I think Rick has a point. Its probably Stockholm Syndrome from being held hostage in a blue hell! Plus the Yanqui nosedive has him throwing trash at the Mets!

daddy

"I need for them to beat Oakland"

Bite your tongue! @#$%%

Win one for Ichiro!

Or, as it seems to be going, Ichiro can win one for himself.
