The NY Times commiserates with its readers:
Shifting Reports on Libya Killings May Cost Obama
By MARK LANDLER
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration’s shifting accounts of the fatal attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, have left President Obama suddenly exposed on national security and foreign policy, a field where he had enjoyed a seemingly unassailable advantage over Mitt Romney in the presidential race.
Hard to imagine - the Admiistration failed to anticipate terrorist attacks on the anniversary of 9/11,then misled the public about their failure, and this is news?
Unfortunately, this is not just partisan hackery the Times can pooh-pooh:
But the questions are likely to come not just from partisan Republicans. The Benghazi attack calls into question the accuracy of intelligence-gathering and whether vulnerable American personnel overseas are receiving adequate protection. Even allies of the president like Senator John Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat and the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, have petitioned the White House for more information about how the government protects diplomatic installations abroad.
But not to worry- the Times won't be trying too hard to knock down Team Obama's spin. For example, here is this howler, reported without rebuttal:
White House officials dispute that the press secretary, Jay Carney, cited the anti-Muhammad video as the cause of the attack in Benghazi.
If the Times had a subscription to "WhiteHouse.gov" they would be able to find the transcript of this Sept 14 press briefing by Mr. Carney:
MR. CARNEY: In terms of the security at the Benghazi facility or post, I would have to refer you to the State Department for specifics about what security was there. There was a security presence. It was unfortunately not enough to resist the attacks that we saw and resulted in the tragic loss of life. But there was security.
It is also the case that in reaction to this the President has ordered that we review all of our security arrangements for embassy facilities and other diplomatic facilities around the world. But in terms of the specific security that was in place at Benghazi, I’d have to refer you to the State Department.
Q Wouldn’t it seem logical that the anniversary of 9/11 would be a time that you would want to have extra security around diplomats and military posts?
MR. CARNEY: Well, as you know, we are very vigilant around anniversaries like 9/11. The President is always briefed and brought up to speed on all the precautions being taken. But let’s be --
Q But saying you’re very vigilant and being very vigilant are different things.
MR. CARNEY: Jake, let’s be clear, these protests were in reaction to a video that had spread to the region --
Q At Benghazi? What happened at Benghazi --
MR. CARNEY: We certainly don't know. We don't know otherwise. We have no information to suggest that it was a preplanned attack. The unrest we’ve seen around the region has been in reaction to a video that Muslims, many Muslims find offensive. And while the violence is reprehensible and unjustified, it is not a reaction to the 9/11 anniversary that we know of, or to U.S. policy.
Q But the group around the Benghazi post was well armed. It was a well-coordinated attack. Do you think it was a spontaneous protest against a movie?
MR. CARNEY: Look, this is obviously under investigation, and I don’t have –
Q But your operating assumption is that that was in response to the video, in Benghazi? I just want to clear that up. That’s the framework? That’s the operating assumption?
MR. CARNEY: Look, it’s not an assumption --
Q Because there are administration officials who don’t -- who dispute that, who say that it looks like this was something other than a protest.
MR. CARNEY: I think there has been news reports on this, Jake, even in the press, which some of it has been speculative. What I’m telling you is this is under investigation. The unrest around the region has been in response to this video. We do not, at this moment, have information to suggest or to tell you that would indicate that any of this unrest was preplanned.
What is true about Libya is that -- well, a couple of things. One, is it’s one of the more pro-American countries in the region. Two, it is a very new government; it is a country that has just come out of a revolution and a lot of turmoil, and there are certainly a lot of armed groups. So the fact that there are weapons in the region and the new government is not -- is still building up its capacities in terms of security and its ability to ensure the security of facilities, is not necessarily reflective of anything except for the remarkable transformation that’s been going on in the region.
Well, Mr. Carney stuck to the line that it is under investigation, but to claim that he did not cite the movie as a possible cause is a long stretch. But not too long for the Times to ignore it.
Yes, Rick. At the moment it looks to me like a Romney 4-5% lead but it is true that we are still early.

the only Ohio seat (Renacci in OH-16) was redrawn.
Renacci is really hitting Betty Sutton hard for voting with Pelosi Galore and the JEF. Plus dimwit Sutton tried hitting Renacci with the OMG Planned Parenthood defunding will lead to breast cancer without researching that Jim is a cancer survivor, which he pointed out in a subsequent ad.

I got Nebraska first and then Idaho. Of course, I know exactly where Nebraska is because one of the vet princesses graduated from UNL. But without the Missouri or Platte Rivers as a guide, I missed the location by 127 miles according to the test. Then I missed on Idaho, and Nevada by a few miles on the east west axis and never could make that up.
The luck of the draw definitely makes a difference. If you start on the coasts or the great lakes you have a chance for a very good score. If not, Rick's way works the best.
I am too depressed to discuss politics today. I am overwhelmingly disgusted by the projefe bias of MSM and the punditocracy and by the ignorance of the voting citizenry.
Football, golf, baseball and martinis. Yeah, that's the ticket.

All the Virginia ACC teams played like garbage today. In addition to BEAMERBALL giving up a late TD to Cincinasti in FedEx, Katie Couric's school found a truly innovative way to blow a late rally against Looziana Tech: UVA stops La Tech on 3rd and 1 with 1:45. La Tech sends out their O for fourth down, tries to get UVA to jump, which they don't, so La Tech uses a TO, then come back on the field with their O again, and UVA has 12 players on the field. It's like Al Groh never left.

CH,
When Renacci survives again, you're going to owe Rove at least a moment of respectful silence. The "story" of this campaign is going to be failure to follow through on the part of the Pinhead Troika wrt to the Deaniac registration effort orchestrated and paid for by Soros/Bing/Lewis and conducted by polisci indoctrinators across the US in contrast with the Mehlman/Rove GOTV (which McCain-Feingold could not afford) run with the rather brutal efficiency which one might expect from someone who made a very good living running a knacker's yard on Wall Street.

Catherine Herridge just reported that in order for Stevens to have been at the Benghazi consulate, either the Secretary if State, the head of diplomatic security, or the government head of diplomatic housing would have had to acknowledge that the consulate fell below the acceptable safety standards and signed an overt waiver for Stevens to be there.
(I;m not sure the name of the 3rd position, but it is something like that.)

I have a friend whose mother was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in the 70's and told she wouldn't make it to the end of the year.
She did indeed have advanced breast cancer and did die from it......about thirty years later in her nineties.

from the Chicago Boyz -
"And Romney, well, Romney’s solidity attracts; he may seem stiff but he does seem real. And what he’s done is real. He doesn’t see himself as “eye candy” – he wouldn’t; he’s husband and father, boss and worker. His instincts about business and people seem good – he chose Ryan; Obama chose Biden. Doesn’t that, in a sense, sum up the difference? One acts (and explains well) and the other speaks (and not too coherently). Obama molded ACORN, Romney molded the Olympics and led it to solvency."

CH,
Renacci gets a free ride from Rove (Governor Romney picked up the tab). I know you haven't been zinging him lately - it was just a remembrance of things past.
For those who follow the money, there is ample reason to kick Rove just below the belt for his remarks regarding Akin which were made, IMO, in the hope of a nice fat GOTV payment by Brunner, should Akin have been induced to quit. I can't ever recall such a blatant psyops maneuver by an operative - backed by paid shills right down to comments plugged into JOM.
Rove runs a great operation and can be trusted - as long as he has cashed your check. Beyond that - it's as far as you are willing to try and spit into a strong breeze.
Akin? Latest poll shows him ahead 48-47 (within the MoE).
I thought he was down by 100 or so. Must be a Fluke.

Wonder how the word that you could get a free phone from Obama got out?
IIRC the language for a free or subsidized cell phone made its way into of all things a farm bill. It was in 07 or 08 that the USDA started to really market food stamps (and think the Bush Administration tried to push back) and it acclerated with the passage of the 09 stimulus bill. All that said, I believe that if one qualifies for food stamps, one also qualifies for a government sponsored cell phone and it has been that way for a while. I'll look it up when I have some time tonight if interested.

He really didn't understand the link to the Deaniac/Uni setup and focused on raising cash which he is pissing away in ads rather than ground game.
An MFM with a 40% (strangely similar to the Dem leaner number) trust rating just doesn't have the Punch which it possessed in the past.

I am trying to diagram Dr. J's explanation of Mrs. J's offer of her daughter to him without condition and trying to align that with the Dr. J I know....

Still, when you are informed about thing, Rick, and compare what you know with what is being reported, it's hard not to be furious with the pack journalists.

OL,
Mrs. J's offer of her daughter to him without condition...
I laughed as I pointed it out, as did she. Not to worry!

Yes, a lot of luck on that state quiz. I got 98% / 2 miles because I got AZ / UT then MN / IA. Had either of those pairs been in the other order my score would have been much worse. The absence of rivers is a killer.

Whenever anyone says they are contemplating getting a tattoo, it says to me they have a limited sense of time and their place in it.
I remind them that as they get older it will sag.

This is interesting -
"Two weeks ago, Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary “2016: Obama’s America” passed Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” for second place on the all-time box-office money list for political documentaries."
I bet my kids saw "An Inconvenient Truth" 3 or 4 times each in school...slow school days, class discussions,...
Ya figure they will show "2016" on slow school days?...maybe have discussions on what happens when the MFM have become propagandists for one candidate?

The WSJ has an editorial opinion on Warren's legal cases. No mention made of Legal Insurrection's good work.
As a subscriber, I entered a comment to ask that they do a follow-on piece along the lines of Legal Insurrection ...
and why the MSM hasn't covered the issue.

That film as well as the patently ridiculous 'After the Warming' is considered science instead of propaganda, Janet, and it is full of the whole grab bag of 'suggestions' like carbon taxes, energy meters, et al, that would come to fruition about 15 years later.

Over here the papers are big on some super wealthy Hong Kong billionaire trying to offer his daughter, but there is a condition:
Hong Kong tycoon Cecil Chao seeks husband for lesbian daughter Gigi — and offers $65m bounty
Tho the linked story doesn't mention the condition, the local Malaysia paper says to earn the 65 Million her prospective suitor hubby has to turn her straight.

Clarice,
ISTM I'm watching the collapse of the Soviet Union again. I'm not particularly infuriated by the MFM propaganda when I know they won't be around to try again in eight years, nor am I particularly upset by the institution which credentialed BOzo being unable to recognize a blatant ethical violation by someone entrusted with the indoctrination of tomorrow's morons. I won't be indignant in the slightest about EUtopia sinking into its own cesspool either.
The fact I'm rereading The Conservative Mind for the third time may have something to do with my lack of indignation. It's not as if the collapse of the progressive dystopia was unforeseen.

Interesting post at Patriot's Corner too.
Was the Innocence of Muslims crap video a set up to attack our free speech rights, like Fast & Furious was to attack our 2nd amendment rights?

SBW, many reporters feel they can steal from bloggers freely. Jack Kelly, Michael Barone and Toby Harnden have credited me when appropriate--others, to my knowledge, not. Once I even got a letter from a newspaper editor weeks after her paper ran an editorial which basically copied something i'd written--saying how much she had liked my article.(No apology)
It's unfortunate but true. They frequently ignore or simply steal from us.
